"Something like that. I ******** him once or twice. Sunk his ships, too; there were always too pretty to be practical, anyway."
Obviously the drow have a much different set of moral codes and therefor social customs.
"Last I saw of the good captain, he was fighting off three my good fighting men. Haven't heard a peep from him since. Can't imagine why."
Her smile was fleeting and flurried; gone almost before it came.

What looked like a hint of a smile rose on Melanie's lips as she rested her hand on the hilt of her sword. She could feel the impression of the Burb's crest that was imprinted into the hilt on her palm.
"Who were the fighters?"

Storm saw Melani's hand drop down to her waist. She shook her head, realizing where the young woman's thoughts were going.
"Don't bother. They're dead now, too."

Melanie sighed then cringed as she heard her name being yelled from the gun captain. "Captain." Melanie looked over at Stil, "Stil." then hurried down to her station where she was met with her gun crew.

Storm and Stilgar watched Melanie's quick retreat with impassive eyes.
"What a queer little girl, that one."
"She is ghanima."
Storm looked back at him in surprise; in the old tongue, in Stil's tongue, it meant spoils of war. She pursed her lips in silent thought, but said nothing. Stilgar took his as he should've, and began to bark orders to put Storm's Death Wind out to see; within the hour, the sloop was kicking along at a goodly pace, the isle a mere dot on the blue miles away.

Melanie quickly walked down the steps as the gun captain's voice hallowed out her name again. Once the cannon was in sight-and all who were in her group too- Melanie stood on one of the beams near the cannon, trying to avoid being close to the vampires. However, being close to people was neccessary, and when she had to do a test run to show what she'd learned in that hour, she'd had to touch his hand, which made her nearly drop the cannon. After the next trial run, she passed, and the gun captain dismissed them, ordering us to look for other duties elsewhere. While cleaning up the area around the cannon, Melanie's stomach began to rumble with hunger. However, her loud stomach caught the vampire's attention and he just glanced up at her and smiled wickedly. Melanie couldn't help but shivering and quickly made her way up to the main deck.
She began looking for Storm and nearly bumped into some of the men who were scurring about the deck. Once sighted, Melanie walked across the deck and waited until Storm was done talking too another crewmate.

Storm finished her reprimand quickly, wanting it to be over. She noticed Melanie just standing there...watching her. She cocked an eyebrow in askance.
"What do you want, darling? Did Joseph not give you enough duties? I'm sure I could get Stilgar to find something, if that's the case."

I sighed angirly at her."No, I do not need to find any more work. I came to ask you where the dining area is?" My fists clentched into fists by my side.

Storm ran her eyes up and down Mel once again. She shook her head.
"Tonight, you may dine with me. Tomorrow, you can swill with the rest. How does that sound?"
She smiled bitter sweetly.

Melanie raised a questioning eyebrow, unsure of what Storm wanted to know, enough to invite me too dinner. Melanie looked at her uncertainly, then nodded her head. "Fine by me."

Storm nodded and smiled. She pointed back towards the stern of the ship.
"Aft cabin; I eat after the sun descends; it's easier on my eyes."

Storm calle after Melanie before she moved out of range.
"Mel, why don't you stay up here for a while? That much darkness is not good for a young woman's skin. You look like you could use a good tan. Why don't you relieve James up in the crow's nest?"

"Alright." Mel said as shewent to the rope ladder and began to climb; In about 10 minutes she was almost halfway there. Mel looked up and realized that the other rope ladder was about a foot above the other rope ladder, and so, she grabbed the two connecting ropes and heaved herself up, grabbing the other rope ladder with ease. Quickly-from out of fear- Mel reached the crow's nest and down came James.

Storm watched Mel shimmy up the netting with a thoughtful look on her face. She shook her head clear of all unwanted thoughts and turned back to what she was doing. Before the sun had finished it's downward decent, the Death Wind was again in sight of land...but they wouldn't likely reach it for another five, six hours at least.
