Am I alone in hoping Turner gets a huge fine and those two dirtballs that got arrested get jailtime over their stupidity on Wednesday?
Yes. Because those signs were all over the city for three weeks before someone went insane and the cops came in, and it took the cops an eternity to figure out that they in fact weren't bombs. And Boston wasn't even the only city that these things were placed in, just the only city that went nuts.
Jailtime is way over the edge. I'll concede to some kind of fine, because Turner should have stepped in sooner and said something, and they should have had a label on the back of the signs saying "Cartoon Network" and some contact info.
Otherwise, this is yet another example of this country going crazy because OMG THERE ARE T3RR0RISTX0rZ!
Calm the ******** down people, next thing you know someone's going to claim to have a suitcase with the names of a bunch of people in Hollywood that are terrorists....

As probably the kapowian closest to Boston, I feel it is my doody to relate a few facts that have been obscured by the media around my and other's areas...

The Local authorites and news agencies were informed by people that worked for them and regualr citizens that these were meerly light bright advertizements for Aqua Teen Hunger Force at approximatly 1:00 pm that afternoon. They chose to ignore it. An employee at a comic store had seen the same advertizement in their shop, and called it in to the police to tell that it was no big deal at around 3:00pm or later. The Bomb squad showed up, evacuated the store and through the device away in a trash bag. It took about 15 to 20 minutes. You see, they had already taken care of about 13 other devices. but had basically been told to go through the motions. The retard of a Mayor and Deval Patrick (The Gov.) knew what they were by then. They knew before the press conference where the devices were from and what they were about. Yet at the press conference they said they had no specific leads but that they were sure they would get the individuals responsible. The spent hours after the press conference continuing there search and crap. They purposely wasted money and time.

ALso, the media continue to call this a hoax. It is not a hoax. A hoax has an intent to defraud or some such. This was meerly an ad compaign.

Also again, they had had billboards featuring the moonanite around the same areas as the lite brights.
Dundah duh!
Proof that Boston fails at being a city.

Precisely.
I'm crossing my fingers and really hoping that means these guys aren't going to get jail time. If one person knows, more people know and it looks pretty damn good for them. The problem becomes that it is not in the best interests of various mayors and so forth to reveal it. They'll probably still get slapped with a hefty fine (that they don't deserve).

It is my belief that the one or two people who placed the "devices" should not be fined or jailed or any of that kind of crap. If anyone deserves to get in any kind of trouble it should be either Turner Broadcasting. (Which I too believe they don't deserve) or the people in the government of Boston. (Which I do think is deserved.)

Proof that Boston fails at being a city.
Horseshit. The first responders reacted in the proper manner. I have family members who are military and first responders so I've got a decent idea of what they have to deal with. If a call comes in of something suspicious they have to check it out. They did and determined that these items were not a threat.

These items were placed in areas that were crucial parts of the cities infrastructure. Key targets for attack. As mentioned Boston is also a city where a plane left involved in the 2001 attack, meaning there were at the time terrorist cells in operation there. Boston also has a great deal of history. It's not a prime stategic target by any means, but it's fairly close to one of the top three. (Top three in order: Norfolk, Washington DC, and New York.)

And even after one of the devices was determined to be a glorified Lite-Bright, the first responders still had to check them all out. This lesson comes to us courtesy of the Irish Republican Army who were known for setting dummy bombs throughout cities to determine the patterns of city's crisis teams. They would do this and after enough false alarms, then the real attack would hit.

All the other cities that "didn't make a big deal" of this, should have. They have displayed themselves as targets to everyone paying attention to our media, and the enemies of this country, I can assure you, are.

Turner Broadcasting is looking at about a million dollars in fines. The two guys arrested are looking at 5 years in jail. The way they were acting at the hearing I would say hit them with the full time. They've since issued statements being much more respectful to the situation. I would not say now that they should serve the full amount. I'd say about 6 months would be fair.

And yes the terrorists won. They win every day someone buys into the media bias against the current administration. The one that's been working to clean up the mess of the previous one. They win whenever Jane Fonda or some other misinformed shmuck gives a microphone in front of their face and screams that America is wrong in everything it does. They smile every day the chants get louder to pull our troups out knowing that they just need to hold on a little bit longer.

And then they can kill anyone who tried to support the growth of Democracy in Iraq. Women's right to vote there will be gone. They get on about their business of wiping Israel off the map. And they won't be stopping with them.

They should? Everyone should be that paranoid? Everyone should fear that at any moment now, the terrorists will be coming to get us? That anything we see out of the ordinary means terrorists? I saw an add for a new band, they're papering them all over the city advertising a show at one of our historic clubs, where hundreds of people will come to watch. They don't search people before they enter the club, there's not even a metal detector. But I've never heard of them before, does that mean I should suspect terrorists? That they're going to bring a bomb to the show and kill everyone? The band is called Mink, but that doesn't mean anything, terrorists wouldn't say they're called "terrorist attack," they're too crafty for that.

One day would be one day too much. This is along the same lines as those warnings, "take baby out of stroller before folding." One person is stupid enough not to use common sense and suddenly it's the company's fault for not telling people that folding babies in strollers is a bad idea.

The current administration is a joke, they should be made fun of, constantly.
I have never felt afraid in this country, I have never felt terrified. The only people telling me to feel terrified are the government and people who see terrorists under their beds. And all they do is make my life more irritating.
Terrorists win because people are terrified. I refuse to believe that every shadow holds a bomb.

Oh that's great. Let's talk about Isreal and their secret police and their own terrorist actions. Let's talk about the birth of Isreal, how they were created with land seized from the surrounding countries, 'scuse me, "spoils of war" and were set up in an area known to be hostile to jews as a way of getting them out of the way.
Hell, let's talk about democracy in Iraq, where the United States went in to a stable government and destroyed it, claiming it would be better for the people because now they'd have democracy, instead of saying that it was a reactionary move. And they had no plan for once they got rid of Saddam, they figured democracy would just sort of happen. Nevermind that Iraq is a collection of tribes and factions that have been warring since time immemorial. Or that many of these factions see this as a prime oppertunity to seize power by whatever means necessary.
The situation they went into was bad, let's not sugar coat it. But let's not foget that the USA helpd put Saddam in power in the first place, thinking he'd be a nice biddable leader to their wishes.
You want women to vote? I want women to live. It's created a more unstable situation than ever, and now they're talking about invading Saudi Arabia. Iraq certainly isn't happy with that, the Primie Minister objected, the country is in turmoil and the US now wants to use it as a beachea to launch ANOTHER badly planned invasion? Condoleza then went on national TV and said this Prime Minister was living on Borrowed Time. That sounds super friendly.
You read my other posts? Rendition has been going of for ages, and those people dissapear until the United States give them back. They kidnap them, take away years of their lives, find nothing, let them go and never apologize. The ends justify the means, and that means sending people to third world countries with no torture laws and then torturing them, never letting them know WHY they're being tortured.
I got called in after 9/11 to verify myself because I wasn't born in the states. So don't you ******** tell me that any of this is right, that it's ok to make everyone be afraid all the time and to suggest that anything other than fear is the natural state we should be in right now and the proper response to anything "unkown."

No, everyone should not be that paranoid, but the authorities should. People do need to be aware of what's going on around them. I am not advocating people panicking when they see something strange. They should if they do notice something contact the proper authories and let them be the judge of it.

I don't think the end is in sight at all in Iraq. The U.S. is trying to force Western-style democracy on a country that obviously isn't ready for it and is resenting them for telling it how to govern itself.

What I'm saying is that you don't go into a situation without planning it well in advance, especially when you're going into an area that's already extremely unstable. Bad things happen everywhere, you can't say "bad things happened here" as an excuse to invade. You don't do it by yourself, alienate the rest of the world, ignore your allies, and then try to look like a hero. Or a martyr.
Iran, you're right, my bad. Although what I know is that they've never proved a weapons program, just nuclear research. There is a huge difference, especially when you take into account that nuclear power is a pretty damn reliable form of energy.

There IS NO END in Iraq. In ten years this will still be going. That's the problem that no one wants to admitt to and that even fewer want to devote the resources to. They have no stable government, they have warring factions and now the US wants to start ANOTHER war right next door. It's an unstable region, and I see a lot of MILITARY solutions to what is a social, governmental, political and diplomatic problem. They claim it's not their place to run the country, it's up to the Iraqis. Well that's all well in good if they took into their own hands to do it, but the States went in and did whatever they liked. Iraq is their responsibility now.

Quote:

You call this leading?

And I will b***h as much as I like. That is my right and even duty as a resident of this country. I am supposed to question leaders when I think they make piss poor descisions, and I am supposed to get mad when they ******** things up.

That's very true. Countries that are forced governments upon them have a history of hating it. The thing is that democracy doesn't even work for everyone, countries have to find their own ways to work without getting a lot of outside intervention. Europe was like that during a cascade of revolutions. France had dozens of them in a ten year period, kings going on the throne and off until they found a system that the people liked.
Britain has gone and slowly modified their government over centuries. Russia is still working in the wake of communism and the legacey of organizations like the KGB. The West hasn't even totally figured out democracy, what right does anyone have to force that system on anyone else?

I lived in Morocco for six years when I was younger. It's one of the most liberal Arab countries there is, but if my parents had criticized Islam openly or done particularly open missionary activities, they might have gone to jail.
