I love the oboe. The only problem with me is I just got a wooden one and it's the dead of winter here in PA..I'm afraid to stand outside with it to wait for the bus since I really don't have an extra couple thousand laying around to pay for a new one sweatdrop
I suck horribly at it. I heart it though =)

I play the oboe. Here the word is that it sounds like a cricket that was run over by a truck, then blown up like a balloon.
I dunno how that came to be, but that was what I heard. xD

Whoo! I'm almost a part of this thread! xd
So, I'm starting Oboe tomorrow, and I got a reed today. (How do you say that, anyway? Technically it's two reeds, but I only bought one pair...but if you say, "I'd like to buy a pair of oboe reeds", then it sounds like you want two pairs...that's confusing. xd ) I was really surprised- it's a lot tinier than my sax reeds, and I'm afraid I'll break it. D: Maybe I should've gotten two...
EDIT: Oh, and it's an Emerald reed. How well does that brand work?

So far I LOVE the Oboe. =D Besides from the fact that the thumb rest hurts my thumb, it's awesome! And my sound is okay, too. My main problem is getting out the higher notes and making sure the reed doesn't touch my tongue guard...I have to hold it out straighter for that.
The Oboe's in pretty good condition, too. I can't tell if it's plastic or wood, but it works well. Some of the keys are a little loose, and a key has a scratch, but it works! ^_^

But the two are rather similar. (I play oboe and bagpipes biggrin ) As far as oboe reeds go, I think I've played an Emerald, but I usually go with La Voz, and from what I've been told La Voz are rather good (I'm still in my first year, so I'm not quite pro. Yet)
