Lindsay Davenport--30 Though she's loathe to use word retire, 3-time grand slam tournament-winner confirms that she doesn't envision rejoinin' tour after she gives birth to her first child next year. If so, those who watched her at last year's U.S. Open had honor of seein' Davenport's final tournament.

Eddie Sutton--70 Before his retirement in May, he was considered best active basketball coach to have never won a national title. Sutton was 1st coach to take 4 schools to NCAA Tournament (Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky n' Oklahoma State). Only 4 coaches have more than 798 wins Sutton amassed in his 36-year career: Dean Smith (879), Adolph Rupp (876), Bob Knight (869 enterin' the 2006-07 season), and Jim Phelan (830).

Deion Sanders--38 Baltimore Ravens brought him out of retirement in 2004, hopin' he could help them win a Super Bowl as a 5th defensive back, but it never happened. Prime Time was a lot less flamboyant in his second go-round, but best shutdown corner in history of NFL is a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Martina Navratilova--49 This time she says it's for real. Navratilova first retired in 1994, havin' won 167 singles titles, includin' 6 consecutive at Wimbledon. She returned for doubles competition in 2000 n' stayed on top of her game until very end, winnin' mixed doubles championship at U.S. Open in her final pro match.

Curtis Martin--33 Only thing missin' is "official" retirement announcement, but there's little doubt 11-year veteran has played his last game in NFL. Martin n' Barry Sanders are only players to begin their careers with 10 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Martin retires as Jets all-time leadin' rusher (10,302 yards) n' is 4th on NFL's all-time rushin' list (14,101).
