The blue-haired trainer scratched his head, glancing at his little Nuzleaf before looking back at Keegan. "Whaddya mean by seriously?" he asked. "My Nuzleaf's great!"
The redhead rolled his eyes. "The way you were going on about the rules and junk, I thought for sure you were going to send out something at least a little bit formidable." He almost immediately reached for Helios' PokeBall, but had to stop himself as he remembered at the last minute that he'd sent the fox back home for a well-deserved rest. Well, s**t, he thought, suddenly needing to rethink his strategy. His fingertips brushed up against the red and blue Great Ball that held the ever-cranky Alvero, and he smirked a bit. Perhaps he could redeem himself a bit by giving the Skarmory a chance to work off some of that anger.
"My Nuzleaf's formidable!" the trainer insisted. "Send out a Pokemon already so I can stomp you!"
Keegan smirked. "Yeah, we'll see who's stomping who in just a minute." Perhaps this random challenge wasn't such a bad thing. Despite his lack of confidence when compared to all his friends and allies, Keegan knew he was no slouch when it came to Pokemon trainer, and smacking around some annoying little punk was likely to be good for his ailing ego. "Go and have some fun, Alvero," he said, grinning as the metallic and very hateful bird appeared, screeching and squawking and making a terrible amount of noise. The other trainer's expression was priceless as he saw the Skarmory appear, but he shook it off, attempting to keep up his bravado. Keegan decided he wasn't going to wait around and gave the first command. "Steel Wing," he said. ===== Two down, two to go, Miharu thought, closing her eyes and letting out a small sigh. Her reprieve was quite brief, however, as when she opened her eyes, Empoleon had been recalled and its replacement Pokemon had been sent out. The small girl paled slightly when she saw the Magneton, and Jasmine didn't hesitate for a second to call for a Thunderbolt. The Magneton's response was quite instant, as a wicked bolt of lightning was already ripping through the air toward Starmie.
"You've gotta do something," Lee called from the stands, his first words since the battle had started.
"Starrie... Uh... use Reflect Type," she called, but her hesitation had already cost her quite dearly. The Water-type could not shift away its weaknesses fast enough and the Starmie was hit hard by the Thunderbolt. Static rippled across the Water-type's body as it struggled to remain upright, but it was difficult as it could feel paralysis starting to grip at it. "Light Screen!" she called again, and with some difficulty, the Starmie managed to bring up a glittering barrier of light. Miharu knew Starrie was done for, but that didn't mean she couldn't help protect the next Pokemon that she sent out.

Heh heh, you kidding? I'm always ready for some fun. And I know just who's gonna do it!" Jason said with a big grin as he ran over to the box marking the challengers spot across the battle field, staring down at Roark as he clutched his pokeball. "Ok then, three on three. Let's get things started Atlas!" Jason called out as he tossed the white and red sphere into the battle field. His rapidly growing Onix burst out with a loud roar, as amped up for this fight as Jason was, feeling right at home on the rough rocky ground that was the rock type gym's floor. He really started to dig his rocky body into it as he braced himself and readied for battle, this was gonna be fun for him. And this was gonna be fun for Jason as well. he waited in anticipation for Roark's pokemon to be called out, his very first gym battle!
+++++++++++++++++++++++
The little announcing tone sounded out that let Crenu know his pokemon were good to go. Bubbles and Newgate were the only two who were in relatively good shape, well, Newgate was. Bubbles as still hurting but not as much as Terrato who had used his Take Down to exhaustion. With his team back in working order he began to ponder what his next move was going to be. More training was always good, as his pokemon were nowhere near strong enough. His battle with Surge, the way it ended, it didn't leave him any happier than the first time. He wasn't going to be happy until he could gain a victory that really felt like a win. But Surge wasn't the only one. No, there were others. Other gym leaders who hadn't gotten a close battle, gym leaders who straight up defeated him. Erika and Whitney had both taken him down, and he was going to get those badges. Not for the badges sake, as always he cared not for those trinkets. But to defeat strong trainers, particularly those who already proved to be stronger than he was. And combat experience on the field was always more valuable than self training. Pet Shop's pokeball left his hand as he exited the center, it the doors hadn't even closed by the time that Crenu had climbed upon his back and the large golden bird had shot upwards. "We're heading north. Celedon is close and Erika needs to be defeated. Make haste Pet Shop, I may just let you battle this time." That was all the Fearow needed, and he cawed loudly as he shot forward. The wind was crsip and hold high above, but Crenu didn't notice or mind, the pain radiating from his injured hands far from his notice as he was full of something similar to anger at getting his revenge for being defeated. It wouldn't take long either, as Celadon was coming into view.

Alvero shot his trainer a defiant glare, but when he spotted the little Nuzleaf, that glare turned into a grin. He was in an actual fight, and not just flying his useless, idiot trainer around from place to place. Naturally, he'd just fly over there and peck that leafy little runt's eyes out, but Steel Wing actually sounded like a pretty good idea to him. He gave another ear-splitting screech and sped forward, both wings aglow.
The other trainer grinned. "No worries, Nuzleaf! Hit it with your Fake Out!" His grin was annoying, and Keegan wanted nothing more than to go over there and smack it right off his face. The Nuzleaf, however, proved to be a quick little bugger as it darted forward, showing no fear as it faced Alvero head on. Alvero, while quite vicious, didn't seem to sense anything wrong, at least not until the Wily Pokemon had sprung up and brought both of its little hands slamming down right onto the bridge of the Skarmory's beak. While not overly powerful or damaging to the metal-clad bird, it was more than enough to disrupt Alvero's attack and he wound up planting himself face-down in the dirt below. The trainer laughed heartily while his Nuzleaf did the same, sharing in their success.
Keegan almost laughed out loud at the sight of his pissy bird flailing about wildly on the ground, but he kept it to himself as he was still trying to get on the Skarmory's good side, if he even had one. Fake Out, always annoying yet always effective. That won't save them, though, he thought, looking on as Alvero freed himself from the ground, looking absolutely livid. "Air Cutter," Keegan said coolly, but this time, Alvero had no intentions of listening. Screeching something awful, the Armor Bird launched himself at the Nuzleaf, holding nothing back as he tore into the little Dark/Grass-type with a barrage of sharp pecks from his beak; a Fury Attack.

Now Night Shade was a move that Kasiya had never been able to use before, as it was usually limited to Ghost-types and the like, so she felt a little giddy as the shadowy aura spread out toward the Raichu. It was exciting, having a totally-new Pokemon with mostly totally-new moves, but it was also kind of exciting to see how another Raichu trainer handled her Pokemon in battle. Elena seemed pretty confident, however, and she appeared to have a plan in mind already. "Dodge that, Raichu, and use Double Team!" she called out. The electric mouse had no trouble avoiding Ariados' Night Shade, and she was sure to put a bit of distance between herself and the spider before she gave a cry. Her body seemed to shimmer and then she split off into several different copies of herself.
Ariados, meanwhile, clicked noisily as she was not very impressed by the fact that her opponent had just multiplied. Kasiya, on the other hand, couldn't help but think that it was probably something she would have done herself. "Don't worry, Ariados," she said, trying to reassure her newest Pokemon as she quickly glanced at the spider's moves in the PokeDex again. "Um, use Agility next, okay?" she asked. Ariados cast her a dark look but didn't disobey, knowing well that a boost to her speed could only help her at this point. The spider couldn't help but look back at the blonde girl and what would happen to her if she lost this battle. After all, her dear Crenu had gotten rid of her, so what was stopping this girl from doing the same? She looked back at the five grinning Raichu, and she made a decision. She didn't want to be abandoned again, even if it wasn't technically what had happened to her in the first place.
"Okay, Raichu! Let's try a Thunder Wave now," called Elena from the opposite side, and both Ariados and Kasiya perked up. That was not a move anyone wanted to be hit with. The five different Raichu all gave growls, electricity flaring from all of their cheeks and shooting off toward Ariados, only it was impossible to tell which of the bolts of static was real. Kasiya tried scanning Ariados' moves again, but she just couldn't pick something fast enough, and she knew from experience with her own Electric-types that once Ariados was paralyzed, Raichu would have a much better chance at defeating her.
=-=-=-=-= It didn't take very long for Ikouma to teach the basics of Ice Punch to little Naga, and it wasn't long before she was freezing chunks of rock and clumps of grass alike. The Sneasel stood back and watched the little one's progress, correcting her when he felt she needed it. The Dark/Ice-type looked over at their trainer, who was busy trying to get the hot-tempered little fox to actually attempt to evade the large Tropius' Razor Leaves rather than burn the ones that came near her to a crisp. Ikouma smirked, wondering if Amber would ever learn. Regardless, that left him and the little Cubchoo to their own devices, and the Sneasel motioned for the little one to follow him. Naga, thrilled to have found a friend in the older Pokemon, tottered along after him happily.
Meanwhile, Calliope was starting to get very good control of her Razor Leaf, as she was managing to direct most - if not, all - of them right at Amber. The obstinate little Vulpix refused to dodge the way Karrigan wanted her to, continually using Ember to ward off the leaves. When Callie unleashed a particularly dangerous-looking barrage, Amber went so far as to cloak herself with a Fire Spin to avoid them. Karrigan sighed, and shook her head. "Okay, then, Amber," she said, grinning a little as well as cradling her injured hand. "Calliope, I think a change of tactics are in order. Use Stomp instead." The Tropius gave a nod, and using her leafy wings she vaulted forward, the little red fox the target of her massive feet. Amber's eyes went wide when she saw the change in her trainer's strategy. Sure, she could unleash all the fire she wanted but it still wouldn't stop her from being crushed by that massive foot! The Vulpix growled in frustration, but knowing she had no choice this time, raced out of the way, a trail of white light streaming behind her. She pivoted and shot a heated glare at Karrigan, and though she wouldn't admit it, it felt good to outright dodge, and force her opponent's attack to miss. Karrigan, meanwhile, just smiled "That's more like it," she said, ignoring Amber's death glares.

"Hmm, I have a flying type. And a poison type. And two ice types....though Korra isn't very strong yet. A Rock/Ground type, which would get destroyed in this gym. And Carmen is too young and weak. So it's up to you three...possibly four. " He spoke mostly to himself as he contemplated his battle strategy. A lot of plant types carried the poison duel typing as well, so Bubbles wouldn't be stupidly effective, but at least he would be able to absorb their attacks with little consequence for a bit. That didn't mean he wasn't going to have to be clever of course. Her attract destroyed him last time, so whatever else she had yet to show was something to be weary of. Pet Shop landed on the ground kicking up a lot of dust, recalled as Crenu's feet hit the floor. Cracking his neck the blond trainer pushed the doors to the gym open, met immediately with the pleasant aroma of flowers that came from all around. As before, the gym was a very peaceful and calm place, with wonderful arrangements and symmetry that could only be achieved by the most skilled of flower arrangers. He received some greeting from a trainer who worked there, remembering him from before most likely, but he walked on past her.
"Hold on there, you can't get to Erika without first beating me!" A girl in a pink dress with long brunet hair said as she walked out in her high heels from behind one of the archways cut from a large bush it seemed, with a smug look on her face.
Crenu didn't even give her a bit of recognition, and walked right past her. As she was in the way though he ended up bumping her shoulder with his own, but just continued on. "I don't have time for small fish. Don't waste my time." He said coldly as he continued.
The brunet turned on her heels and started after the blond boy looking very cross at his actions. "What? But..but you can't just walk away from a challenge! Hey you can't just walk up to her lady without proving your-"
Crenu stopped only once, turning to look at her, and staring right through her very being. His cold eyes glaring at her, his brows lightly furrowed. He didn't open his mouth, he didn't say anything or make a single sound. he didn't make a move other than stare at her, before turning and walking away. The brunet just stood there as if contemplating what had happened, but he didn't care as he reached the inner sanctum of the gym, walking past a few other trainers who might have tried the same line as the beauty, but if they had he blocked them all. There was only one girl he was looking for here, spotting her where he'd found her last. "I've come for a rematch." He said calmly.

"It's okay, hon." Karen said, holding her hands up disarmingly. "You don't need to be so formal. Karen is just fine." Despite saying those same words to literally every one of Mike's friends, everyone still called her Mrs. Kyoka. It made her feel like an old woman.
"We were just discussing what I was going to do now that things are all taken care of." Mike said, nodding his head for Kasiya to sit back down. 'It's okay' he mouthed.
"Taken care of is one way of putting it." Karen frowned from behind her glasses. "I assume that was you who punched a hole in the volcano?"
"Maxie wasn't getting the point." he lied casually. "I had to show him that I wasn't messing around."
"Well you showed all of Lavaridge that." retorted the woman. "You could have hurt yourself."
"Could have?" Mike raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the room around him. "I'd say one thing I succeeded in flawlessly was hurting myself."
"You know what I mean!" Karen snapped. She looked at Kasiya and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry. You just had me worried." Mike lowered his head. He knew that the only reason she wasn't shouting at him right now was because there was someone else in the room that wasn't Keegan or Flannery.
She almost ended up alone. a phantom whispered.
"I know." he said to both his mother and the ghost. He looked up at Kasiya, seeing a way to clear the air. "I know you two have met before, but mom, I want you to meet someone very special to me." he smiled, looking at the girl beside him. "This is Kasiya. She was one of the first people I met on my journey and has been a great friend ever since. Never stopped looking out for me no matter how bad it was. To be honest," he paused to think, before chuckling lightly at what he was about to say. "She's more than probably the reason I'm still around. So I would really like you to meet her."
Karen couldn't help but smile at the precious little girl beside her son. She already knew Kasiya's powerful loyalty when she instantly agreed to help break Mike out of the asylum, but hearing him say it just made it that much more endearing. He cared for her, too. He hadn't smiled that warmly in a long time. "Kasiya." Karen said. "It's very nice to meet you." the woman smiled sweetly, thankful that her large reflective glasses hid her watering eyes.

"Close enough," Keegan shrugged, slipping his hands into the pockets of his coat. He was tempted to light up another smoke but he decided against it, instead watching his hostile Pokemon with a sort of uneasy awe. It was actually kind of awesome just how fearless and well, for lack of a better word, determined Alvero was, but at the same time, his viciousness was troublesome. His nasty temper was also something else, but Keegan didn't feel like he was one to pass judgement on something like that.
The poor trainer, on the other hand, didn't seem to know what to do, and neither did his Nuzleaf. It shrieked in terror and flailed its arms wildly as it tried to fight off the brutal jabs from the Skarmory's beak. It wasn't long before the Grass-type had enough, and the moment it stopped struggling, Alvero let it go. The blue-clad trainer recalled it, already backing away from Keegan with his hands up. "All right, all right, you win," he said, looking around frantically. "You win!"
The redhead wouldn't get a chance to say anything in reply as the trainer had already turned tail and fled, and probably wisely, at that. Despite Alvero's complete dominance over the poor Nuzleaf, Keegan didn't feel comfortable with calling that one a win. It was just the opposite, actually, and Keegan sighed, holding the Skarmory's Great Ball in one hand. "Good job, buddy. That's just the sort of reputation we need right now," he grumbled. Alvero responded with nothing less than an irritated screech before he began to scratch and peck at the ground, looking like an overgrown, metal chicken. The redhead rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever."
He held out the blue and red sphere to recall the Skarmory, but changed his mind and started walking. He still felt a strong urge to escape from everything, but the thing was, he didn't really have anywhere to escape to. He could always head over to Petalburg City and attempt his next gym challenge, but what was the point? At one point, Alvero realized he'd been left behind, and though Keegan was far from being his favourite person on the planet he followed along after him, perhaps out of some twisted sort of loyalty.

"Akima, Ice Punch!" Riza shouted, knowing that if that Iron Tail hit, and it was quite likely that it would, it would be all over for her Weavile. Riza knew her brother was tough, and probably much tougher than she was, but that still didn't mean she wanted to lose to him, especially after all the progress she felt that she had made. The Iron Tail was moving quickly and both she and Akima knew that dodging it would be impossible, so the Weavile mustered up as much energy as she could to move forward, a glowing, icy fist raised and ready to strike as the Dragonair's tail came toward her. The impact was heavy and Akima knew instantly that she had been defeated, but that didn't stop her from trying her hardest to land her Ice Punch. She managed to come around and strike the dragon-type, and as the icy power of her claws died away, so did the rest of her energy. Akima collapsed heavily on the round, eyes squeezed shut.
Dragonair, meanwhile, wasn't faring so well against the super effective hit and he reeled, looking weaker than before but still able to continue. He slid back, long body coiled up around him as he watched his trainer's sister recall her fainted ice-type. Both he and Jaden knew that it wouldn't be long before that Weavile would be able to take them out quite easily, as the only thing separating them right now was time and experience. "Not bad, little sister," Jaden said, giving a nod. "You've definitely raised that Weavile well." He truly was impressed with Riza's performance so far, and he crossed his arms over his chest, waiting to see what Pokemon she'd send out next.
"Yeah, not bad yourself," Riza answered, clipping Akima's poke ball back onto her belt. She only thought about it for a second before choosing her second and final Pokemon for this quick match, and her grey eyes narrowed as she flung out the red and white sphere. "All right, Yula, let's finish him off! Psychic attack!" The lovely Gardevoir appeared in a flash of light, already in the process of delivering the psychic-based attack. Her whole body glimmered with a light blue aura which she focused into a blast-like attack that was aimed at Jaden's Dragonair. * * * * * "Hmm, I guess your aim could use some work," Katie said, putting her hands on her hips. Darla wasn't too worried by her miss and she hovered away from the Zubat, which had decided to try and come in for another attempt at a Leech Life. The Solosis was still young so Katie didn't know just how much she could take. Darla however didn't seem to like the Zubat once again trying to invade her personal space so she unleashed another Psywave. This one wasn't as powerful as the one before it, but it managed to hit the bat Pokemon head on. Its pride was probably wounded worse than its body so it flapped its wings and flew off, still screeching into the darkness.
"Soooool!" Darla cried happily, drifting back over to Katie. She looked a little tired and Katie smiled, catching the blobby little psychic-type in her hands.
"That wasn't too bad for your first fight, sorta," she said, cuddling the Solosis. Darla gave a soft coo of agreement and closed her eyes. Katie decided it best to put her back in her poke ball for now so she did just that, although she couldn't help but feel a little bit lonely as she walked. "I just hope we can get through the rest of this cave without incident," she murmured, looking around at the rough walls and stony floor. * * * * * Jasmine grinned as her Magneton's Thunderbolt scored a direct hit on the already weak Starmie, and admittedly she was a little shocked (no pun intended) to see it still standing after that. Miharu seemed to be a little bit shaken up by it as well, and the gym leader and her triple magnet Pokemon watched as the Starmie then proceeded to throw up a bright wall of light. It would protect future Pokemon in the battle, but Jasmine didn't think it would help the Starmie out at all.
"It's time to finish it," she announced, pointing at the purple star. "Charge Beam, Magneton!" The Magnet Pokemon drifted forward, all three parts of its body already crackling with electricity. It gave a loud drone as it unleashed a concentrated beam of lightning at Starrie.

"Oh, okay," Kasiya said, not entirely sure if she was comfortable calling an adult by their first name, even if she had permission. She'd always been taught that it was disrespectful and she held to that even now, when she was only a few years away from becoming an adult herself. She glanced over at Mike, almost instantly feeling a little more at ease and she smiled at him.
That ease faltered very noticeably when Mike openly lied about the gaping hole his group of Fire-types had blasted in the side of the mountain, and she made sure that Mike saw the glare she shot his way, fully indicating that if he ever tried something that stupid again, he was in big, big trouble. In turn, it was hard not to look at all the machinery still hooked up to Mike, and finally, the girl looked away and over at one of the pictures that hung on the wall in a sad attempt to brighten the place up. She knew very well what Karen meant as she spoke almost harshly to her son, but at the same time, there was an underlying, almost hidden tone of motherly love and relief. Kasiya couldn't help but miss her own mother then, and wonder what she'd think of all the crazy things her daughter had done in the past while.
The mood of the conversation brightened considerably when Mike formally introduced the two of them. His words were more than enough to make her blush several shades of red, but the smile never left her face. "It's kind of a two-way street," she said, looking between Mike and his mother. "Mike's always always been there for me whenever I'm in trouble, or even if I just need to hear a friendly voice on the phone. And not to mention that one time he chased down Team Rocket after they kidnapped me, and he saved me." She put her hand on Mike's, her fingers gently curling around his. "I think it's pretty safe to say that we've both saved each other enough times to be even." She wasn't entirely sure why, but the fact that Karen was smiling at her made her feel that much better, like she wasn't intruding or unwelcome.
=-=-=-=-= Erika was not oblivious of the commotion that had started inside the gym, and in very little time, the source of that commotion made himself known. As Crenu appeared in Erika's quiet little sanctuary, a row of angry female trainers appeared right along with them, some of them much more put off than others. Erika finished transplanting the geranium she'd been working with and brushed the dirt from her hands before standing up. "I was wondering when you would return," she said, smiling warmly at the blonde boy. "Kira, it's all right, he's fine," she said, and after a moment of chatter among them, the angry trainers dispersed, leaving Erika alone with her challenger save for the same girl that had reffed the match before.
"I trust the same rules as before are all right?" she asked. "Three on three?" She removed the apron she'd been wearing to protect her clothes and tossed it to the side. She didn't really wait for Crenu to answer before she'd withdrawn her first Pokeball, giving it one click to bring it to its full size before she tossed it out, revealing her mighty Tangrowth. He gave himself a bit of a shake and looked around, seemingly quite ready for battle. "The first move is yours, Crenu," the gym leader said plainly.

Crenu didn't show any kind of notice to the chattering trainers around him, save for a pulsating temple that showed growing annoyance and their angered voices. Luckily enough for him, and possibly for them as he was a a short fuse away from exploding, Erika sent them away. "Were you now? If I didn't know any better, I'd accuse you of missing me." That was his one and only attempt at making a joke, he wasn't even sure why he'd made it to be honest but he did. His eyes never left her as he watched her ready herself, ridding her dirty apron not at all surprised to have found her tending to the plants and keeping her rather nice kimono clean. As before, he was impressed with her reserved grace and calm nature. She didn't make his blood boil like Surge did, but that didn't mean he wasn't searing with the need to win. Her rules were fine, not that she gave him the chance to object as he got into place across from her. She could definitely take charge when she needed too, and that really helped set the mood for a battle. He already knew what pokemon he was going to start off with, but he was admittedly disarmed when Erika sent out her first pokemon, a large hulking mass of blue vines with big hands appeared in front of him, a pokemon he'd never laid eyes on even in his dreams. Just what in the hell was that? It's eyes peering out from a shadowy center wrapped in blue vines, it did remind him of a Tangela, but Tangela were small armless things that didn't appear very intimidating, nor did they evolve to his knowledge. This changed things a bit, but not by much. It was at least part grass, of that he could be sure. Thinking more on something he knew not about was useless though, and he wasn't about to show his hesitance as he made sure to keep his blank expression as always, tossing out his own pokeball into the fray. A big purple grey puddle oozed onto the field from the ball, and Bubbles rose out with a big gooey roar as his lips parted from what looked to be a random spot in the sickly mass. His arms dripping with sludge as he smashed them on the ground before his whole body turned into a puddle again before he 'solidified' permanently this time, glaring down at his opponent. the fearless Muk wasn't off put by the strange pokemon and was ready to just let his body consume everything. "Very well, we will start. Let's find out if you're a poison type as well, use Poison Gas." Bubbles didn't waste a moment, and didn't even have to do much more than breathe. The sludge pokemon inhaled deeply, groaning out as he exhaled, a vile cloud of pure pollution billowing out of his mouth and expanding outwards towards the Tangrowth.

The nurse gave a small sigh and watched as the bandanna-clad boy left the center, looking down the hall to where the sad-looking Koffing was peeking out from one of the rooms. Upon seeing her, the poison type drifted forward hopefully. The nurse shook her head, but it didn't seem to deter the Poison Gas Pokemon. She continued to float until she was out in the lobby and gazed longingly toward the sliding doors. "Go ahead," was all the nurse said before returning to her paperwork, though she watched the quirky Pokemon from the corner of her eye.
Koffing was almost giddy with laughter as she reached the doors, only the weight sensors didn't pick her up since she was airborne so naturally, the gas-filled poison type didn't stop until she'd crashed into the glass window of the door and fell to the ground with a dull thud. Since she weighed less than a pound, she still didn't trigger the doors to open so for a moment she just lay there, eyes wide and watering with tears. The nurse made a move to stand up, but a little girl who had been sitting with her father jumped to her feet and ran over to where poor Koffing lay and stomped down on the black mat with great purpose. The doors opened with a whoosh, causing some of the greenish smoke drifting up from the defeated Koffing's pores to be tossed around by the breeze. The poison type blinked and looked up at the girl, who was grinning from ear to ear and soon her sad expression matched it.
With a hearty "Koff, koff, koff," she had risen up off the floor and drifted through the open doors, following after the green-clad boy whom she considered to be her hero.

Karen was too distracted with Kasiya's praise of her son to even catch that she mentioned even more acts of dangerous vigilantism that Mike had taken part in. Seeing her clasp hold of his hand made her heart nearly burst from her chest. Young love, she thought with a smile, remembering some memories of her own. After seeing her son brandished a criminal on television, wrapped in a straight jacket and hooked up to more machines than her alarm system, seeing this girl hold on to him so tightly washed all of her fears away. He was safe with her. "I'm just a phone call away, okay honey?" she said, walking over and giving Mike a quick kiss on the forehead. "You should get some rest, and try to take a shower."
"About that." Mike replied. "Me and water don't really mix that well anymore."
"Hrm." Karen grunted, putting her hand over her mouth as she thought. "A byproduct of Moltres, no doubt. Don't worry. I'll think of something. Also, you need some clothes. I'll have to make them a bit more flame retardant now. Same design?"
"Yeah sure." Mike shrugged. "If I have any changes I'll call you."
"Okay, good." she replied, her eyes narrowing as she concentrated. Mike smiled as his mom's attention faded. "Oh." she snapped back. "It was wonderful seeing you again, Kasiya." Karen said, walking over to the other side of the bed and giving the girl a hug, not allowing her to have any say in the matter. "Thank you for looking after my son." she said softly. "He's my world, and with him so far away, I worry, but I don't think I have much to be scared about with you keeping an eye on him." There was a sincerity in her voice that only a mother could conjure. "If you find yourself near Lavaridge you are more than welcome to come visit." And with one last smile, she left the two kids.
She is taking to Kasiya quite quickly.
We were afraid she would be disappointed, what with her not being Flannery and all.
"My mother knows good people when she sees them, so of course she likes Kassie." Mike said, waving the ghosts away. His lip twitched slightly when one of them mentioned Flannery, but he quickly shook the encroaching thoughts from his mind. "You did well." he said, bringing Kasiya's hand to his lips. His eyes widened for just a second when he imagined being introduced to Lt. Surge. Kasiya is an easy sell to any parent. She's cute, sweet as they come, and loyal. But he was not exactly prime boyfriend material, especially to a military father.
Let us hope he takes pity on the broken boy.

Back in the waiting room, Sasha continued to play with her newborn Pokemon. She released Omelette in hopes to give Samba someone to play with, but the Azurill was far too timid to do anything near anyone that looked that sharp. Instead, the little mouse crawled up her trainer's arm and proceeded to meekly nibble on the girl's cheek. "Fine, more cute pour moi." Sasha said with a haughty huff, overemphasized for effect. She then realized Pokemon might not be apt to pick up sarcasm, and gave Omelette a small kiss on her nose as an apology. The Azurill cooed happily. "I wonder how Mike iz doing." the girl asked, picking up the little cactus.
"I'm sure he's fine." grumbled the distant Winona. She had continued to give Sasha space after her last stunt. In fact, she'd moved a few chairs farther away. Her face was still slightly pink as she shot the occasional glare at the pink-haired girl.
Sasha was unphased by the Gym Leader's frustration, and continued to delight Samba with sweet-sounding gibberish and hiding behind her hands. Winona rolled her eyes. As she sat with crossed arms, a figure walking towards them caught her eye. It was Mrs. Kyoka. She had a distant, pensive expression on her face, atypical of a mother who just visited her critically injured son. That's a...good sign? the gym leader thought.
"The challenge is now the fire is coming from inside." the woman murmured. "I can't have him wearing anything metallic, as it could fuse to his skin if he got hot enough. Perhaps marko fabric like last time, but with a more concentrated weave-"
"Excuse me, Mrs. Kyoka!" Winona interrupted. "Is Mike okay? Can we see him?"
"Hm?" Karen turned around to see who was calling her, completely forgetting that there were other people here. "Oh, Winona. Yes he is fine. And I'm sure you can see him now. He's in the room with Kasiya."
"Kasiya?" Winona repeated with a wrinkled face. "What's sh-nevermind. Thank you Mrs. Kyoka. Have a safe trip back home."
"Oui! " followed Sasha, causing Winona to jump as she once again appeared out of no where. "Au revoir!"
"Stop doing that!" Winona snapped. "Doing what?" Sasha asked innocently. "Sneaking up on me!" "I'm not sneaking. You're just not very perceptive." she said with a song-like inflection. "Pour example, how are you surprised z'hat Kasiya is in z'here wih'z him right now? You saw z'hat Flannery left a while ago, oui?" Sasha tilted her head forward expectandly. "Two and two, Amelia." "Well yeah I saw that she left, but-" "It's four." "I know it's four!" Winona said through grit teeth. "And stop calling me Amelia, Frenchie!" "Nah, I s'hink I like it." Sasha teased, recalling her Pokemon and bouncing her way towards the hallway that lead to Mike's room. "What do you mean by that though?" the gym leader asked. "It seems red iz out and blonde iz in." Sasha said with a coy smirk. "Go Kass!" she pumped her fist. "No way!" Winona gasped, immediately covering her mouth in embarrassment for indulging in gossip like such a girl. "No possible way!" she said in a more hushed voice. "I don't believe you!" "Let's go find out z'hen, shall we?" Sasha turned, inviting the gym leader to follow her with a curled finger.

Everything is going to be all right, Kasiya thought, the words echoing slightly in her mind, but she was certain that it was true. Some things were not at their best right now, but others had definitely come around, and she didn't even realize that she was staring at Mike as he and his mother discussed something about clothing. That is, at least until the attention was focused back on her, and Karen had pulled her into one of those tight, reassuring and amazing hugs that only mothers were capable of. "Same to you, Mrs... um, Karen," she said finally, the name feeling a bit weird on her tongue, but not completely unnatural. She nodded in agreement at the prospect of visiting Lavaridge again, and she knew without a doubt she'd be seeing more of the volcano-side town more often than before. She'd made a similar promise to Mrs. Summers and she intended to honor that, especially because she and her husband had been kind enough to give her one of the Dame's highly coveted eggs.
She was still looking at the doorway that Karen had just exited through, wearing a sort of dopey half smile, but Mike's voice snapped her back to reality. "Hmm?" she asked, looking around the room expectantly, but of course nothing was there. She tried to think nothing of it, even if there was a small nagging feeling in the back of her mind. "I've never really had a problem with parents liking me," she admitted, her half-smile quickly blooming to a full one. "Your mom is right, though. Shower or not, you really should be getting some rest. Saying the past few days have been rough on you is like, the understatement of the century." Despite her worry for him, she couldn't help but yawn herself, and she knew she would be happy to crawl into bed at some point today. "We could all use a good rest after today," she added as a bit of an afterthought, leaning in a bit closer and pulling his hand up to her cheek. "Everything will be okay now, we just have to take it one day at a time, right?"
=-=-=-=-= If one thing Erika was known for aside from her superb ability to bring out the best in Grass-type Pokemon or her natural gift for flower arranging and care, it was her calm, cool demeanor. However, when Crenu released Bubbles the Muk onto the battlefield, that resolve faltered, even if it was only for a few seconds, and she knew for certain that Crenu would notice this change, however brief. Only people closest to Erika knew that she harbored a terrible fear of Muk and their pre-evolved form, Grimer, and not because they posed a threat to her preferred type of Pokemon. She closed her eyes and exhaled deeply, banishing her fear as she would not allow it to rule over her, especially during a gym match. On Crenu's command, the Muk released a cloud of toxic gas that quickly made its way toward the wily Tangrowth.
With her fears taken care of, at least for now, Erika was able to fall into a battle-state of mind, and she smiled. "Okay, Tangrowth, don't worry about that cloud. Just use Sunny Day." Tangrowth seemed to mirror his trainer's smile and he bobbed back and forth on the spot, one hand raised. A glowing ball of pure sunlight appeared in his palm and he lobbed it upward, making the whole arena warm, sunny and bright. In the meantime, the Poison Gas cloud had swamped the Vine Pokemon. Almost immediately, the toxins began to soak into his body, but the bright sunlight had other ideas as it encompassed Tangrowth's body. With a quick shimmer, the toxins were neutralized and the Grass-type gave a cheer, clapping his mighty hands together.

Keegan had no clear destination in mind as he wandered around Lilycove, a cranky Skarmory in tow. However, the company of the irritable steel-clad bird didn't last long as they didn't get very far before Alvero tried to bite someone (and nearly succeeded, at that). So, it was back into his Great Ball and Keegan fought back the urge to kick himself for sending Helios back home, especially since the fox was probably the only living thing that he even wanted near him right now. Again, he thought of the baby Axew and he sighed, still not sure how he had even come to possess the little dragon. Eggs appearing magically out of thin air? It all seemed a little too miraculous, as Keegan had learned from an early age that if something seemed too good to be true, it almost always was.
He also thought of the odd little candle Pokemon, and how Mike was utterly convinced that it had been a gift from him. As much as he wanted to tell the truth about how the egg had most likely appeared (he assumed it was in the same vein as Hades' sudden appearance and it was likely he just hadn't noticed it), Keegan figured it was probably best to heed Karen's wishes and keep up the ruse. All kidding aside, Karen Kyoka was definitely not one to be trifled with, especially when it came to her son.
His mind running at about a mile per second, the redhead continued his aimless wandering, paying little attention to where he was going. The good thing about being lost in thought meant that he was far too distracted to be smoking, which was good for his physical health, at least. When Keegan came to a stop it was out of necessity rather than want, as he realized the burning sensation in his eyes and in the back of his throat mean that he was both exhausted and dehydrated, and the sharp pains in his stomach reminded him that he hadn't eaten properly in quite some time. This realization made him look around, and he soon realized he had wound up in the same area just outside of Lilycove where he had captured Alvero. In fact, the large gash in the ground from where Themis got thrashed by an Onix was still clearly visible. With a bit of a half-smirk, the redhead once again released the Skarmory, who gave him the sourest of looks possible as he was told they'd be flying again. "Shut up, we're going home," Keegan grumbled as he climbed onto the metal bird's back, and very soon they were flying noisily toward the small town they had left only a little while ago. ===== There was no possible way for Starrie to overcome that Charge Beam, especially in its paralyzed state, and Miharu decided it best to recall the Water-type before it could take any more unnecessary damage, and she glanced over at Jasmine, hoping the leader would understand her actions. "You were great, Starrie," she whispered to the PokeBall as she clipped it back onto her belt. She thought for a few seconds, realizing that she didn't have too much of a choice left. She hadn't wanted to use Tingle just yet, but Lily couldn't do much against a Steel-type other than put it to sleep and do plenty of minor and passive damage with Leech Seed. Even still, there were no guarantees and she didn't know what other Steel-type Jasmine had lying in wait, though she could probably hazard a guess or two.
The green-haired girl certainly hoped that she wasn't making a serious mistake here as she released her own Steel-type onto the battlefield. Tingle the Metang made a melodic humming sound as it touched down on the ground, using its natural ability to levitate to prop itself up on only one pointed finger before it twirled around, the other arm outstretched like that of a ballerina. Miharu resisted the urge to face-palm, and she sighed. "Tingle, it's time to battle," she said sternly. "Let's hold nothing back. Use Earthquake!"
The Metang took a moment to process the command, or at least to it, it seemed like a moment. In reality, it took less than a second and the Steel-type righted itself before vaulting forward, slamming both iron claws down hard on the ground and causing it to rumble and crack. Miharu couldn't quite remember what Magnemite/Magneton's abilities were and she seriously hoped that it wasn't Levitate.
