The instant Vanni felt the vibrations in the metal beneath her feet, she slammed her cane down as if to steady herself. Almost instantly, she realized this was a bad idea for two reasons. First off, even if she steadied herself on the platform, it would not matter if the platform itself wasn't steady. Secondly, if electricity was eagerly sparking its way across the mesh, perhaps sticking a metal cane into the mess wouldn't help. So she carefully swung the item up, grabbing it between her hands as a tightrope walker would a balancing rod. She kept her feet slightly apart as she inched a bit forward, glancing as she did so. Even if she hadn't heard that laugh, she could have guessed this was the work of something Pokemon. "This is different," she intoned pleasantly to the static-y darkness. "I can't help but think this is a violation of the building code, but at least it's interesting." As Vanni spoke, she slowly tried to make her way to a platform that wasn't bucking like an angry Rapidash.

((Alright no real point in making you roll against that.))
Surprisingly enough, as the platform almost tipped, swinging hazardously close to one of it's metallic brethren, the electricity would suddenly stop, and with it the swinging of the walkway. Transferred elsewhere the path which Vanni had taken would abruptly stabilize and the one she had almost hit would begin swinging instead. Seemed she was out of danger for the moment!

((Sorry I didn't roll before ^^;; ))
Finding herself stuck between the decision of whether to hold her ground or break into a run, the trainer's thoughts would halt when the platform suddenly re-balanced and stopped hissing with sparks. She paused, almost unwilling to believe her good luck, but it seemed whatever creature that had been trying to cause mischief had gotten distract. Vanni released a sigh she hadn't realized she'd been holding, shoulders drooping back to their original position. She righted herself, fixing her cane and adjusting her uniform. Well, so what if she was stuck in a sewer with a strange, oversized uniform? Everyone had their little quirks of dealing with chaos; hers was attempting to look presentable. Hers just happened to have been imparted to her by an ex-debutante who had tried to take her down the same path... with minimal success. Satisfied her ensemble was appropriate (and that her heartbeat was back to normal), Vanni continued across the elevated pathway.
((My fault for not rolling in the first place. Anyway continue.))

Really, this whole set-up couldn't have been within building violations. Not that a nouveau riche girl from a town that focused on science and the abstract over the physical realm really knew that much about building regulations, but come on. Anything involving the phrases "rickety", "rusted", and "hanging over a churning vat of glowing green waste" probably violated some kind of health and safety code. Then again, the Academy clearly had issues with child labor laws as well as child endangerment, so perhaps this wasn't quite the realm of thought Vanni should have been travelling down as she walked over the creaking metal mesh. But it kept the time.

Finally! Vanni found herself at the end of the current elevated walkway! A slightly rusted (again, that word!) ladder offered her the safe, slightly sure stability of the ground. And quite frankly, she was happy to take it. With a bit of care, she took herself down the steps of the ladder one by one, endeavoring forth into the unknown (or only mildly known) with as much care as humanly possible.

And it seemed her care had paid off! Vanni stood on-- surprise of all surprises-- another slightly rusted layer of metalic mesh. It was elevated as well, though not quite as highly as the first set of platforms she had walked across. It made sense, she supposed, given the sort of chemicals and properties the people down her no doubt dealt with. It was somewhat fascinating, she had to admit, even as she felt slightly intimated by all this industrialization. Shaking off her odd sense of wonderment, she prompted herself into walking forward to her destination.

This whole set-up was brilliant in it's own way, Vanni had to suppose. As she walked over the suspended maintenance pathways towards the generator, she had to acknowledge that a somewhat unsightly place storage and function, this was perhaps the best anyone could have expected out of the Power Plant. And as it was still working, she supposed she shouldn't really complain. It still left her wondering about these battery thieves, the supposed Joltik. It didn't surprised her that Joltik were here; like Corphish, they were the kind of Pokemon that could survive in whatever habitat. But still, stealing car batteries and the like from this area? It was a little worrying.

As she drew nearer and nearer to her destination, Vanni felt a curious moment of... not vanity, exactly, but a similar emotion. On a whim, she reached up to feel her hair, and gave a slight sigh. Her hair, which had always been a bit fluffy on the best of days, was something of a static mess. Though she couldn't see it, her ahoge was more... ahoge-like than ever. Not that she really minded-- appearance was a weapon you used against enemies who could be influenced or intimidated by that sort of thing, and at that moment, there was no one around to manipulate by presenting the image of a cute, pulled-together girl. But really, an ahoge? What mad god's idea was that?
Clank clank clank. The steady sound of Vanni's footsteps down the pathway would echo inside the room. Bubbling and splashing beside her the bright green of the water would provide more than enough light to see by...something which raise quite a few questions about what they'd been dumping down here. When she at last reached the end of the pathway however it was not to find what one would expect. Rather than a large electrical generator rusted by time and poor maintenance she'd now bare witness to a see of yellow. Not solid yellow as flecks of dark blue popped up sporadically here and there as sparks danced across the surface...and than it moved. Thousand of little eyes suddenly shifted in the girl's direction and the sea began to part...and it would become clear what she was looking at. Joltiks. Dozens of them. All amassed together on the old generator...but that wasn't all of it. Quite a few of the electric arachnids were perfected on various large batteries as well, a few of them even seemed to be chewing on cell batteries. These were the thieves.
A violent wave of sparks rippled between the Joltiks as they at last recognized the girl's presence as a threat...and no less than five would abruptly leap forward. It would seem these were the guardians of the next, each barring a rather distinct personality even at a glance. The first, leader of the pack was a bit larger then his fellows, both his left eyes missing and marred by a large scar, yet somehow he appeared as sturdy as any shield. At his side was a female practically foaming at the mouth, her eyes smouldering with rage, snips of fur were missing across her body, and near to all of them were a series of small scars. Just behind the pair was another male, his gaze mirthful and defiant, he almost seemed to laugh as the rust of the swarm bristled. Behind him were two more, a male and female like those at the front, yet these two seemed the opposite of their forward fellows. The male's eyes were as placid as a lake on a clear sunny day, and indeed his whole demeanour seemed to radiate calm. Beside him the female looked upon her companions with a gentle, almost motherly gaze, despite the fact that she was significantly smaller than the rest and likely younger. It would seem Vanni was in for quite the struggle!

As she approached the generator, Vanni swore she could feel her mussed hair growing fuller with even more static. She wrote it off as her middling vanity and placebo... until she realized what exactly that odd moss around the generator was. She took an involuntarily step back as all those dark blue eyes suddenly swiveled about and focus right on her. Oh dear. Well, the sheer number could account for the car batteries... good lord, where had they all come from?
There was no time to dwell on that as what appeared to be a minor guard of Joltik left forward as if to block her off. Vanni sighed, dragging her hand through her tangled locks. It didn't appear these little buglings would be interested in reasoning... so perhaps a show of force would get the point across. "Gilles, if you wouldn't mind," she said, calling out the shellfish.
The Omanyte appeared in a flickering of white light in front electric spiders. His eyes widened, and if he had possessed any of the appropriate body parts for the gesture, he would have licked his lips. [Why, what delightsome little morsels,] he purred. [Hmmm, who to taste first...]
As her Pokemon wriggled, in place, Vanni had observing the quintet in from of her She needed to target the most potentially dangerous threat to get it out of the way, which meant she was going to have to base her orders on first impressions. Not the best strategy, but it would have to do. That narrowed it to the leader and his hysterical second-in-command. Take out the most violent, or the clear leader... making a snap decision, and hoping it would pan out, she spoke. "Gilles. Aurora Beam, angry female."
[For you, mon cherie? Of course~] Gilles giggled, a strangely high-pitched and creepy noise. As he flailed, a glittering point of frigid light formed in from of him. With a snap, he unleashed the beam and the Joltik who seemed to be comprised primarily of rage.
Vanni's decision was a sensible one, but she had to remember that while she was only one, she was faced with a team, and they certainly knew how to work together! The moment Gilles attack went off the jolly rogue of the Joltik would dramatically leap...far to the side and way out of the way, placing himself in a better position to attack later rather than risk getting in the way of that thing. Likewise the Calmer and Gentler natured pairing would both take a few steps back before hoping to the left and right to gain clearance from the attack. It was only the hardier leader who would move to protect his fellows, or rather sheila. With heavy steps the Joltik would place himself directly in the path of the beam, holding the the raging female back with his hind legs. Yet he had no intention of simply bearing the attack. Static rising from his fur the Joltik would begin weaving thread between his mandibles, releasing it in adhesive globs to form a thick shield in front of himself...but would it actually hold?

It would seem that the Joltik's plan would indeed hold out; Gilles's Aurora Beam would crash harmlessly against the web as it careened out of control; quite frankly, it probably wouldn't have hit the irritable lady spider regardless. Gilles attempted to pout (whenever he did things that would require lips, it was always a disturbing prospect); why wasn't he hitting things with his delightful ice attack recently?
Vanni, meanwhile, was less interested in the failed attack and more in the battle patterns of the group. She dearly wished she had that Pokemon-To-Human translator; how interesting would it have been to ask the Joltik leader questions about their formations and strategies! However, a battle was a battle; even if they could communicate, she got the feeling she wasn't getting out of this without a fight. "Roll back," she ordered, wanting him as far away from the majority of the group during the attack phase; who knew what was going to happen? As she wateched him begin to writhe towards a suspicious place, she quickly added, "Not into the radioactive waste!"
[But it would have been so kinky!] Gilles squeed in annoyance. Still, he obeyed, and pulled away-- in a direction that wouldn't lead the shellfish towards the glowing green gloop.
