Veiris nodded along to her explanation, turning the object in her hand over and over again. But as soon as she mentioned absorbing power, he fumbled it like it had suddenly heated up in his hand. He hurriedly gave it back to Claudette.

"I hope you get it working and, you know, stop the whole enslavement and killing," he offered his own encouragement but kept his hands away from the object. The Clerics didn't exactly absorb Shifter's power. But they did rip it out of them. He'd felt that once. Felt the magic being forcibly pulled out of him. He wanted Claudette safe, but he didn't want anyone to experience that.

"Elves don't have a heaven or hell, either. At least, as far as we know. I suppose nobody's ever come back to set the record straight. Humans do, though. They go on and on about it." He gave a long-suffering roll of his eyes.

Across the way, Svana had finished her coffee and was feeling marginally better. Still sulking, though, she went and joined Kira where she had secluded herself, dumping down onto the floor under the table and scuffing her hands along the shaved sides of her hair. She was so tall she was forced to bend at an awkward angle to fit.

"Nice place you've got here," she drawled blandly.

Claudette looked concerned at the... was it fear in his eyes? It was something. She put the object away at any rate.

"Do you think it's too brutal?" She asked. "We have other ideas about how to stop them, so please be honest."

She didn't want to admit she had her own qualms about using the item, which is why she never once brought it out to test on Kira. And she had lied to Veiris to avoid explaining why she wasn't using this working prototype. She felt bad, but she knew if she started using it now, she would have to use it on her sister, at some point or another.

"I made it," Kira said, her voice high, "I made it and it's mine, but you can come sit."

Kira threw back another shot of whiskey.

"I want more tables," she said, laser focused on the two tables left standing in the cafe.

Veiris stared down at his hands as he spoke, "Sometimes brutal is necessary. The Immortals, from what you've said and what Kira has shown, have brought it on themselves by abusing their magic." He sipped his tea again to allow himself a second to phrase things. He didn't want to dissuade Claudette from protecting herself and her people, through any means necessary. He wanted to explain to her his reaction- his time captured by Clerics and being under their power. But he also didn't want to share any more of his past. He was talking too much, and he cursed himself internally for letting so much of his true emotion show.

"You should use it. Protect yourselves," he finished.

About this time, the door opens again. The man who steps through isn't terribly impressive looking at first. He's of average height, and while his frame is hard to discern beneath the robes he wears, the shape of his face is thin and indicates that the rest of him probably follows that pattern. He has muted grey eyes and fairly pale skin. His hair is black, and pulled back into a plain pony-tail. There's the faintest hint of a point to his ears, just enough to be a little beyond the range of a normal human's shape, but looking quite insignificant compared to the elves in the room. The most noteworthy thing about him is the intricately carved staff he carries, made from wood and carved with leaves.

At first he looks mildly startled at being in this particular location, but his features soon smooth out into a careful neutrality as he takes stock of the room. Anyone with good observational skills might notice that his grip on his staff has tightened to the point that his knuckles have gone white.

"I don't suppose you could make it any taller?" Svana wondered, scrunching down so that she fit a little better. Reaching for a nearby bottle, she tipped it up and drank directly from it, looking forward to a nice, calming buzz. "Burn it all, I could use a good plunder right about now."

As if on cue, the cafe door opened and a man stepped through. Ducking her head, she peered out at him. Not bad. The staff was interesting. She debated propositioning him.

"What do you think? Do you think he likes to be asked nicely or told what to do?" she posed to her friend.

"Maybe the elves don't have a hell, and that might be a good idea in general, but I don't care much for their ideas on things. I'd probably try to punch one of them in the face if I came across them," Mynoris says, perhaps a bit brazenly. She twitches slightly at Kira's petulant seeming demand for more tables, but doesn't comment. Noticing that Svana has finished her coffee, she watches the elven woman for a few moments. Since she wanders over to Kira instead of snatching up her weapons and flying at Mynoris in a rage, she assumes that no attack is coming immediately and goes back to looking at Baldur.

When the man in robes enters, she spares him a glance. Since he's not doing anything particularly interesting, she goes on to ignoring him. And while she's not doing it out of any malicious design, she ignores Claudette and Veiris as well.

"But," Claudette started, her voice was tiny and her words far apart as she thought about how to phrase this, "I'd have to use this on my own sister and my father and my brother."

She looked down, her face going red. He had told her about his sister; maybe she owed it to him to talk about her own family. But maybe not. She was a little jealous he didn't know where his sister was and that they'd left on good terms; but she was not as lucky. Her family knew where she was, and they knew where she was, and they... No. She silenced her thoughts.

"I don't think I could do that," she finished.

"We could make it like a pyramid," Kira said her voice oddly pitched, "a pretty, pretty pyramid of pretty, pretty tables. Yay tables."

She knocked back a malt liquor.

"I think you shoul- BLARGH!" Kira had drank too much whiskey, and here it was, a projectile of alcohol and sadness. All over her new best friend. And her favorite tables. She belched loudly. "Perpersitin," she said, trying to hold down another belch. Kira was too drunk to speak coherently.

Baldur chuckled. "I'd like to see that," he admitted. He also watched Svana rejoin Kira under her table, cramming down underneath it.

Still unknotting his braid, he managed to work it about halfway undone. The free strands waved gently. He pulled a bit of metal and leather out of it, frowning, and flicking it away. How had that gotten there? While his parents would be horrified at the breach in protocol, he debated cutting it all off.

"I don't know about the afterlife, about gods, about heaven and hell. All I know is what I've seen on earth. If they're there or not..." he shrugged. "According to my parents, Svana's spoken with the gods. They called her a prophet."

Over next to her new friend, Svana scuddled backward, but not quickly enough to escape the projection of vomit Kira shot at her.

She already had blood and bowels all over her. What was vomit? Except for pretty gross.

"I don't suppose our magic can clean this up?" she sighed wearily.

"I'm sure you would," Mynoris says to Baldur with a roguish laugh. "Personally I never cared much what the mortals said, or thought, about me. Not really because I was more powerful but just because words really couldn't hurt me, and thoughts were even less substantial. Still, a lot of my kin liked positive attention. They were much more intent on having lavish temples built to them." Glancing over at Svana, she ponders the woman. "Maybe she has, maybe she hasn't. Without knowing your Gods personally, it would be hard to say."

Then Kira gets all vomitty. This doesn't seem to bother her at all. "Well, looks like someone's a bit of a light weight. But not everyone can hold their liquor." She shrugs.

If the man was aware that people were talking about him, particularly the women under the tables, he doesn't make any sign of it. However, he doesn't do a very good job of hiding his discomfort as one of them vomits, and he turns his face away slightly, taking stock of the other side of the room for the time being.

"Clearn urp der tarbles," Kira said happily, so drunk her words were barely coming out in fluent English. "Ser merny tarbles."

She lifted her hand, tattoos ready to pulse forward magic to clean everything up, but then before she could think of that, something else crossed her mind.

"Glirtter!" She shouted, and her tattoos pulsed purple.

Glitter and confetti were raining down under the table. "Merssy vermit," she said, trying to not add more to it. "Merssy ferstirve vermit."

She pushed herself to a clean part of the table and began kissing its leg. She said, "Thirs irs lurk a sturp clurp!"

Hands stilling momentarily, Baldur asked, "Did they know you were there? I mean, actually know. Not just through stories and mythology, but from seeing you with their own eyes?" He finished unraveling his silver hair and started picking through the worse of the knots.

He struggled to smother a vicious laugh when Svana found herself covered in vomit.

Svana waited for Kira to flex her magical prowess and clean her up, but instead, she got distracted. Outside of her table suddenly exploded in glitter and confetti. She would have left the sanctuary of the table ceiling to clean herself up, but there was no way she was venturing out now.

The look on Baldur's face said everything. He froze, glitter and confetti piling up on his head.

"Don't you have healing magic? Can't you sober yourself up?" she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
