No offense but it's your own fault. They wouldn't ask you to come if you didn't have the manpower, mindset and equipment.
I would also say money, but any gov't would have us all believe a country's progress is brought about despite a never ending deficit and instead magically just. Happens.
Look at Canada. We offer to go places. People don't call on us, because they know we're already heading out. Sometimes we get shot down too. Surprisingly. Lol.

Furak.
I had a huge reply made up but gaia flaked.
Basically Yes, everyone has an opinion and a girl at work today was mentioning how she didn't understand HOW we could spend millions of dollars fighting or giving aid overseas.
I was of the opinion that spending that money would never happen here. We'd use it to lower taxes or something for the overall good of the whole population, and EVEN if we DID use it for one specific problem, it wouldn't END homelessness. They're all ongoing battles, and you can't stay as one of the LARGEST countries on earth and NOT contribute or interact with other countries when they need aid. We naturally have a HUGE resource pool (ex: most of the worlds fresh water).
And frankly s**t happens. You can't necessarily plan HOW bad a natural disaster will be. You can allot some money sure, but you can only justify so much.
So frankly do what you can, with what you can -> Canada's freaking motto, and something we're pretty good at to boot.

It's a hard lesson. But I'm sure there's something in there now for a fallback.
Canada's just got a surplus of common sense. Well ...sometimes anyway.

I feel the same way you do. I don't think we would be in a good position economically with the republican choice
