Kat drove further down the street. "So I'm assuming since you and this kid aren't friends, Sam, that you should probably stay in the car and let me handle this. I don't want him immediately assuming it's a prank." She pulled the SUV up to the curb to the house that plot dictated Sam had at some point said belonged to Daryl. "Don't drive off without me, please." She said leaving the key in the SUV as she slipped out.

She pushed back a strand of hair, heading down the walk to Daryl's door.

Daryl's house was a fairly plain split level in a middle-class neighborhood, evidence of his mother's gardening habit plainly visible on the stairs leading down to the driveway. In the drive were three cars, one under a tarp, two sitting there, and a fourth in the garage, which was opened. Drifting from the open door was the sound of rock music, and an air ratchet.

"Knock knock!" Kat said, walking up the driveway and hovering at the garage door. She looked around at the cars, noting them with passive interest. She was a little bit curious about the one beneath the tarp but reminded herself to stick to business.

"Yo! Gimme a sec! I'm under the car!" The reply was muffled and a bit hard to hear over the music, steadily increasing in volume as Kat approached.

A few seconds after the reply, a young man rolled out from beneath the car, setting the ratchet down next to him as he stood.
"Sumthin' I can help with?"

Kat leaned her hip against the car, watching as he rolled out from underneath. She gave him a smile, her arms crossed casually. "Hey. You're Daryl, right?" She was about to reach her hand out for him, but stopped as she noted the grease on his own hands and casually pulled her hand back. "Name is Kat, I was hoping to talk to you about some stuff."

Daryl wiped his hands off on a rag, tossing it on the tool chest standing on the garage wall.
"Yeah, I am. Now, I gotta warn you, if you're offering me a job, I already got a good one, and not looking to leave it. I ain't going to college, so no need to talk on that, either. If you're with the military, god bless you and the work you do, but ******** off, and finally, if you're a salesman, tell me what you're selling. Don't bother the pitch, or I might tell you to ******** off, too. So, if it ain't those, speak your piece, and I'll see what I can do you for."

Kat smiled, she liked the kid, had a bit of fire in him...but she knew well enough, despite the fact she wasn't with the army or selling things, she was going to be told to ******** off too. "Have you noticed anything strange happening to you lately? Anything supernatural by chance?"

"Lady... I done went and hit puberty already, if that's what you're getting at, and I've already gotten tail, if that's what you're trying to get at, too. So, if you don't mind, clear it up and speak your piece." He replied, making his way across the garage to the fridge, snagging himself a pop, "You want anything? From the sound of it, this may take awhile for you to come out and say, so, here's my offer to let you say your bit."

"So you consider yourself getting laid to be something strange and supernatural? To each his own, I suppose." Kat shook her head at the offer, "I'm content, thanks."

She pulled away from the car, letting her arms relax at her sides. "All right, spitting it out then. I'm here to talk to you, because apparently you have a super power. You're on a list with a bunch of other kids. I don't know what you can do or when it developed, but if I don't talk to you, a group of less kindly folks will."

Daryl had shot her a look, and then almost choked on his swallow of soda
"Wait, wait, wait. Super Powers. Like comics? The whole eye beams and flying thing? And there's this list with a buncha other kids that got it? So, who the hell are you? One of the X-Men? Oh! Are the bad guys the Brotherhood? Like Magneto?"

Hugh comes rumbling off the highway onto the streets of the uppers class of St.Eva his bike banging and smoking like hell along the way and stops running with a loud thunderous boom. He stops in the middle of the road and waves away the smoke while he dismounts and glances at the engine of his old beat down bike quickly noticing a hole that shouldn't be there. "damn gonna have to get a new bike" he mutters while he starts pushing it down the road.

Kat just gave him a dry look, folding her arms and waiting for him to finish, looking unamused.

And she waited in vain, as Daryl's expression slackened, and his eyes glazed over.

A second after, Kat's consciousness was pulled to some far-off place, happy memories of her childhood, some outside force sending her on a mental vacation.

Behind Daryl's house, three men entered the yard through the back gate, making their way into the home, and down through to the garage where Kat and Daryl were both standing.

Kat looked at Daryl, "Hey, are you..." but her mind decided to trail off quickly. A chill went down her spine, but she couldn't help it as she felt her thoughts pulled over to a an old conversation she once had with her father about what flowers would make the best gift for her mother. "Violets."

Her father's hand reached down to take hers. "The store doesn't got any violets, pumpkin, just daisies, and those yellow things...and I don't know if those are even flowers."

"Her favorite are violets." Kat stared at the flower display.

"Your favorite are violets, Katie, and they don't have 'em. Your momma's favorite..."

"Is money." Kat finished.

"Heh...hell, point taken, pumpkin. You know, we could get violets for free from the church garden...Just don't tell your momma."

"Cross my heart, Daddy."

Something in the back of her mind kept yelling at her. But she was more comfortable walking next to the tall man, her tiny hand fitting comfortably into his big warm palm. His gloves were always too big, but his hand fit perfect. "walk" She told herself, still in dream land, but somehow managing to move her body forward in a leisurely place, making the same motions as she did in her mind. She barely noticed she was moving right for the street.
