Esmeralda sighed over the pay phone. "Yeah, I know. I miss you too. Yeah, yeah. I know. I know. Yes, of course. There's one in the mail. Yep. Listen, I gotta go or I'm gonna miss my ride. Yeah. Love you too. Bye."
She hung up, shaking her head. Sometimes, she thought irritably, he could be so needy.
Loping back towards the place where Shannon had said to meet her, she grinned as she saw the woman.
Roman jumped when Kahlilia hugged him. He blinked down at the top of her head for a few seconds, startled. Then tentatively, he wrapped his own arms around her and said quietly, "It's okay. If you need to talk, I'm right here. You know that, right?"
He couldn't remember ever being so open with a girl before, but then it wasn't the sort of thing he kept careful tabs on. But the fact remained that he felt very protective of her, at least at the moment - and who wouldn't? he asked himself almost angrily. Who wouldn't? He was being ridiculous.
All the same, he let her cling, figuring she would let go when she was ready - and if she couldn't talk to him about it, the least he could do was offer her some support.

Xavier surfaced quickly and began to chase her towards their horses, laughing. Lady looked up from her grazing spot lazily and shook her gray-ish white mane. He was pretty sure Summer was going to beat him - and right now, it was the question of what she would make the loser do...
Kahlilia let go after a moment, backing away afterward so that they were a comfortable distance away, but still directly across. She was blushing again, and smiled apologetically.
"I..." She stopped herself from apologizing. Stop it, she thought. Her mind didn't want to listen, and she hesitated briefely before saying in a quiet voice, "Thank you."

Roman gave her a small smile. "You're welcome," he replied. Equally simple. Equally confusing. But what else could he say? With a little mental shrug, he just went with the flow. She seemed to think he'd done something worth thanking him for - and he didn't mind too much. It wasn't as though it had been something painful to do, comforting someone.
He asked lightly, "You wanted to go back to the barn? Maybe we could check on Ariel, if you feel up to it."

Summer rushed to her horse and put on her dry clothes. She then saddled Shadow and hopped into the saddle, "Race you to the house loser has to do the others chores for a week unless you have a better idea." she said smiling.

"No way in hell I'm doing house chores for a week," Xavier muttered to himself. He was trying to think of another idea as he turned to Summer and said,"What if its a tie?" He was smirking again, pondering the possibility of that happening. He had mounted Lady, who looked tranquil for the moment.
Kahlilia nodded, "Mmhm." She felt so weak and helpless right now, and she didn't like it at all. The last thing on earth she wanted was to be a burden to anybody else, she enjoyed her current independence.
The fog was thickening. Kahlilia mentally shook it from her mind, and it was like dousing a fire with a bucket of water. She thought about Ariel - the tiny, beautiful foal that they had experienced the birth of. Passing on the story to another person would never be the same as actually experiencing it, and they had been the ones. Us, she thought.

"Well if it is a tie then you get to choose what is done," Summer said then with a smirk she said, "Ready..set.." then before she said go Shadow took off at a fast gallop with Summer shouting behind her, "GO!" she was laughing as well.

"Cool," Xavier said amiably. He had yet to think of what he would choose when he saw Shadow galloping away. "Hey, no fair!" He called, chuckling, as he signaled Lady into a canter.

Roman's instincts told him that Kahlilia wasn't feeling much better, but he didn't know what to say. Giving her a gentle shrug, he said softly, "Come on, then. I bet Phoenix is impatient to see his baby - and Ben's probably missing you," he added with a little grin.
He looked back towards the barn. Although he didn't want to admit it, he was just as curious as Phoenix to see how Ariel was doing.

"Then make if far and try and catch up," was all Summer said keeping her face turned in front of her to keep Shadow heading straight to the house. When the fence came into view Summer slowed Shadow down just enough to make the jump then she was galloping again across the field. She looked back once to see where X was and how close he was to her. "If you want to make this a tie then catch up to me." she shouted.

Kahlilia smiled, "That'll be fun." She said, brightening up - or at least a little. Maybe it would help to see Ariel and the others, she said to herself. She was still very curious about how Phoenix would react to seeing his child, as well as Kelly. She smiled lightly again at Roman and began to walk calmly towards the direction of the barn, twirling and playing with her brown hair.
Lady easily caught up to Shadow, cantering beside her like a gray-ish white blur. Xavier was looking infront of him so that he wouldn't run into a tree or something, but he kept on sneaking little smiles at Summer.

Roman walked alongside her slowly, lost in his thoughts again. It was a tendency he had. Smiling, he said, "Well, it'll definitely be exciting, whatever else happens." He figured Phoenix would either be wildly excited or very annoyed, and either way Roman would have a tough time with him.
Fun and exciting. Well, there were worse adjectives, weren't there?

Summer just smiled enjoying the fun of racing with X. Suddenly she reached out and grabbed hold of Lady's rein's and stopped both horses. "I know how to make this a tie," she said.

"Yeah," Kahlilia agreed. She paused for a moment before saying quietly, "You know, I still think it was amazing how you and I got to see Ariel being born - especially this early." She blushed a little more, feeling like she was at a loss for words - and yet her mind whirled with them. Letters, words, lyrics, what on earth did they really mean?
Kahlilia could see the huge red barn up ahead of them and her mood lightened, or so she thought. She could also see two people, Summer and Xavier, going quickly towards what looked like the house. She remembered with a little bit of surprise that Xavier, although she herself did not know his name, was the same guy that had intimidated her greatly. She shook the memory from her mind and focused on walking towards the barn - or tried to, at least.
Xavier was a little startled when Summer grabbed Lady's reins, but hid it by smirking and saying in a slightly coy voice, "What?". Lady, however, did not. She snorted and shook her head a little, but didn't resist in any other way.

"I know how to make this a tie," she repeated then said, "One of us rides the same horse as the other person." "Oh and you get to choose should it be a tie so what do you say?" she asked smiling.
