Beren shook his head slowly. "No, I don't have Sight at all ... I don't know, maybe they're just those dreams that happen but don't mean anything ... anyways it's ncie to see you again, Vanya, and I look forward to working with you, if Ulrich approves."
"I'm sure he will," Vanya smiled warmly at him. "Just ask if you need anything, there are some strange characters here but they sort of grow on you."
Beren chuckled. "Thanks, I kind of noticed," he siad drily.

Lin giggled, wondering which of the first odd characters Vanya was referring to. It didn't matter, they were all lovable anyways.
"There," she murmured, "Now you've seen the parts of Haven, there are always other people, but meeting them depends if they're busy or not. Hunters, like I said are hard to meet... though if you stalked the smokehouse you could meet at least one."
Which reminded her...
"So... that's it. What do you want to do now?"

Beren turned to Lin and shrugged as Vanya headed off towards the barn. "I don't know," he admitted. "Perhaps head back to the house? I'm really not sure ... unless there's some work I can help with at the moment?"
Arwen looked thoughtful. "I don't know of any, unless you were to go on rounds with Ada or something," she murmured.

Lin had to admit, she hadn't thought about that. She had no idea what Beren could do for the days following.
"I don't know neither," she admitted, "Maybe we could just head back to the house and ask."

The days passed slowly, and Beren found it easy, despite the strange reactions of some of the people to him, to fit into life on the ranch. He spent the days doing whatever work he was allowed to help out with, going out on guard duty with some of the men when he was allowed.
At long last, the day arrived when Ulrich came back from the city, and it was about midmorning when the cart rolled into the ranch, stopping near the stone deck by the ranch house. The cart was filled with goods of many sorts, though a good deal of them were building materials for Shael and Adonai's house, but he did have some things that had to be dropped off at the ranch first.
Arwen ran out of the house to greet him, her young face glowing with excitement.
"Did you bring us anything?" she asked eagerly, waiting impatiently beside the cart for him to get down and uncover his load.
Ulrich laughed. "For your mother, yes," he grinned, "but not for you in particular. Come on, help me carry some of this stuff inside, your mother's been waiting for it."

Lin had found the time to simply spend time with Beren (and her usual people) in the past days. She never did get around to asking her question about Beren, she kept getting distracted from that question. However, she hoped that Ulrich would say yes, she really, really wanted Beren to stay around. She was stuck that fine morning in the playroom reading, which wasn't surprising since she really wanted to get this test done and over with.
Though the outside with all it's activities was slowly winning out over her want to finish the book, in fact she was letting Saki play with the pages after an hour of reading.

Arwen giggled at Ulrich and grabbed a few of the sacks of sugar, then skipped off towards the house.
"Guess who's here," she grinned at him, walking backwards so that she could grin mischievously at him while she walked. "Donovan and Celebor and Celeborn and Daeron went out on another hunt, so Kara and Lin are here!"
Ulrich chuckled and hefted a sack of flour over his shoulder. "Really?" he grinned. "That's good news. I imagine that Feng and Ryu are here as well, then? I know Aliya's been anxious for them to come again."
Arwen giggled and held the door open for him. "Yes!" she exclaimed cheerfully. "And Miyu is here too, I almost forgot ... she's so quiet, and she spends so much time with Aragost that it's sometimes easy to forget her."
Haradhel appeared from the kitchen, Arahad tottering close behind her. "Welcome back," she smiled at Ulrich. "There's been an interesting string of happenings since you've been gone ... far more guests than usual."
She moved out of the doorway so that she wouldn't be in his way. "Straight to the cellar," she smiled.

Kara sighed looking up from what she was working on along side Miyu. Perhaps she could just give in and give Lin those additional lessons. At least she wouldn't have to worry about Lin from dying from boredom.
"Lin, if you aren't going to read, put it away and do something before you grow cobwebs," she told her youngest, "Besides, you're normally busy."

Lin looked up from her book before setting it aside, it wasn't time yet though for meeting people. If Miyu couldn't go then she should go quite yet. So the little girl thought for a moment what she was going to do until she decided on finding someone in the house. Getting off her butt she wandered out of the playroom, perhaps to go help or something...
She had not expected to see hear the Ulrich's voice, and curiously she changed direction to meet up with him.

"More guests than usual?" Ulrich chuckled in amusement. "Well that's always good news. Just let me bring these bags down and I'll be back to chat for a few minutes before I head home. Ulani would kill me if I stayed here too long though."
Haradhel laughed. "Aye, I know."
She spotted Lin coming out from the playroom and grinned at her. "How goes the studying?" she asked softly as Arwen and Ulrich made their way into the dining room, towards the kitchen and then from there the cellar.

"Boring...." Lin admitted, "I read for an hour and then I didn't want to read more on that book."
She wasn't so fond of it, knowing that there was much more to do. The little girl tilted her head looking in the direction that Arwen and Ulrich had gone.
"Is Ulrich back?"

Haradhel smiled at Lin and nodded. "Yes, he's just gotten back ... he and Arwen are just bringing some supplies to the cellar and then they'll be back up."
Her dark eyes twinkled mischievously. "Would you like to tell him about Lothiriel and Pen and Beren?" she asked softly.

Lin's eyes lit up at the thought, she loved the idea of telling Ulrich. After all these were very interesting people, and she heard that Gion stayed with Ulrich and Ulani for a while and she was sure Ulrich would be interested in hearing about Pen.
She just hoped it wasn't the same kind of interest Elrohir and Daeron had taken when they first arrived.
Then there was Beren, she wanted to know if Beren could stay.
"Yes!" she giggled, "I'd love to do that!"

Haradhel laughed. SHe had suspected something of the sort - after all, Lin was an adventurous and excitable sort.
"Well he'll be coming back for another package in just a minute," she grinned, "you can tell him then."
Arahad peeked out from between his mother's legs and giggled, then ran behind Lin and grabbed at her shirt, trying to lift himself up onto her back. "Up!" he giggled in elvish. "Up!"

Lin grinned at that, she was looking forward to it, and having Ulrich here reminded her of the question that had been in the back of her mind. What was it exactly about Beren that made people act like that? She felt pulled back for a moment, it was Arahad speaking that clicked her in.
She laughed, "Okay, okay."
She squated a bit so Arahad could get on, it wasn't like he was heavy and he wasn't that tall... yet.
