Ali could feel her own hands grasping her head. They were as cold as ice. She raised her head slightly.
"Well, I can assure you, I don't plan on dying any time soon, so do you think you could let me get my thoughts together for a while?" she asked, staring at the heavily-patterned carpet spread across the hall. The pictures on it seemed to depict golden-haired cherubs frolicking amongst the clouds in a spotless summer sky. She glanced at Gwen, with her dark hair, tiny frame and mournful eyes.
Not much of an angel...

"Well... I don't know..." Ali made an odd gulping sound. She was lost for words.
"So..." she began, trying to get the sentence out in one piece, "While I'm here... I mean, the whole time I'm going to be here... You have to be at my side? Like, every second of the day?" She looked Gwen straight on, hoping against hope for the answer she wanted to hear.

"Yes." Gwen replied bluntly. "Except when you're in the bathroom. Then I'll just stand outside the door or whatever."

Ali moaned again, replacing her head in her hands.

Bump......bump...bump!
Michelle was now jumping up and down on the bed, trying to get herself tired enough to fall asleep. Normally, she would have no issues, but after going through that mess twice today and getting sleep both times, it was impossible. She had bundles of energy that she couldn't rid herself of!
"Five little monkies jumping on the bed, one fell off and-oh this isn't working!" The fustrated little girl sighed. "Perhaps if I just walk around out there a few minutes, I can sleep when I get back." she told herself. She quickly got out of bed, and kept the key with her as she shut the door behind her, carrying Mr. Stuffy as she wandered about happily.

"Five times?!" Ali gawped at Gwen. "That's ridiculous!" She shook her head, as if she was trying to rid herself of particularly vicious bees. The phantom bees buzzed and bounced inside her brain.
Finally, she cried out, "Why would my parents send me to a place that could get me killed?!"

"Yeah right," answered Ali morosely, leaning moodily on her hands. "My dad's practically royalty, he can find out anything he wants." She sighed.
"So now what do we do?" she asked Gwen, a touch of surrender gracing her voice.

"Listen," she spat, glaring at Gwen, "Stop being such a childish, name-calling little cow, or we're not going to get anywhere. According to what you've said, we're stuck this way, whether you like it or not, so unless you want to be spending the term in the hospital wing with that weirdo Michelle, I suggest you start being civil." Her eyes burned, ready for another fight.

"What, do I remember how I was abandoned at the gates, had to wander the halls for half an hour, only for everyone I meet to turn on me and soak me in tap water?" She stood up. "Oh, and let's not forget the fact that I was nearly killed by a fire-weilding freak from the other end of nowheres-ville." She picked up her bag and swung it back over her shoulder, staring at Gwen.
"Let's just go to bed," she said, starting wearily up the staircase.

"Well you were left at the gates because I HAD a roommate, but he apparently was switched out for you." Gwen snapped. "And you were sprayed in tap water because you were yelling at me for having a different charge before you and not getting notice of you until after you arrived. And the fire-wielding freak is normal actually."
