Lore turned his attention away from the two for a moment to lean over to Elnara. She was doing it again, it wasn't as easy to tell, but she was kind of playing with that scarf of hers.

"You're thinking..." he murmured softly.

Elnara flushed and laughed softly, averting her eyes but standing a bit closer to him.

"I'm always thinking," she replied softly. "Always ... especially since we came here. If a day were twice as long I wouldn't have the time to think through everything on my mind."

She looked up at him and smiled. "I'll tell you about it later," she murmured. "I promise."

Idhril nodded to Aranhil. "There's lots of us!" she told him enthusiastically. "There's Celebor and Serenity and Skye and Storm and Starr and me and Silver dear!" She giggled. "But none of them like shiny things like me. They like different things."

Aranhil smiled. "What a boring world it would be if everyone liked the same things," he murmured. His soft eyes brightned slightly, and he put one hand to his chin thoughtfully.

"Would you like something shiny for your own?" he asked her. "I think I may just have something for you."

Lore smiled a bit and nodded, he would leave it at that. She always told him if she was comfortable enough anyways, and it was her choice too.

"Alright then."

Idhril nodded eagerly. "Yes, please!" she giggled. She tugged on Lore's robes excitedly. "Papa! Mama's friend is going to give me something!" she told him, her golden eyes shining with excitement.

Elnara laughed softly at her daughter, but wasn't quite sure what to make of it. As a pretext for looking away, she looked around for Silvrendir.

Aranhil chuckled at Idhril. "I'll be right back," he grinned, and headed back into the back of the shop, out of sight.

He smiled softly as he nodded, "That is very nice of him," he replied back, "I guess you're going to be quite a bit like your Mama then?"

Lore reached up to brush away some strands of loose hair away from Idhril's face.

"Don't forget to say thank you," he murmured.

Idhril nodded and smiled brightly. "Of course I will, Papa!" she giggled, snuggling his shoulder a bit. "You always have to say thank you when someone is kind to you!"

She settled down a bit and grinned cutely up at him. "I want to be just like Mama when I get up," she told him honestly.

Elnara laughed softly and leaned against the counter, then sighed softly.

"Well?" she asked Lore quietly, her expression anxious but happy. "What do you think?"

"He's a very nice fellow," Lore murmured softly to her, "He seems a bit.. bothered, but I'm not sure by what."

It wasn't Elnara that was for certain and it was more than guilt.

Elnara nodded, and her face grew warm. "I think I may know why that is," she murmured; "or at least, I suspect."

She heard footsteps that meant that he was returning, and quickly added, "I'll tell you afterwards."

Aranhil returned quickly, smiling broadly, carrying something in his hands.

"Here you are," he said softly, holding it out to Idhril so that she could take it from him.

It was a brooch in the shape of a mallorn leaf, a thin stone of various shades of green that sparkled in the sunlight that caught it from the storefront window. It was set into a silver clasp that ran through the center of it as the leaf's veins, and the whole thing together was the size of both of Idhril's outstretched, open hands.

Lore studied it as he watched Idhril reach out for it. It was very well done, the green stones wasn't those he recongized, though they probably were of stones he had heard of, just he wasn't sure which.

Still, it had a great deal of detail.

"Oohh that's so pretty!" Idhril squealed, taking the brooch from Aranhil. "Thank you very much!"

She held it in her hands and examined it excitedly, then moved it to just one hand and bounded out of Lore's arms, landing on the counter, and pounced on Aranhil, hugging his chest as well as she could. "Thank you thank you!" she giggled. "It's so pretty!"

Elnara laughed.

Aranhil gasped, startled by the little girl's sudden movement, and he blinked a few times before he put one hand on her back, gently returning the hug.

"You're welcome," he replied, a note of wonder in his voice.

Inwardly he was a whirlwind of emotions. Of course, had circumstances allowed, it would have been Elnara that he would have been gifting; but now she had her own family, she was permanently out of his reach: to give her a gift would be far from proper according to societal dictates. It was for that reason, then, as well as the fact that he found Idhril to be rather charming (just as her mother was), that he gifted Idhril - if he could not gift the person he longed to, he would do as best he could while remaining within the restraints of society's dictates.

He smiled warmly and looked up at Lore and Elnara.

"There was a time," he murmured, "when Elnara accepted gifts in just the same way."

He turned his eyes towards her, and despite all he could do to stop it, his eyes softened as he gazed at her.

Now that was hard to miss, and Lore understood now the trouble that Aranhil was having. He wondered if Elnara knew, he wasn't sure. Though, it didn't bother Lore that much, mainly because he and Elnara had admited getting over mental boundaries that took them a while to get use to, but also because he liked Aranhil's personality.

"Idhril does seem a lot like Elnara," Lore admitted with a fond smile.
