Marael drew out her swords as Jeni shouted instructions, and Gaebrial let out a deep roar. The creature roared again in response, and Gaebrial crouched down next to Marael, growling and ready to pounce. His sleek blue-black fur stood on end. He looked terrifying.
"Steady." She said, both to Gabe and the rest of the group. "Hold steady." Marael twirled around her sword casually and got into a defensive position, every muscle tense.
The creature charged blindly forward, and Marael, who was at the front of the group, stepped aside at the last second, slicing her swords across the creature's torso in quick succession. Gaebrial leapt on the creature's back and started raking his claws on the creature. The creature howled, and whipped its arms across in pain (or perhaps fury), knocking Marael aside. She tumbled across the clearing, one of her swords lost in the fall. Gaebrial growled, and held on, tearing his sharp claws into the creature's back and sinking his fangs into its shoulder.
((Yay for dispatching my own character...lol...teach her to be a hero, eh?))

Valerye was suddenly very glad that she was up in a tree. As for her ammunition, she had none. "Oh forget it." Valerye jumped down from the tree, to find herself within a ten feet of the creature. She had no doubt that it could close the space between them before she had time to act quickly. The creature saw Valerye, and sure enough, it knocked her off her feet, her staff falling beside her.
((At least you're not making your character insanely strong. ^^ Or a Mary-Sue))

Luke, unsure as to how much damage he could do to this thing with a mere rapier takes off his belt. Taking off his cape and setting it and the sword aside, he proceeds to pick up a rather large stick. Rather large being about 5 feet long and about 1.5 inch in diameter. ...Dang, it's heavy... Without any more thought, he runs at the creature just as it hits Valerye and swings the stick with as much force as possible. It connects and the creature spins, a gigantic claw smacking Luke to the ground in his own recoil. In his being hit, Luke's unaware if he actually hurt the thing or if it just spun to throw him off and hit him.

Marael rolled to her feet in time to see Luke thrown aside. The creature stumbles forward, and Marael takes a quick running stride forward. "Stay down!" She shouts to Luke and Valerye. With a mighty "Umph!" She launches her sword in an overhand throw. It spins end over end, and slices into the creature's side, cutting through and sticking into a tree beyond. The creature gives a mighty roar as the sword cuts it.
Marael, not watching the progress of the sword, begins to scan the ground for her other weapon right after the first leaves her hand. She spots it several feet away. Luke almost landed on it, in fact. She opens her mouth to shout at Luke, but the roaring of the creature drowns out her words. It suddenly crashes forward, racing toward Marael, having identified her as the sword-thrower. Realizing she is virtually unarmed, Marael draws out a small bootknife and backs up quickly, cursing colorfully.

Valerye quickly got up after she was thrown against a tree. Something hit the tree next to her, and realized that it was the sword that Marael threw. Seeing that the creature was now charging after Marael, Valerye took the sword out of the tree with some difficulty, and ran after the creature, Marael's sword in her right, and her own staff in her left.
She stabbed the creature in the back, where she suspected the kidneys, if it had any, to be. Valerye didn't have enough time to take the sword completely out, when the creature screamed in agony and threw her back again.

From out of no where, Marael's other sword flies through the air and sticks deep into the creature's chest. I gives one last roar and falls, a sword in its chest and back. It's not dead, but unable to continue fighting. Luke is now standing, in the position he stopped in after throwing the blade. He's breathing heavilly.

The creature roars and Gaebrial leaps off its back as it falls to the ground with a crash. Marael stares at her sword quivering in it's chest a moment, then lets out a deep breath. She walks up to the creature, and braces her foot on it's side. With a mighty heave, she pulls out her sword, bloody almost up to the hilt. She holds it up and looks at the blood a moment, then looks over at Luke, who is standing a few feet away, breathing heavily. She gives him a smile.
"Nice shot." With a shake of her head, she pulls out a square of cloth and quickly wipes most of the blood off the blade. She then sinks the sword partially into the ground to cleanse it the rest of the way, and pulls it out with a nod of satisfaction. She sheaths it over her left shoulder and starts looking around to see where her other sword had got to. After another moment, she spotted it lying near the fallen creature, and likewise cleans and sheaths the blade. She looks over at Luke and Valerye.
"You have had weapons training before?"

Valerye shook her head. "I only just started on the staff, and swords are a whole mile away from my training. Thought I wouldn't mind it..." Shrugging, Valerye picked up her staff and examined it. No scratches, dents, nada. If Valerye thought that to be weird, she didn't say it out loud. "What the heck is this... thing, anyways?" she turned to Marael. "Are you familiar with it?"

(ooc - trust my internet to go down when all this was happening evil )
Jeni had been trying to get close to the creature, but it's wild swings and the others joining in had made it impossible for her to do so. The result was people getting hurt but the creature was dead. "Some of us have been trained to fight." she said after Valerye answered, and whatever it was do you think there'll be more around?"

Luke fell to his knees a few seconds after the creature fell. Upon the training question... "I was captain of a fencing team." I doubt she knows what a highschool is. After standing and bracing himself against a tree, trying to regain his breatheing cycles, he hears Jeni. "I think it's best if we just keep our guard up." He begins to slowly make his way over to where he left his sword and belt.

Valerye rolled her eyes. "Yeah, as if I hadn't been saying that since we came here." she muttered to no one in particular. She wasn't in a good mood. Not only did the smell of the creature's carcass make her retch, her back was sore. "But if there were more of them around, don't you think they would be here?" she said, addressing Jeni. "I mean, I think I'd be able to smell this thing from a while off."

"Possibly, but we don't know what it is, so we might have to assume there are more and be ready in case there are." she told Valerye. She turned to Marael, "Is there anywhere safe we could stay? We need to figure out how we got here, and with the possibility of more things like that, out here isn't the best place."

Marael paused a moment, thinking. The closest safe haven she could think of was Bredia Village, where she had been headed before Gabe got curious, but she didn't know what sort of a welcome they could expect. Her eyes roved over their peculiar rounded ears. They'd stick out like sore thumb. But at the same time, she didn't want to sneak them in either. It would look worse. When she finally spoke, it was slowly, as though she was still thinking things through.
"There is an elven village nearby, Bredia Village. It is home to a majority of the Bredia elves. That is where I was headed. The forest is not as dangerous as you may think, but there may be someone in the village who will know something that might help you." She paused a moment before continuing. Her eyes travelled around the group, comparing them to elves, and she supressed a sigh. It was no good. Everyone was going to know they weren't elves. They were too different. "I can take you if you wish." She said.
While Marael is thinking, Gaebrial walks over to Luke, rubbing between the tree and Luke's leg. Marael looked at the panther in surprise. He was trying to be comforting, a thing he rarely did for anyone but her. She stared at the cat in mild surprise for a moment. He sat next to the boy, staring right back at Marael with an impudent look in his eye. She shook her head slightly, her eyes shifting to a confused purple as she looked away.

After having strapped his blade back on, he feels the panther on his leg. He kneels and runs his hand bown the back of the sleek black neck. "What was your name...Gabe?" He smiles at this. "Yes, Gabe. Thank you for your help back there." He looks up and sees Marael look away. "Thank you as well. I dare say that had it not been for you, we wouldn't have survived that."
