Finding the end of the long, narrow tunnel, Ryuu felt around the wall, all around, not feeling anything. "Dammit, a dead end?" he said aloud, feeling like an idiot for coming all the way over here. Then, he raised his head, hitting the ceiling with a hard knock. "Ouch!" reaching up, he felt not the dirt and rock, but wood. Putting both hands on what he felt, he pushed, and slowly, it moved. "Damn, It's heavy!" he yelled, getting it to move, the heavy hatch opening up, cool refreshing air falling on his face. But it wasn't the air the city contained;this air was frech, and clean... Reaching up to the lip of the hole, he pulled himself up, onto a strange, soft subtance. pulling a handful of what he felt, he saw it was green, and had roots. "Miniature trees?" he asked himself, the Dome only having trees, and no oothe foliage. Then, taking in what he saw around him, he saw many treea;many more than he had ever seen! Closing the hatch, he slowly moved across the opening, unabnle to take it all in at one time. Wanderig into the forest, he felt at peace, no worries of the evils in the dome. He felt at home.

Sam had a relieved and horrified exspression plastered on his face. "Yes, it dose. Fumi, I'm so glad you're ok!" Fumi gave him the money and he put it behind the counter. He then walked to her and said, "I'd give you a hug, but sanitation would have a fit." Fumi smiled, "I'll get that hug later; I told you I'd be fine. But all the credit goes to... I'm sorry I don't know your name." Sam smiled and vigously shook the man's hand, "Thank you so much sir. Fumi is a sweet girl, and my biggest coustomer. I'd hate for anything to happen to her." He release the man's hand, "I'm just so happy you're ok, Fumi. You're the daughter I never had." Fumi smiled and said, "Sam, you're the father I wish I had. I have to go clean up now, I'll be back later to make sure the Life Security guy came." She lightly placed a hand on the man's shoulder and nodded toards the door; as she walked to it her hand slipped off.

"I'm Dominic, and I apologize for not introducing myself earlier." He said with a slight bow, cracking a grin at his over-formality.

He nodded in acknowledgement as Fumi made her way to the door. The young man admitted his curiousity towards the woman. He'd killed someone infront of her and she had invited him to her room; a few things went through his head then. Either she was going to question his actions, thank him personally or this was a very ellaborate trap; Dominic hoped it was the second option of the three.

"I'll be back later for a cup or two of coffee Sam." Dominic announced with a nod, moving to follow Fumi.

In a few minutes Fumi and Dominic reached her apartment. Fumi unlocked the door revealing an ill-kept small three-room apartment. She shrugged as walked in the door, "Sorry about the mess, I'm not accoustome to haveing guests." There were dirty dishes in the sink, old compies of "The Xerxes Herald" on the table, crumpled paper in and around the trash, scattered police reports over her computer desk and the occasional sweater flung across a chair, some times missing and landing on the floor, we won't even go to what her bedroom looked like. She walked over to the couch that sat in front of a small HD TV and cleared a place for Dominic to sit. "wait here while I shower, it will only take a few minutes," she smiled and quickly walked into her room, shut the door and locked it. She sighed and grabbed clean clothes; she then went into her small bathroom and turned the water on in the shower. Soon the room filled with steam and she cautiously climbed in. The warm water felt good against her body. Immediatly blood washed off of her back and she stood in horror as it swirled down the drain. Then she washed her hair and body. Stepping out of the shower she turned the water off and dryed off, she was still alittle wet. She slipped into a white t-shirt and jean cut-offs, her long hair soacking her shirt. She walked back to Dominic and sat down. Her shirt clung to her body and was almost pointless, as it was white and wet. But Fumi ignored that, hopeing Dominic would too, and said, "Now, first of all, sorry about earlier, I don't know what came over me. I write a colom for the news paper 'a Spotlight in Crime' and I thought I would be ok if something like that happened to me; that I would be able to take controll. But I was helpless, that man could have done anything to me and I wouldn't have been able to stop him. That thought just..." Tears welled up in her eyes. She shook her head to calm them, "just made me feel so vulnrable."

Dominic nodded when she told him to wait; he remained standing and unsure of what to do. He paced around the room flipping through a couple of old newspapers and reading a few headlines. His face crinkled when he caught the sent of something he couldn't identify, and didn't really wish to search for. When he heard the shower water turn off and Yumi return he moved near to the couch but leaned on the arm of the couch furthest from Yumi, he was still wary. He immediately tensed when she mentioned she worked for the newspaper; especially when she was the writer for the crime article.

"I'm going to cut to the chase, why did you bring me here?" He was on the defensive now.

Dominic preyed on low-rung criminals in this city; it was essentially his livelihood. A woman like this was a real danger to him, she could spread his description across the city, then he might have to find another way to survive. He shuddered at the thought of common work, getting payed very little for far to much work.

Fumi was caught off gaurd by Dominic's crassness. She opened her mouth then closed it, unsure of how to proceed. Finnally after a few seconds of thought she said, "When I first started writing in the crime section a few years ago I noticed that crime was only rising and that the governement was doing little to stop it. So I did some digging and, though the accounts are very old and vague, there seems to be a time when Xerxes was a sort of Utopia. I have also found evidence that there is a world outside of Xerxes and not the uninhabited one that the government tells us about. The way you fought was like nothing I'd ever seen and you seem to be one of the street fighters who combat crime where the cops will not. I was wondering..." she lightly bit her lip, "if you might know anything about why the government is so corrupt and what it is hideing? I know that a man in your possition must stay out of the public eye so no matter what you answer I promise that I shall not even write about the robbery." She cautously looked at him to see if he comprehended what she was saying. She couldn't read him at all. She folded her hands in her lap and quitely awaited his respondse.

Dominic's hand moved fast and shuffled some clutter off the couch. He sat down hard, a puff of dust coming up around him, he waved it away without a cough. Bringing his boots up they crossed on the coffee table, he leaned back abit and crossed his arms before him staring at her for a moment. He was trying to think about how best to talk about this, he'd heard stuff about the place being nicer before. He'd even heard the rumors that the city wasn't a safe haven but rather a cesspool worse then what was outside.

"Well, I'm not really a crime fighter or any such thing." He stated, breaking the silence, "I'm what's called a catcher, I trap the low-rung fellows and rob them. Most of the time it's petty stuff like wallets or what every new drug they have. Sometimes I get nice stuff like these guns from your assailant which I fence or sell for a fairly good price."

He cocked an eyebrow to gauge her reaction to him admitting to be nothing more then a skilled thug before continuing, "I have heard from many people that there are ways out of the city, that it's green outside. There's blue sky's and a animals and grass; things I've only seen in history books."

"Of course those are mixed with rumors that were in some sort of giant city ship zooming through space." He accentuated his point with his hand zipping out and about like some primitive aircraft, "I've heard guys mention maps for sale that show ways out of the city. Thinking back on it I've had enough cash sometimes to buy one of those maps but it's always seemed like some sort of fairy tale to me."

Fumi grinned when he said he wasn't a 'crime fighter' and thought, Brilliant, a theif who steals from theives. After listening to his whole answer her mind trailed off for a second, thinking about what beauties the outside could hold. Quickly she came back to reality. "So you're saying that while we live in this Hell hole there may be people, out side of Xerxes, that live in a lush world? Amazing," she said as she scooted herself back in the seat. "There are maps of this fantasy world; where?" Fumi had never liked Xerxes and now Dominic is telling her that she doesn't have to live here. If he could show her a way out... she didn't know what she'd do.

It was a struggle to speak, yet finally, (and by the grace of all the gods he tried to stay faithful to,) Cuthbert managed to utter a weak question in the form of an almost-inaudible squeak. "Where are we going, sir gunslinger?"
Roland stopped, his back still to them. "If you value our friendship, please do not call me such name." Roland said mildly enough. He was angry, yes, but not enough to project it across his friends, horse or no horse.
"But it's your title now, m'lord." Alain protested, a little stronger vocied than Bert, yet his knees shook violently, regardless. This was Roland, for the gods' sakes. He had been friends with both he and Cuthbert since the bib.
Roland froze, and Cuthbert expected his friend to turn with the bombadier's eyes again, staring them down as he shot them dead. This thought made him want his own guns. If nothing than for protection.
Roland did turn to them, yet his features were lightened, not the possesion of the Eld blood within him. "Nay, fellows." Roland said, bringing his hands in front of him, the first true parting from the big irons since he had put them on. "I cannot be a gunslinger to ye, merely Roland." He said in a half pleading tone. "I should not have any of this gunslinger business. Not until I come of age."
"That's now." Alain said, seeing his friend's face like that strengthened his voice back to the norm. "For when you take the men in Gray suits down, you will have made your place within the Halls of Eld. And with your father's big irons, of all things."
Cuthbert was almost certain that he would see Alain eating the dirt he fell into now, was sure of it. Yet it did not happen. And for this he was grateful. Roland simply nodded and turned back around, his fingers going back to the sandalwood grips, dancing along the ancient handles.

"Like I told you, some guys try to sell them to me while I'm fencing." Dominic announced, crossing his arms behind his head.

He twitched his foot up and down thinking about what to tell her. The youth knew what she wanted, but these people were his business and she was a reporter. The idea was tough, he shifted through his mind and the markets he knew about. With a slight nod understanding that even though she gave her word; whoever he took her too was going to end up in the news, might as well make it someone he didn't like.

"I'll take you to someone who offered once, said it was the most detailed one still in existance." He explained, his boots hitting the floor and he stood straight, "I must warn you it's going to cost a pretty penny, and you best stick close to me. The place we are going to is not someplace a pretty young woman would want be alone in."

Fumi blushed alittle at the comment of "pretty young woman." She looked at him excited and said, "If we can get this map; will you come with me? I mean out side? If we can do this... if there really is another life better than the crime ridden one we live in... then maybe we can change Xerxes. Maybe we could change it back to the Utopia it once was." She was smiling now.

((It's ok it took you a bit long to post; I'm on vaca so it's all good. I hope you feel better!))

Naara looked at Milo gratefully and handed Sara her blade. "Thank you for your kindness," she said with a little bow. Then she took off running. I need to get away from here... she thought urgently. As she ran blindly, she saw a man ahead of her. He seemed calm enough, apparently unaware of the battle taking place just over the hill behind her. He was staring in a strange manner at the bushes and grass around him, as if he was totally amazed by these things. That's very odd... she thought. She was very close to him now. For some reason, she didn't feel that he was dangerous. Perhaps it was a feeling caused by the fact that she had just run away from the huge, dangerous weapons. Or perhaps she was just delerious from the whirlwind of activity that she'd been experiencing today. "Hey!" she called out to the man. "Are you okay?"

It started with a snicker, then rose up through his belly and turned into a loud rolling laughter. He wiped away a tear whn he stopped a few moments later. Looking over to the woman he sat with he sobers quickly, she was serious and that shocked him alittle.

"We don't even know if we can get a map, or if it's real. We don't know what's outside, nuclear radiation, the blackness of space, or a Utopia of of greenery; hell we might step outside and find knights fighting with bows and arrows." He chuckled at the idea.

"As to weither I'll go with you, that's a tough one. I need something worth my while to risk my life and the idea of plants doesn't really send me into giddy-spirits like you." He cocked his head and gave her a smirk, "However the idea of rebuilding this city should garner abit of pay for myself, that's tempting enough."

"I'm telling you now though that if I think the situation is bad and you keep going forward, I won't follow, I'm more favourable to life then fame." With that Dominic stood and began checking his gear.
