Well going back to the balance thing and I guess reincaration. If you kill the soul that energy is transfered to a new soul. And If Byakuya didnt kill you he'd just sever the soul chain removing all you power. So it is possible to kill a soul or a shinigami.
Plus you see Hallow's eating souls to gain their reiatsu for the energy.

Humans can't kill souls, but the soul society is compramised of dead ppl, which must mean that only souls can kill souls. That makes sense, I think.

Yeah, and I think that due to the episode awhile back about how the Quincy disrupted the flow explains that souls go back to the human world.
