Considering that the Galvan setting encompasses a number of different cities, how should we designate location?
Just let the roleplayers themselves mention where they are in post. People should be able to figure it out.

Electric Kool-Aid

PostPosted: Fri Jun 29, 2007 2:33 pm

Edit Numba Tree
Gaia Name:Electric Kool-Aid
Name:Elaina ("Laina" to her family) Cybil Thanati
Age:20
Alignment:Team Tomorrow
Special Abilities: Elaina's mutation allows her to perform painless (this has been there since the beginning...did you miss it?)dislocation of almost all of her joints. She is limited by her muscular structure, organ location, and joint location. For instance, she can't compress her rib cage (there are no joints in the sides and it'd endanger her heart), and if she dislocates her elbow, dislocating her fingers and wrists would be much more difficult because it is harder to control the motion of dislocated joints.(this also has been there, do you not understand it?) However is she starts with her fingers and works up the arm it is possible. This gives her increased flexibility and contortion, which in turn can let her get into small and awkward spaces.

Joints are composed of two (or more bones), cartilage which reduces friction between bones, synovial membranes (also for lubrication), ligaments and tendons. Ligaments surround joints and to support it and limit its motion. They are flexible and strong. Elaina's ligaments are naturally stretchier than the average humans. In normal humans, joint dislocation always damages ligaments. Elaina's ligaments are more flexible and thus stretch more easily as opposed to becoming strained. Ligaments also support the joint, in Elaina's case, even when it is out of socket. This puts extra strain on the cartilage but allows her to maintain some structure and motion, although it is limited. While out of joint, motion is somewhat impaired, and as a rule of thumb, she tries to always keep one had complete, to be able to fully realign the joints she does dislocate. Because her ligaments are more flexible, even if someone else forces a joint out of place it would not be painful for her, unless it is done in such a way that the bones grind (for example popping a finger out and then trying to force it into the wrong place).

Due to the shape of vertebrae, spinal dislocation is much more difficult. Vertebrae are much more likely to interlock as opposed to slip past one another. Elaina is able to dislocate her back, although it is very hazardous to her well-being, as many important nerves (particularly those related to reflexes) travel through the spinal column. Elaina has found that through training the human body is naturally flexible enough that it is not worth risking extreme permanent damage to her nervous system. This kind of belongs to the idea that just because a door is open doesn't mean you should go through it.

Prolonged periods of dislocation result in inflammation especially of the cartilage. She is more susceptible to long term damage while her joints are out of place. Although it has yet to occur, it is assumed that if broken, her bones would knit the same as a regular humans, so she'd need surgery or a cast. Elaina's bones have no set recovery period, but she is prone to repetitive stress injuries and inflammation the more often she performs dislocations.
Codename:Askew
Costume: Because of the nature of her ability, her costume is similar to skiing GS suits, or unitards (like a full body leotard). This allows her to use the full extent of her flexibility. Her costume is patterned in red and blue for Team Tomorrow colors, but bears resemblance to Harlequin patterning, being comprised mostly of adjacent diamonds of alternating color. The Team Tomorrow logo is found on the upper right hand shoulder. Flexible boning runs throughout the lycra, to help support her dislocated joints, and prevent her from being floppy. She wears flat shoes, with very flexible soles, but will remove them depending on the job.
Appearance:Elaina has the build of a gymnast, mostly because her ability requires her to maintain that body type. She keeps her black hair very short (about an inch long) because it's a pain to be in small areas and suffocate on your own hair. Her hair is very curly due to her Greek heritage. She has gentle brown eyes in an olive toned face, which is complimented by sharp features like those you typically see on pixies in old picture books. Her vision is not the best and so Elaina wears thin framed, rectangular glasses most of the time, and occasionally contacts. Elaina is also almost embarrassingly slight of frame, this fact combined with her short hair have resulted in a very androgynous look, much to her chagrin. When in public, as it'd be a bit strange to walk around in a GS suit all the time, she dresses for comfort as opposed to style. She is at home in a t-shirt and jeans, and frequently wears some of Samuel's old clothing, even though some of it has hole in strange places.
Sexual Orientation:Heterosexual
Personality:Elaina is optimistic nearly to the point of naivety. She seeks to find the best in people, and rarely expects that someone would try to do her harm. She feels sad when she sees novas abusing their abilities, and sees herself as an adapted human rather than a separate speceies. She gets frustrated easily and hates to feel like she isn't useful. She doesn't usually get really angry, but if she does, she generally stops speaking and regresses into herself. When she's happy, her wit is fast and she has a strange sarcastic sense of humor, compared to the rest of her very open and gentle demeanor. She is fairly submissive and takes criticism easily. She lets others take the lead in almost all aspects of her life. Elaina is soft spoken and almost rabbit like in that she can be skittish and shy around new people, but once she gets to know someone she gives them complete trust. She can be almost painfully shy around new people, and it takes her awhile to open up. She worries about Sam working for Devia Corp. but has faith that he'll make the right choices.
History:Elaina's mutation came to fruition when she was fifteen, five years after Samuel's first displays. Her transformation was not as traumatic as Sam's: she was not hospitalized, and her parents were more relaxed and prepared.

It happened by accident at first, she'd been sliding down the banister of her family's suburban home when she lost her balance and tumbled unceremoniously down the stairs. Her mother, hearing her shout of surprise, had found Elaina in a contorted heap at the base of the stairs. Elaina was in no serious pain and was in the process of getting up and dusting herself off when she realized that her left shoulder didn't feel quite right.

"Laina! Doesn't that hurt?!" her mother had asked in a quiet horrified voice, pointing a shaking finger at Elaina's shoulder. Elaina shrugged her shoulders. One shoulder rather, as her left one remained stationary. Her mother gave her a strange look and helped her press the bones back into place. "That would've made a grown man cry like a baby..." her mother had whispered to herself. Elaina felt a little sick to her stomach and completely forgot why she'd come downstairs.

Shivering a bit, she returned to her room, sitting on the bed and hugging her knees. Her mind flashed to when she was ten, hearing Sam scream, she remembered blood, and sirens, and later scars. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and experimentally stretched her forefinger out and backwards. There was a soft "pop!" and her finger and when she opened her eyes the finger jutted out from her hand at a sickening angle.

Fighting down the urge to scream, Elaina used her other hand to realign the bones, before curling up in a ball on the bed. She expected that at any moment, her internal structure would revolt and explode from her body like Sam's had.

When she'd calmed down a bit, she called Sam at his college. It was then (during a very long conversation) that she learned about Galvan and realized that it was unlikely for her body to react like Sam's had.

After a discussion with her parent, Elaina was enrolled in the Galvan Academy, where with training she began to understand her ability and better control it. After graduating she joined Team Tomorrow, hoping to show that novas can be useful, despite the few bad apples. She sees Admon as a sickly misguided man, who misinterpreted the teachings of Galvan. In light of the events involving the persecution of nova's in NYC, Elaina became embarrassed of her abilities, and sought to hide them from new people she met, hoping to live as much as a normal human as possible, while still supporting the Galvan Academy.

Elaina's backseat attitude to life is partially because of her brother's influence. Samuel is much more aggressive and dominant than Elaina and as opposed to trying to fight back, she got very used to stepping down. Her friends also took advantage of this, and though while not using her, they simply assumed that she would always back them up. In a way she became everyone's sidekick.

Elaina values her family as much as she values her life. They've always been very supportive, letting her attend Galvan, and helping her through the trials and tribulations of being a person growing up. She tries her best to repay them, partially by working at her father's restaurant, and helping her mother at home when she can.

She is in her sophomore year of college now, and works at her father's restaurant as a waitress.

Sample Roleplay:
Quote:
Elaina made her way down the white carpeted stairs to the equally white foyer. She glanced down at her digital watch, silently flashing 6:02. She'd slept in, which was uncommon for her. She reached for the doorknob, but before she could turn it, she heard a bustling from the kitchen. Pots being moved, a pan set on the stove, and a voice.

"Laina! You have not eaten yet!" Her mother came rushing from the kitchen.

"I know Ma, I was going to make eggs at work." Elaina said in a half whine.

"Why wait? You are too skinny." her mother put in simply.

Elaina sighed. There was no way out of it. It was either eat now, or make the subway ride weighted with guilt, and besides, her mother really was a marvelous cook. She nodded and took her hand off the doorknob. Tension dissipated from the air as though her hand had been on the trigger of a gun and she had suddenly replaced the safety catch.

"Right Ma. What's for breakfast?" she said in a conciliatory tone. "I am late you know." she added as a last ditch effort.

Her mother's face broke into a huge smile. "Nice try."

Half an hour later, sitting in the rocking air conditioned comfort of the subway train, Elaina thought her stomach might burst. She hadn't realized that (if forced) she could eat four eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon all in one sitting. She made a mental note: Don't eat lunch.

She didn't like riding the subway, but when you had to, you had to. She tried not to meet other people's eyes and go as unnoticed as possible, it was easier that way. She pulled a book from her bag and opened it carefully, removing her bookmark and dipping it into the further pages.

Elaina was so involved in her book that she jumped when she was spoken to.

"Excuse me miss...but what are you reading?" a sitting across from her asked politely.

She was flustered, but tried not to let it show. "Er...Crime and Punishment." she finally mumbled, not looking up.

"Ah." the man said sitting back. "What do you think of it?" he continued.

Elaina began to get a little annoyed at this point, but fearing being rude, simply nodded, trying not to look up. "It's good. I like Sonia." she said quietly. The subway car lurched to a stop, with a hiss of air from the pneumatic brakes. The doors opened with a second hiss. "This is my stop." Elaina said, lying. She was still two blocks from the restaurant, but she felt uncomfortable.

She left the subway not looking back, and jogged lightly up the stairs to emerge on the street. Elaina checked her watch again. 6:47. Grimacing, she walked briskly over the next two blocks to the restaurant. Pulling on the door, it was already unlocked, the lights were on too. She hurried through the door.
"Hi! I'm here! Sorry I'm late!" she called as she took her coat off.

"Elaina, where have you been!?" her father's voice materialized from the little office.

"Blame your wife." she said simply as she pulled an apron over her clothing.

"My fry cook called in sick. Do you mind Laina?"

"That'll be fine, but I have a class at 10:30." she answered, moving through the swinging doors to the kitchen. (my favorite movie is Easy Rider...i think)

@ Knotbox

--I guess I'm okay with seventeen considering she's an intern... I haven't read all the backlog to know if Pansa's already made comments on that, in all honesty...
--That power is way, way too vague and powerful for my liking. So basically she can turn anything into anything, or get rid of anything she likes, and she doesn't even get tired from it? Nuuuuu... There need to be some changes here...
--Costume given to her by who? No passive voice now...
--I like the appearance. Though the first time I read it though I forgot to put hair and eye color into the mental piccy and she ended up with dark brown hair and black eyes instead XD
--There seems to be a little bit of contradiction in that first bit of personality--people find her to be deep, but she doesn't act like it at all really, jumping to conclusions and all? I mean, I can kinda see it but yet I can't, partially because for me 'deep' implies an emotional connection/understanding of people that an overly 'rational' person wouldn't have. And she's rational but yet can't see in shades of gray? That seems more to the irrational side. It's a difficult thing to judge, but I would say you need to either take out the deep bit or integrate it better... I think the rest of it would fit together without that bit...
--gained complete control of her powers, but her ability to do stuff was weak? I would think control would be weak too, considering her age and the fact that an orphanage wouldn't be training her in galvan-powers...
--The childhood is completely undeveloped. Fix that.
--Why must everyone have martial arts skillz? At least the second line there kind of moderates it. But seriously. At my high school of four hundred I knew five people who had taken martial arts--I was one of them, and two of the others hadn't been in classes since second grade. Wasn't I just reading a profile where the girl did soccer, but then on the side the character was taught dirty fighting too? It's like no one can stand the thought of their characters being helpless if their powers might happen to fail. Or something, I don't exactly know really... Maybe it's just a cool factor obsession... /rant. In any case, her personality doesn't show any signs of actually having been in martial arts long enough to be average.
--What her time at Galvan has been like is also rather undeveloped. You should fix that too.
--Field is spelled wrong and the last sentence isn't actually a sentence. How did she get this internship? Seems like there'd be a number of Galvan students wanting to do the same thing. How does she do it and keep up with classes too?
--In the sample, first paragraph has some nice details but it suffers from the same she-repetition I was talking about with DSV. You used the right form of its, yay. Is snicked a British English word or something? Rigilda's first line of dialogue is rather awkard compared to the rest of your writing. I think the Ray would ask Rigilda herself about the blackhole before suddenly spouting things about needing to tell someone important, considering that that is Rigilda's power. Overall it's not a bad post--eightish?--but there is one major problem: this character shows hardly any signs of the personality you described. As such, you may actually want to rewrite it, for practice before the real thing if nothing else.

@ Ariene.

--Bit of an odd name there. Guess it's okay.
--She usually can't call up thrown away details--so when can she? What kind of circumstances enable her to do it, and what kind make it difficult?
--in this section you have a few issues:

Ji can understand most things almost instantly, if given all the information. She only knows what she’s been told, or read or concluded on her own. She likes to learn new things about technology so she can create gadgets or devices that can help with someone’s problem. If she has the right tools and knowledge needed to make a gadget or device she uses it to the fullest extent. Her ability to adapt to a situation depends on her understanding of it. If she understands everything her ability to assess the situation and either fix it or escape from it usually takes 30 seconds to a minute to go through everything and pick the best course of action. She weighs the possibilities of messing up carefully before she chooses, sharp, technical mind, and computer savvy.

Consider this version, which says the same thing but is cleaned up a bit:

Ji can understand most things almost instantly, if given all the information. However, she only knows what she’s been told, read or concluded on her own. She likes to learn new things about technology so she can create gadgets or devices that can help with various problems. If she has the right tools and knowledge needed to make a gadget or device she uses it to the fullest extent.

Her ability to adapt to a situation depends on her understanding of it. If she understands everything, it usually takes 30 seconds to a minute for her to process the information and pick the best course of action. She weighs the possibilities of messing up carefully before she chooses. She has a sharp, technical mind and is very computer savvy.

--In general you need to reread some of those sentences carefully--a number of them are missing subjects, for example.
--This sounds like an angst pit of sorts:
She has come by information that she can’t fully process. Human emotions. They are way too complicated for her and keep changing. The one she can never truly understand is love. Love for family she does comprehend, but love for another human being she can’t even begin to imagine, since she has never experienced it before. She does have emotions, but she doesn’t understand them or how they work.

When I read that, though it's understandable, I can't picture it leading anywhere but a bunch of emoy harping on love until some guy comes around and steals her heart so she can say 'Now I know what love is' with tears in her eyes. So basically cutting that whole section down to a line or two about how her predictions don't work very well when humans are involved because emotions are too complicated for her to process would be awesome.

--'If there is a face to the voice she can conjure it up and draw it when she hears the voice.' You should make that clearer, since I'm assuming she has to have seen the person speaking to do this little memory thing, rather than being able to randomly know what a person looks like from the sound of their voice alone.
--"...so she is trapped in her dream world, which is mostly blank except for a few nightmares that her head has kept over the years. They play over and over until she wakes up." //hell no. That's just an angst pit waiting to happen. Trapped in a dreamworld perhaps, but get rid of the rest of it.
--There's yet another runon sentence in your appearance section. Edit!
--So you're telling me she wears white tank tops with a gray zip up jacket and blue jeans every single day.
--The quite type? Edit!
--The personality section could also be cleaned up grammatically. You should integrate the bits in parentheses better rather than just sticking them in with parentheses. I'm not completely happy with the personality at this moment, but as of now I'm not sure what to suggest. I'll finish reading it all first, how about? heh...
--Yet more runons in the history section.
--Rather odd choice of words with knocking boys and suitors. Childhood still feels a bit empty. What was her time in elementary school like, for example?
--So her teachers never noticed she was particularly smart? Dense bunch of teachers if so.
--Why'd she go through the trouble of hiding her stuff?
--Why hasn't she heard from them since? That doesn't make sense either. None of the lines about it following that first one much do either.
--And what possessed her to go out and join Team Tomorrow especially, when there are a number of businesses would would pay well for her talents without ever needing to know where she got them? Think, for example, about fleshing out what her time at Galvan school was like.
--More runons in the sample roleplay! Please look those up. Also please avoid using 'you' in that sense; while the intro lines weren't that bad, when you started using 'you' it started sounding awkward. (The same problem repeats in the ending lines.) In general those first few paras contain some good details, but you need to work on the delivery a bit.
--Some tense problems in there. Which means editing!
--'The next morning she started to type out all the things that this curious little gadget could be used for' /vauge plus random timeshift equals not good.
--This is a good line: How long had it been growling like that? It didn’t matter.
--I'm not sure where I would rate the sample overall. Sevenish? And I would like you to fix the grammar in the sample at least, so that I know you can.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2007 6:25 pm

I have completely redone it by the way. I'm really sorry about the runons. I talk almost the same way and my sister says I sound like Mojojojo from the Powerpuff Girls. (Yes, I know you watched it, don't lie.)
It looks shorter because it is.

Gaia Name: Ariene Whippwillow

Name: Jiana Karin Dorvil

Age: 19

Alignment: Team Tomorrow

Special Abilities: Photographic memory, ability to retain and process specific information (such as details of an attack plan or information in a book.), a sharp, technical mind, and computer savvy.
Ji can understand most things almost instantly, if given all the information. However, she only knows what she’s been told, read or concluded on her own. She likes to learn new things about technology so she can create gadgets or devices that can help with various problems.
Her ability to adapt to a situation depends on her understanding of it. If she understands everything, it usually takes 30 seconds to a minute for her to process the information and pick the best course of action. She weighs the possibilities of messing up carefully before she chooses.
She can understand most languages but is only fluent in Japanese, English, and Latin.
If and when she hears a voice it is imbedded in her mind. If there is a face to the voice that she has seen she knows almost instantly who it is and can identify them. It doesn’t matter if they use an accent or not.
Power Drawbacks: A headache gradually grows into a migraine at the end of the day, starting usually after breakfast, in her first hour of work. Since she is always working, she's always had a headache, and she doesn't know what would happen if she didn't work a day. She also has never taken aspirin or pain medication for fear of it some how ruining her mind. The headache concentrates at the back and sides of her head. Some days are worse than others, depending on the stress and what’s going on.
She does not have the memory that she use to have and looses memories or pieces of information. This grows worse every year.
Also, and this has only happened once or twice, she will sleep for a few days at a time to give her brain a break or to recuperate from being stressed out too much. During this time period she does not dream.

Codename: Tech

Costume: Black form-fitting pants with no pockets and a dark blue long sleeve shirt with the logo on the back. Alternate to this is a short sleeve shirt of the same color for summer. She wears a belt with the logo on the buckle.

Appearance: Jiana has short, dark brown almost black hair with a few white hairs here and there, a downside to her power. She has tanned skin, coming from her Cherokee heritage, she has no other traits that she is Native American. She has dark green eyes set deep, sometimes giving her a tired look.
She wears tank tops (alternate colors but I don’t see why she can’t wear the same style.) with a gray zip up jacket and blue jeans (alternate is shorts for the summer). She's about 5' 4" tall. Jiana doesn't exercise much because she is mostly at a desk, so she’s got a little pudge around the middle.

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Personality: Jiana knows how a know-it-all can annoy people so she doesn’t offer any unnecessary comments or information. Once someone gets to know her, she can be very talkative, but knows how to listen. She has somewhat of a temper but it takes a lot to get it to her snapping point. Some things get her angry in an instant such as bullying or some one telling her she is stupid for no reason. She doesn’t hold grudges very long. When she does get angry, she reacts like anyone else by snapping at him or her. She never talks about people behind their backs, for she wouldn’t want it done to her. When she gets angry she gets what other people say is a sinus headache.
Her favorite food is peaches. (I’m trying to make her like me so she would be more original and easier to play.)

History: She was born in Houston, TX but that didn’t last for very long. When she was three they moved to Washington DC. Her parents were like any other and extremely normal. They were horrified of the Nova situation and tried to stay away from it as much as possible. Her brothers, of which she had three, didn’t particularly have an opinion about the novas except jealousy for the powers. As children they would play super hero and she would be the victim.
Jiana would draw futuristic things like flying cars in sketchbooks. On the next page, or a piece of scrap paper she would write out the mechanics of how it would work. She didn’t really hide it but people thought she was just dreaming of the future. Elementary and junior high were as normal as can be. She never got into the ‘I’m only friends with a certain kind of person’ thing. She was a friend to lots of people from different cliques and somewhat of a geek. She read a lot, books like ‘Mechanics for Dummies’ and sometimes fantasy books. One of the first sketches she’s made was of a miniature mechanical dragon that was similar to a wind up toy. Later in her years she added a fire blowing feature.
Jiana was discovered as a nova when she was 14 years old, just starting high school. Her parents immediately transferred her to Galvan and she never heard from them again. Her brothers did send emails, but that eventually slowed to a stop, too. She figured that she could get over this family since she found a new family in Team Tomorrow and Galvan.
She joined Team Tomorrow because she thought the rouge novas were going a bit too far, and Admon saying that they were supreme was ridiculous. She doesn’t think anything is supreme over another living being. Ji thinks we are just the same as a horse, or a dog. She joined because of loyalty to the school and her friends, but also what Admon had done.
She doesn’t have many thoughts about the current events, just exasperated sighs here and there, and then work on a new doohickey to fight them off, or contain them.

Sample Roleplay: Jiana hummed a little tune. She was pretty sure she was alone, or she wouldn’t have started that pointless jingle. As she hummed, she figured that it couldn’t be classified as a melody, since it had no rhythm, or any repetitive notes.
She was in her room, which was somewhat small and comfortable- just the way she liked it. When she walked into the room, she saw a twin bed in the right corner and a desk the opposite of it. Two symmetrical windows were on the back wall, facing out onto the back gardens. She was glad they were there too. She would have something to gaze at while she was trying to fall asleep. There were white opaque curtains on the windows and even though they didn’t obscure light very well, the curtains were always pulled back.
On the desk was her laptop, which was white and orange, not black, as people would expect of her. It wasn’t as high tech as she’d like it to be, but it served the purposes she had for it. When she had gotten it a couple of months ago, she had a small bout of insanity, as she would like to call it and named her new computer Charlie.
Jiana, fortunately, came to her senses a few minutes later and never called Charlie by his name again.
In the right hand corner was a cup of pencils that were sharpened perfectly because she never used them. There was a stack of old and new sketch books on the opposite side of the pencils with a mechanical pencil lying sideways on top.
On another wall was a dresser with a mirror. To the right of the dresser was a small closet she used for her summer clothes, her winter ones were in the dresser. She had two posters adoring her wall, one of Einstein and the other of the Northern Lights.
Jiana’s eye twitched a little. She had been up for almost 21 hours, working on a new project. She thought of what it could look like right before she fell asleep the previous night.
She knew what it was the instant she woke up.
The picture of the device was clear in her head, and she had drawn it in her new sketchbook, exactly the fifth sketch she had in there. Hundreds (and she was exaggerating) of scrap papers of reminders littered the wall that her desk was facing, some from years ago, some from a few days ago, she could never tell.
Her head felt like a chainsaw was being buried in it. She blinked a few times, then realized she hadn’t been out of her room for the whole time she’d been awake that day. This meant she missed work, and hadn’t eaten. As if on cue, she stomach growled loudly. How long had it been growling like that? It didn’t matter.
She vaguely remembered a knocking on the door, but she had been too absorbed in her sketching to answer.
Jiana stood from the stiff backed chair and stretched like a cat waking from a little bask in the sun. She awkwardly walked to the door, pausing every few seconds to stretch out an unused muscle.
I’ll just pop into the kitchen for a little snack, then come straight back. Her mouth was watering for a peach anyway. She just hoped she could do it with out waking anyone. It was close to midnight, she realized. Considering the odds, she doubted it. In the dark she was clumsy, knocking over things and making a ton of noise. Something she needed to fix, and soon. No telling what trouble it can cause in the future.

Merlinic Matrices

Gaia name: Merlinic Matrices

Name: Chloe Anne Markson

Age: 19

Alignment: Devia Corporation. It’s a job.

Special abilities: Chloe is continuously aware of any and all efforts at lying, deceiving, and otherwise concealing the truth in her presence. The medium involved is not important; lies will reach her through television, books, movies, and even other languages. Deceptions like illusions and words that are technically true but meant to conceal may also pique her awareness. Her level of perception does vary according to her mood and how much attention she's paying her surroundings; subtle and/or small deceptions may pass under her notice if she is distracted or otherwise ignoring her truthsense. Chloe is not aware of what the truth actually is--only that a lie is taking place. However, she has become very skilled over the years at pinpointing the words least truthful in a general lie.

Her eruption also magnified her own ability to lie; given a few moments for preparation, Chloe could probably deceive even a psychic. Using this ability to its fullest extent, however, requires her to surpress her sense of self to a point that she is not truly comfortable with, as she must fully believe the lie she is telling in order for the act to be convincing. Even after she has reverted to her own belief system and personality, shaking off the vestiges of what she pretended to be is often difficult at best.

The main drawback to Chloe’s power is its near uselessness in protecting herself; though she could lie her way out of many situations given the time, she is as vulnerable as any human when it comes to fireballs and flying shards of metal. She also occasionally gets headaches from her powers, as if she has no chance to take a break from the lies around her a sort of unpleasant residue from them begins to accumulate in her mind.

Codename: Zutra. It’s a mangling of the German verb for “to be true”.

Costume: Chloe has no set costume, as the clothing that best enables her to utilize her powers is different for each individual mission. She does usually have an earpiece or the like hidden somewhere about her person, but she is careful to carry as little potentially incriminating evidence as possible into the field.

Appearance: Chloe is about five foot three with paleish skin, hazel eyes and straight, just-below-chin-length light brown hair that she usually keeps tied back away from her face. Her eyebrows, though no darker than her hair, are heavier than most women’s and tend to give her a rather serious air. Her features are rather pointed beneath the soft roundness the extra fifteen pounds her body carries lends to her face. Her nose is small, and freckles in the summer; her ears stick out just a little bit too much.

Chloe would not describe her body as particularly attractive. Though puberty finally saw fit to give her some semblance of a chest, it didn’t help at all with the way her hips were already quite thick enough to qualify as 'chunky'. She favors loose-fitting shirts, long sweaters and jackets that downplay her body shape; she especially likes turtlenecks for some reason. Chloe is not very in tune with fashion, but she does wear decorative scarves, belts and hats (mostly hats) when the mood strikes her. Gray and blue dominate her wardrobe, occasionally complimented by other neutrals.

Sexual Orientation: Straight, probably. Chloe has issues with relationships no matter what the other person’s gender.

Personality: Chloe, as almost a direct result of her truthsense, is cynical and misanthropic to a degree no one really wants to be. She also suffers from bouts of depression from time to time, though oddly enough she does have moments of being completely and gloriously happy here and there. These moments usually last until she senses another lie.

Chloe is usually taciturn, straightforward, and blunt, perhaps in some kind of compensation for all the lying she senses. When challenged, Chloe tends to get aggressive and ends up in people's faces much more often than she should. She knows her tendency to do this, however, and usually tries to get out of the situation before she’s too pissed off to think straight anymore.

She fidgets when she’s bored. She doesn’t like taking crap from people. She’s not the most patient person, but it depends on what she’s waiting for. For awhile, about half a year ago when she had just moved to Chicago, she was addicted to cigarettes because she liked the feeling they gave her. However, her mom found out not long after she started and griefed most of the urge out of her.

Chloe likes being alone; it’s more peaceful. The one exception to this rule seems to be young children--she doesn’t mind spending a Sunday afternoon sitting near a playground watching the littlest ones run around. Chloe likes getting away from the city, too--almost as much as she likes staying holed up in her apartment with something to distract her in the evening.

She’s also a little lacking in the moral department at times. For instance, stealing doesn’t bother her near as much as it should, all things considered.

History: Chloe grew up in the suburbs with her parents and her older sister Natalie, who much to Chloe’s chagrin was better at practically everything. There were plenty of neighborhood kids to play with to get away from Natalie, though, and Chloe often spent her afternoons roughhousing with the Henderson boys four houses up the street or playing tag at the nearby playground. The evenings were then alternately spent playing with Natalie, fighting with Natalie, or being distracted by something new on the television. Her parents kept her in soccer to help get rid of her extra energy during those elementary years, lest she run them out of the house in sheer youthful madness. She often competed with her sister for attention, but as they grew older their interests overlapped less and they had many fewer things to talk about, arguing or not.

Her father opened his own gardening shop when she was five, so as far as Chloe’s concerned her father has ‘always done things with plants.’ Her mother; on the other hand, is a librarian at one of the local high schools; Chloe loved being read to when she was young but gradually lost interest when she had to start doing the reading herself. Both of her parents are unusually young, particularly considering that Chloe is their second daughter.

As a child, Chloe was friendly, talkative, and enthusiastic about soccer, friends and the occasional art project but bored and fidgety in school itself. She had problems keeping up her grades at times, much to the annoyance of her parents; she quickly stopped counting how many times she lost her allowance for getting C’s in math class.

As she grew older, her social skills gradually deteriorated instead of blossoming; it seemed as if the preteen years had thrown her just a little too far off balance to get back on track. She had a few problems with some nasty girls at school, and alternately confessed everything to her mother and wanted nothing to do with the nosy woman.

Chloe lost her interest in soccer and, near the start of middle school, entered her arty phase, during which she made a lot of sketches she didn’t really like and hung out with people she wasn’t quite sure she liked either. They were people to hang out with, though, as all her old elementary school playmate connections were either disintigrating or already long gone by that point. Natalie made little effort to include Chloe in her own high school life, not that the younger girl would have fit in there either. In her free time, Chloe spent more time on the internet, watched a lot of TV, and occasionally went out with her companions to some borderline questionable parties. Her parents were starting to get rather worried about her when Chloe’s eruption made her current circle of friends a moot point.

She was sitting on the steps outside school listening to Jacobin, a rather odd kid with blonde dreadlocks, ramble on about the reading of Edgar Allen Poe he’d gone to when she suddenly realized he was completely and utterly lying about all of it. She didn’t even know how she knew--the knowledge was just there, as if someone had suddenly opened a textbook of the secrets of the universe in the back of her head. The sensation--a little bit of tingling up her spine, a sense that nothing he was saying was just quite right--was too strange for Chloe to fully make sense of at the time, and she hung around the steps contemplating this odd new thing for another ten minutes before she left the group with a terse goodbye. Chloe had heard of Novas, of course, and really that was the first thing that came to mind, but the odds that she might actually be a Nova were so minute that it seemed far more likely that she was just kidding herself into believing it.

Nearly home by that point, Chloe decided that it’d probably be a smart thing to test this strange new ability out before she went and told everyone about it. Natalie, who was talking loudly to their mother as Chloe walked in the door, gave her an easy opportunity.

“I got back my French test today,” her sister was saying, “and I got an A-minus on it. So you don’t have to worry about that anymore.” That strange feeling of uneasiness crept over Chloe once more as the girl spoke.

“Liar,” Chloe said, before the moment could get away, though in all honesty she had no idea which part of the little story had been false. “French always sucks for you,” she added quickly as the two women, who had been sitting at the counter, turned to give her strange looks at the interruption. Or at least, her mother was giving her a strange look; Natalie’s face was a bit more glare-shaped.

“Chloe has a point,” their mother said, thankfully pulling the conversation’s attention away from Chloe herself. “Make sure you don’t get overconfident. I saw your last test, you know.”

It was several hours of consideration later that Chloe finally slipped into her mom’s reading room to share her news. She’d been debating about just not telling anyone at all, but watching TV and realizing that she coudn’t stand the fact that all the actors were lying their hearts out convinced her that life was going to be mildly difficult if she didn’t.

When Chloe finally managed to mumble out what she had to say, her mother, to Chloe’s surprise, was practically estatic. As she called in Chloe’s father and sister to hear the news, Chloe realized with a rather delayed satisfaction that at least here was one way she could be better than her sister. She was the one who’d gotten the special genes after all.

Her parents didn’t hesitate in contacting the Galvan Corporation about giving their daughter a nova’s education to complement her normal one. Chloe hadn’t really been looking forward to high school in the first place, but she felt more out of control than anything else as her parents packed her up and sent her halfway across the country to Galvan Academy that fall.

Chloe almost made friends at Galvan. As her truthsense grew, however, Chloe found it more and more difficult to like anyone at all--it seemed as if everyone was at least a little bit of a liar, and a few were downright fakes. She ended up hanging out with the quietest people she could find, as at least if they weren’t saying anything they couldn’t manage to lie too often.

When Chloe discovered her own ability to decieve partway through that first year, her world grew even more complicated. Suddenly she could adopt any persona she liked and convince everyone of its sincerity--if only she knew what she wanted to be. Chloe was perhaps at her most honest when she once told an internet friend, “I’m not sure I like living in a world where I can be sure of everyone but no one can ever quite be sure of me.”

Though in all seriousness she should have seen a therapist, Chloe dealt with the bouts of depression her new situation soon led to primarily on her own, with some support from her small cadre of internet acquaintences. Even years later now, Chloe merely manages her depression rather than being truly free of it.

Her time at Galvan was lonely, more than anything else; Chloe’s strongest memories of the time are her mother’s expression at seeing yet another string of C’s and B’s and a few pretty moments when the leaves were turning color in the fall. When she finally graduated, it had been long coming.

It took Chloe surprisingly little effort to get a job at Devia Corporation. Based on some of the jobs Chloe has worked on over the past year and a half, she has few illusions as to why. Though Chloe is currently attending one of the local colleges part time, most of her life centers around Devia. She still visits her family on a relatively regular basis, but she lives alone in an appartment not far from work. Learning to ignore her truthsense when need be has helped Chloe deal with the world, but she still doesn’t like being around people any more than she has to.

Chloe’s currently leading one of the intelligence squads at Devia, but she’s actually rather uncomfortable with her rank. Not only does she feel generally unqualified, but her lack of age makes her feel doubly unworthy of being in charge of her coworkers. Chloe’s abilities allow her to present a supremely confident front, however, and she has gotten rather good at asking her team for advice under the pretense of cooperation while really clinging to every shread of an idea they give her.

Sample Roleplay:
Chloe needed to go to the grocery store. And she really didn’t want to.

Really, she just should’ve just bought that gallon of milk when she’d first thought about it, instead of reflecting on how much she was already carrying and figuring it could wait for tomorrow. But now, since she’d gotten it into her head to make a cake, her little kitchenette was a complete mess of half-mixed bowls and open packages, and she had just realized that she didn’t have any damn milk.

She always had milk! Okay, not always, but damn near it. Tapping her fingers against the counter, Chloe fumed to herself about how she should’ve had juice with breakfast that morning instead. Or how she could’ve just remembered the fact that she’d finished off the last jug before she went and practically emptied her cabinets onto the little plastic counter. Now she had to find her keys and change back out of her pajamas and go down three flights of stairs to her car and then drive all the way over to the store, probably with a bunch of jackasses trying to edge her off the road to boot. And that little list didn’t include putting up with listening to the cashier mumble that she should have a nice day when it didn’t take Chloe’s powers to know the girl could quite easily care less.

With a sigh, Chloe finally gave up on the fact that staring at the kitchen was not going to make one third a cup of milk suddenly appear within it. She really hadn’t wanted to go back out this evening, she thought again, grimacing to herself as she shuffled through the TV room. Just a damn bottle of milk...

Feel free to share if you see anything, other peoples, as I was a lazy writer and only read it over once after I finished.

Ahhh no, Pansa was working on a different character who was . . . completely all over the place, and coming from 20 different directions at once. This is . . . a new idea. Same physical description though. I can move it to 18, if that would be better?
And boy, looking back, you are so right about that. Thanks, you're very helpful.

Gaia Name: knotbox

Name: Rigilda Emmett

Age: 17

Alignment: Team Tomorrow

Special Abilities: She can warp things that are are the same density as her own body or less. She can move these through an alternate plain of dimension, and either leave them there, or reform them into something else of the same contents. She is limited to things she can see, if her sight is taken away, via covering her eyes, or taking out an eyeball, she can no longer use her ability. After warping anything she gets out of breath, as if she has just performed a physical activity. She cannot store things in her alternate dimensional plane. It is infinite, and it would almost impossible to find, this is too advanced for her.

((would like a list of what her ultimate abilities could be? Like, if she advanced as she hopes to, what so could ultimately be capable of?))

Codename: Black Hole

Costume: Black body suit, the top has no arms, with only small red caps for sleeves, and red eye mask. She wears the TT emblem on her red belt. She doesn’t have gloves. Her costume is a thick non-shiney spandex type material. A cotton rayon mix, given to her by the TT officials.

Appearance: She is rather on the plain side of the beauty spectrum. She has wavy dark brown reddish tinted hair, and dark blue eyes. Her eyes are droopy, but are also very deep, and seem to suck in light, rather than reflect it. Her mouth is wider than most, and she has laugh wrinkles when she talks. She wearings rectangular reading glasses when she is not in her Team Tomorrow Costume. She has thin bangs that fall onto her eyebrows that are dark, long and naturally thin. He hair falls almost shoulder length. She usually wears it up. She had a slightly more masculine build. Her shoulders are a little too wide, but her frame is altogether petite. Her hands are also slightly larger than average. She usually wears more prim clothing, that would categorize her as a casual business person, a prep, as the label is called. She cares about her appearance, as she is a firm believer in first impressions, this can be seen in the care she takes to groom herself, not get creases in her clothing, and be tidy.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Personality: She is a fond fan of practical jokes. She has a very mischievous nature, which cannot be deducted from her polite and mature demeanor. She's not a very self conscious person, and people don't find her to be very deep and very active below the surface. She can be cruelly sarcastic at times. She is an emotionally driven person, and is rather very irrational in her thoughts and actions. She jumps to conclusions and judges people very closely based on what she hears about them, and what they look like.

She is spiteful towards the people she dislikes, or whom she has formed a bad opinion of, but it extremely kind to the people whom she does like. For the people with the right causes, she will do anything.

She doesn’t see the world in shades of grey, someone is either good or bad, there is no in between the two. She has romanticized the entire situation between novas and humans, and the role of Team Tomorrow. She believes only a story like Romeo & Juliet will save them, and so she helps others through team tomorrow.

History: Rigilda was found in an 'Emmet Electric' cardboard box on the stoop of a Catholic Orphanage, wrapped in worn towel monogrammed with 'Rigilda' on a damp and dank morning. There she grew up, and made her friends. She earned the position of class clown, and orphanage goof ball. She reached puberty with minimal complaints and began showing the ability of making small things disappear in her classes, and as a little joke with her friends. The nuns figured out what was going on pretty quickly and showed that they were no fonder of this new trick then any of her older mischievous ideas, and she would have to leave if she wanted to continue.

She was then sent to one of the oldest Galvan schools in the country, and after her abilities were figured out to the point of, she can make anything she sees disappear, she received the nickname, The Blackhole. Now under proper training, she realized there was more to her ability and through the four years of high school at Galvan, she has learned to eject items back out of her alternate dimension, and realized that transforming them, while holding onto them, to eject them again, requires varied strength, depending on the items, and simply sucking them up takes almost none at all. Her strength for warping things in her alternate realm and bringing them back has increased greatly.

She became an average student in all subjects, her teachers say she relies too much on her warping abilities, in all situations. Her math, language, and science knowledge abilities are also average to a freshly graduated high schooler. She is no extraordinary student.

Her only claim to fame among her class mates are her pranks, and jokes.

She has been taken into Team Tomorrow as a trainee, under her own request, as she has just graduated from her Galvan High School. It is an internship-esque situation, where she doesn't get paid, and she's only there to learn. She doesn't help out very much in the field. But is more in a position of watching, and applying her knowledge under controlled circumstances. She finds it all very romantic, and doesn't quite understand the gravity of what TT is doing.

Sample Roleplay: Rigilda frowned and looked at the crack in the ground. She lifted up her mask and pulled her glasses out of a slim pouch in her belt, and put them on. She knelt down closer and scrutinized it silently. The Ray stood just behind her and crossed her arms with impatience. She sighed, and continued to watch what Rigilda was doing.

Rigilda slowly stuck her finger tip towards the crack and pushed part of it into the small dark space, and it disappeared. She gasped, startled, and pulled her finger back. There was no change in its appearance. She looked up at the Ray, who snicked.

“You look like a geek, Emmett.” Ray said, smirking. Rigilda rolled her eyes looked at the dark crevice and thought of something.

“Could you please shine some light on the situation.” Rigilda said, taking a small step back, and smiling suddenly at Ray

Now Ray rolled her eyes, but opened her mouth, without a word, and blew out a thin stream of light that did not penetrate the darkness in the little hole.

“Knew it,” Rigilda said, “It’s a black hole.”

"Okay, okay, Emmett. Please explain." Ray scowled at the internee, "Tell me more about it, I mean, your friends call you the Blackhole don't they?"

Rigilda got up and put her glasses away slightly ashamed of them, and licked her lips.

"It is kind of like me, per se, but this nova can make black holes out side of their body, that make the same sort of disturbances to the area arond it that their larger cousins do. They suck in everything thats close enough, that cannot pull itself back out. Including light."

Ray was thinking, "We've only seen small ones, and, you've told me, they're all like this, right?" Rigilda nodded, "Is it possible this Nova can make more damaging and larger ones?"

Riglida shrugged, "I don't know, its possible, and we've only seen these where there were holders for the black hole, cracks in cement, caps, buckets. I don't know what would happen if they weren't, like, contained by something."

Rigilda heard a sharp intact of breath quickly looked up at Ray. She took in Ray’s stiff composure and wide eyes witha beat, and bit her lip. Borrowing from Ray's anxiety, her palms began to sweat.

“That’s not good.” Ray said, “We need to tell someone.”

Rigilda nodded incredulously, and said, “Yeah, we should definately tell the team captain. Wait, aren’t you our team captain, Ray?” Rigilda tried not to show it, but Ray being worried, worried her too.

Ray didn’t move. “This is bigger than me,” She said, “I mean, we need to tell a real someone.”

Hi. I'm not an official reviewer, so you don't have to do what I say or anything, but I thought I'd give a few comments on the profiles on this page that I read, so that way Merlinic can get some feedback too. XD

@Ariene: You should get a reward for rehashing your character so many times! I admire your dedication! *gives her a cookie*

A few comments though- I think you should add back into the power description somewhere that the reason she has excellent photographic memory, is tech savvy and really analytical is because her power allows her to utilize more of her brain (the 50-60% thing you were talking about). Mentioning that might help connect all of these different mind abilities she has. Also, considering that she has little/no physical combat abilities, you may want to make her not get so severe of headaches, but that's just me. Overall, your special ability description may need more adjustment just to make the writing flow smoother.

I prefer the codename Techie. XD

You don't have to make her more like yourself, but that's up to you.

In your history, I think the first phrase sounds a bit funny. I would probably say something more like... "She was born in Houston, TX but her family didn't stay there very long." But this is more of nitpicky thing.

I don't have much else to say, otherwise. ^^;; Good work.

@Merlinic: Looks pretty good to me. Seeing as you're a GM person in this, I'm sure your character will stay realistic type depressed and not the so-called 'emo-worty' type, when she is feeling down. XD

There were a couple of sentences that looked a bit funny to me... Let's see.... The one mentioning that her father had always worked with plants I had to reread cause I was switching tenses in my head, so I think it's alright, actually. And... The sentence "She had a few problems with some nasty girls at school, and alternately confessed everything to her mother and wanted nothing to do with the nosy woman." I'm not too sure if you would use 'and' or 'or' to separate her two different actions towards her mom. The 'and' looked funny to me at first.

Also, I'm not too sure if she would immediately suspect that she was a nova right away after detecting a lie. Maybe just mention that she contemplated the idea in her ten minutes of thinking about what just happened, so we don't just jump into the sentence 'Chloe had heard of Novas...'

So other than me picking out nitpicky things, I think it looks alright. Do you get to approve yourself? XD

@knotbox: Looking good. ^_^ I like the rp sample for this one better than the previous ones, though why there are blackholes in sidewalk cracks I do not know. XD I just got a few comments about her powers. I know you tuned them down from what they were before. I'm just a bit concerned about how they could be used.

First of all, when you say 'density' do you mean she could move like... a bajillion tons of air into the alternate dimension, seeing as all air is less dense than her? Or do you mean things that weigh less than her/have less volume than her? I think that would be a bit safer, so she isn't removing the atmosphere from earth or something. XD So I'd write that she can warp stuff that is approximately her size/weigh or less, give or take a few pounds or something. I'd also say that the larger an object is, the more effort it takes for her to warp it (aka she gets more exhausted). And if she reforms something, she also gets more worn out, especially if the original object is of a complex shape/composition, and if she's reshaping it into something complex. I'd also be careful with this reforming power, because if she reformed a human in there... that'd be pretty nasty. And if she just dumped a human into the void.... well, that would suck. That's why you should put those size constraints on there so it's less likely she'd be tempted to dump random people in there.

What does this alternate dimension look like from the outside? Just a black hole that remains open while she dealing with it? Or are there neat purple lights or something? XD

Is it implied that in the future she would be able to find things she put in there?

I don't think you would need to list what her ultimate abilities would be, as long as you keep in mind that she shouldn't be able to dump lots of things way bigger than her in there. I assume that she would be able to reshape things quicker, dump more things in at once and not get as tired, and possibly find things? But if you had more powerful things in mind, run them by Pansa/Merlinic to make sure you don't get surprised when they tell you later on that she can't do that. Heh.

Sorry for skipping yours when I was going over some, EKA. sweatdrop So if you don't mind an amateur review....

An interesting power, is what I think. I can't wait to see how you use it in action. XD Do you intend for her to try and slink through places like cats can? Cause cats bones are more flexible than humans, so they can kinda squeeze together and such. I think. So if you wanted to add that to her power, I wouldn't mind (I dun know about Pansa/Merlinic though). I'd also think it'd be cool if she could dislocate/relocate joints without having to pull/push on them. Like how snakes unhook their jaws and such. That'd be neat too, but again, that's just me. ^^;;

I'd try to include some of her likes/dislikes in her personality, like what food she likes, what she likes to do (does she like cooking, for instance?), what she does in her spare time, what food she hates, what kind of people/behaviors irritate her, etc. You don't have to include all of those, but it wouldn't hurt to mention a few, or a few that I didn't list.

It'd be helpful if her history explained a bit more about Sam and his powers so the reader doesn't need to go read Sam's profile to not be confused. It'd be better to read each profile separately and still get a cohesive story from each one, instead of referring the reader to one or the other. Just add mention to what his powers were at first, and then a little more about exactly how violent his eruption was when she's thinking about it. I'd also add more about her childhood in the start of the history, before jumping right into her eruption. Just mention where she lives, with who, and how normal/not normal her childhood was, plus any other basic facts about her and her family.

Other than that I think it looks swell. ^_^ I like the rp sample. I wish my mom would cook me lots of breakfast. XD

Okay, my second edit is done. I sort of ignored my Galvan 2 app for a while, hence why it took so long to complete.

Quote:
Gaia Name: Yoder

Name: Samuel Argos Thanati

Age: 24

Alignment: Devia Corp
>He’s slightly paradigm as far as his nova philosophies go, but Devia‘s salary is worth going against his personal opinions.

Special Abilities:
>He bears the power to manipulate his bone, osteomancy. His power is only controlled from a live connection to his body, so all bone alterations must stay within or connect to his body. His powers of manipulation are only present in his arms and hands. His most basic power is compressing his bone, making is denser. This makes his bones less likely to fracture, but puts him at more risk for joint dislocation. While dense, any physical assaults will hurt more. The problem is that while the target is hurt more, so is the tissue between Sam’s bones and his target. He can keep any bone dense for about 1 hour. The more bones he keeps dense (the extension of a bone counting as an extra bone), the less time he can keep them dense. As he grows closer to his limit, his fatigue grows. If he reaches his limit, he will simply faint. If unconscious (from fatigue, being knocked out, or sleeping), his bones will retract automatically and cease being dense.

>The aspect of his abilities he most often utilizes is bone extension. He can extend any bone in his arms or hands to twice its length (technically, he can extend his bones to twice their original area), taking about 10 seconds for full extension. In order for the bone to do so, it must rip through his flesh. While this causes extreme pain, he has the supplemental power of hypercoagulation (severing his brachials, femorals, carotid, jugular, aorta, or vena cava will result in him dying just like anyone else, but any other arteries and veins damaged will clot properly). It's basically the opposite of hemophilia in that injuries he receives bleed for a very short time (tissue repair is not hastened, only blood clotting). When his bone is extended, it must also be made denser to prevent it from cracking when attacking. Extended bone puts double the strain on his joints, which has already given him the beginning stages of acute degenerative arthritis (such that the joints in his arms and hands ache for several hours after his power have been used). However, While using his powers, his joints don’t hurt at all. He will usually extend his ulna and radius (forearm) forward, creating a tonfa-like weapon. He can taper his extended bone to any degree he wishes, making it possible for his extended bone to seem longer than his original bone (though it still takes up the same total area). The most common shape he uses when extending these bones resembles the blade of a sword and the point of a spear (double-edged with a pointed tip). Thus, he can slash and stab an enemy effectively (the edges and point being as sharp as any sword or spear). For very close-range combat, he may instead extend all the bones in his hand forward, creating multiple-layered claws. When his bone is retracted (which takes only 5 seconds), he becomes extremely susceptible to infection and must be treated by a medical specialist (the wounds appear like deep slits). Because of this, he will leave his bone extended for a long time (his extended bone sealing/protecting the wound).

>While keeping his bone extended his hearing is mildly impaired (can‘t hear normal speech), while keeping bone dense his hearing is moderately impaired (can‘t hear a loud/animated/intense discussion), when in the act of extending or retracting bone or starting or stopping bone being dense, his hearing is severely impaired (can only hear higher than about 80 decibels). His power has left him with a permanent hearing disability in that he can’t hear sounds below about 20 decibels (whispering). Also, his powers cause him to tire very easily (keeping bone extended doesn‘t require constant use of powers, but keeping bone dense does). Finally, any use of his powers makes his pupils become white. They will remain white until his bone has retracted and returned to normal density.

>If a bone is broken along the extension (less than half of the total extended length), he can retract it (as it will return to the original length). However, if the entire extension or more snaps off (half of the total extended length or more), it can’t be retracted (as it is equal to or less than the original length). Any bone that has been broken off to any extent will regrow in anywhere from 2 days to 1 week. Until that time, that specific bone cannot be extended. If a bone is cracked, it will take 1 day to heal and cannot be extended until that time.

Codename: Kokkalo (“bone” in Greek)

Nova Costume: He wears a solid black outfit, consisting of an untucked short-sleeved black button-down shirt, loose-fitting black cargo khakis (not sagging, just more leg room), and thickly-treaded black sneakers. On the front of his t-shirt, the angular letter “Kappa” is scrawled in white. Various other details of his suit include a gray leather belt and a snug gray fedora with a black hatband. The final piece of his suit is a spacious white cape that is large enough to wrap around his entire body.

Regular Clothing: Due to his job in the field of Business Administration, he is most often found in a neat suit with an expensive blazer jacket. In leisure, he prefers jeans (shorts are fine if the weather requires) always accompanied by a long-sleeved polo shirt that’s about one size too big for him. He uses this to attempt to hide the scars on his arms and hands from the public. If he is ever to be in close or direct contact with others, he will don gloves (white formal gloves if in a business situation and black driving gloves if in a relaxed setting).

Physical Appearance: Having an olive complexion, Sam comes from a Mediterranean family. His black hair is kept neat and well-trimmed, and his face is clean-shaven. His irises are a basic brown. His jaw is well-defined, as are his cheek bones. His metabolism keeps him very slim, though he is physically fit as well. At a height of 5'8", Sam weighs around 160 pounds.

Sexual Orientation: Straight and single

Personality:
>He’s of the solemn sort, always logical and calculating the odds of any venture, whether in business or everyday life. He’s usually distrusting of the average acquaintance, which is the nature of the competitive world known as business. His sense of humor is somewhat dark, even a touch morbid at times. Samuel has to keep a conscious check on his emotions, because they can drastically alter his powers. Prolonged or extreme anger may cause him to lose control of his powers, while depression might prevent him from using his powers at all. Procrastination is a big pet-peeve of his, and leech-like people or suck-ups bug him too (since he’s had his fair share of both). He is delighted with punctuality and precision and is always willing to help his subordinates. Those with a lack of focus or motivation sadden him, but he chooses not to dwell on them. He’s never really been in a serious relationship, always being a little paranoid about someone close discovering that he is a nova and rejecting him for it (his scars are pretty obvious if he were to ever get intimate). For relaxation and a mental challenge, he enjoys facing someone in a strategic board game (chess, checkers, etc…).

>Nova persecution has always been quite a sensitive subject for him. Admon’s sudden onslaught of destruction startled the entire world, including Sam. He disagrees with Admon’s killing, though Sam does feel that Novas are superior to humans. So to Sam, Admon’s actions are wrong, but his views are correct. Sam believes that in order for Admon’s views to be truly realized, Novas cannot continually fuel the raging aggression between races. Since Novas are of a higher evolution, they should be the more mature ones, bearing with human error, fear, and violence until they can properly coexist.

History: My favorite food is candy! xp
>Sam grew up in a small town in upper New York, his parents having emigrated to America before his birth. His family was in the higher end of the middle class, his father works as a successful restaurant owner, having 3 thriving locations in the region. His mother is a homemaker and stay-at-home mother who helped her husband keep track of business finances. 4 years later, his parents had another child. Through involving themselves in community projects and affairs, the Thanati’s have become a respected family. In this entrepreneur-friendly environment, Sam grew to love the tactics of running a good business.

>Sam erupted at 14 in a macabre display in his room. His humerus, ulna, radius, carpals, metacarpals, and phalanges all extended spontaneously in both directions. The pain caused him to pass out only a few moments later. Waking up at the local hospital, his parents were consulting with a doctor outside his room door. His bone had retracted (and was retracted when his mother found him passed out and spattered with blood several minutes after he fainted). All that was left were large slits on either side of each of his joints. The pain was still immense, but soon the codine in his IV kicked in. Outside his room, the doctor and his parents were puzzled. Those kind of wounds is such specific points were such an anomaly. Naturally his parents were questioned but found innocent. The doctor was also puzzled by how little blood he had lost; Sam didn’t even need a transfusion. He was released a few days later. His parents were told to watch for infection, but none developed thanks to the skill of the surgeon in stitching the wounds properly. For a few years afterward, the same uncontrollable events would take place often and without warning. Each time, Sam’s pain resilience grew until the first time he didn’t faint when it happened. Since he was conscious, he could observe exactly what happens during these spontaneous events. From then on, he worked to attempt to control his powers. During high school his little sister, Elaina (played by EKA), developed nova abilities as well (the ability to dislocate any of her joints freely and painlessly).

>By the time he finished high school, he had an adequate control of his powers. While studying for a BA degree in college, he would still have involuntary bone extension, but he could usually retract it right away (and it involved fewer and smaller bones than his first episodes). While in college, his parents found out about a corporation called Galvan. Encouraged by Galvan’s claims, his parents sent his little sister, Elaina, to attend. Obviously, Samuel discovered Galvan too (since he encouraged Laina to attend Galvan Academy), but he was too engrossed in his study to bother with developing his nova abilities. Laying the foundations for his career was his primary objective at that point in his life. Later he would begin to focus more on his being a nova.

>Towards the end of his 4-year university, Sam discovered that he could adjust the density of his bone by using his powers to compress it. After college he found a fine job that was rich with advancement opportunities at a well-known business organization near NYC (and by then he had a firm grasp on the voluntary use of his powers). This was the start of his vocational career.

>Since, he has grown in the business to a position of relative authority. During the past year he has been remotely working for Devia (which he found out about while considering investing in nova-related stocks), a rising company dealing with novas. While it was less focused on developing nova powers and more driven towards selling nova services and abilities, Sam couldn’t resist the amounts of money they were paying novas. Because of his position, he can work from home freely. He uses this to his advantage, allowing him to retain a normal job and express his nova status simultaneously (wishing to keep those parts of his life very distant from each other).

>In a suitcase or at his residence, he always keeps arthritis medication close by. Additionally, he pops calcium tablets (fortified with Vitamin D, of course) on a regular basis, as it keeps his bones strong and healthy. Because he worked in his family’s restaurant chain while on breaks from college, he can whip up a decent meal and enjoys doing so frequently.

Sample Roleplay:
Quote:
Samuel, dressed in his usual career attire, was pacing behind his desk while holding a cellular phone up to his ear. The conversation was quiet and was mostly one-sided (as Sam spoke infrequently during the call).

The call came to an end and Sam sighed and repeated the basics of his instructions back to the Devia official, "Assignment: A-086. Target: #1377. Location: Paradise. Deadline: 1011~011110_bw, 0101 01111. Status: Accepted." He ended the call, closed his phone and slid it into his pocket. Sitting down in his designer office chair, he logged on to his computer. Nonchalantly performing routine job procedures, his mind was elsewhere.

"Great, one of the few days that I have to come in to the office, and I get a call from Devia. I don't want to miss this board meeting, because it could put me in good standing with the chairs of the company. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to attend it and complete my nova task. I guess I'll just have to skip out on the meeting," Samuel thought amidst numerous windows flashing past his habitual stare at the screen. Finishing his basic duties for the day, he grabbed his briefcase. Clocking out according to protocol, he slipped into the parking garage next to his company's building.

"Heh, I just made it out of there. The meeting will be starting in just a few minutes." He jumped in his car and threw his briefcase in the back. Starting the engine, he pulled out and drove towards the airport.

"Okay, so I've got to be in Los Angeles at 10 if I can hope to meet the 11:30 deadline. I've got a ticket waiting for me and the target is guaranteed to be alone. This should be a fairly routine cloak-and-dagger assassination. I'll be in and out before he can shout. Normally that'd be the case, but this is an A-086, not an A-085. I've got to get some information from him before the assassination and cover it up afterward. Ugh, they've been giving me quite a few of these recently." Sam drove into the airport lot and grabbed his suitcase, turning off the car.

Once inside, he went to the ticket counter and accosted an employee behind the desk, "Excuse me, is this where we pick up previously purchased or held tickets?"

The lady perkily replied, "Why, yes! If you have a ticket here, all you need do is state the flight number and the password you created online."

"Okay," Sam began, "I'm on Flight 492 leaving from Terminal C."

The lady typed it in efficiently and, seeing that the customer had stopped speaking, asked for the remaining information, "May I please have your password?"

Sam replied, "Sure, my password is: NEW." The lady behind the counter entered it into the computer and gave Samuel his ticket, wishing him a happy flight as he went towards Terminal C. Samuel came to the security metal detectors and put his briefcase of the conveyor. He passed through the magnetic field without incident just as his briefcase passed through the x-ray machine without problems. Grabbing it, he came to his gate. Sam arrived and stood in line (as Flight 492 was already boarding passengers).

Much Panpear love.

I'lll work on said sentences--yeah, I'm not sure if I can approve myself, but Pansa informally okayed it, so assuming Krome does the same, I think I'm good. Comma whoa in my sentence there.

So EKA is the first. Hokay.

--first off, you really need to get rid of the no longer necessary snarky comments.
--has 'holes' in strange places--typo. And not knowing the brother thing beforehand, it does sound like you're referencing an old lover of hers of something... Which then makes it slightly odd to go 'oh, wait, that's the brother, isn't it...'. Anyway. /ramble
--spelling of species. Though I'm not sure my spelling's the right one either XD (I kind of hate that word actually... too many vowels... /ramble again)
--if she's been on assignments for TT and has likely seen the worst in people more than once, how is she still that incredibly naive? I think it's the word naive that's bugging me most in there... not sure... In general though, I do like the 'everyone's sidekick' idea you've got going.
--Panpear's suggestion of adding some detail on Sam so that this profile could stand alone is a very good idea, by the way. Oh, and if you want to make her able to pop her joints out without having to pull on them, I think I would be okay with it... Pop them back in without having to push, maybe.
--When she was learning, what exactly did her losing control of her ability entail?
--Just to clarify, she enrolled at college (full time?), works as a waitress (part time?) and works for TT how, exactly? Like, would they contact her about some problem or another and expect her to run out of class/work at any time to help out? Thinking logistics and all.

Overall, we're mostly smoothing out details. You'll prolly be done soon ^^

As panpear's suggestions (which I like a lot XD) I've made some changes.

Special Abilities: She can warp things that are around the same size as her own body or less. She can move these through an alternate plane of dimension, and either leave them there, or reform them into something else of the same materials. She is limited to things she can see, if her sight is taken away, via covering her eyes, or taking out an eyeball, she can no longer use her ability. Moving things into her alternate plane and then out again, say to safeguard someone from an attack, she needs almost no energy. But after warping anything she gets out of breath, as if she has just performed a physical activity, the bigger the task, the more it taxes apon her. She cannot store things in her alternate dimensional plane. It is infinite, and it would almost impossible to find.

She has been in her alternate plane, and there is nothing to see. It is almost completely empty, except for the things that she has brought in there, which are few and far between. She only saw a tea-cup shard, and a gnawed pencil when she last went to look. Traveling through her dimension strengthens her ability to bring things there and transform them. But in order to do so, she needs to be in an almost completely comatose state and be under the supervision of someone who can get her out of her dimensional plane, as in, someone with a similar power.

If she were to make a rift in her alternate dimension and connect it to our own, it would begin to consume ours. It has an extreme vacuum power that pulls them inside and then suspends them in the matter-less place. She does not know this.

I'm sorry...I vaguely remember editing those comments out like a week ago...just shows how my memory works sweatdrop
Edit Numba 4
Gaia Name:Electric Kool-Aid
Name:Elaina ("Laina" to her family) Cybil Thanati
Age:20
Alignment:Team Tomorrow
Special Abilities: Elaina's mutation allows her to perform painless dislocation of almost all of her joints. She is limited by her muscular structure, organ location, and joint location. For instance, she can't compress her rib cage (there are no joints in the sides and it'd endanger her heart), and if she dislocates her elbow, dislocating her fingers and wrists would be much more difficult because it is harder to control the motion of dislocated joints. However is she starts with her fingers and works up the arm it is possible.

She is at home in a t-shirt and jeans, and frequently wears some of her brother Samuel's old clothing, even though some of it has holes in places.
Sexual Orientation:Heterosexual
Personality:Elaina is incredibly optimistic and hopeful, always expecting the best even in bad situations. She seeks to find the best in people, and rarely expects that someone would try to do her harm. She feels sad when she sees novas abusing their abilities, and sees herself as an adapted human rather than a separate species.
History:Growing up with Sam had been interesting to say the least. He always was much more assertive than his younger sister and his fits were explosive in nature. Elaina tried hard to keep up with him and keep him happy for fear of his skeletal eruptions. While not completely understanding what was happening she tried to do her best to help him, and stay out of his way at the same time.

Elaina's mutation came to fruition when she was fifteen, five years after Samuel's first displays.

Memories flooded to her from when she was ten: hearing Sam scream, she remembered blood, and sirens, and later scars.

Her education at Galvan helped her control her ability better, although her ability rarely got out of hand and was simply occasionally a nuisance (in that occasionally after shaking someone's hand she'd have to realign a few fingers). She trained to develop certain muscle areas to make it easier for certain joints to dislocate while making it more difficult for others to, as it would be inconvenient to have your hip dislodge every time she tried to dislocate her knee.

On Fridays, (since she has only one morning class) and weekends Elaina works as a waitress at her father's restaurant, but he is very good about having back ups in case she has to run out on a Team Tomorrow assignment. She is in her sophomore year of college, which she takes on a part-time basis. She occasionally misses class to do work for TT but she does her best to make it up and the teachers are very understanding.

Do you mind Laina? It won't be for long, I called Nick so he'll be here in 20 minutes."

"NICK?! You called Nick?! He's not very good..." she shouted back moving through the swinging doors to the kitchen, simultaneously remembering the time he'd dropped a dozen eggs by tripping on his own feet. She winced.

"I know Laina! That's why he'll be waiting unless you have to run out." her father shouted back over the hum of the stove that she'd just turned on. (my favorite movie is Easy Rider...i think)
I've decided that she should have to push bones back in because (scientifically) the only way I could have her not have to would be to have opposing muscle groups that are opposite, and something tells me in the end with so many muscles in strange places she wouldn't look human at all...and it'll be interesting to have a strong limit and it kind of contributes to her personality too.

Is the college, TT, and work situation fixed or do you have suggestions? cause I'm fully open to them...

Name: Angolina Chupaflor Castillo (Angel)
Age: 22
Alignment: Team Tomorrow
Special Abilities: Control and of glass or anything crystalline. Glass or crystal under her control can become as hard as metal or as soft as putty. She can manipulate glass into any shape she desires without heating it. Her hands can also withstand intense heat without protection.
Codename: Diadem
Costume: Keeping it simple with a stretchy black short sleeved shirt and black cargo pants. In the side pockets she keeps large pieces of crystal for use in the field. Her shoes are also black and comfortable, very good for sneaking about. When necessary, she is able to create crystal gauntlets for getting rid of obstcles or slicing into something (or someone).
Appearance: Angel is half african american, half hispanic ( her middle name means "hummingbird" in Spanish). Her skin is dark with coppery undertones. Her hair is dark, straight and quite thick, falling just past her shoulders. Her eyes are almond shaped and slightly slanted upward at the outside corners and are very dark brown. Her nose isn't as broad as her mother's nor as slim as her fathers, falling somehwere in the middle. She has full lips like her mother, though. She has an athletic build, getting her height from her mother's side of the family.
Sexual Orientation: As far as she is concerned she doesn't need guys and is a bit of a tom boy when it comes to them. Men are buddies, not love interests...neither are women. That's not to say that she'll never have a crush, she just hasn't met the right guy yet or acknowledged any kind of emotion regarding men she does know.
Personality: Angel likes being busy, she likes being productive and she likes helping people. When she has nothing to do she gets antsy, irritable, snappish, and starts pacing like some kind of caged beast. The same reaction occurs when she feels useless or hasn't eaten. For the most part she works with people well if they don't rub her the wrong way, would rather not lead any kind of operation but isn't afraid to speak up or give suggestions to whoever is charge.
History: Angel was born to her father, Lorenzo Castillo and her mother Tanzania Wright. Her father is of Hispanic and Italian decent who was disgraced and cast out of his family after testifying against his cousin who murdered his aunt, Lorenzo's mother. He fled Mexico, changing his identity with the help of the police to Italy where he studied glass blowing and sculpturing in Moreno. After becoming a Master he moved to America. There he met his wife; a spirited African American woman who had just finished nursing school and had started working in the local hospital. Lorenzo’s glass sculptor business did very well and Tanzania was doing pretty good herself as well as money went and they were able to live comfortably in a middle class neighborhood. Angel grew up in a relatively safe environment, went to a public school but with her father’s history which he kept secret from his daughter but not his wife, he taught Angel how to defend herself, including a few dirty tricks just in case.

Angel became interested in her father’s shop when she was five years of age and when she had finished her homework and chores she’d hang out in her father’s shop. She made this a regular practice for a year before he started giving her little tasks to do. As she got older, his tasks grew more complicated. He was patient and thrilled that his daughter was showing an interest in his occupation already dreaming of handing it over to her once he was done. At twelve years of age with much begging and goading, Lorenzo finally taught his daughter how to blow glass. He was amazed at how quickly she picked it up and soon grew confident with leaving her to blow her own globes by herself but always with him in the shop. A year later, in order to impress her father, Angel attempted to blow a globe while her father was away. Something went wrong, however and white hot globe exploded, sending scalding hot shards of glass at Angel’s face. She flinched away, throwing her hands to her face instinctively. When nothing struck her face she was amazed to find the glowing shards of glass floating in the air inches from her face.

With this new discovery, Angel began experimenting with her new talent in private. Her father found out two years later when she was fifteen. He walked in on her when she was manipulating a glowing globe of glass into the shape of a horse without even touching it. Lorenzo was more shocked by this discovery than his wife, whose grandmother was known for having some uncanny ability though no one in the family was able to catch her in the act. At sixteen years of age, Angel gained a pretty firm grasp of her powers. Her father discovered Galvan by accident while at the doctor’s office. He brought it home to his wife and they debated and discussed for three days before they finally decided to let her go. Angel enjoys a close relationship with both her parents and even though her father’s employment was of great interest of her, her mother always found time talk to her about her job. It started out with them sharing their day with one another but when Angel started asking questions, her mother began speaking in more detail, and even made her medical books available for Angel to go over at her leisure. Her mother also taught her how to shop smart, gave Angel her fashion sense, taught her how to cook, keep the books, house keep, and to be confident in everything she did.

A graduate of Galvan, Angel went into the medical field like her mother, becoming a medical nurse when all the chaos started happening. She kept her powers hidden and managed to stay under the radar, her parents were very scared for her and many times implored her to come home until things blew over. Angel refused but visited her parents often to assure them she was alright, no one suspected her. When the Devia Corp. and Team Tomorrow formed, she was tempted to join Devia but in the end joined Team Tomorrow after talking with her parents. Joining Team Tomorrow meant that she had to quit her job at the hospital which she did reluctantly. Once in awhile, to alleviate stress, she goes to her father’s shop to blow glass.
Sample Roleplay: Nothing was more pleasant then having the alarm blare heavy metal into your ear in the morning. Angel nearly jumped a mile high when some artist she wasn't familiar with screamed at her through her radio alarmclock. She slammed her hand down on the offending device and flopped back against her pillow with an irritated growling sigh. Ah, silence, what a lovely sound. She sighed a bit easier and smiled as she settled back for sleep. She was just on the brink of slumber about to take the plunge when that music started again. With a snarl, Angel sat up, pulled the cord from the wall and sent the alarm clock sailing across the room. She ignored the fatal crash as it slammed into the opposite wall as she furiously settled for sleep once again, muttering about people who couldn't sing getting contracts anyway.

Sleep finally claimed her only to relinquish it's hold an hour later as she surfaced back into the waking world. She blinked at her window, she could see light filtering in through her blinds and she sighed. She wasn't going to get back to sleep now that her body had shoved her into wakefulness. She sat up again, this time slowly and stretched her arms over head and groaned. She grinned when her black and Russian Blue ball of fluff jumped onto her bed and mewled at her, "Boulder!" She scooped up her cat and scratched his belly, "Good morning! Are you hungry? I'm hungry too, shall we see what's in the kitchen?" She asked.

Boulder simply closed his eyes, flexing his claws and purred up at her.

Angel grinned and slipped out of bed with Boulder still in her arms. As she made her way out of her room and towards the kitchen, something warm and soft brushed her legs. She looked down to see Tank, her Bengal, "Good morning to you too, Tank! Where's Dash?"

As if to answer her question, tank trotted ahead of her to the kitchen. She'd named him Tank because he was so solidly built, like a mini tiger, his paws were huge. Dash was her youngest and fastest, he was currently sniffing around the food bowels and ran at her when she appeared, pawing at her legs.

"Patience is a virtue." She told him then set Boulder down and fed the three of them, "You're welcome." They ignored her and she rolled her eyes and then looked into her fridge, "Eggs and toast, perfect!"
