Imperio continued to nudge the mare's back with his muzzle; yet when she slid back down some, Imperio lost the determination to try to help her up. Thinking she was again injured in some way a few tears burst from his eyes. "Nuuuuu~ Don't die Kaehi! This is bad, bad, bad!" He whined in a childish tone.

The stallion circled around her in a quick trot before nudging her cheek with his muzzle. Imperio jumped and squeaked; startled when the mare began mumbling. "Kaehi!" He pressed his nose against hers and tried to listen to her words over his thumping heart in his chest.

"Oooh~ Please get up! This is all my fault!" The stallion quickly moved back around and lay beside her back; pushing his against hers to try to help support her and maybe help get her back elevated some so that she would be able to get her feet under her body. "Up, up, up!"

The mare was trying to get up; her body simply wasn't co-operating. She gave up on attempting to tell Imperio this, though... it was simply a waste of breath, and she needed all of that to succeed in getting to her hooves.

Keahi leaned on Imperio gratefully, thankful for the solid stallion strength at her back. She took a deep breath, and pushed with all her might. Using Imperio as a sort of cane, her legs managed to hold enough of her weight that she could rise a few inches. Her muscles wobbled- she locked her knees, determined not to go back down... and slowly, inch by inch, pressed upwards until she was (shakily) in a proper standing position.

Keahi slowly turned her neck and managed a grin in Imperio's general direction.

Imperio jumped as he matched Kaehi's grin. His mane flew past in disarray as he gave a kick of his back leg in happiness. "Yay, yay, yay~" he said, dancing with a little shake of his behind and a toss of his head. "Kaehi is BACK in ACTION," he said clearly, the volume of his voice fluctuating as he emphasized the words.

He trotted a wide circle around Kaehi, his grin never leaving his expression as he made sure Kaehi wasn't going to go PLOT anytime soon. He didn't want Kaehi to almost-die again because that would make Imperio very sad and a sad Imperio is... well... sad?

Satisfied that Kaehi wasn't going to collapse and suffer from a death-by-vindictive-tree-branch, he let out a shrill whistle, rearing onto his back legs. "Go, KAEHI!"

Keahi's smile widened, radiating from her very soul. She watched Imperio circle her, pleased that his movements did not make her stomach roll and her mind dizzy. A whisper of the muggy fog was still present in her mind, making his words seem fuzzy to her ears.

"Go?" Her eyes widened, taking on a moistened glimmer. Her eyebrows were perked towards the center of her forehead, her neck lowered as she peered up at Imperio with a sadened pout. "Why do I have to go?" ... She'd thought they were friends...

Imperio, overly excited about Kaehis recovering and therefore oblivious to Kaehi's sad pout, gave a shrill whistle again. "You should GO because the EVIL tree of DOOM may come back and haunt us therefore we should go and find something to inflict REVENGE upon said evil tree. Like, like, like~" he paused, a pensive look spreading over his face. He resisted chewing his bottom lip as he thought about where Kaehi (and of course, himself) should go next. First they had been in the valley and then in the evil forest of doom and then apple trees and now where?

"We should go to, we should go to~" he started, still in the midst of thinking but wanting to fill up the silence that drifted over the two. Imperio always hated it when it was quiet, which meant that if no one was talking, he would. "We should go look for the mystical, magical..." Imperio paused for effect, grinning all the while. "Candy Rock Mountain!" he finished in glee, preening himself at his marvelous idea. 'Genius,' he thought to himself with a proud grin, 'Kaehi's genius must be rubbing off on me. Yep, yep.'

Keahi had felt herself lean forwards as Imperio's words rushed out, the last trickles of fog leaving her brain and the coming tears banished by Imperio's enthusiasm. By the time he had finally gotten to the point, she was completely intent upon hearing what he had to say: her ears were perked forwards, her mouth had opened slightly, and her bright eyes were widened.

His unique answer did nothing to dispel her enthusiasm, but it did somewhat puzzle her.

"Candy rock mountain? What's..." No. If she asked what it was, then she would seem foolish, as obviously if Imperio knew about Candy Rock Mountain and seemed so pleased with himself for thinking of it then everyone who's anyone knew about Candy Rock Mountain. And she didn't want to seem foolish... because she wasn't... not really, anyway... at least, not normally. Although being hit over the head by a tree would certainly be one for the books... Where was she?

"Oh, wonderful! Let's go then!" She lifted her hoof, then sort of wiggled it around... North, South, East West, and back. "... Why don't you lead?"

He mentally jumped in glee, delighted that Keahi though his idea was wonderful. 'I am getting smarter. Smart must be contagious. Like a cold. Except colds are bad and being smart is good!' He smiled to himself, proud of his rapidly (or so he believed) reasoning skills.

So busy with his bout of self-congratulation, he almost missed Keahi's question. "Lead?" he said, perking up, his eyes shooting forward and his eye sparkling. "Yay, I get to lead! I normally don't get to lead since I'm not great at directions and memorizing stuff and normally I just follow someone around and hope that they take me to where I want but they usually don't so I just follow them anyway and hope they take me to somewhere that is fun." He paused, taking a deep breathe before he continued. "But Keahi is letting me lead," he finished, beaming at the mare.

"Lead, lead, lead," he said in a sing-song voice, starting to walk away from the apple tree and toward a bright patch of something in the distance as he bopped his head back and forth to his own little song. He shot a look over his shoulder to make sure that Keahi was close by and hadn't been attacked again in his moment(s) of distraction.

Satisfied that, yes, Keahi was conscious still, and that yes, the apple tree had not moved in a sneaky ninja strategy to ambush them, he continued, moving into a light trot, his hooves hitting the ground in time with his "lead, lead, lead" chant that he hummed.

Keahi watched as he began to trot, a glow of pleasure floating about her heart. He was so cute when he was pleased! Well, that was always... she'd never seen Imperio displeased... save for when he thought she hated him... but that didn't really count... after all, when one is true does that make the opposite automatically untrue, leaving no wriggle room in which each event can prove itself worthy or not without any influencing outside forces?

Imperio had gotten quite a ways away by now. Keahi jumped in surprise, then set off at a dead gallop after the retreating form of the stallion. She slowed to a trot as she neared, her hair tussled and sticking up in random places from her brief flight. She was moving at a dignified walk by the time she caught up with Imperio, her head held up loftily as though to say 'I didn't just freak out...'

She shook her mane back into place. "... How far away is it?" She peered at Imperio, waiting for her answer with a wide smile.

Imperio jumped at Keahi's voice, far too caught up in his song (which he now just composed the most catchy refrain for in his head) that he almost forgot where he was going and who he was with. Imperio was quite forgetful, after all, and the song just made him want to dance and sing and jump and put beads in his hair so when he moved they jingled. Though he had to admit, he thought about the last option there more often then just when he was mentally singing/dancing/etc.

"... How far away is what?" he asked, titling his head in confusion as he shifted to look at Keahi. He blinked, his face scrunched up as he tried to remember why they were walking. "... OH. Rock Candy Mountain? Or Candy Rock Mountain? Um~" he said, dancing a bit on his front hooves as he thought about the question.

"No idea," he finally said, his lips turning into a sweet, oblivious smile. "Actually, I don't really know where it is either. But I figured it'd be big and shiny and bright so I headed toward something that looked big and shiny and bright?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 25, 2007 8:30 pm

Keahi felt a flicker of amusement that was all mushed together with disappointment. So Candy Rock Mountain was only a figment of Imperio's (wild) imagination? It might be somewhere out there, but if Imperio hadn't really known where it was when he said it... then it could be not there...

Or did saying something existed cause that thing to suddenly poof into existence? Could the world manifest things of it's own accord? Change things? Alter the land? Make a Candy Rock Mountain appear out of thin air? ... No, it could not be so. If the land was always changing, then wouldn't the two-leggers have been unable to make those scribbles-on-bark they called Maps? Maybe it could change, it only took time? But then... what use would that be? By the time Candy Rock Mountain appeared, it might no longer be what Imperio and she were heading for.

If it was out there, they would find it! Keahi set her face in a determined stare, scanning the horizon for the first shiny thing she saw.

OW!

Sun. Better look at the ground...

"Hey, Imperio?..." Keahi paused for so long she might have forgotten that she had ever said his name in the first place. "... Should we ask someone for directions?"

"Hm?" Imperio said, ears shifting as he paused to stop and look at Keahi. He waited, the silence spreading as he waited and waited for Keahi to continued. After a few moments, he fought the urge to start talking. Talking when someone else was suppose to be talking was rude, rude, rude. Or so Uncle Orchu said and told Imperio over and over and over because he'd always just talk and talk even when someone else was talking. Or suppose to be talking. Imperio wasn't really sure, he remembered that there had been a cloud that was shaped as a flying llama in the sky during that lecture.

He jumped again at the mare's question, his musing (easily) distracting him from what was going on at hand/hoove. "Directions?" Imperio repeated, his voice scrunching up at the word. "Ask someone?"

He contemplated the notion of asking someone, his mind running a marathon as he thought up reasons why and why they shouldn't. "Directions, directions. Who do we ask for directions? Directions are good right, because if you ask direction then you get to where you want to be but Uncle Orion said that you should never ask directions. Never, never." he said, looking at Keahi distressed. "He said that stallions shouldn't ever, ever ask for direction because stallions have a thing against asking directions. That's what he said, yes, yes. But what does it mean to "have a thing"?"

"If I ask for direction does that not make me a stallion anymore?" he said suddenly, his front hooves rearing slightly at the revelation. "But I am a stallion, I am, I am. I know I am. I mean, I have to be a stallion right? But what if I was really a mare? No, no, I'm a stallion because I think that Keahi is pretty, right, right? Stallions like me think pretty mares like Keahi are pretty." He gasped suddenly, turning to Keahi with panicked eyes. "Not that Keahi's wouldn't be pretty had I not been a stallion, because even if I was a mare I'd think that Keahi was pretty. So, so, so-" Imperio stopped, his train of through ending abruptly, as he tilted his head to the side. "...What was I saying again?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 25, 2007 8:53 pm

Keahi couldn't resist letting out a sound somewhere between a laugh and a giggle at that, amused my Imperio's once-more spiraling speech. As soon as she was sure any attempt on her part to speak wouldn't be fumbled by further laughter, she spoke.

"To 'have a thing' can take on a variety of meanings. It can mean that you dislike something simply on principle or just because it is what it is, or that you like something just because it is what it is. It's pretty much unconditional anything... or it could be someone else's way of explaining why so-and-so thinks a certain way." Keahi shrugged...

The all-too-familiar blush appeared upon her face once more, and yet again it was hidden behind her ebony complexion. "W-well..." she stammered, trying to regain her mental balance. "... I don't believe asking for directions would make you a stallion no more... it's probably just a matter of pride." She took a deep breath. "... because something as simple as asking someone about something isn't enough to make your likes and dislikes change, right?"

She peered into the distance, giving thanks to whatever Gods existed that he hadn't seen her blush... but would he even have noticed?

"We were going to Rock Candy Mountain."

"Ohhh~" Imperio said, nodding his head as he listened to (hopefully) indicate understanding to Keahi's explanation. "So, so, if someone 'has a thing" for something that's bad? Or good? Or both? ... Wait, what? Good, bad, both? can it be both? But it sounds bad but is it? Because it can be bad does it mean it's always bad?" Imperio continued, his face scrunching up in a mix of confusion and distress. "But it must feel sad if it meant something bad. I'd feel said if I was a word that meant something bad." Imperio vageuly wondered why talking to Keahi about the emotional tumult of words was familiar.

Imperio tilted his head at he listened again to Keahi, noting that she was acting kind of funny. 'Maybe Keahi is sick,' he thought with chagrin. 'Oh no, maybe she got hurt by the mare-eating tree and now is sick, sick, sick. She looked a little hot, like her face got kinda red, maybe she has a fever. Oh no, oh no, what if Keahi dies? I mean, I thought she died earlier but she didn't but that doesn't mean that she still can't die. Dying is bad, bad, bad, bad,' he thought rapidly, his pondering going from a mild worried tone to that of a near frantic scramble.

He took a few steps closer to Keahi, her words only half-reaching him as he worried about the mare's well-being. 'When someone gets saick they feel hot right? Like the last time Demon got all snuffly and red and grumpy because he stayed out too late in the stay. Yep, yep.' He dug through his mind, trying to remember what the two-legged things did when Demon was sick. 'Um, um,' he thought, 'they check his head. Yep, that was it. And they said something about it being warm. So maybe I should check is Keahi's head it warm and if it is it means that she's SICK. Which is bad. Yes, bad, bad.'

He leaned forward, already only inches away from the mare, who was just finishing speaking. He brought his nose closer to her, brushing the side of his head against her forhead to check her temperature. His eyebrow furrowed together as he thought, unable to detect a drastic change in her body temperature. 'Maybe her mane is in the way,' he thought, pulling back a bit. He nipped at a srand of her mane before blowing on it to force it behing her ear, so he could make sure that Keahi wasn't dying and sick and stuff. He would be a good stallion (because, yes, yes, Keahi has said that he was a stallion so maybe after he made sure that Keahi was okay he could be the still-stallion he was and ask for directions, yes, yes) and make sure his newest friend was well and happy and he wasn't going to let some hair get into his way, he thought, a determined look crossing his face as he leaned in again, concentrating on the mare's temperature.

Had Imperio possessed a thermometer, he would have detected a rise in her body temperature... but not from a fever.

Her mind was still sorting out the important bits from the avalanche of words when he began to lean forwards. She shifted her weight nervously, wondering if she was blocking his view of some important path.

Then he got closer.

And closer.

And closer...

Wow. That's close.

Keahi held perfectly still as he brushed the side of his head against her forehead, barely even breathing when he brushed her mane aside. What, precisely, might Imperio be doing? Had she not managed to get all the leaves out of her mane? Was a stick stuck to her ear? Did... He had pretty eyes. Nice and warm...

... the thoughts cleared from Keahi's head, almost as though embarrassed of their own existence. She cleared her throat. "Imperio... what're you doing?"

Imperio furrowed his eyes in concentration, focusing on checking Keahi's temperature. She didn't feel any hotter than normal, but she was still acting kind of funny. Still worried, he pulled back a few inches, still unmindfully close to the mare. He tilted his head at her question.

"I'm checking your temperature of course," he said, his lips turned down into a worried frown. "Keahi might be sick, so I wanted to make sure that you were alright but I didn't know how but then I remembered that people feel hot when they are sick so I wanted to make sure that Keahi didn't feel hot but I can't do that unless I can touch you, right, right? So of course, I had to get closer since I can't check temperatures from far away because I'm not a magical flying ninja. But then your hair got got in the way so I had to make it get out of the way but it didn't want to get out of the way so then I had to force it out of the way. I feel kinda bad that I had to force it away, ya know, but it was in the way of making sure that Keahi was feeling okay and I didn't want to argue with your hair because hair can be very stubborn, you know, when you try to reason with it." Imperio nodded at the last sentence, affirming that he did indeed argue with his hair and quite often lost the argument.

"But I still can't tell if Keahi is alright, because you don't feel any different than you should but I can't really tell." His eyes drooped a bit again, as his worry for the mare caught up with him. He ducked his head a little, looking up at the mare with mournful, puppy eyes, his maning dropping down one side of his neck and away from his face "Keahi is feeling okay, she is, she is, right?"
