I don't think this episode was too bad...(which is high praise from me, for an s3 ep) I also thought it would be like the Satan Pit story, but it was very different. I loved how the Doctor said he was scared, that made him seem like a much more 'human' or 'humanoid' at least, character. Blue suit, plot holes, living suns and annoying people aside, this was a good episode.

I also agree that it was cool to have the Doctor say he was scared, and it was a bit of a switch that it was the Doctor in trouble, and Martha had to keep cool to save him. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I've never seen Impossible Planet so I can't really say anything about them being the same, but to me it was a awesome episode and I loved every minute of it.

Yesh, I thought it was a bit odd that the thingo went from killing to body switching but eh, that bit was easy enough to overlook.
Thing is, when she jumps out with her husband, you'd be incinerated in a split second, seriously, they're about 1 minute from the sun (which has pretty damn MASSIVE gravitational acceleration [awesome] but even so that is WAY close to the sun because it's also very very big) and ah... yeah so pretty much as soon as that door opens she would have been *FRIED TO A CRISP* burning_eyes
The Doctor went outside as well... well I guess so long as he was facing away from the sun and had a pretty high tech suit on he'd be ok. I mean its obviously fairly advanced technology... having a ship able to get that close to the sun and escape again and such, myes, cool technology *grins crazily* for my birthday, kay?!
It had great tension, because of the whole time thing, and Tennant was very good in it also... so yes, overall I really quite liked this episode.
One more thing though, in the Lazerus experiment thingo discussion thread I mentioned a key, and... I SAW IT AGAIN in this epi so I took a screenshot... and it's a NORMAL KEY scream Well I thought I took a screenshot but the smegging thing seems to have disappeared so that scratches that idea. But seriously. Key. Normal. TARDIS key. Normal looking key. What gives with that.

Actually another thing before I forget, has anyone seen the movie 'Sunshine' ? it was... well okay until they had that burnt crispy guy killing everyone, that just made it look like a cheap horror, but in the beginning especially, it was AMAZING, just because of the CGI... it was beautiful, an amazing ship, stunning shots of the sun... It would have been SO AWESOME if they had done it more like that. But yes, limited budget, I know... still... I'd recommend that movie just to see some of the awesome piccies of space and the sun 3nodding

katybutterfly I think that was the scariest episode since Doctor Who came back in 2005! I was shaking by the end of it! Even my Dad said it was a good one, and he's usually even more critical than Jettrick! Amazing performances from all involved (and David managed to scare me for the THIRD time! Once in Secret Smile, once in Harry Potter and now this). Well worth the fortnight's wait, in my opinion. Favourite quote: Various: Burn with me!Oh, it was amazing! I think it was scarier to me than Empty Child (and that one was quite chilling!) eek When the Doctor was about to get frozen to freeze the thing out of him, and he started saying that "there's this trick I have, when I'm about to die.." I had my hand over my mouth in shock and got a bit teary..I was afraid that he would regenerate in there.. (and I'd seen stuff saying otherwise beforehand!!) Brilliant, amazing performances from everyone, especially David! I was stunned at how perfectly he showed all those emotions, his reactions to everything...and to hear the Doctor say he was scared.....my dad agrees that we've never heard him say that before...I was so amazed at how well everyone nailed their roles!
This episode is by far my favorite of the season as of now, and for a new author to write that.. the script and dialogue was fantastic! It's very edge-of-your-seat in the way of plot. And of course, we've got Mr. Saxon references looming over the whole thing to make you continually thinking about what will come next episode.

katybutterfly Just occurred to me... Once again, the Doctor is wearing his blue suit. Once again, he nearly dies. I definitely see a pattern developing!! lol eek Well I'll say one thing: he better not be wearing it for the season finale!!!!!! gonk gonk (heh, katy, keep track of that for each episode and we'll see. xd )

Travis III "Burn with me" isn't as good a catchphrase as "He is awake...", but overall a supurb episode: well directed and with some great acting (it's nice to know David Tennant can actually do something other than just be Tom Baker on helium week in, week out.) Tom Baker... on helium?! rofl rofl rofl That made me laugh...SO hard....
And I'm going to answer a few other questions: 1. I was going to get to the Cyclops glasses reference 'cause that's immediately what I thought of. The Doctor had his eyes shut nearly the whole time, otherwise he'd be wearing a helmet to see through too. 2. The first posessed guy wasn't forgotten, he was frozen by that huge vent thing right above him before he was about to kill the captain of the ship. 3. Yeah, it was reminiscent of Impossible Planet/Satan Pit (going towards dangerous star, TARDIS is inaccessable until the end, being possessed) but at least it wasn't on Earth again!!! 4. Martha had to have a reason to call home, otherwise they couldn't have done the terribly important Mr. Saxon foreshadowing scene. And the Doctor's reference to one of Elvis' songs was incredibly funny. (it was something to do with sunshine, I think) 5. The death at the end was not unnecessary. Think of it as Rose having to send Toby into the black hole in Satan Pit... it's either that or everyone else on the ship dies. Too many deaths already..and it was the captain's husband. 6. Oh, and I heard one of the crew saying that they had enough fuel to start up the engines 'cause they got that extra part of the ship working. 7. ...and I guess nearly dying with some guy in the future that you know you'll never see again has that affect on you.

I liked this episode alot, I don't think it was scarier than the empty child but it was still great. It would have been nice to see the doctor kill someone, but then I suppose we'd have to see him all emo about it in future episodes so its for the best.

If you don't like an episode...don't watch it it's that simple people.
I do think it's nice to see the doctor a little vulnerable. However this episode was rather week and unrememberable. The characters were picked off so quick they had no real depth except for the one Martha was in the pod with and the captain. It was a tad to much like Satan pit/impossible plant episodes. It seemed like this episode was just like a thrown away idea from when they were writing the Satan pit/impossible plant episodes that they couldn't stand to not use.
The episode went rather quick for me really it made no impression on me what so ever. The only truly interesting part was when Martha would call her mother and when her mother turned over her cell phone at the end to Harold Saxon's employees.
Honestly this had potential to be a good episode but it was so much like Satan pit/impossible plant and it genrally wasn't a good episode. I like the idea for a living plant possessing people because it was being desecrated and mined but this episode went in the wrong direction.
