In my eyes, a crack pairing is any pairing where people just put two characters together because they 'look good' or something similar, with no real reason or facts behind it. Case in point: Zutara.

Throughout the entire story, Zuko and Katara (Actually, Zuko/the Fire Nation and anyone from the Aang-tachi/any other nation) have more or less hated each other. To have Zuko and Katara get together, both would have to do a complete romantic 180 and, apparently, forget everything that has happened to them in the past.

You're kidding, right? Between the beginning of season one to the end of it, she went from not knowing how to use her powers at all to suddenly (*coughmagicallycough*) becoming Master Pakku's best and brightest. She's the main girl, though, so of course she would have powers superior to all the others (which is another Sue-ish quality in itself). She also has about three or four guys after her (the main character included).

Hon, she was forced to tolerate Zuko. Yes, I did see the season finale. Being trapped against her will in a cave with him would be 'forced', y'know. And have you seen, like, every other episode of the show? Remember the cave of two lovers episode? Y'know, the one where Aang made some stupid comment about kissing her, and she got all offended and huffy? She wanted to kiss him and got angry when he got nervous. There are plenty more examples about the obvious affection of BOTH ends, but, again, I'm too tired and lazy to write them out. It's, like, 1:45 in the morning here.

I'm fully aware of Katara's capacity to forgive. She very well could forgive Zuko, but that doesn't mean she's going to have a relationship with him.

Now, while 12-year-old boys in our time are immature, nose-picking 7th graders, 12-year-old boys in the Avatar-verse are little mini-men who are already preparing for war, or already a part of it. Aang is very mature for his age. Sure he makes mistakes, but he is a child, and a mistake here and there doesn't constitute him as being immature. Katara makes a crap-load of mistakes too, and - though I think she's immature anyway - it isn't her mistakes that make her that way.

You're write about Katara and Zuko being on the same level of maturity - both are immature! He's hot blooded and moody and she gets angry when things don't work out perfectly. If Zuko was in one of his "I'm a super angst boy" moods, Katara would probably try to console him, but only make things worse (This is if they were together). I mean, she'd certainly mean well. She'd probably go and make some one liner that she thinks is funny, end up offending him, and they'd get into a fight. Zuko needs someone who can deal with his hot temper without shouting at him. Trying to push Zuko into her way of thinking (Katara does like to do that to people) would only cause him to push back.

He needs someone more mature, who can take all his tantrums and wait until the storm dies down, then come in with the good advice. Actually, if we could get a girl with Iroh's relaxed temperment and playful, feminine flair of her own, it would do Zuko a world of good. Because, we cannot deny it, Zuko needs a woman. Katara, however, is not the woman he needs.

Katara and Aang already have an established relationship. They know each other, are friends, and care deeply for each other. I don't think Katara would be stupid enough to throw all of that away for someone she doesn't even really know or like.

yeah, that too. and i think its because they see whats on the surface, and thats the first pairing they found so they want to hold onto that. *shrugs* who knows.
