Miley had opened his mouth to say something about the possibility, or lack thereof, of him staying with her at the inn, when the other woman at the counter spoke up and drew attention away from him. If he followed the lady to the inn, someone would undoubtedly see him there and he'd be caught before he even left. His mind raced through a few possible stories. Then he realized the second woman was addressing him now.

Miley fumbled for words for a moment. "Um, yes ma'am." He wished Hock would come back so that they could finish this. Any minute now someone who knew him might wander in and ask what was going on...

Meanwhile, Carilee glanced over at Colby. "There's a woman a few towns westward of here, near where I live. She prefers to be paid rather dearly for her efforts though, alas." Carilee didn't have much else she particularly wanted to spend her pocket money on, though. Besides, she only went to lessons when she had enough questions collected from her own studies for the time spent to really be worth it. She needed to save some money for supplies, after all.

Jarrick nodded his thanks to Colby for asking the question on the tip of his tongue. He figured that the price couldn’t be that bad, though his idea of expensive likely differed from Carilee’s. Then again, he wasn’t quite convinced that it was worth journeying to see a teacher he didn’t even know to take lessons in an art he didn’t know anything about. Plus, it was just kind of expected that he’d stay for at least some time to watch out for his father. Most important though, was the fact that he’d have no idea what the hell he’d be getting himself into and if he’d even want to when he did. As he spoke, an older lady had joined the kid and the lady with the sword in conversation, while a boy who seemed to have just entered headed into the corner.
“Just how long do you think it’ll be until you make another trip to this teacher of yours then?” Jarrick asked, focusing again on the two next to him, “That is, assuming that you still do that at this point.”
It was really too bad that somebody in town such as Carilee wasn’t able to teach at this point. At that thought he added, “Just where are the two of you from anyway? I don’t think I remember either of you.”

"Near Nariz. It's a couple days travel west of here." Carilee waved her hand absently towards the front of the store, which happened to be a generally western direction. "I'll probably visit her sometime after we get back. Depends on whether or not I can get the proper supplies for it, really." Substituting supplies that weren't quite what a summoning called for, after all, risked the health of all involved.

And where was that shopkeeper? At least if he'd been gone this long he had probably actually looked, Carilee thought to herself.

Noru raised an eyebrow at Miley's reaction when she asked if he needed a place to stay. He seemed to hesitate before saying anything, and that definately raised Noru's suspicions. She laughed at his response to the woman's comment.

"Well then," she stated. "I guess I better hire a bard to come along with us to sing of all your great glories. How's that? Might make it easier for you." She laughed lightly, but stopped after she recalled her impatience with the shopkeeper.

No matter how well-stocked or well-kept the store, she did not enjoy being kept waiting. She understood that the item the girl had asked for was . . . difficult to find. But, well, she wanted to get on her way. Now. This was where her impatience tended to get the better of her. Without meaning to, she heard the other girl's comment. Nariz. Silently, Noru thought of a good place to move on to. She had planned on moving west anyhows, seeing as she had just breifly come from the east.

She turned around to face the woman. "Sorry for interrupting, but . . . whil e we're all stuck her waiting for Hock, do you mind telling me how I could possibly get to Nariz? I took the eastern route into the village just breifly, so moving west is a little new for me."

Li heard Noru's request for directions to Nariz. He mustered the courage to pip in, "You could come with me and my dad. We need to go there next and sell some things." Li was silently cursing himself in his head for drawing attention. He didn't like being at the center for even a moment. Plus, he tried but couldn't get out of the shop. It's all he could do to keep himself busy. "And, um, why can't I open the door now?"

Not that anyone was prone to notice at that moment, but the door opened to reveal a darkhaired woman and the shadow of someone else behind her.

Vivian could feel the magic almost quivering along her blade. It was time. She collected herself briefly, feeling the power and making sure everything was arranged correctly. Then, in a soundless but forceful blast, she let it richochet throughout the room. Hello, my humans.

"Well--" Carilee began, and stopped as a wave of magic pulsed through her. What in the name of... She could feel all of the magical defenses she had constructed over the last few years being bypassed like they didn't even exist. Whatever the magic was, it latched on to her being with the magical equivalent of a death grip. At least she wasn't dead yet, Carilee mused as she slowly took stock of the world around her. And the disembodied being seemed to be on the conversational side.

Miley, meanwhile, was wondering what had just happened. For no apparent reason everyone else in the room had suddenly moved all at once... Magic? His eyes darted to the door, wondering if it was time to run.

Hearing Li's comment, she was about to turn around. She wouldn't mind traveling with someone. Not to mention that she could pay them for showing her the way by acting as a somewhat bodyguard. Opening her mouth, Noru was about to reply to him and answer his question when a sudden jolt threw her off balance.

A shiver passed through her and it was as if electrical currents were running along her arms. The hair on the back of her neck rose and she tried to reach instinctively for her blade. However, this was one case where a sword would do her no good. She forced her hand down, pushing down the prickly feeling of having such a strong current of magic thrust through her very being.

Uncertain as to what the source of the magic was, Noru glanced over at Miley. His eyes darted to the door and she could tell that he was considering running. Not wanting to keep the boy under any considerable danger, Noru ordered, through clenched teeth," Miley, get out. Try the door." The magic might have interfered with Hock's magical securities, and if so, Noru wanted Miley out of the way. "If the door doesn't work, lay low."

Li, having the least magical resistance, was effected most. His legs gave out and he dropped to his hands and knees. He was breathing heavily and his eyes fluttered for a moment. He gritted his teeth and pushed himself up, using the counter to help him. When he was standing, he had trouble keeping himself up. "Wha, what was that?" Li mumbled and his arm gave for a moment, but he caught himself at the last second. "What is this? Why did that happen?" "Uh, hu... Uh, hu..." He was breathing heavier.

Keldan, about to sing a wonderful little ditty about the new (albeit small) hero-to-be, was rudely interrupted by a voice. A magical voice.

Keldan blinked a few times, quite suprised. It wasn't too often she was around spellcasters, but usually they tended to put on a bit more show before casting something that... forceful. And judging form the various reactions of those in the store, it seemed apparent to Keldan that they had no clue who cast that spell either.

"Deary me," the bard thought. While she was no magical expert, she could still definently feel the magical presense. That called them 'my humans.' That didn't bode well at all.

"But who is this spellcaster?" Keldan thought. And therefore, she initiated conversation with the air.

"Hello there, mysterious person," she said aloud. Hopefully the voice would take the lead and start explaining so Keldan wouldn't have to ask directly. Or at the very least, the spellcaster wouldn't try to destroy them all. Keldan would rather not have that happen.

Miley scuttled away, keeping low as he ducked around the shelves. He didn't know what was going on, but if the lady told him to go, he was going. His instincts were yelling the same thing at him anyway.

"Who is it indeed," Carilee mumbled, mostly to herself. Though it probably had little to do with her question, the voice chose that moment to introduce itself.

I see one of you's polite at least. Vivian paused before continuing, figuring she ought to make her introduction rather grand, or at least as grand as the situation permitted. I am the Sword of A Thousand Truths, she began, grandly. But you may call me Vivian, considering that we're going to be spending quite a bit of time together in these coming weeks.

Miley was at the shop's entrance now, and he could hear one of the girls talking to no one in particular. The boy gingerly pushed on the door, but it didn't budge even a fingernail's width. Well. He shivered nervously.

Noru frowned and gripped the hilt of her sword tightly. It was a small area, and she would not be able to weild such a large blade without breaking or hurting something or someone. The voice in her head and the jolt that had traveled through her body signified a magical presence. Noru did not like magic, no not at all. If anything, it was the one area of expertise that she disliked. Even despite the fact that her father had tried his best to teach her.

She relied on brute strength. And intellect to make her way through the world. Magic was something that she wanted almost nothing to do with. Yet . . . she was not against dealing with it when necessary. Not all forms of magic were trouble for her . . . but still . . .

Listening to the other girl in the store mutter to the voice and the woman who had spoken to her address the voice full on. Noru still stood tensely. Hearing the voice's snide comment again, Noru shook her head. "Polite? Well, she's certainly more polite than you are." Listening to it's later comments, Noru frowned. "Spending time together? You must be mistaken . . . " Saying this, she turned around to see where Miley had gone. The door was still locked, but she hoped that he would be able to stay low if trouble ensued.

Keldan listened to the magical voice speak, and quickly organized her thoughts. Quite a few were put into the 'Not Important Right Now' folder (such as how the magical communication made her nose itch a bit). The mention of weeks being spent together was mentally filed as 'Important To Remember Soon,' but a different statement got the coveted position of 'Hold On- What Was That?'

"You're- You're a sword?!?" Keldan asked, looking very puzzled. Oh yes, she had heard of magical swords before. Very nice things, good for the heroic prince type looking to save a princess or two. They were not snarky. They talked only when dispensing wisdom. They talked to People of Importance. And they were not named Vivian (a fact filed under 'No, It Couldn't Be, Could it?').

At least Keldan didn't seem to be the only one hearing the voice, noting the reaction of the swordswoman. "So that way they can't say I'm crazy. Well, more crazy than they say I am now," she thought, and promptly filed under 'Babble.'

Jarrick listened to Carilee’s vague directions, absently glancing in the direction she pointed. He had heard of Nariz of course, but had never actually been himself as he was usually to busy to go much farther than the next town over for the occasional special order. Finding the town wasn’t exactly his main concern though; it was the idea of talking one on one with this teacher that bothered Jarrick.

Just before he was about to ask if he could tag along with Carilee the next time she went herself, he was momentarily overcome by a feeling unlike any he had encountered before, that left him slightly panicked and caused him to put his hand onto Hock's hard wooden counter for fear of any physical effects. While not exactly painful, Jarrick was more than a little relieved when it began to subside, even if it did linger to a degree. With the feeling came a voice, causing him to look over at Carilee as it could only have been magic. He quickly ruled out the possibility that she had been the one speaking when he saw that she was hardly composed herself. In fact, as he saw upon looking around the store; a number of people in the room seemed to be flustered.

He took his hand off the counter and opened his mouth to ask someone what had just happened when the same feeling washed over him again, though it wasn’t quite as spectacular as the first time when he'd had no idea of what to suspect. Hearing the voice’s superfluous introduction, Jarrick rolled his eyes a bit. Surely no sword could’ve caused what had just happened without someone controlling it, then again; he would’ve denied the possibility of anyone making him hear anything in his head a few moments ago so the idea might not have been that far fetched.

Of course I'm a sword. What else would the Sword of A Thousand Truths be? Vivian rather thought society must've deteriorated a bit while she was sleeping, if this was what things'd come to.

One of you needs to buy me, in fact, if we're going to get started any time soon here. I'm the one with the emeralds. Bottom shelf in the case underneath the counter, she added, glinting a bit to make sure they could see her. You could try stealing me if you'd prefer, but Hock'll be on our tails for ages if he sees you.

((Feel free to have one of your characters be aware of the name "Sword of A Thousand Truths" and its connection to the rumored prophecy.))

Colby’s entire body was tingling, and with each word The Sword of a Thousand Truths spoke, the prickling sensation pulsed harder. She kept silent and listened as the sword, Vivian, answered the questions of the other people in the room…along with telling them what was going to happen. I can’t go with her, I have to get home…He needs to get the sword, my sister will be in trouble if he doesn’t get it.
As Colby grew used to the sword’s talking, the tingling feeling began to subside, not completely, but much less than before. Listening to the sword, something clicked in the back of Colby’s mind Sword of a Thousand Truths seemed rather familiar…like she had heard of it before.
“You’re the sword from the prophecy aren’t you?” Colby asked uncertainly once she had finally found her voice. Even as she asked this, Colby felt the overwhelming desire to purchase the sword…but she had no money. Take it then a voice in the back of her head said. Colby shook her head, hoping to disperse the desire, stealing was wrong, and sure to get her in trouble.
