Yo, I'm Mumei! *shrugs* I read overdoses of manga and mythology, so when I found out that Saiyuki was based on a book of gathered Chinese myths, legends, and popular belief, I started to research on the Internet. Even though I know the overall story I wanna read the Journey to the West! But I ended up reading only one out of the three parts...the one where it explains Wu K'ung's part of the story; before the actual journey began. And it was the children's version! *pauses* I'd better go before I really start ranting... In fact, I don't even remember my original intention when I started typing.... sweatdrop

Axel the Bard 'lo, all! I'm a huge fan of Saiyuki, ever since I was introduced to it by an online friend. Now, I've seen discs 1-10 (own 1 and the first box, and 7 and the second box, rented the rest), I have the first two volumes of the manga, and an import Gaiden box set from ebay... which I can't (well, won't) watch until I finish Saiyuki sweatdrop Main reason I love Saiyuki so much is I'm a mythology addict, especially present-day adaptations like this. And, of course, as such, I love the culterural note sections biggrin I'm a mythology addict too^_^ I've read all of my sister's greek mythology books and I've bought two books with chinese and japanese myths. Everytime I got a Saiyuki dvd I would always read the cultural note section first hehe. ^_^

Heh, same here! I know loads of Norse and Greek mythological references by heart, but not so much asian (I once got a book on egyptian, but I never really got into it) so the cultural notes are completely new to me, which is great! Once I was watching the A!MG movie in Anime Club, and when the giant tree appeared, I was like, "I get it, 'cause Yggdrasil is the World Tree!" and everyone turned to stare at me funny XD I find it funny, though, how pretty much everyone in the party but Sanzo (even Hukuryu!) in the orignal Saiyuki legend started off "___ pisses off the gods. ___ is sentanced to death, but ____ (often but not always the Merciful Goddess) intervenes and suggests they instead be sent to earth to wait for Sanzo and help him." Puts a new perspective on Gaiden, don't it? :3

[Mumei] We're like a big barrel of mythology reading monkeys! blaugh *is not sure where that came from sweatdrop * LOL...It tends to come with the territory. There's lots of anime that uses tons of mythology. And not just asian mythology. Greek, Norse, European, etc etc.
