Quote:
Kichea lifted her face to the hazy savannah sun, a subtle smile gracing her features. She was enjoying a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the pride. Padding lightly across the pridelands, she knew she was far from her pride, and ina way, that made her slightly nervous, and a little on edge. She cast a sideways glance about her surroundings, and across the lake she could see the tall elephant grass that surrounded her home. She really was a long ways away...

Not far away the river grasses parted to let the King of the nearby pride slide through. He was hunting, having left Anya with the newest addition, Jalara. He had no qualms about hunting, of taking up what was classically a lioness's role. So far he had ventured upon nothing. He stopped, sinking low to the ground for a just in case. He stayed that way for a moment before a spicy odor floated to his nostrils.

Unawares of the presence of the other, she continued to walk silently along the waters edge, not minding the wet sand that was sticking to her paws. A soft breeze came her way, ruffeling her fur as she went.

Abruptly, she stopped. Something wasn't right. There was a strange sensation that she wasn't alone, though she didn't know from where it was coming. She peered over her shoulder, scanning the area, timidly, she called out, "Hello?"

He moved forward, following the intriguing scent before stopping. Akin peered through the grasses, catching what the black lioness said. Oh lordy...she was beautiful. Gray eyes trailed over the sleek form, lingering on the red leopard spots and dark gray flakes. Akintunde stepped out, announcing himself with a low rumble.

Startled, Kichea backed into the lake a little ways. Her ears went back against her skull and she seemed to shrink in size. It was a male. Her crimson eyes wandered to meet his, and she felt herself shiver. There was something about him that made her bold, for she righted herself and took a few steps foreward, announcing with a soft voice, "I am called Kichea... of Rackna's Pride, I mean you no harm."

Akintunde considered her for a moment. "Welcome to my Pride Lands." Just as Kichea righted herself, Akintunde sucked in a breath and changed his position, showing off his musculature and mane. Typical male. "I am Akintunde."

She smiled at him. "I thank you for the welcome..." She paused, considering the situation, "but I fear I do not know this area.... perhaps you would be willing to escort me?" True, she never had been in the area before, but she knew well enough that she could manage on her own. But then again, when would she ever see this lion again? What was the harm in a little flirting?

The gray eyes lit up. "I'd be pleased if I could." A chuckle floated through the air as he gestured to the river with one dinnerplate sized paw. "That is the river, as you have discovered already."

She smirked at him as he motioned. "Oh yes, the river is certainly an eye catcher, though...." Her voice lowered considerably, almost to the point of incoheriency, "So are you."

It was a good thing that the gray lion didn't catch what she said. He would have ruined his noble stature by squeaking and then stuttering. "I am currently hunting, if you don't mind doing so as I show you around."

Hunting? She was tempted to pounce him like a kit. Hunting was one of her favorite things to do. "If I may, I would enjoy assisting you." She was already anticipating the adrenaline rush that she received from the chase and the kill.

He smiled and turned on his back paws, looking over his shoulder. "Coming?" He almost purred, but stopped himself in time. He slid back into the grasses. Hunting would be more difficult with the both of them being darkly colored. The prey could see you coming more easily and it was harder to hide for the lay-in-wait techniques.

Kichea nodded, restraining the urge to rush up next to him, she kept her distance, following behind. She crouched low to the ground, her underside brushing the grass as she tried to hide herself amongst the greenery. "Where are we headed?" She said in a whisper so only Akin could hear her.

"There is a small hill not far away that the herds like to gather at." He didn't crouch just as low, but he kept his ears cocked and nose to the wind.

With a small smile and an acknowledging nod, Kichea slunk up next to him, preparing herself. She was suddenly aware of the desire to impress this mysterious lion. Would he find her intimidating? Or would he find her a challenge? Questions began to race through her mind and she felt herself beginning to get nervous as they approached the crest of the hill.

Akintunde did purr, a nice rumbling purr that he quickly put an end to as the smell of zebra floated to his nose. "Zebra..." He dropped down to his belly and slunk forward. He put his nose in the wind again, trying to catch the smell of any weaker members.

"I smell fear." She said softly, "Perhaps they are aware of our presence." She added for safe measure. Her claws dug into the dirt, awaiting responce from Akintunde.

He glanced around, trying to make out forms from beyond the elephant grass. "I don't think it's us, we're not close enough..." He drew in a large lungful of air, tasting the various scents. "I think it's a hyena..." He growled low in his chest.

Kichea supressed a growl. Hyenas were notorious scavengers and even occasionally bold enough to attack a lion for a kill. "Well then, shal we take them unawares?"

A small smile curled his thin lips. "Why not?"

Kichea smiled at the reply and lunged foreward, wasting no time in selecting a prime target on the outskirts of the herd. The chase was on, and she was planning on coming out on top.

Akintunde followed her, more intent on conserving his strength for the kill and the hyena's. He couldn't keep up with a lioness at full speed and had changed his hunting accordingly.

The Herd had begun to scatter, running in all directions; Kichea kept her crimson orbs focused on the one she had picked. She was gaining on the stallion, though he was putting up a decent fight, taking sharp turns as to throw her off, but only mementarily as she regained her footing and resumed the chase.

The dark lion veered off, taking a more circular route and cutting in front of the stallion, rearing up to swing a paw right into the stallions head.

Kichea leapt at the hind quarters, her claws finding the target as she clung to the beast, trying to bring it to the ground with her weight.

Dropping back down to all fours he lunged at the neck. Sinking his fangs into the pulsing jugular he twisted his head to the side. The stallion stumbled, braying loudly before it sunk to it's knees and then collapsed to it's side. The braying grew weaker and finally stopped as it's lifeblood bled out.

Kichea paused a second before retracting her claws from the animal. "Nicely done. " She said softly, for she was out of breath from the mad dash to catch the creature.

He kept his jaws locked on the zebra's neck till he was sure that it was dead. "Same to you." The male gulped air, licking the hot blood off his jaws. He kept an eye out for the speckled scavengers, still more then ready to give them a good run around.

She blushed and shruged off the comment. "It was nothing...."

After a moment the large male moved away from the dead zebra. He was mildly hungry but was more concerned about the hyena's then the food. Kichea could eat whatever she wanted, the beast was too large to drag back to his Pride.

"Is something wrong, Akin?" Kichea has expected him to take his place as dominant and take first feed. When he didn't, she had ssumed something was troubling him.

"No, go ahead and eat. I'm not that hungry, so take whatever parts you want."

She silently accepted, bowing her head to feed on the zebra's flesh while regaurding the male before her. He was strong and mysterious, yet kind... at least to her. She felt as though something inside her was stirring as she stayed in his presence.

The winds changed and Kichea stopped. Akin's previous prediction was right. They weren't alone. She raised her head to tell him, but something told her that he already knew.

Akintunde turned his head from side to side, catching the breeze and scanning the plain. It was mostly empty, but for a few wildebeast foolhardy enough to stick around. The lions had their kill, they wouldn't be after them, that was...until they scented the hyenas. They ran inland, loudly protesting the appearance of the scavangers.

Yellowed claws slid from their sheaths, scoring the earth as the male rose to all fours. "Leave us, you curs, you won't be getting anything until we're done." A chorus of cackling laughter floated on the wind, a few ugly faces poking out of the grass.

Kichea barred her teeth, looking as fierce as she could manage while secretly being terrified. "Dare you defy the King of the Savannah?" She challenged, hoping that she helped a little.

There was another round of laughter. One hyena, mangier then the rest, bounced out of the grass. The hyena stretched out his neck, sniffing the blood-filled air. Akin growled, the fur in his mane standing on end and making him look bigger. "I warn you...come closer and I will hurt you..."

A low growl eminated from Kichea as she stood her ground next to Akin, defending their pride as lions. Her ebony ears were pressed back against her skull as she stared defiantly at the hyenas. "Perhaps warnings do nothing for those who do not comprehend the power we possess?" Kichea asked mocking the intelligence of the lowly creatures.

The lone cur growled, hissing out something the Akintunde didn't understand. "Or..." Logic reigned supreme. "They don't understand us and-" The sentence was cut short as the hyena leapt forward. One dinnerplate paw hit the dog-like creature, sending it rolling.

Kicheas eyes narrowed. If they were willing to attack, she was willing to fight as long as Akintunde was. If one was going to be bold, perhaps the others would think they would try it as well. True, she was willing to go against them, but on the inside she was shaking. She had never been in a brawl before and wasnt even sure if she'd be any use to Akin, or if she'd be in the way.

The gray lion had a split second to recover before two attacked, one launched itself at him and the other attacked his companion. The was no hesitation before the large lion tackled the black lioness to the dirt, taking the hyena's claws and teeth. One pair dug into his shoulder, another set into his hindquarters. It was all a blur to him but his mind processed the small pack of hyena's running away, several sporting striped bums from his claws and teeth.

Kichea was shaking. She stalled in the moment, and Akin had been hurt. Hurt because.... "You protected me?" She asked softly as if she didn't quite comprehend what had happened.

You are a visitor to my lands...it is my duty...and I couldn't let you get hurt." If she got hurt he didn't know...what he would do? The thought of her being hurt made him angry and...he didn't dare put a name to that other emotion.

Kichea felt herself slump at his reply. Had she expected something more.... heartfelt? No-- that's upsurd. She made her way to where he stood. "Allow me to tend your wounds?" She asked, though she had no intention of letting him refuse her.

Akintunde had a feeling he wouldn't get away so easily. "I can't reach them anyways..."

Kichea raised an eyebrow at his reluctance. "Good, lay here... I'll be back shortly." She didn't wait to see if he would obey her request, but rather, she turned and trotted away, dissapearing into the grass.

She returned a few moments later, a large clump of something that did not look to appealing dangling from her jaws. She sat at Akin's back as she made to apply the remedy. "This may sting a little... " She said in warning as she pressed the compress against him.

The large male sighed and laid down. The time was spent keeping an eye out for the hyenas. When she returned he opted to stay quiet and only hissed when the plant was pressed against his wounds.

"It may not take affect for a few hours, so you'll have to be fairly gentle with yourself untill then..." She said, repeating the words that her mother had told her when she had fallen out of a tree as a kit. Her eyes were kind as she raised her gaze to meet his. "Thank you." She added softly, a genuine sincerity behind her words.

"It was no problem." With a small blush he reached back and rubbed his muzzle against her cheek.

If her fur would have allowed it, she would have been as red as the leopard spots that dappled her legs. She wasn't quite sure how to react, as was seeming to be quite frequent around this male. A small smile broke out as she realized that even that small token of affection had left her heart racing.

Akin looked away, embarrassed by his action. "Were...were you done eating?"

"Oh...erm. Yes. I've... lost my appetite with all the commotion..." She said honestly. She couldn't even think about eating when her mind was trying to process what was going on. What was this giddy... nervous feeling in her stomach?

He was still somewhat hungry. "Would it be ok...if I...?" He gestured towards the meat.

"Oh! Yes, go right ahead. You needn't ask me for permission."

Akin grabbed a few mouthfuls of meat, chewing methodically. "Will you be going back to your Pride soon?" He was reluctant to let her go, he liked her company.

Her pride? She shuddered to think what Rackna would say. When Karver had come to take Pastel, he hadn't acted so kindly toward him. What would Rackna say if he knew Kichea was friendly with a male outside his reign? "I'm... not sure." Yes, Rackna was kind to her, but he was still her King. Being in Akin's company was somewhat like treason. "If i do... I may never see you again."

"I can...escort you back...if you like..."

"I.... would like that very much." Kichea replied softly. It was awkward, she knew, and it was bound to get more so when Rackna discovered yet another male near his lionesses.

"Or..." It was a wild fling but it might work. "You could stay here..."

Kichea's eyes widened as she looked at him in disbelief. "I...Akin..." She sputtered for words. His request had taken her by surprise.... she wanted to say yes...but thoughts of Rackna began to nibble at the back of her mind... he would come for her. She knew he would...

The Silver King pawed at the ground, his fur darkening with embarrassment. "I apologize, that was rude of me."

"No... that's not it... I would love to stay with you... but... Rackna..." How could she tell him?

"I...I will take you back and...talk to him..." Not that there would be much talking, he thought. More like a fight. He really didn't want to fight but he would for this lioness.

Kichea felt her heart growing warm at his words. Did he know what would happen when he took her back? Was he willing to face it? Face it for her? "Surely you jest...you can't be serious..." Part of her was willing to beleive it was a joke, but the other part ached at the thought of it.

The male smiled shyly and straightened. "I am not jesting." He was younger, possibly stronger and with more endurance then Rackna. He wasn't going to bet his life on that however. He had been looking to ally himself with the far away pride ever since he had allied himself with Karver.

She could barely beleive her ears. She knew it was impulsive, but she had to know. "When?"

"Soon...after my wounds heal enough." He pawed the corpse, peeling off the striped skin and taking a few bites of meat. "Are you sure you are not hungry anymore?"

"No...no i'm fine." Fine? She was better than fine... she was over joyed. An awkward silence hung in th air. She was planning on staying with this King, yet she knew nothing about him... "What is your favorite thing to do?"

He chewed thuroughly and swallowed before answering. "Watch a rain storm or a dawn." Another was to watch the silver lioness run across the sky in pursuit of the gold antelope.

"Hmmm..." She smiled at him. So strong, yet peaceful, like the harsh winds, and the warm breezes. One in the same, yet so different. "I know so little about you..." She mused aloud.

"Yet we seem to know each other." Akin said softly. He licked away the blood staining his chops, ever mindful of his appearance around the black female.

She turned her crimson gaze upon him. "You read my mind." A sultry smile formed as she stared, ever aware that it wasn't the most polite thing to do, expecially in the presence of a king.

The silver eyes blinked, aware yet unaware of the look on her face. "Umm..." He blushed again, choosing to investigate his wounds to cover for himself.

"Didn't I tell you to be gentle?" She chided him, leaving her place, she raised herself up and sidled up next to him. "Really, one would think you were a kit." She laid her head down on his side, blocking his veiw of his wounds. "It wont ever heal with you staring at it like you're watching the grass grow."

A rough purr started in his chest. He enjoyed the press of her body against his side. The King placed his head over hers in a protective and possessive gesture.

Kichea snuggled up underneath his chin, glad of his presence, and the calm he placed over her. A soft purr eminated from within her as she flicked her tail serenely in the heat of the savannah.

He didn't know how long they stayed that way, but when he opened his eyes again the herds had returned, the gold antelope was racing to the horizon and a lone buzzard was picking at the bloated zebra. He needed to return to his Pride soon, yet he wanted to stay here with the female. It was a internal war of epic porportions.

Kichea's eyes flicked open, her pupils dialating to the change in light. Abruptly, she sat up, looking around. Her gaze fell upon Akin and a dreamy smile slid across her face. "It seems that I dozed off..." She was a little embarassed, and yet, she was happy that she felt comfortable enough with the male to be able to dp such a thing.

Akin broke away from his musing decision over the buzzard to look down at the female. "I did as well..." He nuzzled her. "I must return to my Pride soon..."

"As do I..." She rose to her feet, casting him a longing look. "I will see you again?"

"Yes...very soon..." He followed her movement, pushing his face into her neck, biting lightly. Instincts were a hard thing to bury, especially when one didn't want to let something go.

Kichea pushed her face into his mane. "I do not want to go just yet..." Her voice was soft as she raised her muzzle and tugged on his ear. "Please... don't let me go..." She whispered softer yet.

He shivered, his hormones answering her plea. He didn't want her to leave, she was his alone. And he would claim her in whatever way he could. There was a growl, a low possessive growl. The rest would be history...
