Dee sighs and nods. "For the most part. I'm sorry I didn't come to visit you..." She looks over at her waste-basket. There are numerous empty alcohol bottles and cans poking out. "I've been sticking around home and drinking far too much. This is probably just my body catching up.
"I've been worried about you, too. How are you holding up?"

He lowered his head again, cocking it to one side to watch her with a big round eye, "I'm... I've... ah... b-been... b-been alright... " He didn't need to bother her with the fact he had trouble remembering how to speak in the morning and had nearly eaten a friend. Instead, he said, "I... I... ah... M-my... my f-friend Nita and I are... ah... w-woo-working on a p-project. It's... it's b-been giving me... me something to con-con-concentrate on." He gave a weak smile, but the croaks returned as sharp and loud as ever, "KrrKIT krrrKIT krrKIT!!"

Dee grits her teeth at the latest round of croaks, but doesn't flinch as obviously as before. "O-oh yeah? What kind of project?" Her throat (and, well, everything) aches. She fishes a few advil from her pocket, pops them in, and chugs the rest of the water bottle.
The naturalist doesn't look good, but she's making quite the effort to pay attention to her friend.

"W-we're... going to start a... a s-sort of... er... sec-sec-second hand.... ah... are... are y-you sure you're alright?" He shifted from sitting in a human-like posture to his more relaxing frog-crouch and watched her with growing concern as she downed the pain killers. Memories of Halloween crept through his numbed amphibious mind, and his stomach clenched and unclenched.

"Y-yeah," Dee tries to wave it off, smiling broadly. Even in the low light, however, she looks pale. Sweat beads on her forehead as she licks her inflamed lips. "Yeah, I'm fine. J-just need to get some more fluids back in me. " She unscrews the top of another water bottle and starts chugging that one, as well.
"Hangover an' all." She tries to change the subject. "D-do you see anything 'round here you could use?"

He watched her silently for a few moments, frowning with worry as his throat trembled in froggish anxiety, but he did glance around, "I... w-well... I... I r-re-re-really... need some n-new s-swim trunks..." Although he doubted she had any. He didn't believe her. The images of the graves moved through his mind's eye, and he hopped off of his chair to crouch at her feet, leaning a shoulder against her leg like a concerned dog.

Dee looks down at him affectionately. She reaches down and squeezes his shoulder. "Well, I can't help you there. Maybe we could ask the labs on your behalf? I'd be willing to try and help as much as I could." Despite her fairly-clear speech, she's leaning heavily against the back of her chair. "You can take as many of these empty bottles as you want, too."

He glanced to the pile, getting the feeling she was hinting towards something, "Y-you... y-you should... sh-should probably get some sl-sleep... I know th-that helps m-my hangovers... I'll... I'll l-let you b-be, th-these w-will be won-won-wonderful," He croaked, timidly leaping to the bin of recyclables she had been saving.

She watches him with a fond, if exhausted, expression. "Yeah, they're all yours, babe. And thank you, I think I'll just have to write off this afternoon's walk." Dee frowns, she hates having to cancel hikes, even if they're short ones. "I should be fine."
With a painful grunt, she grabs an additional bottle of water, gets to her feet, and hobbles over to the bed. "Newt...c'mere..." Dee grunts as she flops onto the comforter.

The frog glanced up from examining the contents of the bucket with a curious croak. When she called for him, he shifted shyly, but ultimately hopped across the room towards her bed side, ribbiting softly, "C-can... can I g-get you anything?" He offered.

Dee shakes her head and smiles. "Naw... I'll just sleep it off." She edges over and wraps her arms around the big ol' frog. "Thank you, Newt." she whispers, tired and shaky. "Thank you." She kisses his slick cheek, her skin hot to the touch.

At the kiss, he couldn't hold back the impulse to attempt to impress, his throat bubbling out with his sharp KrrKIT krrrKIt KrrKIT before he managed to hold his breath and keep them at bay. He shifted, but sat up to timidly slip his slimy, amphibious arms around her fevered waist, "Y_you... y-you f-feel better and... and I'll... I'll m-make you s-som-som-something n-nice!" He managed to say, although his voice was sharp and tense from the effort of holding back the mating calls.

Dee laughed softly and gave him a poor excuse for a 'noogie', then laid back down against the pillows. "You don't have to, but I appreciate it. And, th-thank you." She couldn't bring herself to say the 'L' word, but through the fever and confusion, she was definitely feeling it. "G-good luck, Newt. I'll check up on you as soon as I can."

"D-do you... w-want me to come b-back to-to-tomorrow? M-make sure... y-you're okay?" Make sure she wasn't dead? His bulbous eyes began to water as worry clenched at his stomach. He rested the end of his snout on the bed, clutching it with his webbed hands. Complications, complications, what if there were complications in her serum? What if he came back the next day and found her dead? A whistling coo escaped his throat, "Or... or... or to-to-tonight! I c-could com-com-come back tonight! Or... or... ah...!"

"Shhhshh..." Dee whispers. "N-no... I'll come see you once I'm over it. Y-you just try and get yourself back into some sort of n-normality and don't worry about me. I'll be fine, I promise." She glances over at the pile of bottles. "I've had it worse than this before."
She bites back a grimace as a new wave of aches courses through her. She doesn't notice, but odd patterns have begun to appear on her skin. They've developed so slowly that she doesn't pay them any attention. Her eyes start to sting and water again, and she wipes them with the back of her hand.
