Surge eyed Bagon distrustfully, not entirely sure what it was. However, he decided to start things of with a bang. "All right Jaeshan! Let's see what that puny little Pokemon of yours can do! Go get 'em, Magnemite! Metal Sound!"

Magnemite emitted a monotonous hum, the two magnets on the sides of its body spinning around and around until they were a blur. The sound of metal screeching up against metal reverberated throughout the gym, and even Jaeshan had to cover his ears.

Bagon cried out, thrashing her head back and forth in order to try and stop the noise. "Shake it off Bagon! Attack with Headbutt!"

Bagon blinked, staring down the Magnemite and growling sharply. She broke into a run, her arms flailing as she charged, then jumped, slamming herself headfirst into the Magnemite's body.

Vaporeon dashed away, jumping over the hole in the stage, but the Giga Drain proved quite effective. She fell onto the spintered wood, holding herself up by her 'elbows'. It was a massive struggle to try and get out of the hole, but she managed. A few scrapes here and there on her stomach. "Oh, my poor baby!"

The orbs returned to Lombre as he landed on the ground opposite the weakened Vaporeon. His stamina was restored and he nodded at the Pokemon, as if to say 'Sorry, ma'am.' When Lombre looked over his shoulder at Kilik, his expression read 'Got to do what the sheriff says'.

"Boy's no pushover..." Frana said quietly, crossing her arms as she stood there watching, "Quite skilled. No way he's just starting his journey.."

"Please," Joslena scoffed, "When Vaprina loses, I'll put him in his place." She flicked her head to get her bangs out of her eyes.

Esprina looked at the Jolteon girl and smiled. "Leave a piece for me. He won't beat all five of us so easily." There was another crash, signifying an attack had gone through. She looked over to see that Lombre had fallen to the ground because a Tackle attack from Vaporeon.

Umbra shook her head. "The boy won't lose," she laughed, "He's got more skill than us. I can feel it." She ignored the strange looks she received, "Think about it. He took out Frana with one Pokemon. It looks like he's managing the same with Vaprina," she continued, "He doesn't have just two Pokemon, Sisters. Look at his belt." She pointed at the assortment, "Six Pokemon. Do the math."

A sigh escaped her. "I thought I was the smart one..."

Umbra blinked at her. "That doesn't mean we're all giving up. I'll still battle the cutie." She looked over at Kilik. Lombre hit Vaporeon with an Astonish. The boy clenched his fists, running his thumb over his nose.

"YOU THINK HE'S CUTE?!"

Kilik looked over at the sisters and blinked. The sudden outburst from three of them shocked him slightly. Weird.

Umbra said nothing, but crossed on leg over the other and closed her eyes.

Keegan walked with a quickened pace towards the mart, not much of an expression set in his features. He'd slipped on his coat, despite the fact that the sun was shining down on them and the temperature was already quite warm, and both hands rested in his pockets as he walked. As he neared the mart, he spotted a group of girls, recognizing them in an instant. They'd been the ones he'd met outside the bike repair shop several days ago, and had made fun of his shabby appearance. He cleared his throat, and nodded at them. "Good morning, ladies," he said, flashing them a smile. As he walked, he heard them giggling excitedly, and shook his head. "I knew they wouldn't remember me."

The thoughts soon slipped from his mind as he came upon the Pokemon Mart, its doors open for business once more. A sweet-looking older lady was sweeping the front step, and once again Keegan greeted her with a kind smile and a light nod. She blushed a little bit as he entered, quickly going back to her cleaning. Luckily he knew exactly what he was looking for, not that it would really help in the upcoming battle against Wattson. The gym leader used electric type Pokemon, and he was here specifically to pick up a TM for Althena. He'd been inspired during the battle the previous evening with those idiotic cosplayers, and he hurriedly sorted through the random TMs, eventually coming up with three that he would buy - Ice Beam, Sunny Day and Steel Wing. Noting the price tags on the items, he tallied his total, already having the proper amount of money out when the cashier asked for it. "Thanks," he told her as he handed her $6,500 and exited the mart. "So I'll be seeing you guys a little sooner then expected," he shrugged as he let out the three recipients of their moves.

After a few moments, the new moves were taught, each Pokemon looking rather happy at finally having something new. Althena learned Ice Beam, Helios learned Sunny Day, and Artemis learned Steel Wing. Not sure what to do with the leftover discs, he shoved them into one of the pockets on his backpack, his hand bumped against something hard and warm to the touch. Perplexed, he pulled it out, and had a look at it. It as a piece of charcoal, attached to a cord. There was also a letter from his mother:

Keegan:

I found this while cleaning up. Your father says fire type Pokemon make good use of it, so we thought you should give it to Helios. Good luck, and we're proud of you.

Love,
Mom and Dad

Keegan smiled, slipping the note back into the pocket and calling Helios over. Even though he said nothing as he placed the strange charcoal ornament around the Vulpix's neck, Helios could feel its power, and he nodded in approval. "Let's go to the gym, then." He recalled his trio, and set his sights on the Mauville Gym complex.

((That last bit was because I'd forgotten about that Charcoal from day one. Ehehehe... sweatdrop ))

Both Surge and Jaeshan winced at the sound of metal clashing against metal. The Magnemite floated back several feet, the screws attached to its body twisting and spinning. Its single eye narrowed and it glared at Bagon, happy to oblige as Surge ordered a Shock Wave attack. The magnet Pokemon began to spin, generating an electrical current that charged up around its body. It stopped turning, the current flowing through one magnet and then the other before the unerring attack was sent straight for Bagon.

"Bagon, get out of the way!" Jaeshan cried, even though it was no use. Bagon tried to jump to the side in an attempt to dodge, but the electricity arched after her, surging through her small body. Ineffective as it may be, it still hurt, and she stood up, electricity crackling over her body as she glared daggers at the Steel-type before her. "Try an Ember!" the boy called hopefully, deciding that someday he'd upgrade that attack to a full-fledged Flamethrower. Bagon hopped up and down excitedly, flailing her arms once again (Jaeshan realized at this point that every time she moved, she flailed her arms, which meant she was pretending she could fly). She opened her mouth, and expelled a small burst of flames at the strange magnetic Pokemon.

Watching Keegan leave, figuring that he was a bit antsy before his battle. Leaning back in his chair Dante put his boots up on the table, something his mother would never let him get away with at home. Glancing down at his pokemon, most of whom had stopped eatting he said with a small smile on his face. "Lets give him a while and meet him at the gym. Besides I want to get a few battles done in there so rest up you guys." That said he relaxed into his chair.

Meowth didn't say anything as he continued to wolf down his waffles. Kenny who seemed to like hanging out with his trainer just floated around behind him Levi was running around begging scraps off of other trainers, she was a growing Mudkip and she needed her food. Moeder was busy chasing the little Mudkip around to try to get her into her pouch. Bahamut was leaving dents in the metal legs of the chairs by biting them, Dante didn't care to stop her. Last but certaintly not least Apollo was standing near his trainer his soft doe eye's looking around slowly.

After a moment of rest Dante took his boots off of the table and streached. Looking around at his pokemon he pulled out five pokeballs and recalled them all. Looking down at the satisfied Meowth he grinned. "Now lets go see if we can find some trouble at the gym." Meowth just opened one eye and looked at him for a moment before hopping off the chair and following Dante to the gym.

Keegan stepped up to the gym, looking up at it for a few moments before he pushed the doors open, and stepped inside. It wasn't anything like the gyms he'd been in before. Dewford's had been dark and quiet, and the one in Rustboro had been rather plain. This one was bright and bustling, and the redhead could spot several trainers hard at work with their electric Pokemon. "Themis will feel right at home," he nodded, putting his hands on his hips and stepping down the stairs and into the gym. The moment his right foot touched the ground, he heard a click, and the feeling of his foot pressing down on a switch. He barely had time to utter a "What the...?" when a wall of lightning sparked between two conductors ahead of him, blocking off his path.

Keegan nearly jumped back in surprise, staring at the eletrical barrier before him. After a few moments, he caught on, lifting his foot and looking down at the ground - he'd stepped on a pressure plate that was shaped like a lightning bolt. "So you like traps, do you Wattson?" he chuckled, scanning the floor in the immediate area. He could see another switch a little off in the distance, and he walked towards it, careful to avoid any others that he might have missed. Upon reaching the switch he pressed down on it with his foot, hearing another click. He turned around to see that the barrier had vanished, but another one had formed in the distance. "This is getting old, and fast," he sighed, moving forward to find the next switch.

"If you're looking for the next switch, you'll..."

"...Have to beat you first, I know the routine," Keegan sighed, and pivoted on one foot, fanning his dark coat out behind him. "So let's just get it over with, all right?"

He locked eyes with the young boy before him, who just stared at him for a moment, a noticeable shiver traversing down his spine. "Uh, yeah th-that's right. I've trained my Pokemon with Wattson himself. Y-you won't beat us s-so easily!"

"Mmmhmm. Try me," Keegan retorted in a bored voice, hands on his hips. He shook his head as the youngster released a Zigzagoon, which seemed quite out of place. "Yeah, uh, all right. Kid, in case you haven't noticed, they train electric Pokemon in here."

"Don't be so close-minded," the boy retorted. "Send out your Pokemon and we'll do battle."

"As you wish." Keegan grabbed a Poke Ball and eyed the boy once more before he sent out Althena.

Krystal bobbed and weaved up and down and all around as she headed in a northwestern direction, bound for Olivine. Nina sure seems to be in a good mood, as opposed to how she was acting earlier, the dragon thought. I wonder if something happened?... Ah, it's not important I suppose. It makes me happy to see her happy; Nina's so pathetic when she's not. Krystal chuckled, which came out as some sort of a disgruntled coo.

After flying for a while longer, Krystal looked downwards and spotted the blue sea, and a ship docked in the harbor. This must be the place! she thought. She touched down near the Pokemon Center, and allowed her trainer and Whitney to dismount. Krystal felt her body being sucked back into its Ultra Ball a few seconds later, giving her time to rest up.

Nina chuckled a little bit, looking around. "Wow," she said, "it's been one heck of a long time since I've been here. I think the last time I was here was when I was heading down to Cianwood to battle Chuck." By some slight miracle, Whitney was managing to listen to Nina talk, and she walked around a little and looked around. "Like, yeah," she said, "I haven't been here in a long time either. I think that, like, the last time I was here was when I, like, had to get that Strength HM from that dude man that like, lives in the city. You like, totally know what guy I mean, right?"

Nina felt herself lose an intelligence point. "Err. Yeah." She blinked, and made her way inside of the Center, Whitney following. She gave her Pokemon to Nurse Joy, who went into the back room to heal them. Nina made herself comfortable on the sofa that was located in the main room, while Whitney looked at the vending machine, debating whether or not she was hungry.

Surge raised an eyebrow, not having expected a Fire-type move to come from the odd little Pokemon. "Say there, is that a dragon of sorts?" he yelled over at Jaeshan, out of sheer curiosity. Magnemite was making annoyed sounds, its body glowing red in the place where the embers had touched it.

"Uh, yeah, she's a Bagon," Jaeshan replied uneasily, feeling as though Surge's eyes could bore a hole right through him.

"Right then. Okay Magnemite, Shock Wave again! Let's take that dragon down before it can do anymore damage!" At the leader's command, Magnemite began to charge, blasting Bagon with another jolt of unavoidable electricity.

"Try another Ember, Bagon! It seemed to work well enough before!" Once again, pretending to fly, Bagon leapt up, opening her mouth and spitting another weak blast of flames at the magnetic Pokemon. It let out a high-pitched wail, spinning frantically in circles. Black scorches covered various places on its body - it had suffered a burn.

Not knowing if Keegan was in the gym or not Dante just shrugged and stepped inside. His question was answered when he saw Keegan send out Althena. Smiling slightly he silently wished him good luck before turning his attention to the trapped gym. Seeing the electric fence in front of him he smiled slightly before tossing out Bahamut's pokeball. Tossing it out revealing the dragonfly pokemon who gave a loud chear upon seeing her trainer and latched onto his arm. "I saw you a few minutes ago Bahamut. Oh and I almost forgot. I have another gift for you." He said with a small smile before reaching into his bag and pulling out his TM case. Riffling through it he found his recently earned. Finding the green disk he placed it carefully on Bahamuts head and after a few moments it glowed before crumbling in his hand. "There you go thats Giga Drain, it should help you again'st those pesky water pokemon that might know an ice move or two." He said with a small smile. Bahamut just gave a happy cry and flapped her wings, she was still clutching onto Dante's arm.

"You know she can't learn anymore TM moves now since she all ready knows five." Meowth said watching the whole thing carefully.

Looking over Dante blinked confused. "Really, I did not know there was a limit." He said as he eyed the pokemon clutched to his arm. "Well thank you for telling me. I might have to get rid of one of them in the future." He said thoughtfully wondering if there was anyway he could actually do that. Shruging deciding that he could leave that until he actually needed to delete a move. Deciding to actually do what he had brought Bahamut out here for. "Bahamut, could you go stand in that electric fence for me?" He asked giving a small wave towards the fence in front of them.

"Heh thats a pretty good plan you have there." Meowth said as he watched Bahamut leap off of her trainers arm and fly over to the fence. They both watched as she played around in the electricity her ground half voiding any damage that it might do. Soon half of the fence was somewhat open, at least open enough for Dante and Meowth to step through it.

"H-hey... You can't, you can't do that." Came a somewhat shy voice to Dante's side.

Althena appeared in a flash of light, looking around the electrified gym with terror-stricken eyes. She turned, staring back at Keegan with a look that was easy to read - Are you insane?! Keegan just smiled, and nodded towards the Zigzagoon. He hadn't noticed Dante enter the gym.

"Let's teach him a little lesson, shall we?" the youngster said, seeming a bit more confident upon seeing the water type. The Zigzagoon nodded, twitching its nose excitedly.

"Let's see now..." Keegan thought about the last time he'd battled one of these. It had taken out Helios with only two attacks. "These Pokemon can be tough. Be on your guard, Althena," Keegan told her. Althena nodded, still looking a little panicky.

"Get that duck with a Tackle, Ziggy!" the boy shouted. The striped Pokemon dashed towards Althena, its clawed feet scraping the floor as it moved. Althena braced herself, uttering a small cry as the attack connected.

"Let's try out your new move, Althena. Ice Beam!" Keegan smirked, suddenly very thankful for the existence of TMs. The Psyduck focused her gaze on the small brown Pokemon, then opened her beak wide, sending out a frosty ray of ice. It was a direct hit, and it sent the opponent skidding back several feet to land by its trainer's feet. It wasn't ready to stop yet, jumping back into a fighting pose and growling fiercely.

Glancing over Dante saw that a young looking boy was standing there who was looking somewhat scared. Smiling a bit, in a way that he hoped didn't scare the kid. "Yeah I know I am not, I am not challenging the gym leader though so I figure it doesn't really matter." He said shrugging, by now Bahamut had stopped playing in the electric fence and flew over to her trainers side again.

Upon seeing the dragon pokemon the kids eyes widened even more. "That-that Vibravra belongs to you?" He said as he looked at the pokemon in front of him. He knew that he was supposed to challenge trainers who entered the gym but he only had two pokemon. One was fairly strong but it was electric, and wouldn't stand a chance against the Vibravra with that kind of disadvantage. His other pokemon was new, he had just caught it and it had no chance against the high leveled pokemon. "I-I know I can't win against your Vibravra but I-I still n-need to challenge you to a-a-a battle." He said trying his best to sound brave. He had joined this gym to become a stronger person.

Frowning Dante and Meowth exchanged glances. Looking back over at the kid Dante felt a wave of sympathy for him. "Hey how about we strike a deal. How many pokemon do you have?"

"T-two. But one of them isn't very strong, I just caught her." The kid said looking somewhat embarrassed at that.

"Two huh? Well how about this, we have a two on two battle. I won't use Bahamut here." He patted the dragon attached to his arm. "And I myself recently had an egg hatch, so she is fairly low leveled. So lets just have a battle like that. After this we can go get our pokemon healed up and then come back?" He offered trying to do his best to encourage the kid.

Upon hearing the offer the youngster smiled and looked hopeful. "You sure?" He asked hoping that this wasn't a trick. Dante just nodded. "Ok then! Umm my name is Neal and this is my Jolteon Spike!" He said enthusiastically as he tossed out one of his pokeballs to reveal said Jolteon. The electric Eeveelution came out in a flash and a static of electricity.

Smiling slightly at the sight Dante reached down for one of the Safari balls on his belt. "My name is Dante, and this happens to be a very loyal friend of mine." He tossed it out to reveal the Apollo. The fire horse upon coming out in a burst of flame reared back on his hind legs. Letting out a loud whiney before crashing down his hard as diamond hooves making a loud bang on the metal floor. "His names Apollo, and I am sure he will give you and that Jolteon of yours a run for your money."

PostPosted: Sat Feb 17, 2007 8:16 am

Surge remained silent as Magnemite suffered a burn, and crossed his arms over his broad chest. "We're not finished yet. Magnemite, Sonic Boom!" The man's voice roared throughout the gym, like thunder rumbling in the sky overhead. He may not have been the most powerful of gym leaders, but his presence was often enough to intimidate opponents into making mistakes during their battles. Magnemite spun around again; creating a small cyclonic shape that was hurled towards Bagon.

The dragon was struck by the Sonic Boom, resounding with a loud bang, and she backed off a little, fatigue starting to settle into her little body. "Hang in there Bagon, you can do it!" Jaeshan encouraged, hoping the little dragon could persevere just a little longer. "Use your Headbutt!" he called, and Bagon pulled herself together and charged at the floating Magnemite, soaring through the air and landing a solid blow on its metallic body with the hard-plated band on her head. The magnetic Pokemon wheeled around in the air, unable to get control of itself as it was flung backwards into the wall behind Surge, leaving a small dent and skidding to the floor, unable to continue.

The youngster looked a little surprised by the Ice Beam attack, but retaliated with a smug smile of his own. "Okay Ziggy, lets show them why we're a part of this gym! Shock Wave!"

The Zigzagoon raised itself up on its back legs, its fur brisling and becoming alive with static electricity. It shook its body, freeing the energy and launching it towards Althena.

"What!?" Keegan exclaimed, taking a step backwards as his Pokemon was struck by the electrical attack. "So you use TMs too, huh?" The boy grinned and nodded. Keegan glanced over at his Psyduck as she got back up to her feet and brushed herself off. It seemed that Zigzagoon didn't have a powerful Special Attack ability, so it didn't do as much damage as it could have. "I think that's just about enough of that. Disable it, Althena!"

The Psyduck narrowed her eyes at her opponent, for a second rendering him unable to move. The moment passed and Ziggy stood there, blinking in confusion. All knowledge of his ability to use Shock Wave had been wiped out.

Finally deciding on a sandwich, Whitney inserted a single dollar into the machine, and pressed the B6 button. The machine whirred a little bit and dispensed the product; the girl picked it up and sat next to Nina, unwrapping the sandwich and taking a bite out of it.

Nina looked around the center as she waited for her Pokemon to be returned to her. The center looked identical to all the other ones she had been in, for the most part. There was a bronze-colored magazine rack near the door, and she spotted several titles such as Pokemon Today; Who's Who : Famous Pokemon Icons; and All About... The girl got up from her seat and picked up the latter of the magazines and sat back down; All About... was a magazine which showcased something different about the Pokemon world every month. This month, the magazine was featuring information on how to breed Pokemon and how to "get the results that you want!" Nina leafed through the pages, and read about a breeder from the Hoenn region, named Janice Sequoia. She was forty-three years old, and lived in Fortree City. She had been breeding Pokemon since she was twenty-one, and had revealed a couple of her breeding tips.

First and foremost, the article said, you need to have a picture in your head of the resulting Pokemon that you would like. Do you want a male Corsola that can use Ingrain? How about a female Bulbasaur that has the Curse attack? Maybe a female Pineco with Flail? After you have the image in your mind, you must research, research, research. Find out which Pokemon learn the moves that you want on your hatchling, and find out what breeding family each Pokemon belongs to. Some Pokemon belong to two families, which gives that Pokemon a much larger amount of Pokemon it is capable of breeding with...

Nina finished reading the article, which was some three and a half pages long. She had never bred a Pokemon before, but the magazine had really given her a viable amount of information on the topic. Nina put the magazine back on the rack, and as she did so, Nurse Joy returned, carrying her Pokeballs on a silver tray.

"Here you are, miss," she said sweetly, a little smile on her face.
Nina thanked her, and put her Pokeballs back onto her belt. She headed for the door, Whitney following close behind, throwing her sandwich wrapper in the garbage. Stepping outside, Nina stretched her arms a little bit, and looked northward at the Gym.

"Well," she said, "I suppose I'd better go there and get this over with." She started walking toward the Gym,
Whitney keeping pace. "Like, wait," she said, "aren't going to like, catch a new Pokemon or something?" She watched Nina shake her head. "Oh. Then, do you, like, have a plan or something? Like, some secret plot to overthrow Jasmine or some junk?" Nina chuckled a little bit and sighed. "Oh, I wish I had a plan."

The rest of the trip was entirely silent, until Nina arrived at the Gym. She stopped at the door, and took a deep breath. This is it, she thought, and stepped inside. Immediately upon doing so, she saw the woman she was looking for, standing on a section of the floor that was slightly raised up. "Jasmine!" she called, walking closer to the Leader, "It's me, Nina Williams, of Blackthorn City... You may know that I am the new Gym Leader of Saffron City... And I have come to challenge you for a Mineral Badge!"

Nina blinked. That sentence sounds vaguely familiar...
