Sensing the other's hazel eyes on her more harshly now, she realized there was a heavy silence about the room. She lifted her eyes, slowly, and met Maryke's. ********, she had heard it. She looked equally shocked that her enhanced senses had picked up on it. After a long pause, she looked away, picking up the can of beer and taking a thick, heavy swallow. Maybe she was crazy...? Or maybe she was drunk. No, that couldn't be it. This stuff was nothing compared to what she was used to, and she'd barely had one bottle's worth between her meeting with Newt and this can right now. She wished she was... then it'd make this situation less awkward. Eyes averted, she waited for Maryke to make the first move, say the first word... something to break the awkwardness and relieve the tension that lied beneath it.

It didn't go as Alexa planned. Instead of breaking anything Maryke continued to stare dumbfoundly over at her counterpart, her mouth still agape. Inwardly she knew Alexa was still obesssed with her, hell all of her bitter catty remarks were based around that. But somehow hearing the other saying it outloud, it just made her think of the happier times the two had shared, which is definitaly not the things she needed to be thinking about right now.
She certainly was vulnerable in this moment of time.

She couldn't stand it anymore. She had to say something... anything... to break this. Her eyes drifted back to Maryke's, and she melted again. It was as if her tongue had lost all ability to move. Clearing her throat, she snapped herself out of it. "So.... uh.... uhm...." She stared down at the table, trying to come up with something to say, but that was all she could manage. Her cheeks flushed as she glanced up with a sheepish grin, hoping it'd pull Maryke from her silent stare.

Finally Maryke's eyes ticked away and she ran a blackened hand through her black and white, yet partially brunette locks. "I should go." she said quietly, already beginning to make her way to the door.

Alexa's spirits sank at that, and she was quick to spring to her feet. "Do you have to?" She asked, her voice almost squeaking with the tension she was feeling. "It's... it's still raining... and it's cold... and dark.... " Of course, she didn't feel she really had an argument... but just like Maryke, Alexa liked company when there was a storm. Probably because she seldom had it as a child. She could still hear her parents snoring away in their bedroom during thunder storms, leaving her to hide under the covers alone and scared. Which made her think of Charlie... which made her bite her lip. Maybe Maryke didn't have to go... maybe they could ignore that breif exchange and get some more conversation in before she really did have to go.

"And do what here, hmm?" she asked, regaining some of the fire that seemed to have been put out with all the thoughts of what the two coulda had together. She stepped towards Alexa now, finally stepping all the way up to the other girl before her maw was just barely in front of Alexa's delicate human face.
"Let me guess? You either wanna screw my brains out, orrrr," she smiled, a cross between pleasantness and straight up vindication. "You wanna hang out for old times sake. Do our hair, play around with makeup, talk about boys...and oh yea, have me set you up a nice date with Mr. Johnny foot fetish. That it?"

Alexa wrinkled her nose in disgust as Maryke spoke. It wasn't because of her appearance up close... no... it was what she said. Mostly because they both knew she was stabbing at shallow lies and shadows of truth. She was right in that there wasn't much to do here, but that didn't mean she had to leave.
"Not everything is about ********." She said, her voice regaining a harsh edge. Her comments had cut her deeper than she should have let them. "I would have thought that by now you would realize I'm not about that anymore. Maybe I was wrong."

"Oh but I'm so good at it," she teased, even going as far as to lean in closer, now breathing hot air from her maw into Alexa's face. Finally she pulled away completely. "You coulda fooled me, Lexa...afterall, you're the on who opened your door wearing nothing but a robe."

Alexa smirked, sickeningly sweet, at her comment. The warm air was sweet, reflecting Maryke's new diet. It was almost intoxicating. When she pulled away, Alexa was slightly distraught, but didn't let it show much. Mayrke was practically asking for it now, and Mr. Woodrow or not, Alexa was not going to hold back this time.
She came closer to the lemur woman casually, reaching out and running a hand down her delicate cheek, feeling the soft, fine fur around the base of her muzzle all at once. "Maybe I should have, then." She said softly, letting her voice slip into a husky rasp as her eyes ticked from her hand to Maryke's eyes. "Afterall," she parrotted back, "you're the one who asked me to get out of that robe."

Maryke stiffened at the touch, her hazels, her still human eyes, boring wholes into the other girl's blueish green ones. She didn't know how to act, or what to think when normally she was more at home in a situation like this. She loved Billy damnit. No, maybe she wasn't IN love with him, but she cared about him greatly. This would hurt him. She knew that much, and the guy was already feeling shitty over his lost tentacle, not to mention with all the things that b***h Aubrey had done to him. So she should just leave and tell Alexa, this time flat out instead of a cheesy line or low class shot, to get the ******** out.
But no words came. Instead a silky black tail had a mind of its own and reached around herself to begin to slink up the side of Alexa's body.

Alexa felt her stiffen, and her smile remained sickeningly sweet. She knew on the inside that she wanted Maryke to stay, to be hers, to spend their ******** up eternity together on this island, but right now she was just asking for trouble. Alexa didn't have the self control to keep the snide remarks at bay.
That is, until one extremely soft appendage started up her side. Her glare instantly softened and her jaw went lax. She glanced down at the tail, then up into Maryke's eyes again, cocking her head to one side. She could clearly see that Maryke didn't want to do anything by her eyes, but her tail was weaving another tale altogether. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Her hand slid down from the other's cheek, caressing her body gently as it returned to it's owner's side. Alexa was once again mildly shocked by the entire thing.

"I........." she said, before finally forcibly grabbing her tail away from the other and holding it so the damn thing would keep still. Two ruffed ears flattened against her skull while she continued to stare at Alexa. One solitary whimper escaped her maw as she thought that maybe, just for insant she could pretend they were both back in time. Just for one moment pretend that they were together back at her loft again, she human and Alexa not so conniving. It wasn't good for Alexa to have tried to take over as Maryke. The former madam was a ruthless b***h who was so ******** up emotionally even Dr. Phil would be left scratching his head. She wanted that dream to come true so badly, as evident in her tail's movements. Even know it was twitching to return to Alexa.
But it was high time Maryke stopped living in fantasy world. ".....have to go," she finally finished before she broke away completely and headed towards the door. After unlocking everything Alexa had done to keep others out, she swept out of it. Making it a point to not look back for fear she would be enticed to stay further.

Alexa was frozen stiff. On the one hand, she wanted to melt into Maryke like they had that one night so long ago, but on the other she could see it in Maryke's eyes that it wasn't meant to be; not now, anyway. She could see that Maryke had no control, or very little, over her tail. Her tail was the leak to her real feelings. Alexa looked at it for a moment as she came to this conclusion, watching it fight against it's owner's hand to reach for her skin again. She looked up at Maryke for one last moment, eyes connecting and saying what she couldn't. She wanted to go back too. Back to when it was simple, when they could do whatever they wanted. She wanted to take all the ******** ups back and be normal again, living in the lap of luxury and playing with her madam in front of a roaring fire.
And then, after that one silent confession had been made, Maryke was gone. She'd broken away, leaving Alexa's hand dangling in mid air where the flesh and fur had been only seconds before. It took Alexa a minute to realize Maryke had left, but by the time she started to move to the door, Maryke was long gone. Reaching the door, the only thing she managed to do was close it slowly and turn the lock. Their lives were out of their hands now, truly. Desires meant nothing. Devastated by the close encounter, Alexa pressed her back into the wooden door and slid to the floor, face buried in her hands. Damn did she need to forget about all this.

The Rare and Illusive HumanLauren Granger Lauren had just stepped out of her duplex already forgetting her note. This was the first time she was trying this camera out and while it was big and bulky, it was lightweight and tons less bulky than it's ancestors were. It was digital instead of analog, most of the bulk was the lens and the large microphone attached to it. She had been shooting everything, and it hadn't been getting old yet. Bugs, plants, people from afar that didn't know she was filming them, etc, nothing was safe from the new eyes of Lauren. It was much to her excitement that she had happened to see a actual HUMAN across the village proper. A HUMAN islander, for once she actually hoped to get footage of 'the talk'. That would be ******** awesome! Lauren waved out at the person and made sure everything was on. Alexa Drew Summers Another dull day on the island... well, not really. Alexa hadn't been here terribly long, and she hadn't really explored much either. She'd been in her duplex most of the time, and beyond that she'd been to the beach for the alcohol and Maryke's duplex to sleuth around. She still hadn't really fully gotten the lay of the land yet, and so she was venturing out again. She was poking around the village proper, taking in the scenery, when she noticed movement from the other side of the common area.
she turned and looked, seeing a curious figure behind a large camera. She cocked a brow. Was she... waving? At... Alexa? She raised a hand hesitantly and waved back. The girl looked almost normal, had it not been for the fur and horns and snout, but other than that relatively humanesque. Not much like Newt. She wondered what sort of animal this one was, but didn't care to ask. Instead, she waited, wondering what the hell was going to happen next. Lauren Granger Lauren ran up to the woman, "Hey! Mind if I ask you a few questions?" She told her, "From your reaction I take it I'm not the first islander you have met huh?" Her voice was a little disapointed at this but she carried on non the less. "So, How do you like it here so far?" Maybe she was jumping ahead of herself, but she was hopeing to use this footage in her show! That would be so sweet. Alexa Drew Summers "Uh.... okay..." Alexa replied, still rather perplexed by the entire ordeal. She listened quietly, blinking and staring into the lens of the camera on and off. She decided not to question what it might be for. Maybe it was just part of the head honcho's scamming campaign. Not that she wanted to be a part of that, but the girl seemed enthusiastic enough. Brainwashed or not, Alexa didn't want to get in trouble for declining anything.
"Uhm... it's.... nice." She started, still curious as to what the hell was going on. "The beach is pretty and my fridge stays stocked so I'm not complaining." Lauren Granger THIS IS GREAT! Lauren thought to herself. She LIKES it here, wonderful! "Yeah, it's awesome isn't it? Did you have a rough life back at home? Did Moreau save you from the horrors of life on the mainland?" It was a long shot but she could always edit stuff out that was... unessesary. Alexa Drew Summers Alexa was more than a little bit confused by the whole commotion. Perhaps after the camera was off she could ask real questions to this strange girl. She folded her arms across her chest, trying to look less edgy about the whole encounter.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool so far..." minus the part that we're all lab rats to some freak in a white lab coat... "Moreau?" Must be the guy in charge of this joint... And Aubrey must be his b***h. "Oh, yeah... you know... wouldn't want the FBI getting me... but I do miss home." Lauren Granger And then it was gone, like that. Lauren tried to save the momment she had wanted, "Yeah but better than jail right? Tropical island, well stocked fridge, nice sandy beach, whatever you ask for is yours?" She tried to lead the conversation away from the home part. "Federal prison and a babe like you, you'd be everyone's b***h. Now that WOULD NOT be fun." Alexa Drew Summers She thought about it for a moment. Rotting away in a jail cell and being everyone's lesbian b***h whore versus an island being mutated into only God knew what. Hmmmmm. Yes. "I guess when you put it that way, at least you get anything you want here, or so I've heard..." She glanced around. It was a nice day, and a beautiful setting. Turning into an animal was probably a lot smaller penalty for prostitution than the alternative. She shuddered at the thought of being trapped with ugly, wrinkled, cheap whores... ew. "I've never been to prison, but I'd say being turned into a creature is punishment enough for anyone." She didn't comment on the 'babe' name. She was used to be calling names, but she did contemplate it. Kind of a ... strange comment to be made by a woman. And her brain labelled Lauren lesbo at that moment. Lauren Granger Lauren thought she had enough footage here, so turned the camera off for a momment and let it hang from her shoulder strap, "That was great! Awesome footage, I didn't expect to get such great news so early on!" This made Lauren very excited about her new project and better yet it was a healthy way to keep her mind off Nita, "I'm Lauren by the way, and you are..?" She held her paw out for a handshake. Alexa Drew Summers Alexa was relieved when the camera was shut off and hanging dormant at the furry woman's side. She wasn't expecting to be approached in such a fashion in the first place, so she hoped she'd given her whatever she wanted. Alexa looked down at the extended... paw... for a moment, then up at the snouted woman, then back at it again. After that moment's hesitation, she took the appendage in greeting, giving it a firm shake. "I'm Alexa, nice to meet you, I think." She laughed a bit, nervously. She was still reeling from the whole thing. Lauren Granger Lauren saw the apprehension towards her own monsterous appearance, "Heh, better get used to it now before you start changing. You won't have that perfect untouched complexion anymore." Her own muzzle upturned into a wry smile at that. For some reason, she had seperated herself from humans all except for Moreau and Sabin, and looked down upon them a bit. It as like they were young and experianced and a whole drift seperated them, "What are ya turning into?" She asked inquisitively. Alexa Drew Summers "Heh..." She offered in return to her first comment. Lauren was making her a little bit uncomfortable with so many personal mentions. She thought for a moment on how she looked at her, noting there was something different... did all of them think like that towards unchanged people? Queer. "Uh... I don't actually know." She said honestly, looking down as if ashamed. "They didn't exactly tell me when I got here..." Lauren Granger Lauren still had a friendly smile pasted on her face, "Well ask then, they'll tell you." She started to play with her camera with slight disinterest to the current conversation. "Better to know than for things to fly your way while unprepared. Alexa Drew Summers "I guess..." she paused for a moment, eyes dropping to contemplate that for a moment or two. "So if I ask, they'll tell me just like that?" She continued. She didn't think she'd actually ask, but it might be useful if she couldn't figure it out after the first change hit... or maybe she did want to know, but either way it would be nice to know how to work this new option. Lauren Granger "Well YEAH... it's not like they are out to torture us in everyway. This is the only way they can continue their research unfortunately, but they treat their subjects well... that is unless those subjects happen to abuse their generosity." Lauren pointed at her camera, the thing that was the forfront of her brain right now, "I'm working on making islander tv. Not too certain just what I am going to do with it but I got permission from the head honchos to work on it, and hopefully once I get all the programs worked out every islander will get a tv linked to this programing. Will at least be something more to do, besides getting drunk on the beach." Alexa Drew Summers Alexa nodded silently, contemplating that. She tended to teeter back and forth between wanting to know more about the island and it's purpose and wanting to know more about Maryke's on-island escapades. It was useful to hear something positive about the island and the whole project, especially from an islander. Then again, Lauren seemed to be the type that wouldn't be stopped by much, including being a guinea pig to this Moreau character.
On another note, Islander TV? Well, it would give them something else to do since there really wasn't much... or not much that Alexa had discovered this far. She didn't really want to be on TV... but she probably didn't have a choice. An islander that said good things about the operations must be working for them, so she probably shouldn't argue. Not much, anyway. "Oh... that's a neat idea, I guess. Too bad we can't get news from the mainland and keep up to date with that, though." She didn't really care much for the mainland other than her lifestyle, but she thought it would be a good thing to say. Lauren Granger Lauren laughed at her, "Why WOULD we need to keep up? None of us are ever going back so you can just get those delusions out of your head right now." She responded playfully. "No use keeping tabs on anything to do with the mainland, unless it's Feral Labs orientated. Of course, you're still new, so it will take some time before that fully sinks in." Alexa Drew Summers She frowned slightly, realizing that Lauren was right once again. She had contemplated ways of getting home, but the only way to get on seemed to be from air, and the only way to get off would have to be by the same helicopter she arrived on. There was probably very little chance of her being able to get out to the landing pad, let alone sneak onto the helicopter while it was refueling or dropping off cargo/passengers. She'd probably be severely punished for even attempting such a feat. Lauren was right, but it would take a while for Alexa to completely forget her previous existence. Afterall, she was spoiled and living in the lap of luxury with her madam to keep her out of trouble back home. Now the dangers of life were becoming more and more real all the time. She couldn't pretend to be in control in this environment. Not really. She had nothing to control, probably not even her own life.
"I guess you're right..." she said finally, her eyes dropping for a moment in quiet contemplation before rising again. "Thanks for that, I think." She added. The playful attitude of the other was still weirding her out, but at least she was useful for information. That much Alexa liked about Lauren. Lauren Granger Lauren smiled, "You're welcome... I geuss." Well at least Alexa wasn't running away or yelling in anger towards Lauren right now which is what usually happens. Lauren wasn't used to people being this passive about things. A part of her felt really bad about what Alexa was going through right now, she didn't envy her. "So... what was your life like back there?" She asked trying to make some small talk. Alexa Drew Summers Alexa's brain was a jumbled mess even if she came across as being completely focussed and down to earth. Of course, part of her art was to disguise her inner feelings from everyone. It was something she was actually proud of, more or less. She nearly missed the question Lauren asked as her brain was trying to sort through new information and formulate new plans and choices.
"Oh," she started, as if she was coming back into focus. "It was nice. I had a nice place and a sort of older sister to look out for me. Had everything I wanted..." She trailed off. Her speech was confident but her brain kept wandering back to the soft spot that was Maryke. It was long ago, far away, and definitely over for the lemur woman. Well, not definitely, but Alexa was certain it would never have a chance to come into fruition. It didn't matter now. Past was past, she'd have to forget about it just as she'd have to forget about the outside world. She wasn't a part of it anymore, it shouldn't be a part of her.

The Rare and Illusive Human (Continued)Lauren Granger She was being very vague, and Lauren was smart enough to realize it. Still Lauren let it slide. It didn't really matter anyway, it was gone. "Oh, well all gone now. Sorry, but you still have a nice place and everything you want. Just your older sister aint here." Or at least that was the assumption Lauren had made. "I... let's just say I wasn't so lucky back then but hell I've got it made now!" Alexa Drew Summers There was a glimmer of recognition in Alexa's eye at the mention of the older sister. She didn't think Lauren would catch it, since it was breif and probably hard to detect even to those who knew her well. "It's nice that they take care of us so well." She said, rather impersonally. She considered telling Lauren that Maryke was that person, and they were both going to hell in a handbasket now, but she bit her tongue on the subject. Something made her want to keep it a secret.
However, it didn't mean she couldn't ask. "Do you know anything of a Mr. Woodrow and his relationship to Maryke?" She was curious to see if the insider information could get her somewhere in this sticky situation. Finding someone close to the inside was lucky for her. Maybe she'd uncover some secret which made Alexa's presence on the island so crucial. Lauren Granger Alexa, wasn't so lucky when asking Lauren. She happened to have heard of Billy a few times, he was infamous, but only once attached to the last name Woodrow. She had also, never met Maryke, "Woodrow... sounds familiar but I've never heard of Maryke." She replied shaking her head and then giveing Alexa a rather puzzled look. "Why do you want to know?" She couldn't have had many friends on the island, being there for less than a couple of weeks. "Friends of yours?" Alexa Drew Summers "You might say that." She said with a bite of bitterness. "I think he's some sort of sea creature, I just don't have a first name or a residence." Of course her reasons for knowing these things would not be revealed. She was slowly shifting from being caught off guard to being at the top of the game again, just fishing for more pieces to the puzzle. She watched her, hopefully, that more information might spark a memory or some sort of other trigger. Anything would do. Lauren Granger "Did you look at the duplex listings?" Lauren asked "That might help you find what you are looking for." How could a friend only know the last name of someone. "You're not friends with this Woodrow are you? You don't even know him... So why do you wanna know where he lives?" Alexa had peaked Lauren's curiousity now. Running from the FBI, living in comfortable places and trying to find people she only knew the last name of... "Are you in the Mafia or something?" Lauren asked suddenly. Not that she cared it just seemed to fit. "You don't seem like a gangster." Alexa Drew Summers "Oh..." She didn't remember there were duplex listings. She'd have to check those. "No, not the Mafia, I just have a question to ask him." Awkward. "I should get going. I've got people to meet..." A blatant lie, but the best she could do. "Thanks for the chat!" And with that, she scurried off towards the beach, eager to get away from the people she just kept happening to discover. Lauren Granger "Oh... alright goodluck then." She said as the girl went trailing off. She suddenly seemed quick to get away from Lauren, right after she mentioned the mafia thing. Maybe she was and didn't want anyone to know? Well regardless if she did or not someone was going to find out here and it really wouldn't matter one way or the other. Lauren shrugged the whole thing off and continued towards her filming for the day.
