Sadly we have some major idiots in our band who like to test our director.
They're all failing. =)

I've never understood why people chew gum during band.
I'm in the top band, and we've all thankfully realized its bad to chew gum during band and that the powers of the BD will find you if you do. For some reason only the percussionists still chew gum.

We don't have much of a gum problem, because there's only nine of us and we just came from lunch, so we won't be eating anything. My friend got caught with gum while she was playing her flute...as to quote our percussionist, "How is that even possible?!" xd
I don't like gum, so I don't have that problem. But even if I liked gum, I'd never chew it in band. Ruins your instrument.

I've never chewed gum and played at the same time, it makes it harder for me to play my instrument. I'm also just in the habit of throwing out my gum when I walk in the band room.
The only thing I've ever seen my BD do about someone chewing gum is tell him to spit the gum out, nothing big.

We don't really get in trouble. If someone in our band is seen chewing gum or eating candy they have to throw it out. There are like fifty signs in the band room that say "No Gum, Food, Candy, or Drinks in the Bandroom."

Our BD never has to tell anyone to spit out gum. Either that or she's blind. But she gets really ticked whenever someone brings a drink into the bandhall.

not really. i mean, first of all, our band doesn't really have that much of a gum problem to begin with (both because we dont' chew gum in the band hall most of the time and we're really good at hiding it most of the times that we do). second of all, when the directors tell us to spit it out, people either throw it away or swallow it. i guess if there was a penalty for it it would be getting written up or detention or something, but it's never really gotten to the point of threats so...

nope. our percussion section is way in the back of the room and our teacher can't see that far away...it really doesn't matter since it can't hurt our instruments. well... unless it drops on a drum and sticks there ><

Wolfish Beauty In my band, if you get caught chewing gum, it's an automatic 50 push-ups! And your not allowed to do the girl kind either....which sucks... xp That is so harsh! At my school, all the band directors make you do is throw out your gum. In front of the class. Not that I ever chew in band class... What?! I don't! wink
