His expression grew serious for a moment and he shrugged, lifting his eyes to wander the crowd. "People are superficial. They expect things of you. They expect you to fit certain rolls, and when you don't they think less of you. People will always find something to criticize." He shrugged once more, as is if brushing off the subject. "Personal vendettas."

"Harpers are Harpers, we have the same thing. Dragonriders have a list of expectations that change daily depending on what people need. We're also invincible, heroic, lerger-than-life." He shrugged, "I think I understand. But if they're personal do they extend to anyone you meet? I'm more at home with Harpers than I am with other riders right now, and I don't know if that's because I made it all the way to journyman before I was Searched or if it's because it's in the family. I haven't spent much time with...well, many dragonriders other than...you know." He waved a hand.

"Despite the fact I talk...at length...I wouldn't mind listening if you wanted to take a turn."

"It's not everyone," he quickly assured T'bell, looking up. "I mean no offense. And really, I shouldn't bothered by it, especially now that Siv and I have made Wingsecond." He paused to take a sip of his wine, smirking faintly at the thought. "But it was a long road getting here. And since coming to the weyr, I haven't had much trust to offer anyone. Coming from the Beasthold, standing two Hatchings without Impressing... There weren't high hopes for the pair of us, let me tell you." He laughed.

"Makes no sense..." He shrugged away any offense, he hadn't taken it. "I mean, Siventh was your dragon. He's a pretty good dragon by anyone's standards. You couldn't have Impressed any other dragon until Siventh's egg came about...at least that's how I've always thought of it?" He shrugged and sipped at his wine.

"And I don't see how a Beasthold being your home Hold changes anything, but Harpers are supposed to be more diplomatic than some others...so that might just be how I was raised. The merit of a person isn't in where they're from or who their parents were or even how long they took to Impress. It's what they do, how they do it, and only occasionally whether or not they succeed but more often how they deal with the success or failure. I don't see anything more wrong with a Beasthold than a Healer's Hall or a Weaver's Hall..." He pointed at the brownrider, "Besides, as you said: you're wingsecond. You have Siventh. You haven't done anything infamous enough to make the entire Weyr know your face...mostly people just remark when you leave your weyr." He smiled, "So whatever these people have said doesn't seem very well supported. But that's just my opinion."

The brownrider smiled, tipping his wine glass towards T'bell in thanks. "That's the impression I've been striving for, thank you. Unfortunately, not many people are as unbiased as Harpers, but now I am Wingsecond K'rel of Brown Siventh, and they have no reason to look down on me for..anything." Chuckling softly, he drained the last of his glass. "Old habits die hard."

"I can attest to that. They do..." He smirked at K'rels' ease with the wine. "For other people as well as yourself. I'm a bit of a hypocrit in that area, of course. We'll just not point that out." He grinned and raised an eyebrow at him. "So are we to visit other places? I don't think I've spontaneously cured your dislike of crowds, what with my philosophising."

"How well I know." K'rel grinned with mock-innocence, then craned his head to peer about the room, shrugging. "We've got an entire wineskin to ourselves, this room is smothering me, and the night is still young. I'll let you pick the destination."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 6:52 pm

"Oh no you don't." He wagged a finger at him. "I'm perfectly happy to stay here or simply follow you along until you tip over like a sun-roasted wherry. Either way I'm amused, and if I can wrestle that wineskin from you I'll at least get a drink." He grinned, "You had a destination in mind, so off you lead oh great Wingsecond K'rel, rider of brown Siventh."

"I can handle...at least three more glasses," K'rel decided, eyeing his empty glass thoughtfully. "Which means that I'll probably pass out byt the time I've drained half of this skin or so, so you're welcome to the other half. You won't have to wrestle at all." Shaking his head, he waved his glass in the vague direction of the door. "No where at all. If you weren't here I would be cowering with Arina by now. So unless you decide otherwise, that's where I'm going, and I doubt she'd like the alcohol on my breath."

"Oh why do you have to be difficult?" He nudged him with an elbow, "At least give me some choices? I don't know if passing out in the stables would do you too well..." He looked at him out of the corner of his eye, "Are you intent on drinking yourself stupid?"

"The world is available, T'bell. Do I really have to give you specific choices?" He cocked an eye at the greenrider, meanwhile pouring himself a fresh glass. "Anywhere our dragons can reach, and perhaps a few places that they can't. Now you narrow it down." After taking a small sip of the wine, he shook his head. "Only if you can't persuade me not to."

"Vague. Let me think for a moment. We can always go back to one weyr or the other to get away from people...but the heights, up on top of the cliff, would probably be empty as well. The whers could use the run, they're awake."

He huffed and made an attempt to snatch the wineskin. "You don't need to be getting stupid drunk, just tipsy...enough to loosen you up but not to get your strings so unstrung that you fall over, silly brown."

"The view from the heights would be nice," K'rel admitted, glancing up as if expecting to see said view already. "And we might see a few of the Ghosts. Grinning, he snatched his hand back in time to avoid T'bell reaching the wineskin, but soon simply passed it towards the greenrider with a shrug. "And I'm already to that point, I think. Where's the fun in that? You can't honestly expect me not to drink any more wine for the rest of the night."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 7:59 pm

T'bell took the wineskin and stuck out his tongue. "Then you stay here for a few minutes, I'll be right back."

With that he disappeared into the crowd and back towards the table bearing the food. He tossed a bite-sized thing in the air for FLute, who eagerly swooped down to get it, and fed the sleepy Zephyr another treat before gathering his selection. A bit more on his stomach would at least make K'rel less likely to fall over if he drank much more.

The brownrider looked slightly put out to see T'bell heading back for the tables, but obediantly remained where he was, standing sulkily against the wall until he found himself being unexpectedly swept for the dance floor. He frowned only briefly at the interruption, but soon mustered a somewhat awkward smile for the woman who had kidnapped him, lapsing into the steps with surprising ease while hoping T'bell didn't manage to spot him.
