RP with the twins
Kendall twitched, fidgeted, and then tried to manuever his fighter out of the deathhold without much success. Dammit, where the HELL had she learned to play Mortal Kombat?? Last he checked she was too busy doing...girl things. Whatever those were.
But this was just humiliating and he couldn't stand it. Video games were his realm. His world. He hesitated a moment more, and then his hand shot out to the side at Raven's unguarded left side, tickling mercilessly, his right hand keeping a grip on the controller.
The girl let out a shriek, dropping her controller, which sent her character right into Kendall's hands. "a*****e!" she yelled, kicking at him with one foot as she scrambled to get the controller back. She would have yelled for her mother, but Karma was out shopping. Instead, she relied on the only other adult in the place.
"TALON!! Doll-boy's cheating!"
If Raven's voice could have taken on a physical form, it would have been actively humping Talon's spinal cord as he cringed at the shriek and the follow-up tattle from where he was sitting on the couch staring ponderously at the ring he'd bought...or rather, that Meka had floated him a loan for.
He looked up with resent in his eyes as the TV reported "FINISH HIM" at the two squabbling foxcoons. Why the hell were they involving HIM? He didn't give a s**t...he just lived there. Laying his ears back, he opted to ignore it. Or try to.
"Yeah but I'm not KICKING you!" Kendall retorted, having taken the brief opportunity to beat the everloving hell out of Scorpion as she grabbed for her controller as his sister's foot met his thigh. He responded with a shove.
"YOU started it!" she yelled, chucking the controller at him as the screen proudly displayed her defeat. The foxcoon growled faintly, getting that look in her eye that most people saw in her parents a moment before furry hell descended upon them. A second later, she launched, tackling her slightly larger twin and proceeded to ball up one fist as she brought it back to slug him.
Kendall grabbed her arm to hold off the punch, but unfortunately, though he was slightly larger, he wasn't much stronger, being the video game geek that he was. Holding it off was ALL he could do. He was still pounced and they were still locked in a fighter's grapple. So he did about all he could do in their situation and rolled, thrashing and kicking as he went.
"Its just a friggin' VIDEO GAME, coonass!" he yelled back. "Its not like I tore the head off your stupid bear or anything!"
Now that BOTH of them were yelling, Talon's head began to ache as he glared at the twins. His string of patience was thin and delicate to begin with, and recent events had frayed it miserably. If one were listening, they might have heard a small unimportant pop as it broke.
"Will you both shut up?!?" he snarled, fingers clenching around the little box the ring had come in until the tiny hinge creaked. "Or at least take it outside? I have enough to worry about without having to listen to a bitchfest over who cheated who over a ******** video game!"
Raven sat up from where she was sitting on her brother's chest and stuck her tongue out at Talon. "Kettle you is one black motha..."
She wisely stopped before finishing that particular rhetoric, knowing full well this would be the moment her mother chose to come walking in. "You do the same thing with Meka when he's kicking your tail across the screen. I could hear you yelling all the way to my house the other day."
"Yeah, Talon..." Kendall chimed in. "Who died and made YOU El Presidente?" For the moment, the fight seemed to be abandoned in the greater interest of ganging up on someone who deserved it more. His eyes twinkled mischieviously and he grinned.
"Mom said on the phone the other night that you're lucky you've got Yeande to hold your hand through taking care of the baby, cuz otherwise she said if you were supposed to raise it on your own, you should just put it in a cannon and fire it over Texas where maybe a drunken minor would take pity on it. Cuz then at least it would have a fighting chance."
Talon stared down the two hellspawn in front of him, malice glittering in his green eyes at the insult. He wasn't interested in debating, he wanted it quiet.
"Your mother also doesn't know when to shut up." he pointed out. "Every time she opens her mouth, all of her guts fall out." Saying so, he slouched against the couch, moving to stuff the ringbox back into his pocket. He should just give it up...at this rate he was never going to find the nerve or opportunity to do what he knew full well he needed to.
At that, Raven's gaze narrowed and a low growl came from her throat. It was difficult to imagine a young girl in a floor-length skirt and white top starting a fight with someone... unless that girl was Raven. her fists balled up then, and she moved to shift her weight to the balls of her feet.
"Don't you dare talk about my mother like that," she snarled, springing at the ijiuo... only to land in a heap on the floor when Kendall grabbed hold of her tail and hauled her back.
"Easy." he told her, rolling his eyes as he let Raven's tail go. "Mom says worse about him all the time. Its like a game to them anymore." It was, really. Talon and Karma simply couldn't be in the same room without an argument breaking out over something that usually resulted in Talon storming out of the room in a huff of frustrated offense.
It had been like that for as long as he could remember, really.
"And besides, he's just acting like that because he's too chickenguts to go give Yeande that dumb ring he bought." he added with a shrug.
"Yeah," she muttered, dropping down beside him and crossing her arms over her chest. She let go of anger easily enough, much UNlike her father. The grin returned then, Raven tilting her head to the side. "Soo... when ARE you going to ask her? Or are you going to sit there staring at that box til after the baby's born?"
The tail whipcracked against the right arm of the couch as his eyes shifted from Raven to Kendall and then back again. They were munchkinized versions of their parents and he hated it.
The hand disappeared into his pocket again to take out his sunglasses and put them on, a surefire sign of his getting uncomfortable...it was such an absent gesture to him anymore, he was unaware he was even doing it. Once they'd been adjusted to his liking, he answered.
"I'll ask her." he assured Raven curtly. "Once I find the right time."
"Yeah right..." Kendall chuckled. "What're you gonna do, then? Ask her in her sleep and tell her she said yes when she woke up? That'll be the only way. You come crawling back in here and hide in your room every time she LOOKS at you angry, wuss."
Kendall didn't let go of his anger quite so easily as Raven, but instead of getting violent with it, he channelled it into good-natured smartassery...something he picked up from his mother. That and Talon was someone he didn't mind antagonizing because it never made him feel guilty. The ijiuo was almost always unpleasant and nasty to him anyway.
Raven just grinned, winding her arms around her legs and watching Talon. "Yeah... or ask her when she's taking a bath and underwater... then you can say the bubbles formed the word 'yes' when they came to the surface."
Talon inhaled to reply and then simply shook his head and squeezed his eyes closed as though trying to block out their existance. The thing was, there WAS no right moment. There were too many people around constantly, for one...and he didn't want an audience for this. For another, Yeande wasn't exactly taking the pregnancy in stride.
The last few times he'd visited her, she'd taken every opportunity possible to look at herself in every mirror or reflective surface she could find, stand in-profile, stare at her belly, and sigh. He'd ask what was wrong, and then she'd get nasty and tell him he knew damn well what was wrong. Then came the cold shoulder. Which was why he'd come slinking home more often than not lately.
"So how much longer's dad gonna be gone with Omi?" Kendall asked, turning to Raven and abandoning Talon entirely for the moment. He wasn't intentionally trying to give the ijiuo a hint, so much as was just curious. It seemed like they'd been gone forever as it was...time went slowly when you were an eight-year-old.
"Who knows." Raven shrugged and turned back to the game, restarting it before Kendall could grab his controller. Turnabout WAS fair play, after all. "He said he was buying her bedroom furniture and new clothes. Have you ever seen a gay guy on a shopping spree? It could be hours."
"Hey...!" he complained, rushing to the system. Too late, his victory was gone. Pfft....oh well. They both knew it had been there and that was all that was important. He retorted by turning the thing off entirely, opening the compartment, and taking Mortal Kombat out to root for another game to play in his ever-growing stack of them.
Talon's ear twitched slightly at the conversation, even if he HAD been making a valiant attempt at ignoring the twins. The implication, however, was not lost on him...had Yeande gone with them? They hadn't said...maybe they didn't know.
Or maybe... he thought that means you can catch her alone for once
He sat there, debating this for a long moment. It was worth a shot, he concluded. The worst she could do was tell him to get lost. Rising from the couch, he padded quietly out of the room, not giving Raven or Kendall a second look as he went.
But this was just humiliating and he couldn't stand it. Video games were his realm. His world. He hesitated a moment more, and then his hand shot out to the side at Raven's unguarded left side, tickling mercilessly, his right hand keeping a grip on the controller.
