They're so frickin awesome...they don't need a genre! They're their own style or whatever. Why do you need to classify it?

seiriossanguis i think they are punk/pop with just a tad bit of emo bump.. she is so right... they sing about sad stuff which sometimes makes me cry

I think they were a little more hard core back in Dookie and Insomatic, it sounds wierd- but the lyrics to amrican idot doesnt really match up with the music. rage and love? whatever happened to "im on a mission i've made my decision to lead a path of self distruction" ?

If you ask me (not that you did thats just how I chose to start my sentence) They're, in general, punk rock. Though some of their songs sound more punk, some sound pop, some sound rock.

I think in dookie and isomaniac they were young punks (punk rock). Now I think there going for a lil more ..... pop because thats wat (some) kids wanna hear

i have a friend.. well... not really a friend so much as person I hang out with who thinks they are the most hardcore punk band ever (she dosen't get out much), so she thinks that because she listens to them that she is the most hardcore punk there ever was.
I laugh at her
But yeah, I wouldn't classify them, but they did start off more to the punk side of things, but that's just my opinion.
