He waved away her apology, summoning a smile from somewhere for the girl's benefit. "Pardon me for sulkin'." Unless somethign miraculous happened, his future was set. He didn't need to go unloading his worries on the little normie, especially when she could very well end up in the same situation he now found himself in.
"It's surprisingly easy t' forget what's coming," he admitted thoughtfully. Yes, his leg was a constant reminder that he had changed, but it wasn't often that it really sunk into his mind that he would be changing further. It was one thing to say it in passing, another entirely to acknwledge and accept what those words meant. Now that he thought about it, it had been...a good few months since his last transformation. How far away was the next?
Choosing to deter from the topic, he pushed the thoughts of his next change from his mind and glanced towards her once more. "So, obviously you've met a person or two before talkin' with me, eh? Mind if I ask who?"

Rachel tried to smile back at him, shrugging. "It's ok. You have every right to. I would expect that I'll be doing that at least once in a while after..." she trailed off, knowing she didn't need to finish the sentence.
"I suppose I might forget..." Rachel said thoughtfully, but didn't really sound sure of herself. It seemed impossible to forget something like that. Maybe she would? But it still would be a painful and unwelcome surprise when it did occur. It sounded to her like she needed to call the labs more than ever, just to find out some things and maybe give herself some peace of mind.
When Thom asked Rachel who she'd met thusfar, she tilted her head to the side, thinking. She'd met quite a few people in the past few days, not all of them pleasant. She racked her brain to remember their names before responding, wishing her memory was better than it had seemed to be of late.
"Um...I think the names of the people I've met so far are Lucas, Tommy, Emelyn?, Camile or Kamilla or something, and Awen....oh...and yesterday I met this horrible man-woman...thing. I didn't learn his name. But I hope I never run into him again."

The list of names surprising him, partially because she had met so many, and partially because most of them he hadn't. He knew there were a good seventy-something people on the island by now, but really... How did so many go unnoticed? He could probably list about twenty or so, and most of them only by name. "I'm afraid of those, I've only met Emelyn. But I 'aven't been terribly social since I've arrived, 'ad a bit of a run in with a big group shortly after I got 'ere, so per'aps you'll 'ave better luck gettin' to know everyone."

"Maybe....But you're the only one I've talked to for any length of time...I'm surprised that I was able to remember their names as well as I did.. And honestly...I'm not terribly social myself. I'm surprised we've talked as long as we have." She looked at him a slight smile on her face. "But I'm glad to have found someone here that I can actually call a friend."

He raised a brow, watching her for a moment longer before replying with a shrug and returning his eyes forward. "We 'ave been talkin' for a while, 'aven't we? Odd, that. People tend t' be sick of me by now." Thom flashed a grin to show he was joking, even as the first buildings of the village came into sight through the trees ahead. "Somethin' about tropical islands an' far-too-young women, I expect. If you need anythin', give me a shout. Duplex 46," he reminded her, nodding.

Rachel nodded and smiled back. "Yeah, ok. And thanks Thom for talking with me and letting me in on some of the stuff I didnt' know. I had fun. We'll have to hang out again sometime? Maybe you can bring Natsumi with you?"

"Happy to," he replied brightly, waving aside her thanks. "We shall indeed! I'll try an' drag Natsumi along, if it 'appens t' work out that way. Per'aps we can get together soon to work on th' gymnastics set up an' such? I'll bring up th' idea with Natsumi later today. I'm sure she'll be interested in helpin'."

"Sounds good," Rachel said, smiling, and started walking away, towards her duplex. She turned her head back to look at him and gave a wave.

He sent her a wave in goodbye, then continued towards his own duplex--with the intention of waiting safetly out of sight of the doorway until Natsumi could join him to go inside.
