Here, Here [XxGuardianDevilxX].

what you say is true. Ive taken Judo for a while, and its almost entirely defensive, or how to defend yourself if attacked.
But i must say that there are some dojos that do teach purely offensive moves, like a nin-po ninjutsu dojo, my friend is in one, its for ninja hand-to-hand and weapons training. (Might have gotten the name a little wrong)
Damn shout border isn't working stressed .
If you have the imagination, you can use a defensive Martial Art offensively, and Vice-Versa. Note: when I say this I am, in NO WAY saying that take your defensive Martial Art and jump someone. Fight when provoked [Not "He threw a paper ball at me eek !!!!!!" provoke. I'm talking serious provoke sweatdrop ].
My posts look so plain without it gonk .

Well I used to go to Karate for 2 years and such....And I do agree with the statement that Martial Arts makes people more enlightened. If it wasn't for Martial Arts, I would never had been able to defend my self; or I would never be so relaxed and calm like I am now.

Martial Arts in my opinion, should be used to defend yourself and not like how the movie actors who fight like every scene. But also fighting is sometimes good when it comes to competition. The reason why I say this is because, when I took a Karate Contest. I realized that I got my a** whooped. (Yes, I was bad).

I definatly agree with your topic. Martial arts is something to learn and strength a person. As far as I know it isnt suppose to be used to start fights. My brother is a TKD teacher going on his 2nd degree black belt and if he gets caught ever starting a fight he can have it pulled. So he tells me... Personally I think its something I look forward to getting my son into once hes old enough. Self defense never hurt anyone.

In most cases it should be defensive. Like I mentioned earlier, sometimes it just has to be done. So yeah. Fighting: it can give you the biggest adrenaline rush [or better], or it can give you huge a** bruises [or worse].

I have never heard anyone say that Martial Arts causes fights.

But still that would be incorrect. Martial Arts, is pretty much self defense. Or at least that is what it is intended to be used as.

I went to my friends karate class once, and now I know what to do if someone ever tries to choke me, haha.

/It's just a phase/

I just started taking karate and I love it.

I didn't join with the idea of learning self-defense; I more wanted a hobby that was a good workout and fun. I like individual sports as much as team sports because I love pushing myself. I do, however, feel a bit safer knowing that I could defend myself if I ever needed to.

Regardless of martial arts knowledge, the people who are going to start fights are probably going to start fights. In fact, I think that martial arts would probably prevent the fighting types from fighting; if they really wanted to excel in their sport, they would take advice from their teachers and hopefully learn that starting fights is not a good thing.

The school I am in does have a day for sparring. However, sparring is conducted in a manner that is fairly controlled, and it can even be a bit lighthearted, with opponents joking with each other even during the match. As with all sports, accidents happen. I can think of many other sports that are more violent and chaotic than martial arts.

I think that martial arts are not only a form of self-defense and exercise. They truly are an art form, one that I've often likened to a dance. Sure enough, those who do well in dance seem to do well in martial arts as well.

And that's what I think. 3nodding

Haha. That is so funny to me. I have quite a few friends who are in karate, and they are all in dance too. And they are good at both. Just thought it was funny that I had never drawn that connection before...

Hence it being called "Martial Arts".

Same in my place. We can go as lighthearted as we want in the ring, as long as it still stays interesting in there, to as ferocious as broken ribs and stuff. There has been lot's of injurys there. Not because of something the teacher did, it's because of the people in there, taking it to an un-neccessary level. Or in another case, one guy not taking it easy on another, etc.

This all [or most of it; sometimes it's just unexpected] happened in un-supervised fights. Now it's either that the teacher watches all fights, or one of the more experienced people there [*cough* Like me *cough*] watch.

We had a supposed broken toe a little while ago.

But the girl came back the next class, so I think she must've been fine. Or else really stubborn like me.

/It's just a phase/

A girl at my school who has been doing both karate and dance for a long time created her own kata. It was really impressive. I had no idea that she created it until my instructor told the rest of the class.

It takes a lot of imagination to do that. I mean anyone can just burst out in a series of random moves, but making your own kata......that's impressive 3nodding .
