Keithing Nios The pride parade for where I live is this Sunday but I'm busy. I did kind of want to go despite my bad experiences in the past. What kind of bad experiences are we talking about? Well last year I went to pride day with some "friends." At first it was all fun as we ran under a huge gay pride flag in the parade. Later my friends and I went back to a cafe that was set up for GLBT people to celebrate or something. I felt really uncomfortable around all these gay people because they treated me differently. Because I wasn't attracted to girls I was obviously a heterosexual and shouldn't be celebrating pride day. There's always a fear of gay bashers being out on the street. Many of the people in the cafe spoke about going out straight bashing, in jest of course. But they said it in such a way while looking right at me. It made me feel so out of place. My "friends" ignored me completely. A girl I was with brought a really annoying lesbian home with us. She'd never met her before but because she was gay she must be cool. [My friend is an idiot by the way. I am no longer friends with her.] Now obviously this girl whom we just met was not annoying because she was a lesbian. She was annoying because she talked all night long about bubbles and stupid things. The three of us had to share a bed and they kept me up all night talking about rubbish and I was exhausted. She woke me up in the morning by jumping on me saying I was being lazy even though I'd just gotten to sleep. I was cranky so I didn't talk much. She yelled at me for being quiet. Later I was talking to a friend of mine and she threw a rock at my head saying I was talking too much. I swear she was crazy. Over the next few days she introduced us to her friends. Most of them were crossdressers. I'd never really met any before so I found the drag shows interesting. Then this one guy started following us around and being really annoying. Everyone I was with turned on me and teased me for being "straight." I knew I wasn't straight I just wasn't sure what I was. A lot of other things happened that week too. I have nothing against GLBT people as most of my friends are in one of those "groups." I just have a grudge against the gay day because that's when ignorance is at an all time high for all human beings apparently. I'm sorry that was more of a rant than an explanation, I just needed to get it off my chest. My point is Nios I just have a grudge against the gay day because that's when ignorance is at an all time high for all human beings apparently.

Completely understandable. I would have just got up and left. Never become friends, or be duped into being in close quarters, with anyone just because of one thing about them that you, or who you're with, can relate to. I mean, it's a good starting point, but if you don't find something else to talk about, or otherwise feel comfortable it's best to say your goodbyes and ship out.
I'm sorry to hear that it ruined your experience, but that shouldn't stop you from trying again. It doesn't seem like you wanted to go where you were, and if they weren't welcoming, shame on them for even believing for a second that they were accepting of diversity. Plus, if there's anything I've learned about the GLBT, it's that most of us are average schmos, and aren't really that into the scenes, even if their significant other or a friend or two are. They're there because they know someone who knows someone, not because they know every person up and down the street. They're probably just as scared that there's someone new on the block.

Aye I'm going to make sure it won't ruin my idea of the day. Bad experiences come in all forms. I can handle it. Through all of the bad experiences I have found my real friends.

They are quite fun but sometimes I have the hardest time conveying sarcasm in other threads like not even mean sarcasm, just generic funny stuff. **le sigh**

Yeah I wouldn't worry to much Seraphice I also have a major problem with conveying my thoughts on the Internet. People tend to think I'm angry or mean because I don't use emoticons often. Even on msn my friend's say I act too serious. It's all in the way you type.

Emoticons should come with a warning. "Overexposure may result in reactions of child-like joy, apoplectic fits, or, in some cases, cause to be attacked at anime conventions. Please use sparingly and at your own risk."
