Hissing again, the beast jumped again, this time landing on the same tree as Kane, it's tail whipping around, then slamming down at him.

It looked to be like a mix between a very large jungle cat and box of sawblades.

"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL?!?" Kane exclaimed, uncharacteristically flailing as he leapt back from the strange beast with all the speed he could muster. His eyes were wide with genuine surprise as he took in the odd creature before him now that it had emerged from the shadows. What in all Telrunya...?

He hissed as the blade nicked his arm, raised defensively. The creature's tail hit the limb he was standing on and splinters of wood flew like explosive shrapnel. A couple shards planted themselves in his arm and legs, but it wasn't enough to slow him down...even if it hurt like hell. He'd worry about them later after he'd done something about his attacker.

"Dammit! What the hell are you?" Kane snarled, his vocabulary deteriorating quickly as the fight escalated. If he'd thought the primate thing was warped, then this creature was a pure bastardization of any normal beast.

Blood dripped from the shallow slice on his arm to the muck below, but Kane's attention was on the branch and it's structural integrity...quickly decreasing, aided by the demon's weight. Cursing softly, his eyes darted about for some escape route. 'Gotta' get out of here. Get somewhere I can fight better. I can't...'

His thoughts were interrupted by a loud cracking sound. Damn. Leaping blindly to the side as the limb gave way, Kane hit the overhanging limb of the next tree roughly, awkwardly scrambling to secure a hold. He was hanging by his arms only and trying to get up on the branch as the previous limb sunk into the muck with a sickening slurp.

Scrambling onto the limb without dignity, he shot a glance back at his foe before thinking about his next move. Another branch? Another tree? Fight? Run? What to do...? His vision was darkening at the edges and his head was starting to hurt...though he barely noticed, distracted by the rarely heard-of occurrence.

A true fight for his life.

Tartara
Amara was not so concerned about him disturbing them as...he seeing that they were togeather. She'd much prefer if her association with seraphim was kept quiet, have as least amount of eyes notice them as possible. Because as soon as they noticed...she would have to get rid of him. The fae glided easily back to the spot after a while, making sure that the other had passed with her vision. She streached. What a nuisance

Seraphim had kept close by, waiting for Amara to return. When he saw her back in the area he came back down, "I don't think he cared..." Phim muttered to himself, taking care not to get stuck in the mud.

((Sorry didn't see it XD))

The creature hissed and shook it's glittering mane, it's sharp tail thrashing above it's head ready to strike, again. It bared it's teeth, exposing long fangs dripping with venom.

It lunged again, leaping for the branch that Kane was on, maw open ready to strike.

Curses streaming under his breath, Kane leapt for the nearest branch in another tree. Every move he made was matched by the creature. In fact, not only matched, but topped. Kane was used to being the hunter; not the prey. He found himself on the defensive for once...and he didn't like it at all. The predator in him was yowling in disapproval and discomfort.

That's it. Screw pride. It was time to worry about survival. Kane knew this wasn't a fight he could win, at least not easily, plus...he didn't like the look of what was dripping from those fangs. Time to run.

Maybe he was tempting fate...or the guardians...or whoever, but so be it. Turning in the direction he'd been headed when the beast had attacked, he took flight. If the beast had been sent to keep him from seeing something, then that just made him all the more determined to see it.

Wait....sent to stop him? For the first time, he considered the possibility that there could be another force manipulating this beast. Not a pleasant thought.

As he leap and bound through the trees, his claws and fangs grew sharper, his limbs lengthening as he neared the dark heart of the forest, his deadly foe so close behind he could taste him...

The creature was right on his tail, letting out an angry yowl as it's prey escaped it's initial lunge. hissing loudly, it's tail sycthed through a branch completely, caught it on one of the blades, then flung it at the escaping demon, only to have it shatter harmlessly on the tree next to it.

The red glowing eyes of another beast peered out from that tree, and it lept out, growling angry that it's rest had been distrubed, it lept to the branch that Kane had been jumping for. It was an identical creature as the one tailing Kane, the only difference was that it was just a few inches smaller.

'Shitshitshitshitshit...'

For the first time in his life, Kane wished he hadn't come into Dragnid alone. He could use a little back-up right now, for a distraction if nothing else. The first creature had been fast and aggressive enough to keep him on his toes on the defensive! He hadn't even had a chance to consider an attack of his own. Now...there were two of them? Dammit all to hell!

Were they mates? Protecting a nest or hunting ground? Maybe...but maybe not. Against his earlier decision, Kane decided it might be a better idea to retreat for now. He'd have to come back for further investigation later, if he could elude those creatures.

The rushing adrenaline was making his head pound and...wait a minute...damn...not again. Only too late, the demon realized the changes had begun again. He didn't have time to worry about the changes themselves, or even the pain, right now. The important thing was to get the hell out of here alive. He just had to stay in control of himself this time...fight the instincts, the internal voices...don't give in like before.

Already bounding on all-fours, the demon swung in a wide arc, curving away from the forest's dark heart and the secrets it held. 'I'll be back,' he swore quietly, leaping from branch to branch. Hands and feet turned to paws and he growled quietly, jaws clenched against the pain. Bones shifted, slowing him with momentary awkward clumsiness. Fortunately, though painful, the process was swift and he ducked another blade before bounding into the air again. The creatures were fast, but fortunately for Kane, so was the tiger. Their race through the canopy appeared more like a graceful, deadly dance. A couple of times, as the creatures neared, the tiger would raise a heavy furred paw and rake his claws through the air. He didn't aim...he didn't look to see if he connected...he tried only to distract them before taking the opportunity to leap away again.

He had one advantage over the creatures that he'd never contemplated before as a hunter. Not that he was overly fond of the idea. While they were racing to capture their prey, he was racing for his life. The thought gave one a certain adrenaline-fueled burst of speed...

The smaller one gave chase now, it moved after Kane, getting tagged, once and awhile by the claws, which it would then bite at, trying to land a venomsoaked bite into the demon-tiger as it moved though the trees.

It would give chase all the way to the edge of the forest, where it would stop when it ran out of trees.

Giving up on the half-hearted swipes, Kane focused every last drop of energy he had left on speed.

Run! Hurry! Get away!

Another first. Pure, primal fear was creeping into the tiger's mind. He was a tiger! He feared no other forest creature! Then again, these couldn't possibly be natural creatures of the forest. They were unholy beasts sent by some devilish force. They didn't follow the normal rules. So, neither did he. Just this once, he'd make an exception.

Fighting to keep the terror from overwhelming his own mind, Kane pushed his aching muscles to their limit. Strangely, as he was fleeing and not hunting prey this time, his mind and the tiger's seemed to be in agreement. He wasn't having the same issues he'd had last time with battling the instincts. Which was good, because that would have only been a distraction. Kane needed to focus, now more than ever.

The forest was growing slightly lighter as the bounding creatures neared the edge with supernatural speed. Kane had no concerns about where he was heading at this point, as long as it was far away from these beasts. He could smell water though...close...he picked up speed with the hope that he might actually make it out of this one alive. With the hellbeasts literally biting at his heels, he fled for the nearby beach, leaving stupid ideas of pride and dignity far behind.

The Creature stopped and standing on a the last tree that lead to the edge of the forest, lifting it's head it roared a loud victory cry, before turning around and bounding back into the forest.

---

Off to Amara's right, two large ravens landed on a branch, silent, staring at her and Seraphim.

Off to Seraphim's left, two more ravens land, likewise staring at the two Pae'il.

The light glinted off the beaks and talons, showing that they were razor sharp, and the eyes spoke of the hunger of a predator.

Kane took a flying leap from the last tree into the open air with no sign of hesitation. The blue tiger hit the sands of Pae'kippu Beach with a roll to minimize impact, paws under him with no loss of momentum. The victorious roar behind him sent chills racing up his spine and he only increased his speed, though he hadn't thought it possible.

Fortunately, his large tiger paws worked well for running across the loose beach sands. He poured his remaining energy into his escape, never bothering to look back to see that he wasn't being followed further.

Pushing through the pushes Nienna coughs as she looks around. She was pretty sure she had put enough distance between her and Cabel. She was crying inside that she left him. But her duties came first, and with the isle in this much chaos, she had to know why. Looking ahead she push her hair from her face as she watches the forest carefully.

She knew she had no control in here, this place was under another's control. Swallowing she closes her eyes for a moment just to get her courage back before moving on. She had to find the source, it was her only hope to knowing what happen.

She had to continue, opening her eyes she push through the bushes. She wasn't looking for anyone, she would let the pae'il do that. She wanted to know what happen in here, why the isle was screaming at her. Coughing again she had to stop to catch her breath. The air was too thick in here for her.

Wings fluttering she tries to think as to where she would be. She had to be close to the source. The closer she got, the worse she felt. Glancing back she was watching for a certain love of hers. She was hoping he hadn't seen her leave.

Turning back she continues on her quest.

"NIENNA!!!"

It was the last time Cabel dared call out for her as the dark forest's borders came into view. Dammit...he'd have to look for her on foot now. He'd rather not call down every beast in Dragnid on his head with his ignorant cries. He'd run across the Marsh at top speed, and still no sign of his love! She had really gotten a good headstart on him, thanks to the convenient distraction of reuniting with the brother he'd never met.

He sighed bitterly, jogging to a halt at the forest's edge. He really didn't want to go in there. He swore he'd never go in there in his life...but, at the same time, he'd never thought he'd ever find someone he'd want to spend the rest of his life with. He couldn't let her face this forest alone, despite what might await within. He took a deep breath, tightening his hold on his staff. He might need to think back...think back to his dream and his fight with his darker half...think back to childhood, and growing up with Kane...

As much as he hated the thought, he might have to draw on any knowledge he might have gained in his life about fighting.

Why, Nienna? Why would you run off like that? Don't you know you can't just leave me to leap into danger? I'd follow you to the ends of Telrunya and back, and if that means into the heart of Dragnid as well, then by the Guardians, I'll do it...

They were one...right? He swore he could still feel here, even though he knew she was nowhere near here. She was afraid...afraid and upset...and yet, still she left. He had to go to her.

Taking another deep breath to brace himself, he descended into the darkness of the forest to find his love.

Yellow eyes stalk Nienna as she moves through the forest. As she passes a large brush, a large clawed paw darts out of it sweeping at her legs from the side of the brush. It was teh size of a dinnerplate, with long sharp claws. Mottled fur ran all along the paw up to the bush.
