i wish i had some proper spare time, instead of just sitting here.
but i live in a small rural town which has little to offer, plus i'm on a low wage and many activities cost you money!

something i find appealing is just wandering around with a camera taking pics of whatever catches my eye. i see a lot of websites that are full of lovely shots that other people have taken, just of their daily life more often than not, and i really enjoy looking at them, little glimpses ito other people's lives 3nodding
but to do that i'd need a far better camera than the one i have one my phone, you can tell by the pic of my mouse that that's not very good quality sweatdrop but i would like an excuse to get myself off my butt and outside more 3nodding

Indeed. I have a proper camera myself, but it is so very slow! I truly need a new one. Of course, more often than not, I'm broke.

My favourite activity? Reading. The cost? Driving to the library and back. the downfalls? Fines! I'm terrible about getting them back on time!

Ha, I know what you mean. Last night I went to bed at 4am. Why? I just HAD to finish my book. No wonder I'm always so tired, eh?

Hey, Bolon? You said you're a native speaker of Spanish?

yes... You need help with something?

Well, for five years, I studied Spanish. Now, I'm finding my spanish speaking and writing abilities are going down the drain... Err... long, roundabout way of saying, could you recommend a good book? I've found that reading with a dictionary in hand goes a long way to get me back on track.

The unsuspecting public! Oh my! Please don't tell me you live in the midwest of the U.S. Otherwise, I may never go anywhere without trenchcoat, sunglasses and hat again! (And it does get so very hot here, hehe)

well... eragon it's a good book and I heard that the sequal just came out Eldest (Well here anyway) if you like fantasy. but you probably read them anyway. if you haven't read Da Vinci Code I recomend it
Jelly: jellysundae it's your main account or popetta?? Great outfit by the way. it's great.

I've actually read both Eragon and DaVinci code in English. It'd certainly be interesting to reread DaVinci code in Spanish though... Actually, I bet that would be perfect. I don't know why I haven't thought about looking up well-known books and see if they were written in multiple languages--then I'd at least know what was going on so that I could have an idea of what I was supposed to be reading! sweatdrop (Yes, my Spanish has degenerated quite a bit. Pero, que puedo decir? I have no idea if that's right... "But what can I say?" I'm now lol)

don't worry Drago! i live in England, so you can leave the trench-coat in the closet ninja

jelly is my main account, but i'm the most active mule cool

i've read Eragon and Eldest, both enjoyable books, even though it's very obvious that the author is rather young, i wish i was proficient enough in another language to be able to read foreign books, but being British i'm not redface
it's an embarrassing fact, but few Brits can speak any other languages, such an arrogant country, we seem to expect everyone else to learn English instead neutral
PostPosted: Sun Jan 28, 2007 12:04 pm

Ah! British! I love you! I have an American friend of mine who slips into a perfect English accent for absolutely no reason. Note, her family has been American since the Revolutionary War days. She has never visited England.... Yet some English bloke actually thought she was British.... I would love to move to England. Or Japan. but at least I can speak the language in England. I'm pretty sure America is going to hell in a handbasket. We're just... losing. It's so painful to see.

And if it helps on the language bit helps at all, I'm very rare in America. Most of us can say "hola" and that's it for our Spanish. I just took five years of Spanish. Now I'm trying to make myself semi-fluent (even though it'd be best if I went to Mexico or Spain or many countries in South America like Chile or Argentina...)

i did Spanish at school(long time ago now sweatdrop )only for 6 months though because we moved away.
i really enjoyed it, was very good at it too! British schools teach French as a default foreign language, usually from when you start secondary school aged 11. you then learn it for 3 years.when kids start their 4th year at secondary school they choose the final subjects they want to study, many choose to drop French then, i wanted to but my Mum wouldn't let me mad
But the way it's taught is dull, verbs and more verbs talk2hand
The Spanish i learned was more conversational, aimed at tourists. We learned to ask and give directions, to tell the time and various other things like that, one of the first phrases i remember learning was donde esta la playa cool got to get your priorities right blaugh but i never got to continue my spanish lessons sad
it's a shame, personally i'd have thought it would be more sensible to teach spanish in British schools rather than French. Surely far more countries speak a variation of Spanish than are French speaking?
In my opinion, British schools only started teaching French simply because it's the nearest 'proper' foreign country, as in outside of the British Isles. i suppose i should be grateful that they don't make us all learn Welsh eek
Here's a sentence in Welsh just so you understand what i'm getting at lol

Rydw' i'n dysgwr newydd o Gymraeg, ac rydw i'n gobeithio byddwch chi'n meddwch y croeseiriau hwn.

i've no idea what it says though!
