"I know exactly how you feel. My Mum was the most beautiful woman I knew. Once, right before she got sick, and told her how jealous I was of her good looks, and how I would never be as beautiful as her. She told me I was pretty, and that was good, but that I haven't grown into my beautiful skin yet. She showed me pictures of when I was a baby and how my skin was all wrinkly, ya know? So she said that was my beautiful skin, and that I'm still growing into it. "Of course, I knew it was all just to make me feel better and wasn't true...but it did help."

"I've always been a type of trouble maker." Emily laughed slightly at the memories. "When I would get in trouble I would always go to him. Sure I would get in trouble with him, but not as much as if I had gone to my mum. He always seemed to understand so much better."

Sunrise reached into her bag and pulled out a boook to start reading. It was White Oleander by Janet Fitch, and one of her mother's old favorites. She opened the cover and a picture fell out of it. "Emily, look," Sunrise said in a hushed voice, leaning down to pick up the photo. "It's me and Mum. I've read this book four times since she died, and I've never seen it before."
(I love that book))

"That's odd." Emily looked at it and smiled. "She was really pretty Sun."

"Yeah..." Sunrise said faintly. If anything, this made her think of her dad. "Dad loved her so much. Of course, that's probably why he gave the term 'insane with grief,' a whole new meaning.

"I can see that." Emily smiled. "You have to learn to let go Sun. Just remember that she is always in your heart. Do you mind if I ask how she died?"

"Breast Cancer. She fought like hell, but she got so tired at the end.... Cancer has a smell, did you know that? Well, maybe it's more subconscious than anything. But...cancer has such a horrifyingly terrible stench...it's nothing you could ever imagine in your life." Sunrise wiped her eyes furiously again, feeling her resolve weakening with every word. "I was only ten...I didn't even know what my period was until I had my first one at thirteen and had to ask Madam Pomfrey if I was dying."

"Hey, don't laugh at me! I'm scary and damaged," Sunrise said, faking a pout and crossing her arms in fron of her chest.

Emily looked sideways as she thought about it. "No, what are you talking about Sun?"
(Sorry, Emily is really blonde. You should know that better than anyone.)

"Omigod, you are annoying!" Sunrise said even though she never did mean it. "Scary and damaged is a term from a TV show I used to watch called Grey's Anatomy." ((Yes I know this is "Harry Potter" time and Grey's didn't come out until recently)) "They called Grey scary and damaged cuz her past kinda sucked."

(Don't worry about it. This doesn't have a set time period.)
"Oh, I see." Emily nodded in understanding. "Well then I guess I'm scary and damaged as well."
