Perhaps they're trying to get the manga so far ahead so there is no chance that there will never be a seconf filler series, like a lesser of two evils type thing, but the manga is pretty far ahead, there's the whole rescue Gaara arc, then the get Sasuke back arc part 2, then Naruto finishing Resengan, then Asuma dying and all that stuff with Akatsuki...so yeah lotsa s**t.
And if you watch the newest ending theme, it shows Naruto in his time skip outfit...so I wouldn't worry much, there is a light at the end of the bleak filler tunnel.

But by now there must be a reason for them to exist,
Maybe their doing it so they can have like a Huge marathon, or so they can make alot of the timeskip before they start it.
