Jiinae entered the area at a trot, slightly out of breath from her hurry to reach the gather. It figures that she would oversleep and end up being one of the last to arrive, but at least she had made it. Skyler had not the scense to wake her despite all the excitement. Sometime's the flit's concern for her wellbeing annoyed her, even if she had needed the extra rest.

Her sour mood quickly changed with the activity of this fine gather. Skyler twirled in the air a few dragonlengths above her head, chittering and dancing with excitement along with most of the other flits in the area. Jiinae laughed and called up to the playful flit, bidding him to land on her forearm so as not to ruin her special gather dress.

"So what should we do first Sky? There's so much we can do, I can't decide on my own." Skyler gave a quick cheep, looking towards the many stalls stocked with numerous items and wares that caught his curiosity.

Alerai paused and looked up as a familiar voice asked, "Can I carry those for you?" She blinked before automatically handing him her pack. "Just please be careful. Those are for the Masterharper," she cautioned, feeling a little protective of the instruments. She was hoping she could get some marks to spend from the Masterharper when she gave the instruments up to be sold. She actually looked at who she gave the pack to now, and searched her memory. An image floated into her view, ah, 'twas the one she gave a mug of klah to when he first arrived, Dilian. She flashed a grin at him before responding, "Why, hello! How are you doing?" Tolan flew down to circle above the two, chirping as he watched.

Dilian takes the pack and motions towards the stall where Selene had been sitting. "Selene was selling some instruments over there. We could set them there for now." He takes a breath before going on. "She said the music was about to start, and if you don't really have anyone else to dance with, and if you don't mind..." Dilian takes another deep breath and looks Alerai in the eyes, "What I am trying to say is, do you want to dance?"
((*kick starts Gaia into working again* Oo... better... *reads* Hmmm... Should I let Alerai have dancing skills, or be horrible at dancing? *searches for a pic of Alerai*))

Alerai blushed, having never danced with anyone but her mother, who had tried to teach her how to dance.
"Ah..." she started, before her throat closed on her. She gulped, then motioned to the stall, hoping that he'd put the instruments down before... dancing with her. Her cheeks were a bright red in contrast to her blue gather dress. She started over to the stall while she tried to remember how not to step on your partner's toes, her feet doing small versions of the dance steps she learned.

Darek drifted into the Gather here was one thing set in his mind: to drink until his head collided with the table. After being literally, flooded with paper work and nagging harpers all he wanted was to have a nice, long spell against the wall. He grabbed the nearest wineskin, which happened to be out of its owner's line of sight, and took a deep drink.

"Ah, I needed that," he mumbled to the brown flit on his shoulder as he slumped into a bench.

((Get this show on the road...if it's not in the right place...oh well))

"Not that..." He didn't bother to finish. He sighed, set Arthas on his lap, and took a deep breath.

He began the quick folk song, which was kept at a fast pace. It had a nagging tune. Many sang it for the lewd parodies it provided when working. Unfourtnately, Daniel knew most of them but sang the "acceptible" verses first...

Selene played along to the fast tune. She didn't need the music sheets; it was a simple, repetitve, and catchy melody, and it had only taken a few times playing it for it to be stuck in her head. In some subconscious part of her mind, she listened to Daniel's voice...it really was very nice to listen to...

The twins grinned as the other group finished up and left the stand. The dancers that were nearby were flushed and searching for drinks as the two redheaded harpers climbed up. Nikiana ran through a few chords quickly and adjusted a string or two before satisfied with the tuning. Her heart pounded in her chest as she nodded to her brother.

Nalan let off a quick drumroll to gather everyone's attention before launching into the beat he had devised to go along with his sister's strumming. Nikiana jumped in with the gitar and, after a few chords, the harmonized voices of the twins let loose in verse.

Quote:
Turns ago, in Benden Weyr
On a day sunny and fair,
With skies free of Thread
Wait, the Weyrleaders're dead?

A Hatching was underway
On that terrible day
With the Weyrleaders gone.
And out hatched a strange dragon.

Wait, not one, but two.
No, three. How, who knew?
A green with markings gold,
and a two-tailed green, behold.

Then from a rather small egg
out popped a golden leg.
The Gold! From an egg small
But with an attitude tall.

The golden marked green
gave out a happy keen
as she made her way
across the sands to Ray.

As Wrath and Ray grew older,
Smarter, and quite bolder,
It was discovered that
Wrath was a Queen, in fact.

The Green-gold grew more bronze
Then one day as the sun rose,
Wrath took to the skies
As well as several guys.

Several bronzes and a brown
None of them would back down.
With some luck and skill,
The brown gave a trill.

He had caught the queen,
who had been thought a green.
Outflying the bronzes,
and earning many gazes.

Several Turns afterward,
Wrath again flew skyward.
The brown folowed again,
Followed by bronzen kin.

The brown's luck was out
There was no doubt.
And so a bronze won instead,
Though he let it go to his head.

The Weyrwoman stepped down
And Ray accepted with a frown.
Shouldering the responsibility,
Ray wondered, "Why me?"

But the next day came,
giving Ray her fame.
The ground trembled
and the Weyrfolk fled.

Fleeing to Fort Weyr,
Benden took refuge there.
Other Weyrs refused to aid
"Fort's problem" they said.

So that is the story
in all of its glory
of Goldrider Ray,
Weyrwoman for a Day.

The last note was held out for a few extra beats and Nalan finished them off with a drum flourish. Beaming, the twins shared a smile before the reaction of the audience hit them.

Ray pushes through the crowd as another set begins to sing, the opening line featuring Benden Weyr. The crowd is quiet, so at least she can hear it!

She winces as she realizes the song is about her own exploits. Why did they always focus on the flights? Ray thinks back, surely there had been more interesting accomplishments in her career than two flights and a very brief stint as Weyrwoman?

Still. Nobody seems to have recognized her, so Ray applauds along with the crowd and tries to fight down a blush--she was going to have to get used to hearing it, she had a feeling it was going to be played frequently around her.

Isskio trills loudly, indignant. The song hadn't even mentioned her! "Shh!" Ray places her fingertips on the flit's nose. Hopefully the noise of the crowd had kept her from being heard.

L'mi listened to the tune and the words carefully, he had never heard the tune before. As he took in what the twins were singing, he was surprised at their boldness. He knew it wasn't uncommon for Harpers to make political statements with their music, but was a Gather really the place to be doing that?

As they finished the piece, L'mi scanned the crowd, trying to get the general reaction. As his eyes glossed over the people nearby, he was surprised to see the Bendon Weyrwoman only a few feet away, obviously having heard the song herself. He thought of going over to day hello, but he figured that after what was just sung, she would rather remain unnoticed. Smiling, he returned his attention to the Harpers on stage, hoping their next selection would be a little less controversial.

((*notices the quotes getting a little long and pushes them together*))

"Ready?"
She turned towards him, then actually curtied before reaching a hand out for him to take. She wasn't exactly ready, but she was as ready as she would be. So hoped she didn't look as nervous as she felt.

((She'd allow him to take her to wherever they would be dancing, and at least attempt to follow his steps...))

Dilian led Alerai into the dancing area. Moving with only minimal toe-stepping, the two move about the dance floor, talking as they go.
"I am glad you showed up when you did, I know almost no one from the hall. Between moving in and the gather it has been hectic."

Well, perhaps the girl did know how to barter. "Not a chance, it'd run me out of buisness. One and a half."

Selene was taking a break at a table when the twins started their song. Nikiana and Nalan were infamous at the Hall, and she laughted at their cheekiness. She shook her head with a grin as she took a sip from her her fluted glass. She frowned into it, seeing that it was only some marginal Tillek red, and hailed the vintner. "Hey, nothing better for good harper marks?" The man looked at her skeptically with an "are you kidding?" look. "Yeah yeah," she said, waving her hand dismissively. Oh well, the day was young...

Although she looked relaxed and oblivious, reclining vaguely at some bench sipping at her wine, she was actually alert. The twins' mention of the dragonriders was as good a time to get a feel for the public reaction as any. Most of the crafting folk, showing the knots of miners and smithers, nodded along approvingly and clapped at the end of the song. However, a group of farmers from Keroon, along with a Bitran gamer nearby, frowned darkly. "Glory?," said one, muttering, "Glorified thieves, more likely." the Bitran nodded in agreement. "Aye...those tithes are nothing short of thievery, if you ask me."

Her ears pricked and she listened intently, filing away the comment to tell the Masterharper later. Hmm...so the dissenters are growing bolder... she thought. Talking against the Weyrs in public was cocky business. She downed the rest of her wine. Her next number wasn't for a while, so she decided to just head back to the booth and maybe get some good sells in before dinner...

Faerra grinned from her perch on the mare's back as music drifted faintly across to the beast area. Calypso stopped, lifting her head and trilling a not in response, before breaking into an excited canter. Faerra sat easily to it was the mare showed off her paces. she was quite an exceptional runner. Wonderful confirmation as well...

After riding her for a bit more, Faerra made her decision. She nudged the mare back over to the seller, dismounting. "I'll take her."

The man nodded, pleased. "Okay, no problem."

Handing over the amount of marks the man instructed, Fae haltered the mare with her handmade one, glad that Calypso accepted it so easily. Rubbing the runner's neck, she led her away. Tao chirped happily, flying and landing on Calypso's back, showing Faerra an image of him riding.
