Meeting Tommy and Alec and seeing them both stuck in the wild had been an eye opening experience for Sid. That, on top of Seth's insistance they should instigate some sort of rebellion, gave him a lot to think about. It reminded him that he needed to be thankful for what he had, nevermind the resistence stuff, he was almost to the point that he wasn't even thinking about his own future changes. What he really needed to do then, was make use of the intercom.

He wasn't even sure what he was going to ask for until the moment after he had pressed 0. His stereo, now that he looked at it, left a lot to be desired.

Sabin, still on moniter duty, and past the point of the interesting changes, noted the incoming call from the duplex. Interested in seeing what Sid might want as a break from his monotony, he changed the primary focus of the cameras to his duplex, and patched the call through.

"Good evening, Mr. Eisley. How can I help you?" Came a familar voice through the intercom.

"Yeeeah," he said, the word out just to give himself a second's time more to think about what else to say. There was something, but he tried to keep it at the back of his mind. Material crap was more important at the moment.

"It's true you can request anything within reason for delivery here, isn't it?"

More stalling, more wondering. He mentally kicked himself for being unable to forget about that other stuff.

"Welll, Mr Eisley you are certainly welcome to request. We can't guarentee anything per se, but most reasonable requests are filled. What is it that you find yourself lacking?"

He leaned against the wall and let his eyes wander across the room. The place was already looking like a mess, which was strangely comforting. Realizing letting his thoughts drift had turned to a few seconds of silence, he said, "Could I get, like, some kind of stereo system in here? Something a bit better than the portable thing I've got know. I'm talking surround sound, y'know?"

He thought about the neighbors only after he said it. They all seemed so much younger than him... they'd appreciate it, sure.

"I could probably manage something." Sabin replied, adding a note to his files, and flagging it. After all, if a piano could be approved, why not a stereo? After all, Sid had been a 'good boy' so far. And relatively intersting to watch the older man's reactions of the various encounters of the island.

"We'll see what we can do. How has your writing been going?" He felt inclined to strike up a conversation.

"Oh, uh, better... good," Sid said, caught off guard. The mention made him look back to his typewriter. The wall around it was blanketed in typed pages that still needed to be rearranged.

Shaking his head, he looked back the intercom. He wasn't sure why he felt he had to look at it. "Look, can I ask you something?"

"I'm glad to hear that. Nothing like an... unusual situation to feed the muse, no?"

"And certainly. You may ask away. But of course, be careful what you ask - you may not wish to know the answer."

"Right," he said the the first statement, effectively brushing it aside.

"It's not about what I'm gonna end up as. I mean, I suppose I'll find out soon enough, right?" He laughed, though he couldn't force any humor into it. "No, what I wanna know is... uh... This is all about Donovan isn't it? Er, the files, I mean... Well, you probably know, don't you?"

He bit his lip, annoyed with himself that the subject- the whole conversation, even- could make him trip over his own words so.

"This is true enough. I won't spoil your surprise if you don't wish to know yet."

Before Sabin answered the actual question, there was a clicking of keyboard strokes and a pause, with some quiet mumbling.

"Donnovan.... Donnovan... Ahhh... hrmmm... you.. came across a set of files... they were labeled a security risk..."

"I thought so," he said. He turned so that his back was against the wall. After another mirthless laugh he said, "See, I hadn't even thought about that until.. . Uh, meeting people here. And I'm perfectly aware that saying I didn't even understand half of it wouldn't do jack to get me out of here." He drummed his fingers on the wall, finding himself staring at the ceiling as he went on.

"I just wondered is all."

"Well, unfortunately I'm not the one who calls those shots around here. But From the notes I see, they coulnd't take a risk with the... sensitive material that was in the files. And ... well... obviously now it's a bit late. Not even the staff are allowed to leave the island once they arrive."

"What, not even for weekend trips?" he said, grinning just a little. "That really does suck."

He kept drumming his fingers on the wall. "Hey, another thing... Could you really, say, provide marijuana if I asked? Because I feel that I need, like, a variety of options where pain relief is concerned, just to ensure that any one of them doesn't, ah, lose its effectiveness?"

Such bullshit, and he knew it.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 21, 2006 10:58 pm

Sabin laughed at this - to which question, though, it was unclear.

"No, unfortunately. My weekends consist generally of my choice of the various labwork I participate in, but no trips back to the states. And as far as Marajuana... you don't need to provide an excuse. You aren't exactly on US soil or need to worry about substance abuse laws from there... then again, you don't exactly have your basic constitutionally-granted human rights either~! So... call it a rather imbalanced tradeoff. We can get you "soft" drugs, but nothing that's going to... screw you up or make you a danger to yourself or others. We can get you some weed."

"Excellent, great, sweet," Sid said, nodding along. "Never had much of an inclination towards the hard stuff, anyway." As if that made everything else so much acceptable. "Right, so, stereo, weed... That about does it. Except... uh... that animal of mine- Mammal? Vegetable? Mineral? What?"

He lightly hit his head against the wall. He didn't really want to know that. Well, he did, he just didn't mean to ask.
