Awera There is nothing wrong with tapping your foot. Though, it might resonate a bit if you are on risers, there is nothing bad about it. I sometimes tap my foot, mainly just my toes. Other than that, I just randomly stopped one day, reallly. Wierd, eh? during conserts i dont have to worry about taping my foot becuase the other guy on my riser taps so hard i can just hear/feel it lol.

Nappy Almanix In percussion in my school we are supposted to. So whenever I play the piano I tap my foot to get used to it (I haven't quite started I just made the Perucussion audition.) And i'm playing a duet in piano and the other kid does Percussion also. Now he can't play the piano without taping his foot. I don't know why your teacher would not want you to tap your foot. That's just odd. neutral Piano? Won't that interfere when you have to play with a pedal? confused I don't believe it would. I was taught to use only one foot on the pedals, unless another was required. But, two pedals have never been used at the same time when I've played. Maybe I'm not good enough. lol As far as tapping goes, I use it while I'm learning a piece during band.. never when practicing at home. After learning, I don't tap usually, but sometimes I start involuntarily. Old habits die hard. Also, I use my heel, because it's less noticable, especially during concerts on a wooden floor. o.o Your band director is definately odd, for my director doesn't care as long as it's not during a concert, unless it's a non-audible way to tap.

I only tap when sightreading a piece.
It doesn't look professional sometimes, especially when some people in a section at my school stomp their foot and count rests out loud. (Even though it's still rather helpful for me so I don't have to count)

I don't think you'll have to use two pedals either. XD
I think I was thinking that because I usually tap with my right foot when I do and I also do pedals with my right foot. I just usually use a metronome with the piano.
Uhhh...sorry about that.

That is messed up that your band director doesn't let you tap your foot. My band director makes us tap our foot. Although not everybody does.

When I first joined in fourth, I was encouraged to. I was in Junior High Band also. Never did though.

The real question is do you tap, A) your toes. (in your shoe.) B) the front part of your foot. C) your heel.

River Angel Odin Okay, this has been bothering me for three years...since 6th grade when I joined the middle school band. I'm not saying I downright hate my band director or anything, but I can't possibly keep tempo without having to tap my foot. And he's told me so many times to stop (but I still havn't) and he says that tapping your foot is for babies, which was quite insulting to me, actually. My dad's a big music teacher (He was Rhode Island Teacher of the Year) and he taps his foot, which basically means that Mr. Fortier was calling him a baby. The funny thing is, he looks up to my dad yet he's calling him a baby. sweatdrop Anyway, do you think tapping your foot is at all bad? When I think about it now, it is a little elementary, but hey, whatever it takes to make a band sound good and kept in the tempo..

What's wrong with tapping your foot? I do it. Most of my friends in band do it. I've even seen professionals in big name orchestras do it. They just tell you that because they think that if you like stomp your foot, then you make the band look bad.
