Ahh, that time of the week again!

A rather enjoyable episode, if I may say so!

Quite a few little twists and turns (which I will keep spoiler-free for those who missed it!), and quite satisfyingly creepy in places.

It's always rather hard to pull off an episode with very little of the Doctor himself in it, but I think they got the balance about right this time. smile

Great episode, thoroughly enjoyed it. It was suitably creepy right up to the spoilers flickering lightbulb....

Then they should have taken a leaf out of Japanese horror and left it to our imaginations, cos those statues were *not* so creepy when seen. The first time the statue had teeth, I swore. But when they were all coming on, looking like they were doing the Time Warp or something, it wasn't so creepy.

Still, a fantastic episode which I really enjoyed. I really like Stephen Moffat's stories.

PS I may kill Graham Norton if he talks over the best part of the credits ever again...

I may also need to hunt down whatever genius decided to run a news item on a Doctor Who convention *in Gloucester* less than 40 miles from where I am, where *Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred* were appearing, *after* the convention ended. I may die... :'(

I desire more episodes like this one, myself.

Tell us what you liked about it that leaves you wanting more?

Highly ingenious monsters and ideas, classic time-traveling style plot you'd only really get on Doctor Who, excellent atmosphere, well-woven script and likeable protagonist.
I can't find any flaws in it at all, and this is unusual for me.

Plus, I keep getting the urge to look over my shoulder wink

Agreed.

I hope that RTD was watching that as proof that a virtually Doctor-less episode doesn't have to turn out like Love and Monsters.

I liked the little montage of random statues at the end - it was enough to give little kids the heebies. wink

Gave my family the heebies, too.

Well, although I've avoided reading it, the press release/summary/plot for the finale is out there.

Well, tonight's episode was interesting!

Keeping things spoiler-free, I'm not sure if I liked it or not! The second part could be rather interesting though. We shall see. Certainly a lot of potential there for a cracking episode. wink

I'm less than thrilled by what I'm hearing about the last episode...

Spoilers:

Apparently, Martha's going to save the world. Can't the flippin' title character get to do that for once?!

End finale speculation

Back to this week:

Spoilers:

I know that, with Jack back, it was inevitable that we were gong to get another load of "RoseRoseRoseSQUEEEEEOMFGRose!!!!!!111!!!!" shoved down our throats, but I still reserve the right to be bored with it after almost an entire series of her getting special treatment.

I know that we only saw John Simm briefly, but my only complaint with his performance so far is that him having that role rules him out as a future Doctor - which, from that couple of minutes of watching him, I'd have quite liked to see. sad

End spoilers

I'm certainly beginning to twitch when I hear the name "Rose" now!

I do feel the series could be renamed "The Magical Adventures of Rose Tyler (and friends)" at some points. As much as I liked the character of Rose. she really does need to be put out to pasture in order for any future companion to have even the remotest chance to shine.

As you can see from my earlier posts, I'm not a fan. I've said exactly the same thing as you multiple times.

I was willing to give her a chance to start with, but her saving the Doctor's neck to prove herself on her debut was one thing - her turning into a walking deus ex machina by the end of that series was another.

And by the second series - from the Sleeping Beauty routine in The Christmas Invasion to the constant soap opera relationship bickering that meant that I couldn't give even half a hoot for either of the clingy, self-obsessed lead characters by the end - I just wanted rid of her by any means necessary.

The girl's an utter Mary-Sue.

No other companion's gotten eulogised like this. I know that she has a fanbase, but I wish that RTD'd let her go, or I feel as though the Doctor'll still be pining for her five years from now - and she was a poisonous enough influence when she was actually physically there.

I feel sorry for Freema Agyeman. It's not just Martha who's constantly being overshadowed - it's her, too.

I'm.. avoiding all spoilers for the finale, on principle (and the complete, unboutedly genuine plot synopsis is out there- I can link anyone who really does want to know), but I enjoyed tonight's episode aside from the Rose references, and they were kinda necessary for continuity.

Anyway, she'll certainly be gone when RTD retires, at least.

We hope. rolleyes

At least Stephen Moffat seems to've had a sense of moderation so far. I'd have been far more worried if Paul Cornell was taking over primary duties - between watching his episodes and listening to him in interviews, he's as crazy about shoehorning Rose, "Rose's story" and/or her bolt-on relatives into things as RTD is.

Moffat is, on the whole, a pretty good choice.

Is a pity, though. I was thinking with this week's episode that RTD was finally getting his act together.
