...He really shouldn't try to decipher that for more than it was. Because however much the kid loved his words and his double-meaning and his exact meaning - okay, that was sort of the point here. Simple communication with a dose of Alex's version of 'I've been chatting with a neighborhood parent, you moron', possibly without the name-calling but Cody's subconscious was adept at childish insult and rarely let an opportunity for verbal abuse pass by.

...Hunh.

The 'unicorn' fumbled for words and came up at something of a lost. Rightly embarassed for being so aggressive but loath to make up for it. "Oh," he said eventually, going back to leaning on the back of the bench and frowning gaze trailing over towards the now marked-and-tagged tyke in the playground, "Cute little bugger," he said after a moment. Hardly an apology.

Alex resisted the urge to hit his head on something hard. Or Kingsley's. --No! Violence was the first resort of the stupid, he couldn't allow something so petty... oh, it hadn't been a real threat. Just... it was hard, sometimes. Dealing with this.

His own frown, characterized by a deep need but tentative way all directed at wanting to make amends to the coon he couldn't quite call friend yet, glanced over towards Silver with a slight questioning cast. What now? Had too many buttons been pushed? Or was there some chance of... well, anything less confrontational.

Silver stepped back towards the park from before...it hadn't been too long since the last visit. But, he had requested one sooner rather than later...Since Fae was beginning to get lonely. He had other friends, but he seemed more attached to the adults.

He held the onto his son's hand, and led him to the bench, picking him up, and setting him down. He was bigger now, yes, but he still babyed him..Silver sighed, and ran his fingers into his son's hair.

There was this... thing. About Kingsley and conflict. And how they seemed to be attached at the hip, or in some sort of symbiotic relationship that he could neither fathom nor appreciate. Still no solutions there, no ultimatum of worthy proportions and design, no simple truth lying in the open to find with unclouded, meditative eyes. Nothing but the unfortunate truth that things kept getting worse.

He needed a break.

However, unlike his typical 'breaks', this one was not to come in the form of solitude but in presence, specific presences of unusual calm or... not exactly calm, perhaps, there must be another word - but... respite. Something 'else' and other. Alex ventured into the park with his hands hiding in pockets, making an easy but direct beeline for Fae and Silver once he'd spotted the pair and simply smiling by way of greeting.

Fae looked rather contented with being out of the household...well, the new household. Back to his father's old home. Away from his mother and brother. Hm. He knew there were difficulties with his brother, but his father didn't tell him anything about it.

His ears flicked, and he turned his head a bit, looking to where Alex was coming from. He smiled, which wasn't a notion he did very often. Hopping up onto his feet, he still childishly rose his hand up to wave to the other, his father glancing up to give a returning smile of greeting..looking a bit more tired than last time they had seen one another.

However much of a respite this seemed to be for all parties, Alex couldn't help but sense he wasn't the only one who'd felt a particular drugding quality to the air and to the progression of life of late. There seemed to be a tired caste to Silver's gaze, one that was... surely explicable, but a little worrisome even though he knew the reason for it. Mystery wasn't the only means of evoking concern.

Fae on the other hand, grew spectacularly quickly - as seemed the way of children here abouts. The boy maintained that sense of precocious sensitivity, however, no matter how fast he seemed to be losing the facade of soft, squishy childhood.

Finally drawing up to the pair and glancing briefly at Silver before looking down at Fae with the smile maintained, Alex's shoulders rose slightly and his head tilted, "What's our remarkable plan today?" he asked.

Ah, well, Silver didn't seem too bothered. Just sleepy. He crossed his arms over his loosely clothed stomach, leaning his weight on one leg. "Morning," was it even morning..? He wasn't sure. He looked to Fae as he hopped down from the bench, and sighed gently, slipping one hand into his pocket.

Plan, plan. Well, Fae had wanted to go do something. Lord knew what. He grasped onto Alex's sleeve and tugged a bit, "Daddy wanted to go out for a while!" Of course, he didn't let his father speak this just yet. He seemed more enthusiastic than he used to...probably because he was comfortable with Alex than most people.

"...He's been asking for a pet since we moved back home. So, sounded like something to do, rather than just sit around at the park," he explained, and smiled a bit, lifting a hand up to run into his hair.

The smile deepened in a way that was genuinely pleased - a pet was... well, it sounded perfect, really. Children needed attention - that was true even if one stripped away all stereotypes - they also needed something to devote their attention to, and what better than something that could provide affection?

"A pet?" he said more to Fae than Silver, a hint of joy creeping into his voice as one does when one wishes to complement excitement, "Was there anything in particular you were thinking of?" And, as he spoke glancing about in silent question of the direction in which they would seek out their goal.

Fae nodded, "Daddy said it'd be good for me!" He said this as if Silver wasn't there. But, eh. He pulled him towards town a bit, hearing his father laugh gently. "I..I want a dragon!" Dragon. Right. He giggled a bit, and grasped onto his sleeve a bit tighter, and waited for them to follow...though Silver still had to point out the direction of the town.

With a bare laugh, Alex followed the tugs on his sleeve. Silver was certainly on the right track when it came to being a single parent - there were few to no doubts in his mind that the man had the parenting thing perfectly within his range of abilities. It couldn't be easy, certainly, but to be doing a job of it at all was at the very least poetically admirable.

"What do dragons eat?" he asked as opposed to 'where would you get one from' - still sensible, but not quite the same vein.

"..Mice?" He questioned, and looked up at him. He flicked his ears once more, as they entered the town, Silver coming up near the two of them so that Fae didn't randomly bolt off somewhere.

He chuckled, "Why not...a normal pet? That wont piss Itachi off? Cat...dog..bird," he enthused, and smirked, petting his son's head.

A whiff of breath that almost caught onto a habit of laughter and Alex nodded, "Mice, yes, that sounds right - it'd have to be a smaller dragon, I imagine," he surmised with a glance at Silver and momentary, involuntary frown at mention of a bird.

He kept forgetting how... well... the differences between life as it had been and life as it was - specifically life with wings. Animalistic traits. How much closer did that bring him to being--well, where was the difference in the first place? Never a subject of much inquiry for him in the past, but now one of... some delicacy, which he instinctively avoided.

Silver gave him an apologetic smile, trying to show that he was teasing. He nudged Alex gently with his elbow, before looking down to the boy. "Get a cat or a dog, they'll be easier to handle. Maybe Itachi'll let you get a dragon when..you're...er, older." He chuckled once more, and brought a hand up to run into his hair.

Fae pouted a bit, before blinked, and continued on around the place. He blinked, though, when he heard a mewing--and some random snarling in one of the alleyways near them. Pausing, he glanced in that direction, and noted the sight of a dog tail, pointed straight out...rear was the only thing seem, but the hopping and bristling haunches made it look angry.

Brushing off and acknowledging the comment for what it was - hardly intentional and unexpected on any part - Alex shrugged slightly with a minimal smile. That he made no reaction to the elbow-nudge was further indication to his surprise at his reaction to the idea of an avian pet - if he was comfortable in contact, however brief, in this situation it baffled him that an innocent idea could evoke such concern. Something deeper to the nature of being an Anthropomorph that he'd clearly missed thus far...

He agreed, however silently, that a cat or dog might not be only a more probable choice but a safer one. --even if such racuouses as in the alley they now approached had the potential to make such animals less so. Unconsciously he reached out to put a fine-boned hand on Fae's shoulder, not stopping the boy from moving forward but more as a cautionary note, eyes trained in mild concern towards what he assumed now... wasn't the sort of thing one necessarily let small children run at.

Fae squeaked a bit at the hand to his shoulder, and glanced up at him, tail twitching against the back of his thighs. He felt his father's presence, as well, which made him pout. He wanted to see what it was. Glancing down, he noted some smaller rocks--hm.

Now, he loved animals. But the sounds of another animal in distress bothered him. The dog was tiny...no bigger than a rat terrier or something along those lines. He moved forward, but his father grabbed onto the back of his shirt. Pouting more, he kicked the small pile of rocks towards the dog--startling it, making it pop out from behind the while, snarl in their direction--till his father returned the notion, and bolted. Frowning, the child pulled forward quite randomly, his father mumbling a curse.

Approaching the area that the dog had been, he dropped to his haunches, and hugged his knees..staring at a cluster of boxes. They were collapsed over a white furball. Reaching forward, he brushed up one of the cardboard flaps, and viewed a trembling kitten--about the size of his hands put together. Reaching forward, he took up the kitten quickly--that childish curiosity getting the better of him. "Kitty~"
