Asegi watched ravenously as his father ripped into the impala and ate away. He was so hungry that he could barely stand it. His father's voice calling him over to eat was like music,

"Coming!"

He dashed toward his father's dead impala and lunged at it with a weak roar and went for its throat. He like to pretend that he was killikng his food before eating it. After gnawing at the preybeast's throat, he moved toward the flank and tore a fair sized chnk out and devoured it. His whole face, front legs and chest were no longer a pretty white, but crimson red. He tended to go through quite a change in appearance during meal times, as most white lions did. He ripped and chewed through what he could of the impala untill he could eat no more. With a small burp he backed off and licked his chops. He smiled up at his father with a bloody grin, what a pitiful sight this cub must've been. He flopped down into the dust and licked at his paws contently.

Asa'nunu watched him tear at his preybeast, her fur all arise as he growled softly. It was custom, but she wasn't one to normally give up her place as ranking lioness to a meager lion. As soon as he'd turned his tail to her, she snarled and ripped into her preybeast, making soft growling noises as she ate. Her paws and neck were soon coated in the impala's blood, and she roared to the sky, thanking the land for its sacrafice.

As she finally lifted her crimson darkened muzzle from her kill, the young lioness noticed her daughter had not yet ate. Asa'nunu had filled her belly, for the most part, and conceded that the pack should go before her full belly. Taking a foreleg into her maw, she dragged it over to U'yosi's kill, watching Tsi'lihu. Backing away a few paces, she curled up on the softly swaying grasses, a purr rising in her throat. She was content, for the meantime, and wouldn't be going back for seconds until after her stomach had settled.

While the lions fed on the two weakest of the herd's members, the others had finally slowed to a stop on the edge of the territory. They trembled and their chests heaved and they circled aimlessly in the large group. Manyonyota was among them and she trembled the worst. The white lion had taken the female just seconds behind her. Such a small thing, but it was the difference between her life and the one of the impala that was now food. As the day wore on, the herd calmed and fell to the grass at their feet, hungry after the long race in the hot sun.

"Tsi'hilu! Eat!" growled U'yosi, the bloodstains barely showing on his dark muzzle, so different from the spattered white coats of his family. He could still have eaten more; but Tsi'hilu must have some. He spared a small glance to his self-assured mate, lying contented with her icy eyes fixed on the scene. She looked full enough. To distract his attention, he padded a little way towards her.
"I thank you for your help, Asa'nunu," he growled warmly, trying to close a little of the gaping distance between them with a hesitant smile.

Asa'nunu watched her daughter with a slight indifference in those blue eyes, glancing up as she heard someone pad close. U'yosi. What did he want now? Her eyes softened slightly, such a small difference that one untrained to watch the emotions in the pale lioness's eyes might have missed it. She could treat him better, a bit. He was one of the pack, after all.

"You are..most welcome, U'yosi." It was so tense between them, like a string pulled tight enogh to snap. She managed a small half-smile, though it looked more like a smirk with the blood splattered on her snow white fur. Licking the crimson stuff from her muzzle, she glanced up at him hesitantly. What did he expect her to do? Start up a conversation, as if they were friends? Asa'nunu was well aware of how she'd drifted from him, and wasn't sure if she ever wanted to come back.

Not that he was a bad mate, but the adolecent lioness just couldn't find the strength to be the good mate she'd used to be. Other things were on her mind, like the pack she'd lost. At that her eyes clouded with pain, and she tilted her head down, eyes downcast. What did he expect?

U'yosi labouriously sat near to her, but not too close. His eyes crinkled slightly with pain as he once more was made aware of the lioness' indifference. But that was not needed for survival, so he stolidly pushed the thought to the back of his mind.
"The children of the clan grow strong," he remarked off-handedly, half speaking to her, half to no-one in particular. "I feel this land may be good to us. Perhaps we should seek out the clans, see how they are getting along. And the children should see the nvwati again." He mused to himself aloud.

U'yosi had a good idea? That was a suprise. Most male lions wanted nothing more than to mate and eat. Asa'nunu didn't want to seem too excited to meet the rest of the clans, to see Aya'tas most of all, and it was fairly easy with the meat in her belly making her sleepy.

"You have a good idea, U'yosi. Have you seen any of the other clans running about?" The young lioness said, curiousity slipping into her voice as she grew more excited. Her eyes seemed to come alive, a little at a time. When the clans met, she could almost forget all those she had lost. She still kept her eyes to the ground, a small voice in the back of her mind reminding her of her grief.

To cover up her slip, she glanced over at him. "And I would like to speak with the nvwati, so should the cubs." The cubs, not their cubs, or even hers. She'd lost a part of herself, the part that let her care about her family, with all her clan.

Asegi gnawed a stray bone, one he had lodged out of the stil bleeding impala carcass. He saw his father pad to his mother and he watched the two with careful eyes, his ears swiveling about, trying to pick up their conversation and suceeding. He felt his heart fill up with love for his mother as he saw a happy gleam fill her eyes. Maybe she was proud of him for being such a good son. Probably not, but Asegi couldn't bear to tell himself other wise.

His father mentioned something about how he and his sister were doing well. 'Duh she knows that dad...' he thought to himself. His ears prikced forward more as his father mentioned something about going to see other clans. This made Asegi wriggle about with joy. Going to see others! He had been stuck here, only to play with his sister his whole life, maybe the other clans had cubs he could play with too! Not that he minded playing with Tsi, she was the best sister a lion like him could ask for! He rose slowly, the bone dropping to the ground and making a thud, giving away his eaves dropping position.

U'yosi considered his words carefully, trying not to make too much of the fact that at last the aduladi had praised one of his ideas. "In the past few days I believe I came across the scent most ofen used by the Sky Clan. I could not be certain, even though the smell was reminiscent of In'ali himself... perhaps they roam towards our area once more." He folded one large paw over, suddenly remembering that the one known as Fire Killer called himself a member of that clan. Darkness blanketed his brief hope, but he shook it off with a brisk movement of his head and a slight snort. These fey thoughts did nobody any good. He must look to the children.

Talking of whom, he glanced up as Asegi guility dropped the bone. "Eat up," he growled lightly. "It will not be long before the vultures and hyenas gather to steal the bounty of the land."

"The Sky Clan?" Asa'nunu pondered over this for a long moment, nodding slightly. That meant Aya'tas would be nearby, or at least near enough that she could search him out. She longed to see him again, though it barely showed in her clear blue eyes. "Perhaps they do, U'yosi." Pulling herself to all four paws in a rather unconcerned way, her ear twitched as the bone was dropped to the ground.

Her eyes slid over to her son, and the young lioness gave a soft sigh. If he was going to listen in on their conversations, the least Asegi could do was be inconspicuous about it. "We will be on the move again soon." She added nothing more, assuming they would be ready by tomarrow night. Then the would go find the other Clans, and be able to drown her sorrow in the joy she found in Aya'tas's presence.

Moving away from her family slowly, she headed downriver further. Her coat was beginning to dry a dusty crimson color, but Asa'nunu didn't care. She was lost in her memories once more, not giving a thought to whether her mate or children would follow her.

Asegi smiled meekly as his position was discovered. He hoped they wouldn't be too mad... And it seemed they weren't. A deep sigh of relief heaved from his small chest. He shot a big toothy grin at his father but didn't go back to the kill, he'd leave it for Tsi, where ever she was. He watched his mother pad off and then sat to ponder on what he had heard. He had seen joy his mothers cold eyes again, maybe she liked going to go see other clans, or maybe she liked to play with the lions in them as he liked to play with the cubs. He nodded to himself, confirming his assumption. His head looked up to the darkening sky. On the move again... He had really been on the move was it really bad? And what were the other clans like, did they look like his did, or were they completely different? Deep thoughts for a cub with usually nothing on his mind. He shook his shaggy head and stood. He looked to the direction of the river, he could use a drink. Asegi loped over there and lapped up the cool water, his dark eyes watching for danger. He wondered where Tsi had gotten to, she couldn't be far, he had just seen her not long ago.

Aya'tas yawned heavily, he was deeply tired as the sun sank so low onto the horizon. Hunting definetly wore him down exspecially these days. The only thing that kept his fight spirit for life up above depression, was the mystical spirits that looked down at him and Asa'nunu. He smiled deeply with pride from thinking upon those two wonderful supporters of his ideas. Blackness was approaching and soon he would need to retire for rest before another day of constant wandering. It was so futile most of the time, this infernal wandering. The clans would be so much stronger if they just stuck together and listened more often to the spirits that watched down on them.

He snorted in slight annoyance, those who considered their ancestors as minor issues had another thing coming. He nestled his dark chin in between his folded paws. Another day shall soon pass and it shall become even closer to the day when the tribes meet and a slight balance will be restored. "Asa'nunu" He mumbled quietly, before rolling over and trying his best to drift off to a quiet sleep.

Us'kali Galu'nadi yawned, lifting her head idly and looking about, her once-sharp eyes slightly dull, her ancient bones almost audibly creaking as she sat up, whuffling slightly at the effort it took just to rise to her haunches. Looking around, she wandered over to the stream, crouching and lapping at it with her long, pink tongue. Peering into the water as she drank, she sighed, remembering fondly her youth.

Slumber dripping over her form like the sweetest honey, Ada'wehi twitched one paw idly, her mind at play though her body lay useless. The cub lay beneath a fledgeling baobab, it's skeletal branches shading her small white figure.
However, even the most beautiful of dreams must come to an end, and with a disgruntled yawn did the tiny femme awake, disappointed that her imaginary hunt had been cut short. Her mind had conjured an image of the youngster chasing a kingfisher at the edge of a great lake, pure and devoid of ripples, stretching as far as the eye could see. The very thought of it made her throat burn, and raising drowsily to her feet, the tiny lioness set off for the stream, short legs picking up pace.

U'yosi watched Asa'nunu pad off on her accustomed mourning by the riverside, his eyes impassive. A small part of him was annoyed; to mourn for those of the clan was her right. He had even mourned. He, who had lost his entire clan! The Clan of the Mantis had dwindled down to himself, keeping their lore locked inside. It was not his right to teach it to anyone, not even his beloved Asegi & Tsi'hilu, for they would learn of the Wolf Clan ways. Perhaps that was something he could ask the nvwati about. Maybe it should be him that he passed the lore on to. But he digressed. To mourn was right and proper. But it had been over twelve moons since they ended the Long Journey. Asa'nunu should be looking to the future, not living in the bitter past. It was not practical. The well-being of this clan mattered now, the new clan they must establish in this land.

He got to his feet, shaking his mane determinedly and yawning hugely. Then he called out in a strong voice.
"Come, Asegi! We shall go exploring, you and I, and try and discover more traces of the other Ela'wadiyi. We shall please the adu'ladi, and," he paused to wink, lowering his voice, "and perhaps adventure also." Without looking back to where Asa'nunu lingered by the river, he strode forward. Tsi'hilu was still at the kill; if there was danger, then the adu'ladiwould protect her, as was her duty. He kept walking, trying to smooth the frown from his face.
