"No harm done, I think," Prox answered, a small frown drawing his brows down. It seemed that there weren't any actual injuries, but he hoped that there weren't any serious hurt feelings; the children had seemed to be getting along well enough.
"A band-aid," Merlyn insisted, giggling at the consternation his announcement had caused.
Prox sighed and hid a small smile.

Luna and Jokeph exchanged a long glance, an unspoken conversation between them as their eyes locked.
To the trained mind, their conversation would have consisted of "For his--" "For his BUTT."

Merlyn tilted his head, looked from Luna to Jokeph and back, and gleefully reiterated, "Butt!"
"... okay, I think it might be naptime," Prox said, and went to take Merlyn's hand.
"DIGGING," Merlyn pouted, and evaded his father's hand by snatching up the shovel again in both hands.

The hole would be there another day, Luna knew. Right? There was always more time for digging, right?

But - but - "Not tired," Merlyn said, and immediately contradicted himself with a yawn.
Prox chuckled. "Naptime," he said, and this time successfully caught his son's hand. He nodded to Luna and Jokeph. "Perhaps we'll see you again?"
Merlyn sulked a little bit. He hadn't quite been done playing and he liked Luna.

Jokeph let go of Luna long enough to sign a reply. It is inevitable.
Byebyebye, Luna projected, waving at Merlyn and Prox.

"Good afternoon," Prox nodded, and went back to collect the book he'd left on the bench.
Merlyn trailed after his father, grumbling to himself. Next time he wouldn't fall down, and then they wouldn't have to go so soon. He started to put his thumb into his mouth, discovered it was all sandy, and grumbled more. Nasty. Byebye, he thought back to Luna, a little forlornly.
