((All dialogue is in the eastern language unless otherwise noted.))

A woman in a tan kimono with a black obi and red cord with a rad parasol over her shoulder walked beside a young man wearing a pair of white hakama pants with a maroon undershirt and a black over coat. His belt was a white cord and he wore a pair of sandals. The young man's hair was spiky on top but he had a small ponytail in back. His eyes were a deep, swampy green but retained a bit of sparkle nonetheless.

His lady companion walked beside him, proudly. Her eyes were a stormy grey and her hair a blueish black with ivory streaks in it. Her hands were clasped in front of her and she chatted amiably with the young man. He suddenly leaned over and whispered something to her. She paused and looked straight ahead, tilting the parasol to shade her eyes.

The pair approached Lao, Sey, Hikaru and Kenji. As they did so, they caught the tail end of what was being said.

Lao Fei Zhu
"My apologies if I seem intrusive, but I'd like to know the details of this meeting- if they have been given to you. Call it curiousity, if you will."

The pair inclined their heads to Hikaru and Sey, the woman speaking for the both of them.

"My Lord. My Lady."

Then the woman turned her attention to Lao.

"Those details are for us to worry about. Your services will not be needed," the woman said, her voice tinged with steel as per usual," This meeting will be under Kouji and I's jurisdiction."

Lao bowed slightly to Alcyone Teshigahara, the realm's finest kunoichi. If she was here, then he definitely could take a rest. However, the biting tone that she regarded him with was certainly cause for concern. What had he done now? Every time they ran into each other, it seemed that she had something against him, though he had done nothing.

In any case, he still felt the need to continue with his duties, though it was his day off. He simply regarded her in his usual benevolent tone- "It is good to see you again, kunoichi Teshigahara. You are cheery today, as usual. However, I'm afraid that you will have to... put up with me, for the time being. I was invited to this occasion, and I don't like the situation any more than you do. Trust me."

He was referring to the possibility that there was a leak in security, and that this meeting was at risk of being stopped forcefully. If it came to that, their combined force would definitely be enough to neutralize the threat. But if that were to happen, he needed her to actually- well, trust him. The final part of his responce was whispered towards her, as a personal statement:

"So can we please put away the "bladed tongue" routine and at least pretend to be amicable this time? At least for Sey-chan?"

She ignored his whispered entreaty.

"First, you will speak of her with proper respect due. Second, you were invited? If so, then we will work you into the security detail, that will be no problem," her face remained neutral," however, I will be the direct body guard of Seyumi-dono, not you. Your little slip-up cannot be overlooked, Lao-kun, unfortunately. You will be relegated to direct support with Kouji should anything happen."

Alcyone was quite protective of her ward and felt she had good reason to be angry with him. He had slacked off in her eyes and Sey got loose in Laburnum- the list of things that could have gone wrong went on for miles. It was a stroke of luck that Lao had at least caught her so early on in her frolic.

He sighed openly. Hearing the distaste in her voice did not make him feel any better about the situation. He simply walked by, enjoying his time off, when she just came running up from behind him. It was indeed a stroke of luck, and there was much that could have gone wrong... but didn't. And that was what kept him going- to make sure that it would not go wrong.

Still, the slip-up was there, and he had no real excuse. "I accept. Thank you very much. I will not allow this to happen again. In the meantime, perhaps we should inspect the grounds- that is, if you have not done so already."

As he waited for her awnser, he reminded himself to try and befriend the ninja, instead of simply working with her from time to time. After all, it was necessary for them to try and get along, seeing as they would be working in concert occasionally. At least, he thought so.

"We already inspected the grounds Lao-san," Kouji said. He had felt Alcyone's annoyance at Lao's open behavior and cut in to save him from a tongue lashing," However, it might be prudent to go over them one more time about an hour before said meeting. Does that sound good to the both of you?

Alcyone's face remained impassive for a moment before she nodded. "A wise idea Kouji. A second check would be prudent."

Kouji beamed and looked at Lao. "Well, how 'bout it?"

He looked at Kouji, his eyes full of relief. If he were not there from time to time, who knows what Lao would have been doing at this point? The man was the sole reason that Fei had been able to tolerate the woman of stone, much less try and befriend her. And he would try, though it would just about kill him to do so.

He nodded and smiled, his cheerful expression returning. "Sounds like a plan. With your leave, Hikaru-sama, Seiyumi-dono." He waited for the two of them to lead him to the building, confident that things would turn out all right in the end, whether it came to blows or not.

(( EDIT: Ignore the western language stuff... misunderstanding. ))

"Keh..." Kenji grunted rudely as he dismounted from the saddle and took the horse's reigns in hand from the front. He didn't understand why the Kunoichi insisted in speaking with the foul western tongue... it was insulting to both her position and the company that she was in to think that a woman of her stature would lower herself to speaking the brutish language of the westerners when her own native tongue would have been much more appropriate...

...then again, he would have liked to be able to understand her half of the conversation.

His left arm folded across his stomach to rest the palm of his hand upon the butt of the hilt at his right hip, curling the fingers of his cloth-bound hand over the wrapping of the weapon's hilt as his eyes darted through the crowd. Very true to his own style of things... not at all subtle, though it gets the job done quite effectively.

"Teshigahara-sama..." the youthful warrior muttered almost incoherantly as he turned and forced himself, with noticable effort, to bow in a slight show of respect, "...I didn't know that you and your companion were in the area."

---

As this all played out, Hikaru, himself, had dismounted from his steed, stepping down beside the tall horse before reaching up with both arms to cradle the young Seyumi with them and lower her gently to the ground on her own two feet beside the animal. Hoping to keep her attention on the whimsical task at hand than to leave her to worry about the bickering between two clucking hens, he squatted down beside her and pointed down the road a slight bit to a cluster of stands.

"As pretty as you are in your training robes," Hikaru said to his sister with a slight smile, "We need to get you a new dress to go to dinner... why don't we go pick one out, okay?"

The Kunoichi waved Lao and Kouji away gently with her hand. Kouji bounced away happily, chattering with Lao.

Alcyone turned to Kenji and regarded him with a smirk. Her voice lost some of it's steel and softed a degree. "Then we did our jobs correctly. If you did know we were in the area, then that would make us poor ninja, would it not?"

She smiled softly and looked around. Her grey eyes came to a rest on a small street-side bar.

"I could go for a drink right now. Would you like to join me, Kenji-san?"

A series of moments could fly by quickly when one was busy. This would definetly be the case with Aasimar. Upon entrance unto the back room the bag was droped to the floor. The bard's right hand would move to undo the buttons of his shirt. The left would also move, though it would head down to the bag and undo the strap holding it shut. His movements were swift to finish the change. It was far from acceptable for an accomplished bard to be seen standing naked in the back of a bar. Luckily, Aasimar's nudity would last for only a moment. Within this moment his blue shirt and tan pants were placed gently in the bag. There was no reason to be rough with them, they were one of the few changes of cloths accepted in Western Civilization. During his time in the East the bard had picked up a number of robes made of various materials, be it silk or wool. Yet here, in the West, formal wear was acceptable.

"I could wear a jester's costume in the West and they would love it..."

These words were muttered with a good bit of meant irritation. This was indeed the truth. He had spent at least two years within the East as of late, preforming across the glorious landscape. Castles, village squares, taverns, even within a small temple devoted to the Air Elemental spirit. Yet in the East they found great pride in the legends of their ancestors, people who fought and died bravely. They adored his preformance even more so upon discovering the bard knew a good deal of the Eastern language. While Aasimar did not possess full comprehension of it, he knew enough to be able to recite in high chant. Yet all of his words came out excessively formal, as if he were a king giving a speech. That was not something that could be lain to rest though, an accent.

These thoughts would continue on even as he pulled out his other suit of clothing. These were far diffrent from those only recently thrust in the bag. Blues, reds, greens, yellows, and a various assortment of other colors blended together into one. It was bright, the colors seeming to spiral in upon each other to create new and intricate shades. It was a beautiful suit of course, though Aasimar despised it. The frown could not be kept from his features as he pulled the pants upward upon his form. These were loose, falling over his boot covered feet. Instantly the very form of his legs seemed to vanish. Too many colors spread in one would offset the eyes and draw attention, something Aasimar took full advantage of. The shirt would be pulled over his head only a moment later, this almost exactly the same as the pants. Yet the cloak would be the greatest of them all. It was not a simple blend, instead it was an intricate pattern of which the end and beginning could not be found. This was a great cloak, despite drawing every open eye within a mile to it. Made in the East by a famous seamstress who was said to hold the enchantment of air, she had worked for a long time on it. And the work she had done on Aasimar's pocketbook with this cloak had nearly been a disaster. Yet this ornament had paid all of the dues attached to it, increasing his fame. In the East he had picked up a number of nicknames due to this ornament, none of them were that appealing to Aasimar though.

It was done after he pulled on his gloves. The same make, the same blend, the same annoyance to his eyes. Of course it was quite appealing to others eyes. Unfortunately, glancing down was nearly a blinding experience for the bard. There was no time to worry about that though. As an after-thought his reading glass's would be removed, placed gently within the bag along with the rest of his clothing. With these gone, and the clothing adorning him, his light brown eyes seem to border upon a hazel color. A trick of color and light, nothing more. The cloak did seem to make him shine brighter though, very much so infact. That was the major annoyance about it. Yet for now Aasimar had more important things to work on. Within his head a list of legends and song he knew scrolled. Each would be taken, thought on, then judged. It would be at least three minutes before he would smile and nod to himself.

"They should find that amusing..."

Still, he was not ready to go out just yet. First came the task of drawing the entire story to mind. Thus a small seat in the corner would be taken within the back room.

((It's quite alright sugah))

Kadoria had just managed to avoid getting mangled by the damned nobles horses and was assessing the damage thankful the lute seemed to be fine. Checking over her hands to make sure they wern't scratched, she had forgotten to move to the side and was promptly bowled over again. Tho this time the force was strong enough to send her to the ground, she only had time to twist her body and land hard into her shoulder to avoid damaging her hand or the lute, crying out a very feminine sounding at that as she did so "AHH.....!!!!" Rolling over slightly to look at her attacker, her jade green eyes widen in fear for an instant as she took in his figure, looking every inch a fearful female before she got ahold of herself.

Coughing she shifted her voice into the cracking of a teenager, "yeah, I'm fine" refusing to let down her disguise so easily or acknowledge the female term. Kadoria knew the disguise was a good one and the only reason he suspected was he must have copped a feel when he bumped into her, accidental or not. For now she would ignore it, pushing herself back up off the ground, being mindful not to dust herself off too much, for what would that do but lend to his impression of her female nature. "Pbttt..." Blowing her unraveling hair from her face, she looked up at the stranger, trying to mantain the persona "You should watch where you're going" Taking instead of his hand, gripping onto his forearm as using it as leverage to pull herself up to a standing position.

He would obviously a bit older than her, as well as defeintely older than her appearance at the moment, so perhaps he could be fully assured of her 'maleness' with the casual caustic "Thanks Mister, I gotta go" Looking around quickly for some reason to leave without a more polite greeting that was urging the her female heart was wanting to stay and look a bit longer at the man. She was often like a kid in a candy shop when it came to shiny things. Through everything, tho she had a fear of men when they were up close and personal she did like to look, that hadn't been beaten out of her for sure.

She spotted the distraction just a moment after, a child of not more than 12 or 13 years, getting toppled into a chair by the same horseman as before but she seemed to be looking up at them with a bit of awe. She spared them the glance and saw another child in front of one of the riders who looked vaguely familiar. Wait she had seen her in the temple of light...Seyumi. , the shogun's daughter, Apparently a bit of handful but still a sweet child, at least from what she had heard of her anyways.

But that child wasn't her concern, other than what the person with her was teaching her about how to act. with power came responsiblity to those beneath you. Brushing aside the thought as she looked at the child tumbled on the chair, she then turned to the man who towered over her and grinned impishly, her eyes flashing brightly as the lie came easily to her lips "I just spotted my sister, she is such a clutz, thanks again Mister..." waving at him as she darted toward Tiel, hoping it was enough to get the man to move on and forget her.

She makes it quickly over to Tiel's side after darting in and out of several people, not realizing the enticing view she was giving the stranger if he was still paying attention to her, considering the lute rested obove her backside. At the child's look of pain, concern all but drips from her face as she silently curses the nobleman for being so caustic. Not even thinking to introduce herself as she checks the child over for bruises, cussing quietly to herself in the Eastern tongue that her brothers were so fond of using for just such a purpose.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 03, 2004 1:02 pm

Tiel suddenly found an eastern minstrel lad helping her up and looking over her wounds. Lost within her contemplation of the shogun's daughter and the pain of the chair digging into her side, the girl had missed all of the exchange between the lad and the man who had bumped into him. If his intentions hadn't been so obviously good, and she didn't have her father's chair to worry about, she would have bolted...the marketplace at its busiest was the best oppurtunity for thieves and merchants alike.

"A-arigato gozaimasu," Tiel stammered to the boy, assuming from his muttered words that he only spoke the tongue of the east, like many in Laburnum. Her pronounciation was as good as it could be without making any effort to disguise a western accent. "...doozo yorushiku onegai shimasu."

And there, in two phrases, she had used up about half of the eastern vocabulary her mother had managed to teach her before passing away. She knew that thanking the boy was probably the right thing to say, but the second, a ritual phrase asking for favorable treatment, might not be quite right. It was typically said when you first met someone, though, so maybe it would be okay. Tiel knew it was polite, at least.

As soon as she could, Tiel stood up the chair and pulled it over, checking it over for any breaks in the wood. It seemed to be no worse for the fall, a fact for which the girl silently thanked the spirits for. Her father would have her head if she broke one of his good pieces ten feet away from their market stall.

The first phrase she was familiar with and nodded in response, but she had to wrack her brain for the second one before figuring it out. Pointing out a vendor stall in the direction that she had come, she points "I think we need to get you someplace safe" not holding out much hope of her speaking western and in that lapse also forgetting her boy guise once more. She was a bit scatterminded after the months spent recovering in the temple of light.

Kadoria watched the girl seemingly more concerned with the furniture than her own injuries in a bit of puzzlement, things could always be replaced, people however could not. "pbttt...." Blowing the stray hairs from her face again as she motioned towards the stalls, they really needed to get out of the way in case any more noble idiots decided to ride a horse through a crowded market.

Once she got the girl delivered to wherever she was going she could see about using the last remaining gold to get her lunch and perhaps a pretty dress. She may have hid in a boy's outfit but she had no problems dressing as a girl should when it was needed. or more likely knowing her a mixture of the two. "Please, before your are injured further"

Quickly moving her through the street and depositing her beside her stall after helping her with the chair. " Please be more careful next time" Slipping the girl a gold coin before slipping off into the crowd again. Not wanting to be noticed till she was damned good and ready to be.

"My names Himmley whats yours and what are you doing out here all by yourself?"

"Icarus," He said without delay, "Icarus... Embersoul," with a content nod. He shifted the large walking stick onto his other shoulder and went on, "I'm looking for fire."

Well, he told the older boy what he was doing. But Icarus had the feeling his answers would plant new questions in the older fellows mind. Which was okay.

"We're going to the market place, there'll be fire at one of the towns forges, right? What's a forge without fire?"

The market place was drawing nearer, steadily, thanks to the quick, forced pace of the young Icarus.

Sey didn't miss the conversation between Alcyone and Lao - in fact it stuck knives into her gut with every word of reprimand that Lao had recieved. It was all her fault really - because of her selfishness and want of freedom, Lao had to suffer the consequences.

"As pretty as you are in your training robes," Hikaru said to his sister with a slight smile, "We need to get you a new dress to go to dinner... why don't we go pick one out, okay?"

"Un," Sey nodded mournfully, staring in the direction he pointed. A shop on the corner of the street caught her eye and she recognized it as a store her mother had frequented before; when she was still only a priestess. Several Kimono and Hanbok were lavishly displayed infront of the store, protected by wooden overhangs and overseen by a woman standing in the store's doorway welcoming guests and yelling out in all tongues about the fabulous dresses made inside.

"Oni-sama," Sey said, taking several steps towards the store and turning her head back to face him. "Asoko!" A petite hand peeked out from underneath her hakama and a small, dainty finger pointed towards the store. "Oka-sama visited there before. I'm going to go look inside~" Looking over Hikaru's shoulder and staring at Alcyone and Kouji, Sey gave a small bow to the Kunoichi and her student before smiling brightly and weaving in and out of the crowd crossing the street.

'Mouu... I wonder if I could do something nice for Zhu-san. Maybe I could find out if he wanted something-' Sey paused in the middle of a cluster of pedestrians and closed her eyes, clutching her hands together at her chest and calling out to light spirits in the area. A small bauble answered her call and Sey opened her eyes, cupping her hands around the ball of light and whispering a small command to it, giggling brightly as she finished. Lifting her hands into the air and watching the spirit hide in the rays of sunlight, Sey hoped that it'd learn something useful as she dashed towards the store.
