I can cook anything EXCEPT bbq...

And Judaism isn't sexist in the sense of inequality.

It is sexist in the sense of DIFFERENT roles for men and women.

Good or bad... I'm not sure.

I do have a few questions:

If women aren't obligated, but allowed to perform the mitzvot, why, in an Orthodox synagouge, do they never recieve an Aliyah?

Why are women not counted towards a minyan?

Why do women not lead services? (And I want a longer explanation than modesty. I want to know why it's immodest for a woman to lead services, or if the explanation is different than that.)

to answer ur first ans 3rd questions they're actually a few shuls in new york and israel that allow women to do both i heard about it in shul one shabos i forget if it was friday night or saturday morning. anway a couple who are members of my shul went to israel and stayed in different olaces while they were their and at one of the shuls they went to (all at least orthadox) they had women doboth get aliyahs and lead certian parts of services. and then my rabbi siad they're a few shuls in NYC that also allow women to do both. as for women being counted for minyan at conservitive and reform shuls they are counted. a few times when i worked at my old hebrew school the would pull me off my joso they would have a minyan for the people who had to say kaddish though i never davened with them i just stood in the sanctuary so the mourners could say kaddish.

isn't it nice how shuls can decide things like this for themselves?

Women are still important, but they're just different then men. For example, they bear children, whereas men do not. You just have different responsibilities, not worse ones. 3nodding

And to your first thought, a man has an X chromosome and a Y chromosome, while conversely, women have 2 X chromosomes. But, even then, to be partly masculine, you'd have to have a Y chromosomes; that is simply what makes a male. But even with one Y chromosome, you are counted as a male. (There's genetic diseases where males have multiple X chromosomes, but that's another story, and they are still males, nonetheless) Hope that helps! 3nodding

Some women think it's unfair that the women has to be the one that goes through labour sweatdrop ... What would happen if men could have children... That would pretty much screw up the system... sweatdrop .

and the sky would look nicer if it were pink, and water should taste like ginger ale, and everyone should win the lottery every day of their life. stare

The ability for men to have children sweatdrop . There are actually people working on this... confused . As stupid as it may seem, people actually fund those types of research... Of course, men will not be exactly like women, but it's got something to do with the tech of the artificial womb... G-d I hope they fail, and that it be an abysmal failure, just for good measure.

GAH That's just...not right! I mean, men aren't supposed to have kids....It's just...not done; it's not characteristic of a man. Why on earth would people fund research for that?! *goes off with Nathan, freaked out* sweatdrop

i suppose it's more of fertile, semi-transexual operation.

but the ability, or inability to birth children is what defines each gender. thus, by definition, men cannot birth children
