For a moment, Sophie thought she was in hot water: the zebra woman looked rather upset. But, as the moment passed, she laughed some relaxation into herself, grabbing a celery stick. Giving up meat hadn't bothered her too much, either: it was a lovely thing about being indifferent to food choice, and in Sophie's case, most everything.
She thought about what a kangaroo would do, but the only thing that came to mind was the rapping scene from 'Kangaroo Jack', and Sophie could certainly not rap. So, she watched the others with an amused look, a small fraction of her mind still pondering what a good kangaroo impression would be.
"You know, maybe we could have Aubrey order a salad cookbook or some kind of vegitarian diet pamphlet. I'm sure everyone else gets by somehow."

As Oz took a tentative bite of the hot-dog, heavily laden with onions, a thought crossed his mind. But his leg screamed at him first, starting to twitch at the knee joint.
"Isn't it the cafe's responsibility to cater for Islanders?" he thought aloud, mouth half-full of chewed hot-dog. "I've never seen a kitchen in my duplex, damn eggbox."
He finished the hot-dog, but decided against a second-helping. As much as he loved barbeque food, he was genuinely not hungry still, and would be eating out of politeness otherwise. But it was long before the hot-dog was making waves. Patting his stomach lightly and leaning on one arm in a semi-reclined pose, he took another swig of the bottled water.

Gaius snorted in distaste. "The best food is the kind you fix yourself. I managed to convince them to get me a make-shift stove and burners, but I'd much rather get an actual kitchen. At least we have fridges. I don't know what I'd do if I had to walk to the caf for supplies every time I wanted to cook."
He munched some more on the apple, dropping the finished core beside him and starting on the chicken leg. His lips curled up in reflex as the horse rejected the meat, but food was food and he was going to eat that chicken even if it killed him!
Not about to let the food get him down, Gaius grinned and waved his drumstick. "Are eagles all that closely related to chickens? It's not cannibalism if eagles eat smaller birds anyways, right?"

Aislinn had been keeping quiet through most of this, nursing her Fuzzy Navel and a bottle of water. When Gaius mentioned the food was ready, she snatched a salad out of it, contemplating whether or not to brave the chicken. It didn't look -too- full of fat or anything. And maybe this once she could live dangerously.
She pulled a piece off the grill and chopped it up on a paper plate, then settled it over the salad. Ah. Perfection.
The horse-woman slowly lowered herself to the ground a bit off from the others, simply enjoying her meal and letting them chat a bit. She felt a little awkward-- she was still half-human and, as far as she knew, would continue to be that way. She could only imagine what it must be like to barely recognize yourself in the mirror..her hair might've been gray, her ears equine, and her face a bit longer, but she was still mostly the same "Tangerine" she'd been in grade school.
Poor Oz with his recent transformation. And Sophie and Gloria were both fairly new to theirs as well if she remembered correctly.

Oz looked at Gaius a little skeptically. He had noticed the pegasus' struggles with cooking utensils, so it surprised him to learn that he wanted a full kitchen, with more sharp utensils and more equipment he could burn himself on. He shook his head lightly and laughed quietly through his nose. All the while, his stomach still made angry noises at him, and the large gorilla had resorted to rubbing his stomach, and plucking clumps of grass and idly lifting them to his mouth to chew. He was totally unaware he was eating the grass.
"I wonder if they'll do anything about my duplex, I mean I can't fit inside it anymore," he said curtly, more bitter towards the Island staff than anything else.
He watched Gloria wiggle. He had to admire her. She, like many of the others, were surprisingly chipper about their transformations. Or they hadn't let their transformations cahnge who they actually were. Deep down, Oz knew he'd need to do some serious soul-searching and character-building to try and find himself again.
"Meh, I'm happy to have someone else cook for me...well I was, I haven't set foot in the cafe in ages. Not since the-" he stopped mid-sentence.
CRUNCH!
A horrid taste filled Oz's mouth, and thats when he realised he'd been eating grass. His face stretched and contorted into disgust. Amidst the green foliage, he'd chomped on a bug. He turned a funny shade of grey and spat out the grass and bug bits viciously.
"YUK! Ugh! Pleh, pleh!"

"I dunno...I couldn't cook before I got on the island, so putting anything flammable in my duplex would likely just roast everyone else. So, in that sense, it's a good thing I don't have a kitchen."
She had been chuckling to herself, but her chuckle turned into an all out guffaw at the sight of poor Oz trying to spit out whatever had been in the grass. "Are you okay?" she managed to sneak in between giggles, reaching up to lay a paw on his shoulder.

A bit of pride snuck into Gaius's smile as Oz mentioned his troubles. "Hey, I may not be able to handle tongs, but I can still use a saw and hammer! If you want, I can try expanding your doorway for ya and maybe see if the staff would let me do an extension or something. I'm still an architect, after all!"
And then Gloria started dancing. It was... wow. Gaius couldn't help but stare. The way her hips moved, the flow of her bouncy mane, her shapely muzzle... he felt his heart jump into his throat. His ears and face burned, but he couldn't look away... he didn't want to...
CRUNCH!
Oz made a gagging noise and Gaius jerked his head around to look at the ape, worried that he was gagging on something. He noticed the green blades he was whiping from his mouth, and his gagging looked to be from disgust rather than from a clogged throat. Gaius watched with confusion and raised an eyebrow. "You okay? What happened?"

Oz certainly looked like he belonged in a cartoon. His over-the-top reaction to the bug was epitomised when he literally took hold of his tongue and tried to wipe it clean. His nostrils flared repeatedly in his exasperation, and he gave off all sorts of odd whines and grunts.
"Ugh god...I was eatin' the friggin GRASS!" he said with a pout, his bottom lip drooping slightly.
He continued to blow raspberries with his motuh and spit until he felt he had removed ever bug bit from his mouth and teeth. But the after-taste was awful! He reached for the nearest piece of fruit - a pear from the box - and just devoured it an attempt to rid himself bug-juice.
"Has anyone else done that...? Done something so totally...animal...and not realised....?" he enquired, the soured expression on his face making his nose wrinkle. He was beginning to feel as though he could no longer control himself. He dreaded the thought of what he'd do next...

Aislinn waved her hand, "Everyone does it, Oz, no worries." She finished up the bite of chicken she'd been munching on, "I even had the urge to eat grass a bit when I first started transforming. I'm lucky, though, not to have it as strongly as everyone else." At least her digestive system was still human, though anything below it had changed to equine.
She fretted a bit with her ponytail, unsure what to do now. This wasn't the party scene she was used to in social situations. What did people -do- at a barbecue, anyhow? Well, she'd just sit by and wait.

Sophie raised a paw and sighed: "Yep, I've foraged several times. The worst part? I'm only bothered by it if the grass is too crunchy." In truth, grass was probably the best thing for her new digestive system, but she still got in more salad and wheat than anything else.
"I'm just thankful that I only manage to catch myself eating where it's clean. Wouldn't want to learn 'watch out where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow' the hard way."

Gaius chuckled sheepishly, staring down at the half-eaten drumstick in his hoof. "I... yeah. I've done stupid things that I know I wouldn't normally do... after my last change, I was really messed up. It was like I couldn't even get a grip on who I was... I stumbled out of my duplex, somehow intending to go to the caf like I had after my previous times... and then I just crouched down on all fours and started tearing up the grass." He grimaced, remembering the unpleasant experience. "Way worse than you just were - full on mouth-fulls of torn grass. And I couldn't stop myself until I wasn't hungry anymore... I wanted to be sick, but I couldn't."
He sighed, shaking his head. "I have to admit I still have to fight the urge to graze... try to stem it with a good deal of salads."
"And, uh..." An embarassed smile spread across his face as he ran a hoof back through his hair. "Er, I've kinda started... rubbing against my stuff... like, marking it as mine, you know? I know that's probably weirder than weird..."

"That's exactly why I bite myself when I get the urge to graze," she said with an apologetic chuckle. Her last transformation had made it especially difficult to manage what her animal half wanted to do and what her human half told herself not to do - it was like having two people in one body, save one was beast and the other was a woman. Gloria couldn't help but wonder whether or not she would one day give into her animalistic behavior.
Would she throw away her humanity or would she simply forget it altogether? The thought made her feet slow and her eyes lowered to stare at her hooves.
Her arms began to swing, "I've been preening a lot lately, does that make you feel better?" - she smiled - "Coming from a girl who could care less about what people thought about her, I find it strange. I mean...I just nibble at myself sometimes."
Her hooves clipped against one another, "Er, but I've managed to keep from nipping at my friends whenever I see a hair - um, fur - out of place. That I'm grateful for."
But it's been really hard...

Oz stared open-mouthed at Gaius.
"You're doing what? Man, thats just creepy. I thought only cats marked their territory and crap," he said, having finally calmed down.
He still continued to shuffle his feet though, twiddling his foot-thumbs and flexing his toes. At least he wasn't alone in the odd animal behaviour. They could all be weird together. Well, except Aislinn. She had come off pretty lucky really, keeping a reminder that she was still human.
"Frig me, what am I going to do next? I know sod-all about gorillas..." he sighed and flopped onto his back in exasperation, looking up at the clouds.

Gaius ducked his head, ears flattening back in embarassment. "Well, it's not like I mean to! I just... find myself doing it when I'm bored... At least I'm not marking it like a dog!" He scrunched his nostrils at the thought.
"I dunno much about gorillas either... I never really visited any zoos. All I ever saw was a couple Discovery shows... and King Kong..." he added with a chuckle.
"Still, I can't help but see some of the other islanders and think I'm 'lucky' by comparison... I mean, I'm glad to be warm-blooded still, and have four limbs - well, SIX now, but wings only kinda count - and I'm able to walk on land easily enough. Sure, my hands aren't as nimble as they used to be... but at least they're still hands for the most part! And besides," he grinned, "I've learned to enjoy running, and this place has great beaches for it!"
