Scotty frowned. "I, er, I dinna think so," he said. "We were just passing through, an' the lass dared me."

Trouble looked smug. Well, you wouldn't have gone in, otherwise.

He cast a nervous eye over the gathering, taking in each and every one of the participants before looking back at Third. "I dinna ken that we did anything wrong to warrant a summons," he said nervously. "Possibly breaking an' entering but..."

Trouble snorted. Not *that* kind of summons, you silly boy, she told him.

"Oh!" Scotty looked a bit taken aback by this comment from his Daemon, and blushed a little at being caught out.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I dinna ken what made me say that. There's something important going on here, then?"

((throwing in a bit of Scotty's unconscious legal knowledge here, just incase you were wondering.))

Kate rolled her eyes from the wall, this would be interesting, she thought. She pulled herself off the secure wall just enough to stand. It was more polite to present yourself fully to the person you were talking with; this meant that leaning against a wall like you really couldn't care if they heard what you said, was out of the question.

Mind you she really didn't care, that would be shown in her voice, but at least she was showing respect. "Yes, there appears to be a slight misplacement of a few vital items to the functioning of this building," She held up her list from Pippin, the strange items and the scrolled words on the page asking for help locating them. "Did you also receive one of these notes?" She asked, hoping that the terms she used would be less complex and therefore more honestly interpreted.

Her fireflies were getting a little nerved at the time spent not looking. They flew around the jar starting to look just by well, looking around themselves in hope that something stood out to be different, out of place, something they might be looking for.

Scotty shook his head. "Nae," he said. As if suddenly emboldened, he added, "May I have a look?"

Trouble trotted over to peer at the paper that Kate held. Some sort of treasure hunt then? Sounds like fun. Where do we sign?

Scotty groaned, and hid his face in his hands. "Here we go again...."

It looked as if it was turning out to be one of those days. And he had hoped that this would have been over quickly, and then he could curl up at home with a good book. Not for the first time, Scotty wished that he might have been saddled with a less adventurous companion.

Like a rock, for instance.

"This is all well and good, but these paltry attempts at making petty conversation are making me ill. Can we go now?"

Ebony started talking as soon as she finished, answering her own question.

"Right then; I'm going this way."

Ebony stalked away from the group, her emotions seething.

Ugh. I HATE wasting time!

Glass said smugly, as he trotted along behind her.

Ebony's small leather boots drummed across the floor, dim and hollow sounding compared to the chiming of Glass's hooves.

Ebony reached a dead end, and Glass bumped in to her, causing both of them to sprawl in an ungainly mess on the ground.

"Um- how do we get in, pray tell?" Ebony shouted, hoping to attract the attention of someone, for the house was now ominously creaking and groaning, sounding almost like a contented being who had just eated its fill.

Or perhaps was getting ready to stuff itself silly.

Whatever the case, the house was indeed making itself be heard. It seemed to be waiting for something to happen...

((@Riannon: Glass can project his truth to other people, but he thinks its unbearably rude. He keeps that side of him firmly controlled... but if he's scared or angry or extremely happy(really, any time of heightened emotion) his control over the truth slips a little, and could possibly project.
Glass himself does not know just how far the truth extends... he does know that those pretty close to him have to tell the truth, and the farther you are away from him, the easier lying is. But you get an uneasy feeling doing so, compelling you to tell the truth.

hope that helps?))

Kate understood how Ebony felt, but she wasn't going to be nearly as pushy as that to quench her need to look. Instead she walked up to the horse and the boy. she handed the boy her crumpled peice of paper. A few things were already crossed off, not because she had already located them, but because she simply couldn't believe that they could exist for her to find.

The page was an utter mess, but it was readble. "This is our list," Kate explained, "You can look at mine if you want, It's best if we look together anyway, that way we arn't doubling over something uslessly. Wait here while I get Thought and Deception, then we can start." While the boy had her list she went back to the side table where she had left her fireflies.

She was almost there when she felt a tug to the right, then to behind her, then to the right again, then to the left. It was enough to make her stumble and fall. Right in front of a broken jar.

"Great." she blew a peice of hair out of her face.

Scotty gratefully took the paper from the girl, and began to read it. They hadn't been in the House for very long, but the boy decided that now that they had gotten themselves into this mess, he would try and help as much as he could.

Trouble peered over his shoulder, and nudged the paper with her nose.
Look. she told him. We've seen one of these.

Scotty wasn't paying much attention to his Daemon, however. His attention was drawn to where Kate lay sprawled on the floor. "Are ye alright, lass?" he asked politely. He moved over to where she was and held out a hand, just in case she needed help.

It was then that the full extent of Trouble's words began to sink in. "Wha'?" Scotty asked the mare, surprised.
Trouble snorted. Well, if you'd been paying proper attention, like you were supposed to.... All the same, she told him.

"Trouble said that she might have seen one of the items before," Scotty told the others - while trying to rack his brains to figure out which of the items on the list it might have been.

((Natsube : Yep, that helps. Thanks!))

"Why don't we retrace your steps?" suggested Third, secretly hoping they would end up back at the entry window so he could try and get the children out of the malfunctioning house. He found himself almost saying as much, but stopped, wondering what had possible possessed him to want to explain. He generally preferred to keep his own counsel and not leave the justifications behind his decisions open for discussion.

Concurring, Constant sniffed the air in Scotty's direction to pick up his and Trouble's scents, then moved her nose to the floor in the manner of any good bloodhound. She felt no compulsion to try and explain herself, she was not concealing anything. Even had she wanted to there was little she could communicate to the other Forgotten without Third speaking for her. She could have said something to the daemons, but in her mind Third was her commander and she left all conversational decisions to him.

Scotty found himself agreeing with the older boy - mostly because retracing their steps would involve leaving the House, which he was beginning to grow uneasy about.

Unfortunately, his daemon had other plans. No need for all of us to go, she told him. It's in the room where we first entered, I think.

"Aye - it didn't take us that long to get here," Scotty agreed. Then he suddenly realised which potential item the mare was referring to. "Ye have got to be kidding me, lassie."
Do you want to find these items, or not? came the reply.
"I'm nae going back for *that*, lassie. Do ye not remember what happened in there?"

Trouble shrugged. Fine. I'll go then. She shook her head. Probably wouldn't be much use, anyway - judging by what happened last time. She started to move off towards the open doorway.

The boy remained - clutching the doorframe like it was the last lifevest on a sinking ship - while the black mare trotted out into the corridor. Tell them to wait, she said. I won't be long.

Scotty shrugged helplessly, as his daemon headed off, before turning to the rest. "Trouble says that there'd be no point in all of us going," he said, somewhat forlornly. "She's gone to try and find it again. She says wait here."

((I'm saying that the room they started in wasn't that far from the room they're in now - so it shouldn't be too much of a problem for Trouble to go without Scotty, right?

And sorry Em - I guess Trouble wasn't feeling that cooperative xd ))

Ebony picked herself up off the ground, and walked haughtily over to where the others were milling around, discussing the items on the list. She heard the tail end of the conversation, but said nothing right away, collecting her thoughts as best she could.

Ebony glanced down at glass worriedly, and brushed her skirts absently, bending over to hide her face, knowing it betrayed her.

Do you know what it is?

Glass shook his head, but his heart continued to beat too fast, and Ebony felt her heart start to race as well. Ebony cleared her throat, and turned to Third.

"I find myself in a quandry; I have not returned to the library since I was first, ahem, conceived from within it, and I do not know how to return. Strength in numbers and all that is all well and good, but perhaps if we split up in to two groups we could possible find more? We do seem to have a large amount of items on this list, and I for one do not want to stay here any longer that absolutely neccessary. In fact, if not for the fact that I owe my very existence to Pippin, i believe that i would not be here," Ebony selfconsciously tucked her dark hair behind her ears, which were tinged a rosy pink, "it is the pitiful truth."

Ebony grimaced, and turned to Glass.

"You're not being very fair right now; I thought our agreement was that you kept your truth spells under control. I'm nowhere near you!"

Ebony was furious, but found her heart still beating too fast, keeping time with Glass's. It was no wonder that Glass was having so much trouble with his powers.

He was terrified.

Any reply from Third was cut off. Looking into the next room, Constant produced a warning bark and came darting halfway back towards the other Forgotten, unusually communicating to all the daemons. <<The place is wrong!>> she sent, barely an explanation, and to Third communicated the whole of the situation.

Third immediately abandoned Ebony's inquiry and went to join Constant in the doorway. The problem was simple. When Scotty and Trouble had come through the doorway, it was one room, and now it was another room entirely. Without anyone ever realizing it or feeling the slightest change, the House had rearranged itself in the blink of an eye.

Of course, this meant that whatever idea Third had about potentially getting the younger Forgottens out of this place was probably no longer possible.

((Rian -- just so long as you don't forget young Forgotten and their daemons should not be able to separate very far.

Dark, you can go ahead and come in from the room beyond this one and we'll say the room you come from is the top of the stairs leading down to the Library. Make any sense? XD Forgottens are in room A, Trouble just went into room B, and your characters are in room C which connects to B and is the beginning of the entrance to the library.))

Kate had gotten to her knees and was about to stand when she heard of the warning. Looking towards the door way she saw what was being commented on. The rooms were changing on them? Is that it? Or was it that their room was changing positions… either way she didn’t believe it. No way could rooms change on their own. It must just appear different from this angle, is all.

A tug upwards by her two glowing friends got Kate to finally stand, the fireflies went into her cupped hands for the time being until Kate could find another jar for them. However, she doubted that right now was such a time to search for such jar. The fireflies seemed to understand and crawled up her arms to sit in her hair. “So if the rooms aren’t stable,” She began, temporarily giving into the insanity to get some form of understanding going, “How exactly do you –” Kate stopped and winced at a sound that had just been made, “suggest we make it to the library?” she finished, hoping for no further distraction from their main goal.

Maybe it would have been a better idea for everybody to have gone together, after all.

Scotty promptly panicked. What if his daemon had - no, he didn't even want think about it. Besides, he would know if that had happened. Wouldn't he?

"Lass?" he called out nervously. "Are ye alright?"

To his extreme relief, he got a reply. I'm fine. And I've found the thing.
"Never mind about *that*," interrupted Scotty. "Can you get out?"

The sooner she was out, the sooner they could leave. This place was seriously beginning to give him the creeps.

I don't think so, Trouble told him, There's a doorway, but it doesn't lead back to you. I think it goes somewhere else.

Scotty plucked at Third's sleeve, feeling like a little boy again. "Trouble's got the, er, thingie," he said, " but she can't get back to us." He looked up at the older Forgotten, hopefully."What should we do now?"

((I hope I've got the room configuration right sweatdrop ))

Deep in thought, Third did not immediately answer. He reached out and touched the wood of the doorway. He had some experience with shifting realities. He had, after all, created one in his childhood.

Third closed his eyes. Manipulating reality here was out of the question, but all he needed to do was sense reality, not change it. In a way the House was an extension of the Library, and the Forgotten Documents were extensions of the Library, all of it stitched together from the same material.

Constant sat down at Third's feet, waiting for instruction. Her bonded merely stood very still and very quiet, breathing slowly.

Still hanging onto the frame for dear life, Scotty watched the older boy silently.

He hoped that Trouble would be alright. The mare hadn't been gone for more than a few minutes, and already he was missing her. Probably would have made some clever and snarky comment right about now. Or maybe an escape plan. Or both.

As much as he often wished that she would just leave him sometimes, Scotty was beginning to realise that life with Trouble wasn't all that bad. Sometimes, it was even fun.

I'm not quite dead yet, boy, came a familiar voice into his head. Although it does make a nice change to hear you think *such* nice thoughts about me. Trouble mentally chuckled. Perhaps I should get stuck in strange rooms more often.

"Ye wish, lassie," he muttered. All the same, the boy did seem a little happier and calmer.

And could that have been a small smile on his face?

Third opened his eyes and with unusual lack of certainty said, "I think this way." He pointed through the door and looked at the others, as if waiting for some better suggestion.
