A new kind of friend? Wren was a little worried. Only a little, mind you, and he honestly had no clue what would make this particular situation better. The baby in his arms was sniffling quietly, which was a change from the bawling that had been going earlier. No matter what he tried to do, there was no pleasing or making the fox-child happy. He simply wouldn't crack a smile at all and the crying had only really stopped when he had fallen asleep.
So Wren had left the house, the baby in tow, in hopes that maybe it would calm things down. Lafe, as he was apparently to be called ( the name curtesy of Hawk's Eye, who couldn't leave well enough alone ), was rubbing his eyes with a hand, sniffling every so often. He kept a grasp on his tail with the other hand and squirmed in Wren's arms, not entirely comfortable with being held. There really wasn't a choice in the matter.
Trying to hold in the grumbles, Wren went inside the building in front of him. As far as he knew, it had something to do with Legends. These nighttime walks were becoming a bit of a ritual, the only real escape Chandra had from Kiran lately. Chandra was in her own little mind as she stepped into the HQ again and removed her coat. It wasn't until she had hung her outer garment up that she noticed someone else was in the room. "Hello?" she said suspiciously, surprised to see someone. As she did, a wave of sad recognition washed over her from that damn wisp and she gasped, trying not to cry. She was already on edge, or it wouldn't have even bothered her. "Er, hi." Wren said, somewhat surprised that someone else was around. There was flash of interest and surprise from Hawk, who was lurking in the shadows near his feet. Wren ignored it and stepped further into the room, shifting Lafe in his arms. "I'm Wren," he said slowly. Though, just what was Hawk interested in?
Lafe merely let out another sniffle, hand tightening it's grip on his tail. His face was hidden against Wren's chest now, ears cocked back. No, he wasn't a happy baby."Why are you here?" Chandra questioned, fighting off the waves of feeling coming from the wisp hiding behind her knee. Strangers did not belong in the Legends HQ. She crossed her arms over her chest and stood her ground, wondering what sort of child the man held. Demare's wings twitched a little bit as he opened his eyes, his nap having been disturbed by the sudden noises. How long had he been asleep...? Somewhere inbetween the last switch and now, obviously... because the entire day seemed to have gone by. Sleepily, he sat up from the couch, lifting his hands to rub at his face as he tried to place the voices within the room. One of them wasn't very familiar... an older man? The other was a young girl, he knew... and it sounded a little familiar."... because I thought, perhaps, Lafe," Wren ignored the subtle mental jab from Hawk about calling the baby that, and the fact he was floating up towards his shoulder, "would quiet down if I took a walk with him." He shifted on his feet, careful with the baby. No need to get him going again. "Besides, I thought that maybe this would be the place to get an answer or two." Great, he needed somebody to be suspicious of him. Did he look evil? ... well, okay, there were demon horns on his head, but come on.
Lafe's ears twitch at the sound of another voice, finally paying attention. His head turned slightly, part of his face hidden by his clothing, but one silvery-blue eye focused on Chandra for a moment."The baby is Lafe." Chandra said, repeating what the man had said to confirm it to herself. "I assume he is a Legend then." A tear leaked out of her left eye and she blinked, sending it running down her pale cheek. Otherwise her face was expressionless as she studied Wren. She decided he probably wasn't capable of doing anything with her name. "I am Chandra," she said, uncrossing her arms finally. "It's the only thing I can think of," Wren replied, "if only because of the lack of answers." He shook his head, eyes wondering about the room. Was there someone else. A pulse from Hawk seemed to give the impression -- and why was there a tear running down that girl's face? She didn't seem sad.
"Nice to meet you, Chandra." At that, Lafe let out quiet cry, fingers tightening around his tail. "No, kiddo, don't start again." Wren was all most instantly smoothing his fingers through Lafe's hair, an absent gesture to scratch his ears not achieving anything at all.
There was something wrong to Lafe, something missing, but it wasn't like he could get that across.Demare eased backwards to rest against the back of the couch, his eyes shifting to look toward the door where the voices were coming from. Who was that man, anyway? Another Legend guardian...? He recognized Chandra from before (though not from last night, since Clare couldn't see who Demian was talking to), but she seemed to look a little uncomfortable. Had something happened? And what was she speaking to...? He could hardly make out the baby from where he was sitting, but the child made no effort to move or make his presense known in case the two were talking about something in private."You do not appear to be doing a very good job of comforting the child." Chandra pointed out, wiping the tear off her chin with a quick brush of the back of her hand. "Would you like me to sing him a song? Children like music." Chandra reached into her tunic and pulled out her flute in a fluid motion, hoping a song might soothe the wisp as well. It's insistent empathic projection was starting to wear on her. "I usually am, that's the thing." Wren shook his head, giving Chandra an awkward smile. "Well, you could try that. It'd be welcomed." He moved closer and shifted Lafe a little in his arms, in hopes he would hear the music and calm some.
Lafe squirmed again, ears twitching once more at the sound of music, and the crying continuing. There were tears in his eyes, and his fingers were holding on tightly to his tail, all most as if it was a security blanket. The baby was sad, all most, in a way. But the music was distracting, somehow, and he squirmed until both eyes were actually focusing on Chandra.Chandra finished the song quickly and put the flute away. Fighting the wisp was draining any energy she had arrived with. She blinked a couple times in Lafe's direction before making her goodbye. "I have to go," she explained to the child. "You are welcome to visit if you wish." She snatched behind her at the wisp and brought it up in front of her face, opening her hand so that Wren and Lafe could see it. "If you do, do not do whatever it is that is upsetting my shadow fiend. Her emotions are uncomfortable for me." Demare winced as the baby began to cry even more, his right hand coming up to cover his ear. Obviously, Demian didn't care for the music and screeching it seemed, but Clare felt a bit of concern. Deciding to leave his temporary sanctuary that was the couch, the child stood and made his way cautiously to the others, noting the appearance of the baby in the man's arms as he drew closer. Ears and a tail... They weren't the same, but this made him think of Manior.
He stood watch for a moment, moving his hands to fold them behind his back as he waited for Chandra to finish her song. However, the song was done and the girl was gone before he could listen well enough. Shadow fiend...?"... ah, my apologies. I did not realize you had one." Wren said slowly, peering at the wisp in Chandra's hand. Could it be Lafe? Or himself? "Mine does not do the same, but I'll see if I can not cause it again." Hawk's Eye actually floated forward, as if he was trying to peer at the other wisp there in Chandra's grasp before she departed.
Lafe had gone back to the quiet sniffles, once again rubbing his nose. There was intelligence in his eyes, watching Chandra, all most an understading that she had to go. Leaving, but no one was coming.
"You take care, though." Wren finally said, since Chandra was departing. "We're likely to run into each other again, if we've both got wisps."With the girl gone, though her music hadn't really soothed the babe in his arms, Wren sighed. Except -- well. "... er, sorry. I didn't see you walk up," he said to Demare, turning so that he could face the boy. Hawk's Eye was all ready floating back to the darker parts of his shadow, not really interested at the moment. Though these Legend were curious.
Lafe was rubbing at his eyes again with a hand, the tears still there, and not wanting to go away. There really wasn't anything to be done about it. The music had helped a little, however, the crying stopping to sniffles. Though the sight of another made him shrink back in Wren's arms some, simply because he wasn't use to running across them yet.Demare couldn't help but chuckle a little bit, a slight smile curling onto his lips. "That's... all right," he assured the man, moving a hand from behind his back to rub the back of his neck. "I seem to have that affect on people."
Now that he was much closer, Demare noticed that the baby didn't seem very comfortable with the presense of others. The way he shrunk back like that... Was he frightened, or just shy? Deciding to keep his distance to be safe (and so Demian wouldn't grow upset with the crying), he waved his fingers a little bit at Lafe in a hello before placing his hand back at his side.
"I don't believe I've ever seen you two around here," he admitted, speaking a little more softly. "Are you ne--...oh my. Forgive my mannors, I didn't introduce myself. My name is Demare, and I believe you said his name was... Lafe?""That and I'm a little unobservant with this kid." Wren shook his head, smiling awkwardly once more and wrinkling his nose in hopes of moving his glasses up a little. Really, he was more observant than this, but ... well. Lafe had him wired the wrong way.
"And, well, I've never been before. Neither has Lafe, for that matter. First visit." Not a good one, either, from the sniffles. Wren cast a worried look at Lafe, who had gone still at the moment, face partially hidden now. There was only a small swish of his tail at Demare's wiggling fingers, paying attention to him somewhat. His scarf hung over the side of Wren's arm, card dangling from it.
"Eh, no need to worry about manners. I forgot too. I'm Wren," the demon-ish looking man replied easily, "and the not-so-happy bundle in my arms is Lafe."
Then, of course, there was blue gem that was concealed in wisps of shadows in his shadow, but that was better ignored. Irritating thing."A pleasure to meet you both," he said with a nod, his wings fidgetting a little bit. "And... er... welcome to the headquarters? I don't come here TOO often, but normally there are more people around then this. It seems so quiet lately, however, and it worries me."
Demare felt a little bit a relief as he noticed the child's tail flick in response to his wave, putting him at a bit of ease. Perhaps it really was just a shyness that was greater than his own.
"I heard you meantion something about looking for answers. I... might not be able to answer your questions, but perhaps I could be of some help anyway?"It did seem rather quiet, but Wren wasn't all that bothered by it. Neither was Lafe, though the quiet was broken by his sniffles and the words of those around him. He tugged on his scarf a little, trying to get it into his grasp properly. Something to hide behind.
"I answered one on my own, that Lafe is a Legend, but ... I do not think the others can be answered," Wren said, giving Demare a small smile as he loosened one hand and picked up the scarf so that it was all with Lafe. The baby looked a little more comfortable at that. "Lafe here, he won't seem to put an end to the tears, except when sleeping. It's just sniffles now, but it was crying -- and yesterday." There was no explaining the abrupt all most screaming from Lafe yesterday.
"I've done just about everything to try and calm him, make him happy, and it doesn't seem to be working." Wren finally pushed his glasses up properly, glancing down at the sniffling Lafe and used his fingers to brush away stray tears. A face was made at the touch, but accepted all the same.Demare listened, curious as to what was upsetting Lafe himself. As a baby, he remembered how he'd be scared of complete darkness, and how uncomfortable being around those he didn't know was. Perhaps for Lafe...
"Well, is there anything in your home that might possibly be scaring him...? Or perhaps a better question would be, how long ago did he arrive?""Well, I'll give you that some of the house occupants can be scary, but I don't think there's anything that's scaring him ..." Wren didn't think that was anyone in the house, at least. Mael had tried to mess with Lafe's ears, but that quickly ended with a scream from the new baby. Never mind Wren was quick to try and make sure everything was perfect. No need to upset new kids, and all.
"He arrived yesterday afternoon, or that was when I found him. He's been crying one way or another since." At least talking outloud about this helped to get the gears running in his brain. This had him slightly frazzled."Ever since you found him?" Demare questioned curiously. "...Was... he quiet when you found him?""I wouldn't have noticed him, except for the fact he was sniffling a little." Hiccuping too, but that was something else. "But he was otherwise quiet, not really awake when I found him. Thought it was a runny nose or something, to be honest." Wren shrugged his shoulders, in a manner that said he was at a loss. He shifted Lafe in his arms again, only to get a silver-blue stare in return and a tail hitting his chest before being caught by small hands once more.Demare thought about this information for a moment, lifting a hand to run his fingers through his hair, scratching the back of his head a little bit. From the sounds of it, the baby had already been upset when Wren found him... which could be understandable, since the kid was alone. It almost sounded like some form of abandonment.
"Perhaps he's upset because he's not used to company?" he suggested, resting his hand behind his neck. "I know it may sound odd, and please don't think I'm being rude, but if you merely found him... He just might not be used to you yet. He appears to have calmed down right now, but he began to cry while Chandra was here, didn't he? I wouldn't put it past that if I came any closer, he could do the same. If he only arrived yesterday, then I would think that might be a possibility, sir..."Lafe was otherwise calm, eyes half-way closed, a stray tear at the corner of one eye and he only sniffled every so often. It could've been because he was working his way towards being asleep, but he did seem calmer.
"That could be it." Wren nodded, applying it to what he all ready knew. "It is certainly possible, just a first with the children." Then again, Lafe was unique it seemed. "Though there doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason with the crying. It just happens, but perhaps he's not use to the surroundings." He could hope that was it, believe it was, because if it wasn't, Wren was at a loss. He idly scratched one of Lafe's ears and it twitched slightly, the baby shifting in his arms a little.
"And you can call me Wren, sir's not necessary." Formal wasn't really required with him, despite things. "Nothing's rude if it's helping me figure out what's wrong with the little guy," said Wren with an easy smile."Ah..." Demare rubbed his neck a little bit, a light blush washing over his cheeks. "S-sorry... I haven't had much interaction with adults since I grew... I'll try to remember that."
"I really hope that he'll be okay, however," he added, dropping his hand and looking to the baby again. "I imagine he's shy... so it could take a bit getting used to things. But, you seem awful nice, so perhaps things will get better soon?""Mmm. Adults are finicky, but you're a polite young man, so you'll do well." Despite the fact that there seemed to be two different facets to the boy, now that Wren really looked at him.
"Thanks," Wren said quietly, for the inadvertant compliment, "and I think things will get better, once he's adjusted. Just a shock to the system that he's like this." There was a small pause. "... I think he's very shy, with the way he behaves." ... and perhaps so was who he was talking to, but that was something else.
Lafe's eyes opened up a little more, not just bare slits of eyes seen, and he looked about the room. For a moment, he focused on Demare, ears twitching as both the boy and the other spoke, before he merely let out a small yawn, followed by a quieter sniffle. Not so bad, perhaps. The crying was over for now and he was worn out from it and the day. Lafe squirmed in Wren's arms, trying to hide his face somewhere to get comfortable. If he couldn't get out of being held, he'd make use of it.
"... and, I think I may have to go. To get him to bed." Wren chuckled, very quietly. "Left home to see if a walk would help, looks like it did." He shifted Lafe gently. "Maybe next time you see the kid, he might not be as ... well, as he is now." It was a good hope.Demare smiled a little bit, unable to help but think how cute Lafe was hiding like that. A part of him wondered if Manior was the same way when one held him... and then he began to wonder how everyone was doing. Were they worried? ...Did they even notice he was gone...?
Thinking for a moment, the halfling reaching his left hand behind his back, and carefully plucked a loose feather from his white wing. Bringing his hand back around, he held the delicate feather out to the man, a silent request from Demian. (Something about those demon horns...)
"I don't know if it will matter to him much, but could you give this to Lafe when he wakes up?" he asked quietly so he wouldn't disturb the baby. "I... don't do this very often, but it's a gift. Perhaps to assure him that when he is comfortable, there are those that would like to be his friend."Well, that was -- Wren smiled widely and nodded his head at the youngster's actions. It had been a while since he had seen such a purely white feather, from what looked like an angel's wing. Not that, demons ran into angels often or anything like that. Riiiiight.
"It's the thought that counts, or something like that." Wren's voice was just as quiet as he spoke and then reached out to take the feather from Demare. "I'll make sure to give it to him when he wakes. It's a very thoughtful gesture. Might make him more comfortable when he gets older." A small glance down was given at the sleeping baby. Yeah, he could give this to him when he woke. Didn't seem the sort to stuff it in his mouth or the like.Demare's smile widened, feeling he'd done something good for once. "If it does, then I'm glad to be of help. I certainly would like to see him again some time, so long as I don't make him uncomfortable. I'd hate to be a reason he's upset is all."
Lifting his scarf from around his shoulders, he shifted the material so it would wrap around his neck instead, like it normally did. "I need to be heading home myself, now... I'm afraid my guardian might be worried about me.""I can understand that. It's why I'm worried about him crying all the time. It won't do any good if none can get close, but maybe in the future -- so I can bring him by and he can see you again, since you gave him something and all." Wren shook his head, glancing down once more. Yes, Lafe was fast asleep, so it was best to get him home before he woke up and the water work got going again.
"And go home." He grinned. "It's nice talking to you, you're a sweet kid, but if somebody's worried -- it's better to get there sooner rather than later." Tilting his head towards the door, Wren started walking that way so that he could head out. "But take care, too," he added after a moment and then made sure Lafe was properly held in his arms so that he could head on out. That and secure the feather so that it would be fine before he could put it up until later."You as well, si--...I mean, Wren," Demare responded as he headed toward the door as well, waving to the two. "I look forward to seeing you both again in the near future."

Simple Thoughts Wren was in the Legend HQ, sitting on the couch he wasn't familiar with, but trying to get comfortable one way or another. Lafe's crying had intensified over past few days. Though he had a habit of working himself up, then falling asleep, it had left Wren without much sleep -- though it didn't look like it.
Lafe was currently in his crying mode, Wren sitting on the couch with the fox-child in his lap, singing ( surprisingly well ) under his breath to try and soothe him. It just wasn't working, but he was trying, because every so often Lafe would focus on him.
It had worked last time he had come here, the baby had gone quiet and fallen asleep, but now -- with this walk -- it just wasn't working. It was the oddest thing really. Halo had been inside playing with Otium and Mael (well trying to.. Mael wasn't cooperating yet) and realized she was on the last couple of diapers for the children. Wren had just gone out with the new one, Lafe, to try and soothe his crying. And of course Wren had forgotten his cell phone.. The woman left the kids under Freyr's watchful eye and headed out in hopes of either catching Wren or picking up the diapers herself.. and as she opened the door.. something was watching her with glowing purple eyes through the darkness. The baby boy was seated on the doorstep, unaffected by the nighttime cold, and just staring at her with his remarkable lavendar eyes. His skin was pale as death and his hair was so black that it blended with with black coat he wore. His tiny hands rested on top of a box containing 4 compartments. He didn't make a sound. Just stared. Now here she was. She'd never even got the diapers! This baby had shown up and by the dust on his coat he appeared to have crawled straight up the stairs of the house! "Wren?" Halo looked around the Legend HQ for her husband a bit uneasily. What was it with kids just showing up at their house? Especially creepy evil looking ones... Though she admitted he was cute. "This baby followed me home." Alex was still against the woman, still holding the wooden box in his arms. Demare cautiously peered into the headquarters, his bi-colored eyes glancing about to see if he could find anyone familiar. His ears had immediately filled with the sounds of a baby crying, however, and it was a little hard to concentrate...
"What the hell is that racket?" Demian demanded, the two red eyes open slightly. He could see, but things looked very different through the strange colored eyes.
"I believe it's quite obvious," Clare sighed, stepping into the lobby quickly and standing away from the door in case he might be in anybody's way. Looking around again for a moment, he recognized the two on the couch. "It seems Wren and Lafe are here today."
"That little cry baby?" the demon snorted. This trip was a waste of his time.
"Demian, give it a rest..." Oddly enough, the child wasn't in the mood for his other half's antics today. "You've been complaining all day how you wanted to get outside, and you've done nothing but whine all the way here. If you're so angry about everything, why don't you just allow me some peace for a bit?"
"Because THAT would be too easy."
"Right, I forgot... You have to make my life difficult."
Taking one more look around the lobby, Demare noticed someone unfamilar. A woman speaking with Wren, carrying a pale child in very dark clothing. A pitch black that just seemed to eat all the light around the baby, in his eyes, and a dark feeling that just leaked into the air. Who was that...? Curiously, the halfling Legend slowly made his way closer to the couch, his bi-colored eyes fixated on the child in question. No, see, they had kids that related to -- no, that wasn't something that needed to cross Wren's mind. The red-head all most instantly stopped his singing to Lafe, looking up at Halo with wide eyes, wider behind the lenses of his glasses.
"He followed you home?" Wren asked slowly, eyes looking down from his wife's face and to the baby in his arms. He looked, well, evil, but his eyes were rather compelling. They glowed, even reminded him of -- Wren shook his head, derailing that train of thought. "Anything with him? Besides that box?" As in, was there something to give them a hint about what was going on.
And somehow, Wren had missed it, but the moment Lafe squirmed around enough in his arms to focus on the other baby, the crying stopped. It died down to sniffles and Lafe was all ready nuzzling up against Wren's shirt absently to fix that. Darkened silver eyes were focused on this new baby, intently.Halo looked at the abrupt end to the crying and blinked. "He stopped.." She said idly before shaking her head. "Well we are running out of diapers.. You know you were supposed to pick some up.. But I opened the door and he was staring at me. Just like that. And he had this box. It has carvings in the lid but I can't open it. I tried. His coat was all dirty. I think he crawled right up the steps. Some kid huh?" The little boy stared at Lafe and then a small smile spread over his face and he raised a tiny hand and made a grabby wave at him. He started to squirm in Halo's arms to be brought over, so she complied and walked to the couch. "He --" Wren blinked, torn between looking at the new child and Lafe who wasn't crying, and helpfully drying his nose on his shirt. Gee, thanks. Lafe was quiet though, no longer crying, eyes all most completely dry. It was, well, amazing.
And was that Demare that had just come in? Wren gave a curious look, about to say something to both him and Halo before Lafe let out a noise that sounded suspiciously happy -- HAPPY -- particularly as the Halo drew closer. He was squirming rapidly in Wren's arms, tail swishing back and forth, and he all most crawled out the demon's grip.
"... uh." Wren just blinked, not quite sure."I think we're missing something." Halo was really taken by surprise by the children's reactions. She sat down on the couch and set the child in her arms down next to her, between she and Wren. "I guess I better name him." She glanced over at Demare and offered the strange boy a smile. As he was noticed, a small smile curled up on Demare's lips, lifting his left hand to wave his fingers in a hello.
"Forgive me... I hope I'm not interrupting anything," he appologized, his wings fidgetting a little bit as his eyes turned down toward the two babies. Interesting... He never imagined the company of another child would calm Lafe down."It's all right, Demare, just ... um. Another addition to the family, I guess." The demon spoke to the boy, giving him a smile before looking towards his wife and trying to wrangle the squirming child in his arms. "This is Demare, Halo, I met him when I was here last time. I mentioned him to you."
Hawk's Eye, of course, found the perfect time to interrupt them. The wisp moved forward, out of the comfort of Wren's shadow, towards the new baby. It was another interesting baby, one that probably wouldn't make grabby hands at him -- he hoped.
Wren stared suspiciously at Hawk's Eye, feeling the curiousity and the amusement. He all most tensed, expecting something, but nothing came, and instead he spoke up to Halo, finally coming up with an idea for a name.
"Maybe you should name him --"
The campfire of the traveling pair was approached slowly, all most cautiously, as if the one approaching was cautious of actually revealing himself. Except the ones that were watching him didn't show any emotion on their faces that spoke of ill will or dislike, except for the curiousity on the face of the hooded figure.
"You've got us at a disadvantage, since we're sure you know our names, but we've no clue what yours is." The elder spoke, giving a glance to his traveling companion. The hood slipped down, a glimpse of silver eyes, but more importantly somebody playing with a white tail. He merely nodded in agreement, still watching the newcomer.
Taking a breath, that wasn't really necessary, he spoke. "Alejandro. My name is Alejandro." And then, he really stepped forward into the light of the campfire to join the two for the evening.
"Alejandro?" Wren voiced aloud, dazed for a second, all most instantly glaring at Hawk's Eye. The little thing was about to get hit, he didn't need to get bombarded when he hadn't gotten any sleep. Except in the moments that it took for the vision to flicker and fade in his mind, Lafe had all ready scrambled out of his lap and towards the space between him and Halo. He paused, eyes peering at the other, and reached out to pat him with a hand cautiously, before a small smile was on his face."Hi Demare.. I'm Halo, Wren's wife." She waved and motioned for him to come over before looking at the children. The little boy looked up at Wren when he said the name and apparently Halo took that as confirmation that the name fit. "Alejandro it is then. Thats a mouthful though. Alex for short." She reached down and fluffed the little boy's black hair. Alex set his box aside finally and clapped his tiny hands together, smiling widely to show a pair of pretty hazardous looking fangs in his mouth. "There," Demian blurted out, the red eyes opening a little more. "That thing right there..."
"What are you talking about...?" Clare asked, his eyes searching for something unknown.
"That little shadow... Don't you see it?"
"...No, I'm afraid I don't. Lately, I haven't been seeing ANY shadows, remember? It's like my eyes are purposfully blocking out darkness for some reason."
"That's because you're not controlling your power. The light's eating all of the shadows."
"I'm... not quite sure what you mean."
"Oh, forget it! I'll explain it later!"
Demare blinked a few times, a bit puzzled by Wren's suggestion to name the baby. There was something odd about that... like it wasn't something that just came to him. Never the less, he smiled once more to Halo.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am," he said politely, bowing his head a little bit as he stepped over to stand next to the couch."... yeah, yeah," Wren muttered, rubbing his head and swatting at the wisp that was all ready floating back to the bits of his shadow. "Blame Pierce," he finally said aloud to Halo, obviously meaning Hawk's Eye. Which meant explaining more later. He sighed, but finally gave Demare a warmer smile. "It is a good name though," a small admittance.
Lafe, of course, wasn't paying attention. He had settled comfortably into a nice little niche between Wren and Alejandro. He didn't even looked phased by the fangs ( and if he had been, it wouldn't have showed ), but instead wriggled forward to get closer, tail still swishing from side to side and batting both Wren's side and Alex's shoulder. He let out that happy noise of his again, something of a growl and a coo at the same time. Certainly ... interesting.Halo looked at them both and shook her head. "I'm stumped." Bloodstone of course peered up over her shoulder when Hawk's Eye had appeared and then sunk back down into being hidden. Thankfully she hardly got horrible side effects from her fiend. She decided, since the boys were fine, to look at Demare. "You're a legend too Demare, I assume. It's good to meet you. Especially with Alex. Someone he can get to know.. well besides Lafe here. They seem to uh.. well have hit it off well." Alex reached his hand to Lafe's tail and petted it nicely, running his fingers through the thick white fur. Demare nodded to confirm her assumption. "Yes, I'm also a Legend," he explained. "A... little different from the others, but the same none the less. And Alex sounds like a nice name for him." I get the feeling he and Demian might get along... I guess we'll see.
The halfling couldn't help but chuckle a little bit at the two babies, nearly overwhelmed with how cute they looked. Did Neko used to think that about him when he was a baby himself...? True enough, she would always call him her little angel, but somehow it was hard to imagine if he'd ever been like that.
"It looks like they'll be good friends... I wonder if they knew each other in the past?"
"It's possible."
"If they were, I guess that makes them a little like us, doesn't it? Except, they were born seperate..."
"...It kinda makes me jealous."
"What?"
Demian didn't reply. What'd he mean by that...? Clare decided not to question it for now, as he didn't want to start arguing here. No, see. It wasn't horrible side effects. Hawk's Eye was revenge and that was that.
"... you're stumped, sure." Wren sighed, lifting his glasses and rubbing his eyes a bit. "This just makes my brain shut down completely." He shook his head, leaning back against the couch and only glancing at the two babies out of the corner of his eye then to Demare, before closing his eyes for a brief moment to rest. They were all fine, and -- no -- he wasn't going to sleep.
Lafe's small smile widened a little, tail slowly it's rapid movement since Alex had started to pet it. His ears twitched, another little happy noise made.Halo smiled at the babies but leaned over to kiss her husband on the temple, "Take a nap love. We'll live without you." Alex looked up at his new mother as she leaned over himself and Lafe but just went back to putting his attention on the other. He moved his hand from the tail to grab a fox-ear very gently. He rubbed his fingers over the soft fur and then into the other's hair. Halo turned to Demare. "You can come over and see them if you'd like. Probably easier to see them now that there isn't any crying." She chuckled. Demare blushed slightly, feeling a bit embarressed. "Ah, s-sorry... I'd just wanted to give them their space," he explained, smiling a little bit as he moved to stand in front of the couch, then took a seat on the floor where he wouldn't be in Halo or Wren's way.
He seemed to be intent on watching the two, his left wing ruffling its pure white feathers while the black leathery bat wing curled around his right shoulder a little bit. He could feel Demian's annoyance with him being here, but Clare was just happy to have a little silence in his mind. Even the dagger at his side was generally calm, as if it were resting.
A part of Clare wanted desperately to speak with the two new legends. To speak, and be understood... However, he remembered what it was like to not be able to talk back properly to those around him, struggling to say simple words like 'hello'. It couldn't hurt, though, right? To just say something...
"Hello..." he started rather softly, a little slowly, as he smiled a little bit. "My name is Demare."Wren might've murmured something, but apparently he was able to doze off that quickly. His glasses slid from being on his forehead to actually being on his nose properly. For the moment, he was out like a light. Besides, it would just take a prod to get him going.
Lafe only sunk down some when Halo leaned over to mess with his father, as it were. Of course, he also had to tilt his head to the grabbing of his ear, but unlike with Mael, there wasn't an ear piercing baby-scream let loose. Instead, he just giggled, head tilting and pressing up into the hand.
His ear cocked in Demare's direction at the sound of speech, one silvery-blue eye also looking at him in curiousity. He, vaguely, remembered this one.Alex turned his head to look at Demare but it was sort of a side look because he'd moved over to lean up and gnaw on Lafe's ear. Apparently he was one of those babies that shoved everything in his mouth. He nibbled and gnawed and looked quite unphase that he'd get fur in his mouth. He didn' know Demare.. though he was interesting to look at. Halo made a face. "Oi.. Alex.. Fur." But the baby continued. She just shook her head. "Kids." Demare only blinked a few times as he watched the child gnaw on the other's ears, trying so hard not to laugh. This one was... funny. And a part of him was reminded of For'mir back at home.
"I... I guess he likes to chew on things...?" he tried to reason, still amused by the action.Lafe's tail thwacked Alex, all most as if saying 'Oi!', but the fox-child only squirmed a little before letting it continue on not bothered. By that point, though, he was all ready crawling to situate himself somewhat on and against Alex. Like any canine might do if it was petted properly and could do.
His eyes, while briefly focused on Alex, went back to Demare. Mostly looking at his face, as if he could figure it all out by just looking."I hope he doesn't start gnawing on the furiture or something. I don't need fang holes in the apholstery." Halo chuckled and glanced at the boys as Lafe climbed all over Alex. ".I think they will be a handful already." Halo picked up the wooden box Alex had come with and looked all over the top and sides. Alex gnawed and didn't care that Lafe was crawling all over him. He looked at Demare innocently.. but it made you wonder how innocent he really was. Clare immediately recognized that look. Demian used to do that all the time when they were still alive... The innocent, decietful look, right before he'd smack him in the back of the head. Sadly enough, Clare had fallen for it every time.
He couldn't help but chuckle a little bit, however, and he reached a hand cautiously over to see if he could pat Alex on the head.Somehow, some of the words the seemed to come through his partially asleep mind registered, and Wren was rubbing at his eyes to wake up. "... not to," he yawned, "interrupt or anything, but somebody mentioned diapers needing to be bought?" He glanced at Demare, giving him a small sheepish grin -- probably for falling asleep, but who knows?
Of course, looking at Alex and Lafe, well, that just lead to him blinking rapidly. "Er. He chews. Lafe doesn't mind ..." It was amazing, really. The baby wasn't crying -- and sweet not so kind deities, he could sleep again. "I'll go get them, lover, but I'll leave Lafe here. ... you know, less of a headache." He pressed a quick kiss to Halo's forehead and waved to Demare. "You should come by, Demare, if you want to visit the kids sometime. And I'll see you, Halo. Don't cause too much trouble." Freeeeeeedom.
Lafe just glanced up at his moving and departing father, not even really interested in him at the moment. Instead, he actually seemed to scrunch down some when Demare's hand came closer to Alex, slinking closer to the other baby, but was otherwise quiet. He was cuddling close, in any case, a tiny yawn escaping.Halo kissed her hubby on the chin when he kissed her on the head and watched him flee. She smiled a bit. "he hasn't had much sleep with Lafe being so fussy. I guess we found out why. Pretty wierd huh?" Alex made a point that only his head was touched and blocked any way of touching Lafe. He did let his head be patted though and his dark hair was spikey, fluffy and very very soft. Demare was a little surprised by how soft the hair was, seeing how spike it was. It made him smile, however, and to make Lafe feel better again, he took his hand back away.
"I... can understand, I think," he admitted, looking up at Halo for a moment. "Maybe Lafe had... missed Alex? Being reborn and left without his friend, I'm sure it must have felt awful if that was the case." I wonder if Demian felt that way when we first arrived..."They must be tied together somehow if that's the case." Halo tilted her head to look at the boys. Now that they had found eachother they seemed quite comfortable. The two had settled back against the couch and now looked like they were falling asleep. Lafe was curled up as much on Alex as he cound be and the vampire boy had his arms over top of Lafe defensively. Alex yawned large and showed his tiny fangs. Lafe was already snoozing. "It makes you wonder what happened that seperated them." Halo petted Alex's head as he blinked sleepily at Demare. Demare only now noticed the fangs, and Alex's brilliant eyes. They were beautiful... such a bright contrast against the boy's pale skin. Like he's never seen the light of day... Just like For'mir...
The child almost opened his mouth to speak, but decided against it. His answer for something like that would have simply been that the two had died, because there wasn't any other way he could see the two seperating willingly. Instead, he offered something else.
"Perhaps... they became lost?" he suggested. "It's hard to tell the sort of thing right now, but... in most cases, a Legend's past is revealed to them slowly throughout their new lives. Maybe you'll find out what happened that way?"Halo nodded. "Yes.. I'm sure I'll find out. These two are so new. It just makes me wonder. Especially with the surprise of them two .. knowing eachother it seems." Alex's bright eyes finally closed and his tiny hands gripped Lafe's shirt lightly as if for comfort. He had a long day and he was tired! Halo looked at the boy's sleeping and smiled. "I should get them home to bed. It's getting a bit late for me as well.. I had to get up early this morning." She smiled at the boy. "You should come by our house sometime. You can visit the boys. We have two others as well, slightly older. And Freyr seems like he's around your age. You two may get along." The mohawked woman ran a hand through her dark hair and idly played with one of her horns. "It was very nice to meet you. You'll be alright here by yourself?" Demare smiled at the invite, his wings twitching a little bit. "I'll keep that in mind, ma'am," he said politely, nodding a little bit. "I'd love to see them again once they're all situated with their surroundings."
"Er, yes... I'll be just fine," he then assured her, standing himself up off of the floor. "I'll be heading home pretty soon, myself.""Don't call me ma'am! Call me Halo, please. Ma'am makes me feel so.. old." She gave the boy a grin and reached out to ruffle his hair lightly. Halo finally got up and looked at the boy's unsure of how to do this with them all latched all over eachother. She put her hands on Lafe and Alex immediately opened his eyes and gave her a look. "I have to pick you both up. time to go home, crazy." Alex uncurled his fingers from Lafe's clothes and let his mother pick the baby pooka up and tuck him in her arm. He shifted and frowned and cracked his eyes, looking for Alex. The other was soon to come and luckily they were still small enough that she could manage them both with a long arm (she thanked her parents that she was so lanky). Alex once more put his arms over Lafe but made a point to keep his eyes open so no one would bother the sleeping Lafe. "Silly kids." She held Alex's box under her one arm. Quite a handful! Demare gently rested a hand on top of his head when his hair was ruffled, bi-colored eyes watching the woman gather up the other two boys. They had good guardians, it seemed... Good parents. Smiling, he wished them a silent safe trip home as he watched them leave.

Old Friends, New Faces Shadow pulled herself into the HQ, Seven in toe with his usual bouncy demeanor. His little metal pendant stuck in his mouth as he nibbled on it lightly. He was quite curious today, his underdeveloped wings fluttering slightly to signify this. He tugged lightly on Shadow's sleeve, "Pway time?" Shadow glanced down at him, the heavy bags under her eyes just screamed, 'yeah, whatever, I'm too tired to care.'.. She offered a half hearted smile, "Yes, Seven, it's Play time." DS stepped into the HQ cautiously, holding Karan. The fiasco at home had inspired her to bring the Legend to play, in hopes that someone else would be able to make him feel better. Still, as she placed him on the floor, she wondered if it was the best idea.Karan looked around sadly, a small piece of cardboard clutched in his pale fingers. His cheeks were still damp from crying, and once in a while a new tear would rewet them. Everything but the cardboard went unnoticed.Shadow had made her way over to the couch to sit down, a heavy sigh passing her lips as she just allowed herself to sink into the plush cusions. Her eyes closed and she rested there, keeping them closed even as she heard someone enter, "Look, someone's here to play with." She said softly, giving a heavy sigh. Seven burbled a little before turning his attention to the door and who entered. Something flashed in his mind, a memory about another time he'd been here and seen that lady... "Gaaboooo!!" He cried bouncing over towards DS and Karan. He skidded to a hault, falling down on his rear as he did, leaving him in a small giggle fit before he looked up. "Hiwooo~" A nod was the most energetic gesture DS could come up with to acknowledge Seven's presence, and after that she flopped onto the couch. "One hell of a day," she commented to no one in particular. Who? Oh, it was him. Karan raised one drooping hand in greeting, but did little more, the bulk of his attention still on the cardboard in his other hand.A sideways glance was cast to DS from Shadow. All she did was nod and say, "Yup." Rather flatly. Seven, in all his dusty glory, scootched closer to Karan, "Hiwoo~" He smiled, wondering why the other boy was so interested in the small bit of cardboard. Seven pointed a chubby little hand to what appeared to be a small piece of garbage Karan was clutching. "Wha dat?" He said, quite curiously. Wow. If it was possible, this woman was having a worse time than she was. "He yours?" She pointed to the bright-haired Legend. Idle chatter kept her from thinking about what she would do when she got home and had to deal with everyone and the box again. That solicited a sniffle. "Cavan go plat," he whispered, not wanting to believe it really happened.Shadow offered DS a nod of compliance, "Yeah, he's mine.." She offered a smile. At least one of her kids was lively and well... Unlike.. "His sister's having troubles." She added, perhaps trying to explain her messy appearance and obvious exhaustion. Seven raised a brow briefly before scootching over beside Karan. Gently he placed a hand on his back and started rubbing. He didn't know why this was supposed to be helpful, but he'd seen people do this when someone else was sad so he figured it might take away the other boy's tears, "It otay." He said, offering him a smile. He really wasn't sure what the significance of the cardboard was or exactly what 'cavan go plat' was... but he'd try to be understanding, right?? Demare didn't bother to hold the door open as he stepped into the lobby, his arms immediately going back to folding across his chest. The split child was sulking (or was that brooding?) for one reason or another, his eyes narrow little slits as he glared around the room. Why'd he have to come, anyway? Just because CLARE wanted to go yesterday didn't mean HE wanted to go today! Stupid mortals...Neko was perhaps getting a little too used to this, and the recent changes. Granted, it wasn't the first time it happened, but he wasn't too happy himself today. Opening the door that was nearly slammed right in his face, the now male guardian stepped into the HQ and quietly closed the door behind him. It was so hard not to yell at that child...
"Look, I'm not putting up with this today," he nearly hissed as he moved to stand next to Demare. "You're either going to drop the attitude, or there WILL be hell to pay when we get back home.""Like that'll ever happen. You're too worried about scaring that s--""Demare."Gods, he hated that glare... It was almost worse than the one he gave people. Those damn green eyes could kill someone sometimes, he swore.
"Fine," Demare muttered with a sigh, his bi-colored eyes opening a little bit as he surveyed the area again. Who the hell was here, anyway? Goggle-boy, the lady that cared for him, and... Well shoot. He hadn't seen the kid in about a month.
"I'll be back, I guess," he grumbled to Neko before making his way over toward the couch. He thought maybe Karan would want a little more company than the other baby."I know the feeling," DS replied, thinking back to the house. Now two of her children were visibly upset. And if she buckled under the pressure, there was no telling what would happen. She couldn't ask others to do things for her forever after all.
Yawning, she started to rummage through the baby bag. Toys spilled out, along with a juice box, a pair of old goggles, and finally, a thermos. "Nothing like coffee to perk someone up, hm? Want some?" "No otay," Karan hissed, more vehemently than perhaps he'd intended. Still, he knew he was right. The box was gone, and that was anything but okay!
Though his vision was somewhat blurred by tears, he caught a glimpse of Demare and almost smiled. He would understand, wouldn't he? "Dmah, cavan go plat," he cried, waving the sorry piece of cardboard in the air.Shadow's eyes glazed over the trinkets that poured out of DS's bag, offering a soft chuckle. "I always forget to bring toys here for Seven to play with... " She eyed the goggles a little, remembering the ones that used to be on Seven's head, idly wondering where they had gone. -- Seven recoiled his hand back away from Karan. He wasn't sure what was wrong with the other boy and he clearly wasn't helping. He stared down at his hand, squeezing it open and closed. Pload... pload.. was that like when the stove blew up? Shadow was upset when that happened! That must be it. "Ge' new one!" He cried, pointing to the piece of cardboard. He beamed proudly. Oh boy was he smart. Surely all Karan had to do was get a new one! He glanced over to Demare, still rather proud of himself for his discovery. He was right... right? As Demare neared the couch, his wings twitched a little bit as Karan cried out. He blinked once, then twice as he stared down blankly at his friend, honestly confused as to what he was talking about. Cavan...? ...What the hell was that supposed to mean? Glancing at the cardboard in his hands, he noticed it looked rather familiar. Didn't the kid sleep in a box...?
"Go... pl--oh!" It clicked. The box broke?? "What'd you do? Get a little too big for it?"
"Get too big for what, Demian?" Clare asked from the back of Demain's mind.
"Nothing. Just lemme alone for now," he grunted in reply.
"...Well, if you need any lessons for sympathy, just let me know."
"SMARTASS!"
"You can blame that on yourself."
...DAMN! He was getting pretty good.
"Can't you get a new... 'cavan', kid?" he had to ask. "If this one's broken, there isn't much anyone can do about it.""Karan doesn't let me forget. Besides, this way I remember to feed myself. And what are those doing there?" DS picked up the goggles and laughed. "A present for my older son... but they remind me." Reaching into an outer pocket, she withdrew another pair, these smaller. "Do you know who these belong to? Karan brought them home one night, but I'm afraid their owner must be missing them terribly." A new box? Maybe... but it wouldn't be the same as the old box. The old box was just the right size, and had a dent in one side where he leaned against it too many times, that was perfect for hiding things, and one of the flaps had been bent a little, so he could tip the box over when he wanted to.
"MY cavan. Want mine." Sure, it was a bit selfish, but everyone had things that were theirs, and they didn't want new ones. It was the same with his scarves, and probably with other people too. "Not sam." Shadow had her eyes closed by this time, fighting to stay awake. For a moment she opened here eyes, just to see what she was talking about, but before she could respond.. "SQUEE!!!" Seven let out a high pitched little squeal as he practically dove into DS's lap. "GOGGOOOS~~" He cried taking hold of one of the straps, tugging on them delightedly. He'd almost forgotten about them and here they were! "Eiii~" Demare sighed lightly, taking note of how stubborn Karan was, and probably would be. For a moment, his eyes turned toward Seven, as if looking for an answer to the problem. ...GAH! What the hell would Clare say at a time like this?
"Okay, you freaking win. I need a little help," Demian caved in, grumbling.
"I knew you'd see it my way. What's the problem?" Clare asked, supposedly smiling where he was.
"Karan's box broke, the other kid and I suggested getting a new one, but he doesn't want one. He wants HIS 'cavan'."
"Cavan...? ...You don't think he means caravan, do you?"
"Huh?"
"Nevermind. What about suggesting making the new one his? Perhaps he could make the new one better than the old one?"
"...Worth a shot, I guess."
Demare crouched down a little bit, resting his hands on his knees as he stared back at Karan.
"Well, kid... The new one would still be yours. Maybe you could even make the new one better?"DS shrieked and dropped the thermos, which thankfully remained closed. Was this place created to give her heart attacks? "So... you're the one. I'm sorry for any trouble we caused you, little guy," she said amiably, rubbing his firey hair. "Glad we could get them to you." Karan glanced distractedly over to see what the commotion was about. Oh, those things... still, it proved his point well. They were like his scarves, or his box, those goggos things.
But Demare's suggestion was interesting. It had never occured to him that he could make the box better. The old box was his by accident, but if he had a new box, he could make it his on purpose. "Be-r box?" Seven propped himself up on DS's lap and grinned up at her proudly, pulling the goggles down on his head. They fit better than they used to. Maybe he was growing into them! He hugged the nice lady and gave another delighted squeal, "Gogoos~" Shadow just laughed and leaned back into the couch more than before, "He likes you, watch out." He might steal something and try to take it apart... She thought. Seven liked discovering new things, there was really no limit to what he'd do to achieve it. Demare's right eye twitched a little bit at Seven's sudden cry, but he did his best to remain calm as he focused on the box idea.
"Sure. You could make it a lot better," he said, his wings stretching and ruffling a little bit. "...Maybe I could even help a little, if you want." What am I getting myself into...?Shrugging a little, DS kept rubbing away at the boy's head. "He seems sweet enough, I think. Yes, you like those gogoos, don't you?" "Hep! Hep!" Now that was an excellent idea! It would be even more his box if a friend helped! It would be like the box in the picture! That one had lots of people nearby, didn't it? And lots of different pictures... maybe he could draw on it! Karan grinned. This would be great! Was... Demare smiling?? At least a little bit... his lips curled up slightly as Karan looked excited about the idea. Maybe it wouldn't be SO bad...
"All right, all right... I'll help, since you insist," he agreed, folding his arms against his knees as he crouched down even further. "We'll make you the best little..." Maybe Clare had been right? "...caravan there is. And it'll all be yours."Seven wiggled a little in her lap, snatching up the thermos that she had dropped, tapping his little chubby fingers against it. What was this thing? It looked like a cup of some kind... He stuck his tongue out the corner of his mouth as he examined it, quite a thoughtful expression on his face. His little hands wrapped snugly around it and he pulled it close to his ear... Shake shake shake~ Faevan opened the door, Prana almost bounding behind her. Two visits in two days was quite a treat. Immediately, she spotted a group of Guardians and their respective Legends socializing in the HQ, and she tried to enter as quietly as possible, hoping she wouldn't be interrupting anything. Prana immediately spotted the other Legends on the floor, her green eyes going wide with delight. Swiftly, she made her way into the room, hoping her friends remembered her.Such a curious child. DS smiled and pointed to the thermos. "Careful, there's coffee in there. And it's hot." He was a happy one too... though she noticed that Karan seemed to be feeling better too. Apparently she had made the right decision in bringing him here. "Bes cavan!" Tucking the cardboard scrap into his sleeve, Karan nodded enthusiastically. He was already starting to get ideas for it. If he had another box the same size, what would he do with it the second time around? Decorate it, of course. And make better hiding places- so he wouldn't get poked by the pokey things again. This was exciting, and he could barely wait to get started!Seven's fingers pried and pulled at the top of the thermos. His mind reeling. There was something inside!!... He peered up at DS, fingers tapping on the lid. "Hot coffeeeeeee...?" He grinned broadly. Shadow had coffee before! And it made everything oh so fun and exciting. With a wiggle of his wings he snagged the small handle on the lid and pulled, successfully prying open the thermos, hot coffee spilling onto his leg and onto DS no more then a moment later. He twitched. "HOT HOT HOT!!" He cried, throwing the thermos off himself and somewhere else, who knows where, coffee flying everywhere. Demare's eyes turned toward someone approaching as Karan continued to take in the idea of creating his new bed. That girl... wasn't that Prana? Instincts began to take over again as he threw his guard back up, standing upright and taking on his normal wariness of the others. Why did he do this...? He KNEW she was okay. ...But she hadn't seen him since he'd grown.
Something else caused him to twitch, however. His left arm began to sting a little as Seven threw the thermos, a little of the coffee having splashed onto him during the toss. He looked down at the baby, his eyes narrowing a little bit as he did his best to control his anger. The bandages were stained... Prana stopped short as she was showered with a spray of hot brown liquid. Thankfully the air cooled it a bit, but some of it splashed onto her cheek, mildly burning her.
"Ow!"
She winced, raising a gloved hand to cover the spot, an odd warmth eminating from it and soothing the pain. Her green eyes sat fixed upon the small winged child who doused her. "Ow! Yes, that is hot..." Wincing as the tepid beverage seeped through her clothes, she quickly reached down one handedly for the baby bag, heeping the other around Seven as best she could. Toys, those goggles, the juice box- as if they needed more liquid around- aha! A pack of baby wipes freed itself from the insides of the bag, as well as several napkins. Smiling, she looked up, and stopped.
"I think I'm gonna need more wipes." Karan was still in the middle of planning his new box when a bit of the coffee spashed his side. "Haaat," he yelped, patting his arm where most of it had hit. The sun side of the scarf was splattered with brown spots, and a larger damp spot on his arm was starting to burn. "Haaaat!"Chandra made her way to the HQ, feeling a bit odd in her new form. Everything seemed smaller than she remembered and the trip from her house to the HQ passed rather quickly. As she slipped in the door, she took stock of the room noting how many people she knew were present. Demare, Karan, and Prana to be specific. And a smaller one she didn't really remember. Making her way in their direction, Chandra made a small noise in the back of her throat to try and gain Demare, Karan, and Prana's attention without directly interrupting. Faevan quickly disappeared into the bathroom, returning with blissfully cool wet paper towels. "Here you go." She handed some to DS with a smile, wondering if her arrival would startle her friend at all. It had been a while. Handing over the soggy paper, she called to her child. "Prana, let me see your cloak, I'll clean it off for you." Prana nodded, removing her cloak, and her gloves as well, which had become doused a dull brown color as well.
"Sorry Mum." Faevan chuckled. "Accidents happen munchkin." She ruffled Prana's hair, sending her off to play while she cleaned up her things. Seven was swiping his hands against his leg, clenching his teeth together as he made soft hissing noises between them, as if it would help the burning on his leg. "Owie owieeeee." He cried, coffee soaking into his stark white sleeves. Small tears welled up in the corners of his eyes. Demare grumbled a little bit as he noticed the damage the kid had done without meaning to, but his attention quickly turned to Karan as he started to complain. Not really thinking about it, Demare reached his arms out and carefully picked up his friend, leaning him into the knook of his right arm while his left picked up the damp sleeve hopefully enough so it wouldn't be touching his skin. Damn it! If Clare had only gained a little control over that power of his...
His attention was again turned toward a sound from near by, his eyes resting upon the tall woman wearing mostly black and white. ...She looked rather familiar... and he would have been stumped on who it was had he not immediately recognized the interesting hair and intense eyes. The colors were something that had been burned into his memory ever since he first saw her.
"Chan...dra?" he got out, blinking a few times as he tried to get himself to believe that was actually her. She grew... A small cough caught Prana's attention and she turned to see a girl the size of Chesai, but most definately not Chesai, standing in the doorway. For a moment, prana just stood there, mouth slightly open. But the shock soon changed to happiness, and her eyes brightened along with her smile.
"Hi!" Prana waved, running up to Chandra. She hesitated for a moment, before hugging the girl. She had missed her a lot! DS blinked the coffee from her eyelashes. "Fae, you always have impeccable timing." The added towels cleaned most of the coffee from her clothes, and there were plenty left. "Now then, she murmured, sizing Seven up, "I think your mama was right to warn me." She pressed one damp towel against his legs, and another on his stomach. It would take a while to see to everyone. Karan scowled, too focused on the scarf at first to notice that he was being moved. Too much hot was bad... but some hot was okay, he was reminded when he saw Prana. And one other figure who looked familiar. The moon girl, he realized, reaching out to her elatedly. "Mooon!"Chandra smiled slightly and hugged Prana lightly. "Hello Prana. It has been a long time." She looked up to where Demare had said her name in question. "Demare." She inclined her head in his direction. "How have you been Prana? I do not believe I have seen you since you grew. Thank you for the frog." Looking a little surprised and then chuckling almost inaudibly, Chandra looked briefly to Karan. "Yes," she said, agreeably. "Moon." Prana beamed at the mention of the frog. She was elated that Chandra had enjoyed her gift.
"You're welcome..." Prana bluched at the compliment, smiling broadly. "I've been well, how about you?" Prana stepped back, looking at her friend. She was so much taller, but then, she had always been taller than Prana, and she liked it that way.
"You look beautiful." Prana looked around Chandra, admiring her new clothing. But there was somthing she couldn't see. "Where did your wings go?" her green eyes peereed everywhere they could, trying to find the snowy appendages she remembered from her infancy. Demare thought for a moment, looking at Karan as the baby reached his arms toward Chandra. ...A closer inspection wouldn't be so bad.
His wings curled around his shoulders a little bit as he stepped closer to Chandra and Prana for Karan to get a better look, his eyes still narrowed a little from the coffee incident. Seeing her a little better himself, however, he began to notice something. She'd grown quite... nicely, even if he'd only seen her a couple of times before.
"You look..." he started to say, fishing for the right word. Ugh, he wasn't good with these stupid compliment things! "...nice." Stupidstupidstupidstupud! "They disappeared," Chandra said without regret. "I am hoping it is a sign I have left my past behind me." She looked down at Prana, marveling at how at ease she felt around the younger girl. "You are the only person to have received a feather from them and it looks like you will remain the only one." Looking serenly in Demare's direction, Chandra had to blink a couple times. She thought she had seen something for a second, but undoubtably it was simply something in her eye. "Thank you, Demare." Yes, he did remember right. Even though she looked bigger. Everyone was getting bigger- moon girl, and the fuzzy white girl, and Demare... but not him. Maybe they all started out bigger. That was probably it. At the very least, the moon girl was most different to him, in a nice way. "Pwetty," he commented.
What was even more interesting to Karan was that he was near the hot girl and the cold girl at the same time. Perhaps it was just him, but the mixture felt comforting, and he barely noticed the fading burning sensation from the coffee anymore. Prana smiled, reaching into her bag to pull out the feather Chandra had given her, partly to sho the girl she had kept it safe. But in the process, she tugged too hard, and half the contents of her pouch came tumbling out. Half her feather collection, a river stone, a small bear, and a strange blue gem came tumbling out, landing in an unsightly heap on the carpet.
"Oops...I'm usually more careful." She kneeled down, carefully brushing off the feathers and putting them away, one by one. "Especially with yours." She held the inky plume carefully, pulling it off of it's resting place on the icy gem beneath it.Guinevere seeing the door only a few steps away put on a burst of speed leaving Pink in the dust as she half waddled, half ran to the door. Once she got there, still not learning what stop really meant, she flung herself into the door to slow herself down and pushed it open with a bang. She gave a large smile as she looked around the room and toddled into it, swinging her head to and fro looking for friends. At this time, Pink walked straight to the couch which she plopped on, per usual. Seven stiffled another cry before he started giggling and tugging at the towel as DS dabbed him with it. He seemed a bit ticklish when it came to cleaning. Still, his clothes were damp and uncomfortable. With his little chubby fingers he began to pry off his jacket, dropping it on the floor before he began trying to pry off those little pants of his. That was the last time he'd ever compliment somebody! Grrr... he knew Clare would rub this in his face later. Demare looked toward the floor for a long moment, somehow feeling a little better about being around the others as he held Karan in his arms. ...Being so careful with someone... Faevan made room for Pink, watching her friend settle down in the soft couch. "You missed the great coffee fiasco, be thankful..." Fae chuckled, wiping the last of the coffee off of Prana's cloak and thanking the heavens that the fur trim was brown. Dealing with a naked infant wasn't on her agenda for the day, so as Seven started to strip, DS hastily poked the woman next to her. "Ehm, excuse me... would you mind giving me a hand here?" She still hadn't seen to Karan, but it looked like everyone else was fine, if a bit damp. Pink's arrival went unnoticed as she dealt with the fresh wave of chaos and catastrophe."I am sure you are," Chandra said, not a trace of anything but sincerity in her voice. Chandra kneeled to assist Prana with the items that had spilled as well as to get a closer look at her own feather. "I am pleased to see you have kept the feather. I hope it comes in useful someday." Chandra eyed the other items, not meaning to pry but allowing curiousity to get the better of her. "Where did you get," she pointed to the gem which had emerged from below the feather, "that?" "I'm glad, I hate coffee!" Pink said with a laugh, "It stunts your growth don't cha know." She looked at her watch and sighed picking up Guinevere and the bag she always brought with them. "I'll be right back. I have to give Guinie some meddicine for her snuffle wuffles!" She said, directing the last part to, of course, her little girl. "This?" Prana held up the gem, shivering a bit as the cold stone touched her fingers. "A Legend named Raven gave one ot each of us for Christmas. I thought we all got the same one." She handed it to Chandra, who seemed to be very interested in it. "Didn't you get one too?" Her green eyes bored into Chandra's yellow ones, sincerely hoping that no one left her friend out of the gift giving this past season. Shadow shifted in her seat giving a soft groan as she was awakened from her little nap. She hadn't even noticed the coffee spill down her own leg, yet another side effect of exhaustion. "Eh?.." She paused then put a hand on Seven's shoulder, "Keep your pants on sweety, it's not bath time.." She said, without much conviction. Seven blinked as his fingers were wrapped around the waist band of his little knickers. He thought about it, wrinkling his nose. He really didn't want to sit around in wet pants.. it just wasn't sanitary! "Bu' doo'ty!!" He cried piteously. The sparkling gem caught Karan's eye, and he reached for it. It was pretty! And it was silvery, like the curvy pendant he had, but pokey, like the green shiny thing he had at home. Unless the lady had it in the bag? Maybe they could share them! But first, he wanted to see hers."I did actually," Chandra said as she gently took the icy blue gem into her hand. "But mine was yellow." She dug into her cloak with her free hand, wrinkling her forhead in concentration and she searched about for the correct pocket. Finally her face lit up, her searching stopped, and she pulled the gem out for Prana to hold. "Mine does not seem to do anything however. What about yours?" As she held both gems in her hands, for an instant Chandra felt a little odd. Almost as if she was weighing them and finding the blue one more valuable. Prana's eyes went wide at the sight of the yellow stone. What a beautiful item!
"Could I see it?" Prana asked cautiously, not knowing the value of the precious gem to Chandra. As the other Legend weighed the two stones in her hand, Prana couldn't help but feel the warmth eminating from the yellow one. She almost felt as if her whole body was warming just by being near it.
"Mine doesn't do anything either. It's just cold, like this." She held up the river stone Breena had given her a long time ago, and noticing Karan's interest, she touched him on the cheek gently before depositing the rounder stone in his hands so he too would have something to play with.Absently, Demare looked up to see what Chandra and Prana were doing, and he recognized the blue stone Chandra was now holding. It looked a lot like the one he'd received a few months ago that his dagger came from.
"They... didn't do anything?" he questioned, looking to them both. Why did his change while the others didn't...?Prana looked at Demare. He had grown too, and it startled her a bit. She had been so taken with seeing Chandra again that she didn't notice him immediately. But his words confused her.
"Yours...did something?" She looked at him quizzically, wondering what power the stones held. Absent-mindedly Chandra handed over the yellow stone, her mind on the blue one. It felt so familiar. Perhaps it was the cold, the way it seemed to match her own body temperature so well. "It does not feel cold to me. It feels just right. The other is ... uncomfortably warm. Much like I find other people to be." Chandra grinned at Karan's obvious desire to join in the sharing of stones. "Do you have a stone as well little one?" Oooh, that was cold. Karan shuddered as his hands leeched the coolness from the smooth stone. How odd, that someone who was usually so warm had something that was cold. That too was comforting. Maybe heat and cold weren't mutually exclusive after all.
He looked up when he was spoken to, and nodded, pointing to the bag. If he had one, it might be there. Except the lady was doing something funny with the goggles boy... As the yellow stone touched her skin, Prana's entire body seemed to settle into a warm haze. It just felt...right. She closed her eyes, letting her hands cup over the stone and absorb it's warmth. She eyes opened a slive, and she looked up at Chandra, who seemed to be in a similar state with her gem.
"Would you like to have that one. I'll trade with you. Raven had said it was ok." She offered, hoping Chandra would be pleased. "Yes," Chandra murmured. "I think it fits better this way." Her attention was caught as Demare's comment penetrated her consciousness and she looked up, brushing a stray strand of hair back behind her ear. "Your gift from Raven did something for you?" HA! He was SPECIAL! ...So why didn't he feel like it? He looked between the two girls for a moment, wondering if he should actually show them his precious item. ...Maybe their stones' reactions were just delayed.
"Well..." he hesitated for a moment before caving in, carefully balancing Karan in his right arm while he reached across his side with his left and slipped his dagger from his bandages. The wings on the hilt fidgetted a little bit, having been nearly neglected for so long that it was almost not used to the touch anymore. The eye in the middle moved only a little bit as Demare held the weapon in his hand, the blade resting along his fingers.
"Mine kinda turned my pendant into this..." Chandra eyes the dagger warily, wondering what manner of gift these stones truly were. "It is... sentient?" She asked, noting the movement of the wings and the eye. "I have never seen such a thing." Oh, oh, he remembered that! It felt soft, and hard, and cold, and nice and not nice all at the same time! And it did something that felt weird, and then hurt a little, and he had to wear something on his hand for a while. But it was still neat, he though. The stone dropped into his lap and he extended one hand towards the dagger curiously. Demare's two red eyes opened slightly, keeping their attention on Karan while his bi-colored ones looked at Chandra.
"To be honest, I don't know," he replied, his own wings twitching a little bit. "Sometimes I feel like it is, but there's other times I think it's just... me. I've never really left it anywhere, so it's hard to say if it moves at all when I'm not around, if that makes any sense." Then there are those days I swear I hear whispers in the shadows... Chandra nodded, taking her eyes off the weapon. It made sense that such secrets would not be unravelled yet, since the stones had only appeared on Christmas. "What sort of stone did you receive?" Prana looked cautiously at the dagger, feeling a bit uneasy. It was a combination of the weapon and the boy, if she was to be honest with herself. She remembered him being so much more cheerful...
"So will ours do this too?" She asked Demare, watching the little eye on his dagger. "The blue stone you're holding right now..." he said, looking toward the mysterious gift for a moment. "I held it for maybe a few moments before my pendant went crazy and turned into this."
Looking to Prana, he replied honestly, "I don't know. Maybe... but maybe each one does something different, you know? Like maybe that yellow one will give you some kind of power, and the blue one will turn into some kind of.... familiar." "Odd." Chandra remarked finally, tucking the new blue stone from Prana into the dark recesses of her new cloak. "I will be curious to see what exactly is the case with these." As she smoothed the feathers around her neck, a thought ocured to Chandra. She had wondered about this before, but had not thought to ask. "Have either of you... met Raven?" Apparently with the Alejandro in the house, Lafe had calmed down out of the crying phase and was well into a phase on the opposite end of the spectrum. Or, at least, that was what Wren thought. The pooka was squirming in his arms, attempting to crawl up to look over his shoulder, but he had been doing that since leaving the home.
Since Lafe had calmed down considerably, Wren had figured it would be a good idea to take him back to the HQ. After all, those previous times he had been in a 'bad mood', but now was entirely different. In fact, as they walked inside, Lafe pointedly ignored the grumbling from Wren and thumped him in the chest with his tail. He hadn't made any signs to show he wanted to go out.
... but his ears twitched and cocked suddenly, picking up the voices of others present. Joy and rapture. People. The dagger and stone could only occupy Karan's interest for so long, and he was starting to grow bored. All the big people did was talk. Even if they talked about pretty things, if he couldn't play too, it was stupid.
Movement near the door caught his eye. Finally, someone new to play with. Karan tugged at Demare's sleeve and pointed to the floor. Talk was boring, and maybe the new kid would play with him!"No, but if you ever do yourself, tell me where you found him so I can thank him for this," Demare smirked, slipping the dagger back next to his side.
As the door of the HQ opened, his bi-colored eyes turned to see who had entered. It was that whiney little fox... Though, oddly enough, he wasn't whining today. In fact, he looked like he didn't want to be around. Funny... Demare could relate to that.
Feeling the tug on his sleeve, the halfling looked to Karan and saw he wanted down. Hmph... fine then. Crouching down, Demare gently placed the baby on the floor to let him do what he wanted."Actually...no. I never have, now that you mention it." Prana said, answering Chandra's question. "I wonder who he is.""A mystery." Chandra said with satisfaction, straightening up from her position on the floor. She had noted the entrance of another set of people she knew. "I must be going," she said, glancing about. "It was good to see you Prana. Hopefully it will not be this long again before we next meet. But if it has to be, I hope you are well in the meantime." Chandra pulled up her hood, feeling the need to get out of this space. The pressing closeness of so many of the living was wearing on her.

Fish and Dairy! "Hello?" Calling softly into the room, Aki pushed open the door...yanking her foot back abruptly as Levi pushed past. The boy crawled swiftly towards the nearest chair, pulling himself up to stand with a bit of a sway. "Ewwo?" The young pirate mimicked, one hand still upon the seat of the chair for balance as he peered into the room curiously. He remembered this place distantly...he'd been here before! But...where was the ball? Taking a few steps in, hefting her sling bag to rest more comfortably against her hip, Aki made her way over to her charge. "I'm going to take a look around...why don't you stay put, and I'll be right back?" Brushing the hair out of his eyes and patting his cheek gently, Aki beamed at Levi's scrunched displeasure. She didn't truly expect him to do as he was told, but the effort had to be made. Besides...she'd only be a moment! Heading for the door to the next adjoining room, Aki called out once more. "I hope it's okay that I let myself in!" She resisted the urge to check the address on the note Sinclaire had left her...she'd already checked it three times, and was almost sure she was in the right place. Levi, however, had no such doubts. Reaching up to grip the edge of the table, walking himself around to the other side toward the shelves, the young pirate pulled curiously on the spine of a tucked book...giggling in delight as the entire stack topped forward. "Eheheh!!!""Aww, not already! Just 10 seconds, that's all I ask!!" Demare struggled to open the door, carefully craddling the squirming baby in his arms. Ugh... this was hard... but what other choice did he have? Neko and Domonic were having a silly argument that was getting out of hand, and Clare felt it would be best to take Manior with him while he stepped out for a bit. No sense in letting the kid see his parents fighting, right? ...Little did he know how heavy the playful child could be from carrying him for so long.
Once the door was finally open, the halfing child quickly stepped into the lobby, stepping out of the way as the door closed itself. Okay... hard part was over. Now what to do...? His bi-colored eyes began to inspect the area for a moment, wondering if anyone was around. ...Was that someone new?? There was an unfamiliar baby there, and an older woman he'd never seen before. Hmmm... At least Manny would have someone to play with. Smiling a little bit, Demare shifted the baby in his arms and made his way towards the people in question.Manior's soft blue eyes began to take in the new surroundings of the strange place that wasn't home. Where was he? Where did the funny boy decide to take him? And where was the kitty lady and the pretty man? Shaking his rattle a little bit, the small baby wiggled about in Demare's arms, wanting down."Hold on, Manny," Demare said quietly, thinking maybe it was best to set the child down on the couch to be safe. "I'll put you down in a minute, okay?"In a minute? ...What was a minute?Aki spun at the muffled leafy clatter of books, sighing as thoughts of a first impression crossed her mind. What if she didn't get it picked up by the time- "Oh! Hello!! I...sorry about the mess!" Pink graced her cheeks as she abruptly noticed the boy and waved a hand towards Levi sheepishly. "I'm Aki! This is Levi. Are you...?" She left the question unfinished, for in truth, she didn't know what to make of the newcomer! Nor the squirming child in his arms. She realized the feeling was probably mutual...there went her hopes of a good first impression! Twisting from where he sat before his pile of books, Levi rested his weight on one hand and stared...blue eyes wide with wonder. Now here was something interesting!! Finally grinning, fox eyed, Levi pointed towards Demare and his mismatched wings. "Pishin!! Eh!"Aki could only wince. ...Minute was up! Manior began to squirm and struggle against Demare's strong arms, deciding now was his turn to start exploring this new world.
"MYAAAAAA!" he squealed, his tabby ears folding back flat against his bald head as he tried to get down."Hello, ma'am," Demare began to say before the baby began to squirm about. "And Levi... My name i--MANNY! Manny, calm down!"Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle... The demon child began to wave his rattle around, demanding to be let go.
"MAAAAA!""S-stop it! I m-might..." he started, twisting about a little bit to keep his arms around the kid. He was so squirmish!! And so wriggl--whoops!! Manior was successful in freeing himself, dropping to the floor.
"ACK!!"Good for him, he was part cat! The kitten-like child plopped right onto his diaper padded bum unharmed, his little tail beginning to flick around wildly. His ears perked up as he blinked, glacing around the room from the floor. FREE!! Now, time to explore! Leaning forward, the curious baby began to crawl on his hands and knees, but not before sticking the stick of his rattle into his mouth to carry.Demare grasped at his heart as he took heavy breathes, having been scared to death about dropping his "brother". Oh goodness! Neko would have punished him if something had happened... Taking a couple of deep breathes to calm down, he straightened himself out as his wings stretched and ruffled behind his back. Looking to the woman again, blushing with embarressment, he was about to start his introduction again until Levi spoke up.
"...Pishin?" he questioned, lifting a hand to point toward himself as he looked at the oddly dressed babe. Now he was really confused..."Ah! It's...it's a term of endearment?" Shrugging helplessly, Aki tugged on a strap and moved her bag around to her front. Rummaging through it quickly, she finally produced a pouch of goldfish crackers and relinquished them gladly to Levi's grabby hands. With any luck, that would keep him silent! Pishin indeed! Straightening once more to catch the boys name, Aki gasped and jumped as the baby plopped to the ground. Meeting Demare's look with one equally shocked, Aki sighed in relief as the little one crawled away. "That was lucky!!" Levi dropped his hand, distracted from the odd winged child by the odd baby crawling his way. The odd, cat eared baby... "Eeeere kikiki!!" Slapping the ground before him with his empty hand enticingly, Levi grinned at his discovery. A pigeon boy and a kitten baby! Who knew such things existed!! Aki groaned and rubbed at one eye with the palm of her hand. How could such a cute boy be so rude?! As he heard the odd sounds emmitting from the dark dressed baby near the tall lady, Manior stopped in mid-crawl, one tiny hand curling up a little like a paw. His ears twitched a little bit as his baby blues rested on the other boy, his tail wagging a little behind him. He was calling him? He made funny noises! It was time to investigate.
Turning his direction a little bit, Manior began to crawl toward the child, his curiosity overpowering anything else he'd wanted to check out. Was this another thing like himself? A small person like himself? As he neared, the baby stopped once more, plopping backward onto his tush as he took the rattle out of his mouth. Hmmm... was it safe? The demon began to sniff the air a little bit, trying to pick up the strange creature's scent. It smelled of... salt. Sniff sniff... and water? ...Ooooo! And a hint of fish! A soft purr could be heard coming from the child as he shifted his body again to crawl even closer to the child, sniffing curiously at the interesting smelling baby. Mmmm, cheesy too. Was he made of fish and dairy? For a long moment, Demare was distracted by the babies, the look on his face that of amusment as Manior sniffed at Levi. He never did that at home... Looking to Aki one last time, he refrained from laughing as he tried once again to introduce himself.
"I'm sorry... My name is Demare, and that's my "brother", Manior," he said politely, bowing his head slightly to the woman. "I-it's certainly nice to meet you and Levi, ma'am.""Demare and...Manior? What distinguished names! It's a pleasure!" Her ears dipped as her smile deepened. That hadn't gone as badly as she'd feared!! Crackers crunching in his off hand as he leaned forward, Levi did just as Aki had taught him. Holding his empty hand out for a moment for the kitty to sniff, Levi made gentle scritchy motions...reaching for the fuzzy ear. Once again, Aki caught her breath as she glanced to Levi. Trying to pet little Manior?! Chewing her lip, Aki didn't interfere...if Manior objected, she was sure he'd make it known. Levi could learn his own lesson, in this. "Eh kiki!" Giggling, Levi pushed forward the last bit, amused at the thought of making a kitty friend. Kitties were better than pigeons, he decided. The pigeons always flew away! Manior continued to purr as Levi reached out for his ear, rather content with the smell of fish. This one was niiiice, and he did ear scritches. Aaaaah, ear scritches were heaven... His purring got even louder as Manior got enough more kitten like and flopped down right into Levi's lap, laying on his stomach as his tail flicked happily. At this Demare chuckled a little bit, folding his hands behind his back in a similar fashion that a little girl would without really thinking about it. His white wing fluffed itself a little bit while the black leathery wing curled down a little bit to rest on his shoulder.
"You'll have to excuse him... He tends to think he's a kitten instead of a baby," he said with a smile, rocking on his feet a little bit. "He hasn't really met any one outside of the family yet, either."
For a moment he was quiet, intent on watching the little ones while he thought. Levi... looked like something he'd seen in one of the story books Neko bought for Manior. Bandana, dark cloak, dark clothing...
"Is... he new?" he decided to ask, turning his bi-colored eyes to Aki curiously.Raife found herself -despite apparently appearing like a male martial artist- at the end of a weary day, at the doorstep of the Legends HQ. She scratched her chin a bit. She'd heard about this place a few times. Where children that would one day be something more than they seemed gathered. Certainly there was no reason why she, a normal, slightly strange individual should be anywhere near the place. Nevertheless, she picked herself up by her bootstraps and charged inside. She was quite disappointed with what she saw. No kids flying through the air shooting lighting bolt blasts at each other. No hypnotic rays. Just two young women and two young boys, one a child, one a baby. They appeared to be normal, in all sense of the world...well, unless you counted the strange wings coming out of the child and his overall unearthly appearance. Okay, so maybe it wasn't QUITE normal. She peered around hesitantly. Was she allowed to go in? Was there some sort of hideous forcefield that would zap her if she tried? "Hmm.....Hi?" She ventured weakly at anyone who'd answer. "All that matters is that they're getting along. I'm so glad! As for 'new'...it depends on your point of view." The pale elf trailed off as she met his unusual eyes, surprise brightening her expression. How unique!! "I...um, he's been with me for just over a week, now! So, new to me perhaps." Ending with a smile, she turned to glance once more at the younglings. They were getting on fine, thankfully! "Have you been here before?" Waving her hand vaguely, Aki shifted her gaze back to Demare. He was so striking, but she didn't wish to stare! Levi patted Manior's head, finally remembering the crumbled goldfish in his other hand. Uncurling his fingers slowly, he paused in his scritching to poke the largest cracker pieces...plucking one from the pile and crunch into his mouth! "Hmm?" Lowering his hand, Levi displayed the remaining broken pieces with a questioning grunt. There were more than enough to share...Aki's bag never seemed to run out of snacks! Jumping a bit at the sudden voice, Aki twisted to peer at the door...grinning in relief at the sight of someone apparently as lost and uncertain as herself! Waving unnecessarily, Aki beamed. "Hi there!" "Hey! I'm not going to get zapped to smoking barbeque bits if I step in here, am I?" Raife asked nervously, but cheerfully, smiling. "I heard about this place and I wanted to check it out......but not if I'm going to get fried by some protective invisible forcefield." She added the last part hastily, grinning a bit over at the little boy with goldfish. Mmm. Goldfish. Her favorite snack. It was certainly no coincidence that she knew no less than THREE Goldfish commercial jingles. She wondered if they still could taste good with sticky baby hand goo on them. Well, the baby seemed to be enjoying them alright. She crouched down to watch them on their level. Demare's attentioned turned toward the door for a moment as it opened. Not wanting to interrupt Aki as the new woman spoke, the child simply waved his hand, hoping that would be signal enough that it would be okay to come inside.
"Me? I've been here lots of times," he responded, folding his hand back behind his back. "Neko used to take me a lot when I was a baby, but lately I've been coming by myself."
New to her? "Levi lived somewhere else before?"Manior opened his eyes a little bit as the scritches stopped, slightly disappointed but a little more surprised as something was held in front of his face. What were those in the boy's hand? He began to sniff a little bit, smelling the cheesy smell he'd smelled earlier. Ooo! Dairy! Peering up at Levi for a moment, he blinked once before looking back to the hand, reaching up his tiny fingers to grasp a crushed cracker and stuffed it into his mouth. ...How did people eat these again? Taking his now slobbery hand out after a moment, he wondered what to do next as he felt the cracker melt in his mouth a little bit. Was this where he was supposed to swallow? ...Maybe. Manior waited, instead, to see if it would melt completely.Raife took the signal from the strange and eerily cute looking little boy to come inside, and did. She peered around with the curiosity of an animal exploring new surroundings. Fortunately, she had enough social experience to squelch her primal desire to want to sniff everything. Okay, maybe she needed to get out more anyway. She smiled at the other young woman there, pleasantly. "Are they yours? They're adorable." Of course, by saying "Are they yours?" She was hoping she wouldn't throw her off by telling her something like, 'No, you've stumbled into an international strange looking child smuggling ring.' Or, 'No, their parents just walked off and left them here." It was more or less a strange breed of rhetorical question that actually needed an answer. But the little boys certainly were cute. Aki nodded at Demare, but her gaze was upon the newcomer. Forcefields? Now Aki was beginning to worry. What kind of place was this!? "He...yes! He used to live with Sinclaire, a close friend! Levi and I got along so well when we met, and Sin's usually so busy. So...part time sitting turned into a more permanent arrangement!!" It sounded more awkward than it felt...Levi was still delighted to see Sin upon each of her visits. Levi glanced to Aki only once, peering up at the mention of Sinclaire's name. The approaching stranger, however, was a bit more interesting. One hand still idly patting the top of Manior's head, the boy lifted his crumb covered palm with a tiny curving smile towards Raife as she glanced his way. "Eh?"Aki chuckled, pleased Levi was sharing, even if it was a bit gross. Real gold was another matter entirely...sharing his 'treasures' was rare. "Thank you, and yes! I'm his guardian! Sorry I didn't introduce myself, I'm Aki!" "I'm Raife....I'm not sure what I'm doing here. Mostly I was just curious and wanted to stop by. He's really cute. And sticky with crackers." She chuckled. "I have a niece that's probably not much older than him. She's turning two this weekend. Which means she's going to be passed out with her head smooshed in a big slab of cake. I can't wait." She smiled a bit. "This age doesn't last forever. Seems like just yesterday, my oldest nephew was this age. Now he's seven. Time flies." She fished around in her pockets a bit for something the little boy might like to dribble on. His age loved to dribble on things. She found an old stop watch that hadn't been working, but she'd been carrying around for sentimental reasons. "Ah, here we go." She smiled, and walked over, crouching next to the little boy, offering it to him. It seemed cleaner, atleast, than those sticky goldfish crumbs. She buffed it and washed it every day. "Hi there, buddy." Demare lifted a hand to cover his mouth as he yawned quietly, feeling a little exhausted from the day's events. Hmmm... and he still needed to carry Manior home...
Feeling a little bad for needing to cut their visit short, Demare leaned down and carefully gathered the kitten child into his arms, smiling at Levi before standing up right.Huh?? Where were they going? The ear scritches weren't done yet..."I'm sorry... we really need to be heading home now," he said quietly, looking down at Levi, to the new woman, and then to Aki. "Perhaps I could convince my guardian to arrange a visit sometime? I'd like to get to know Levi myself sometime, and I'm sure Manny would like to see him again.""Asleep on the cake? If only I were so lucky...Levi is unstoppable with sugar in him." Wincing at the very thought, Aki couldn't help but laugh. Levi didn't understand what was so funny, but he was pleased nonetheless! A few days ago, he'd gotten gems for a coin...and today, a treasure for a cracker! Forgetting about the crumbs, Levi pushed forward to grab the watch...cooing in delight. "Levi...?" "Hanku!"Aki nodded, smiling once more. He could be sweet when he wanted to be! Watching as Demare scooped Manior up, Aki smiled...taking a step back to stay out of the way. "I'd like that...you're both welcome, if you'd like to see where Levi lives! Be safe on your way home!" Waving at the pair, Aki giggled to see Levi wave as well...yanking his new treasure through the air. "Baaahkikiki!!""It's going to be time for you to go soon as well!" Cautioning the young pirate, Aki sighed as Levi turned. Stubbornly facing away from his guardian, he twiddled with the new treasure...glancing up once more in awe to Raife. How lucky for him! Raife waved politely at the very responsible seeming young child with the baby. "Bye! I hope we can meet some time!" She chuckled a bit and turned back to the little boy and smiled. "You're welcome! ...It doesn't work anymore, but I'm sure you can find a use for it." She found it doubtful that the baby could tell time anyway. No matter how intelligent and brighteyed he looked. "So, you're Levi, then? That's a nice name. I'm Raife." She stuck her hand out to the boy, in a silly gesture. Pausing to glance from the offered hand to Raife's face, Levi squished one eye shut...debating the nature of the game. Finally, leaning back onto his bottom, Levi swung his hand forward and met Raife's with a resounding smack. "Eeeesh!!" Shaking the sting out of his little hand, Levi chuckled...it was his own fault! "Eh Wave!"Laughing at his pronunciation, Aki made her way forward....dropping to sit beside 'Wave' and Levi. "How many new friends have you made today, Levi?" Laughing as the boy displayed all five stinging fingers, Aki folded down his pinky and thumb. "There! You've made three new friends today! Demare, Manior, and Raife!" Shrugging noncommittally, Levi dropped his hand to the watch...resisting her attempts at this 'counting' nonsense. All that mattered was how much you had...not how many!Raife laughed delightedly. "Someone's certainly got alot of spirit. That's good." She smiled. "And 'Wave' is just fine until you get your tongue around those R's and F's. Tricky little devils. And five and three....hardly any difference. The more the merrier, eh? Maybe I'm so big to him that I count as two!" She chuckled and reached over, looping the chain of the pocket watch around Levi's head gently. "There you go. So you won't lose it. Gotta keep an eye on those things." That he understood! Nodding gravely as he stared down at the watch, Levi smiled slowly. Wave knew a lot! Maybe she had a chest full of treasures too! Maybe that's why she would give away something so great so easily! Pushing himself up to his feet, butt in the air till he managed to get his top half up as well, Levi wavered and looked around for Aki. "Wainy?"Laughing, Aki made her way over...scooping the boy up with a grunt. "Let's go and hide your treasure away ~ Save it for a rainy day!" The boy seemed to take comfort in the song...it meant soon his new beauty would be safe and sound with the others. In the meantime, he wouldn't let it go...so he waved with a foot instead of a hand. "Bah!!" Kicking in Raife's general direction as he was cradled by Aki, the boy giggled as Aki tipped him forward in her quick bow. "Raife, it was a pleasure to meet you! I hope we see you here again when we return...he seems to value your company!" Value was the right word, at least! She didn't have a hand free either...instead, Aki offered Raife a smile and made her way to the door. Levi, meanwhile, was still cooing softly to his treasure as Aki packed him out. What a wonderful night! Raife smiled and waved them off. Perhaps she'd better get herself on home too. It'd been an interesting trip, even if she hadn't seen and strange phenomenon really while being here. Nothing she hadn't particularly seen around Gaia before. She gave the headquarters another brief look around, before nodding, satisfied with her trip, and turning to go. Waving her hands around briefly for any forcefields, she headed out.

Someone like me... Not quite sure how he had managed it, Wren was out of the house with Lafe in tow once more. The fox-child, as usual, was keen on squirming and wriggling in his arms. In fact, he had to stop as he was on his way to the Legend HQ a number of times to make sure the baby didn't get out of his grasp.
It was a big difference from Mael and when he had been a baby. Mael had all ways latched onto to him. Lafe was independant to the bone, or didn't like being held. Wren was betting on that. Babies were far, far too finicky.
Opening up the door to the HQ, he looked around to see if anbody was around. "Hello?" he called out.
And, of course, right at that point, Lafe let out a particularly loud squeal. Or was that a yip? A keen? It was something, and it sounded all most like a noise a fox would make. The baby glanced up at his father and blinked his eyes innocently at the stare he received as they went on inside. What? Was he not suppose to be so playful this time of the night? Not that he particularly cared Wren had a schedule he liked to sleep on.
No, Lafe was wide awake and tail swishing rapidly from side to side. He was in a good mood.STUPID MORTALS!! That must have been Demian's thought of the week as he opened the door and slipped into the lobby, his eyes a narrowed glare of annoyance. That... that... b*****d!! Neko took his dagger away for the time being after Demare had "accidentally" cut the head off of one of Manior's plushies with it. Who the hell cared about a stupid... plush toy?! Hate... HATE!!
But if he was so angry at the moment, what lead him here? It wasn't like anything good ever came out of these visits. ...Well, maybe sometimes it did. However, that was only sometimes. His wings fluffed and fluttered a little bit as he looked around again, his arms folding across his chest as he noticed Wren and Lafe in the room. How eerie was that...? It was like most of the anger left him while Demare began to feel at ease, curiosity beginning to pick at his brain as his bi-colored eyes merely stared at the man for a long moment. What... WAS he, anyway?
His eyes opened to their somewhat normal size, still a slight glare as he decided to move closer to the other two inhabitting the room at the moment.Wren shifted on his feet and turned around as Demare came closer, a nudge from Hawk's Eye informing him that somebody else had entered the room. Granted, the fiend had made himself small for the time being, slipping into Wren's shadow and hiding. The fiend had felt ill at ease ever since growing.
"'Lo, Demare," he said, voice friendly as all ways. Odd, the child was glaring and he wondered why. "Good to see you again."
Lafe had gone still again, as Wren turned. There was another present in this place, one that he recognized. The fox-child squirmed until he was sitting properly in Wren's arms, eyes and ears alert for anything it seemed. Though that wag of his tail hadn't quite stopped. He let out a small noise, as if pleased, for some odd reason. The movement of the shadow caught the demon's eyes, the red glimmer under his bangs widening just slightly to peer into the darkness behind the man. Something was there... Something had ALWAYS been there. But what was it...?
His white eye managed to look up on its own for a short moment before the black one followed, blinking once as he seemed to think about what Wren had just said. This comfort was almost unsettling, and he couldn't help but look away to get a better look at Lafe instead.
"Hi," he said quietly, a slight grumble as the annoyance continued to seep out of his body. His head tilted to the left a little bit as he noted the child's quiet behavior, not remembering him being this... calm before. "And... hello to you, too."Odd, Demare was acting odd, and it piqued the demon's curiousity. Wren tilted his head to the side, eyebrow raised at the child's behaviour. He could feel Hawk slinking forward a little bit in his shadow to look at the child as well, mimicking his curiousity in some way.
"All ways seem to run into you when I come here," Wren chuckled, trying to difuse the odd feeling situation. He couldn't place his finger on it. "At least, this time around, Lafe's not crying though ..." He smiled, awkwardly, and glanced down at his child.
Lafe spared Wren only a glance upward, before focusing on Demare again. The fox-child was very observant for someone his age, piercing eyes carefully watching Demare's movements. As if he could figure everything out somehow. He knew this one and wasn't as shy about him as the others could make him be ( he was different from them as well, not as loud ). His tail swished a little faster, the gears in the baby's mind rotating one way or another.Demare continued to watch the baby in Wren's arms, tilting his head to the right after a moment as the silvery eyes pierced his own. Those eyes... It felt like they were reading him, like they knew something about him. Like Chandra's...
"I... noticed," he said a bit absently, his red eyes shifting slightly as they continued to watch Wren's shadow. Something was moving, hiding in the shadows. He could feel it.
"...You're a little like me, aren't you?" Demare suddenly asked, his leathery wing curling around his shoulder a little bit. He didn't care if it was rude or not, he just wanted an answer so the question would leave him alone.Lafe, after studying Demare for long enough, seemed to reach whatever conclusion he had come to. A half-smile was on his face, fingers finally coming up in a small wave before they curled about his tail to clutch at it as usual. There was even a small baby laugh, Lafe leaning back in Wren's arms and getting comfortable, no longer squirming as much for the moment.
Wren glanced down at Lafe again, still sure that he'd not get use to Lafe's behaviour around others any time soon. It was Demare, however, who had his complete attention. Ignoring Hawk, the brush of emotions against his mind and everything else, he straightened up some.
"A bit like you?" he asked, head tilting and thinking it over. Well, the child did remind him of being stuck in between. Neither angelic or demonic, but he -- well, that was something Wren didn't need to think about. "Well, if you're referencing what I think you are, then yes, I am like you in a way."Demare was a little puzzled by Lafe's little laughter, wave, and smile. ...What was it with all these babies smiling at him?? He didn't really feel like striking fear in anyone at the moment, so he let it be... and even allowed his own fingers to raise up and wiggle a little bit in a wave.
His eyes turned upward as Wren answered, however, and he thought for a moment. So he was a demon! That would explain why he felt rather calm around the man. Then, what was that thing he kept seeing? A familiar? Another demon?
"Is it... different?" he asked, his fingers wrapping around some of the loose bandages on his arms a little bit. "Do others accept you for who you are?"The wave was more of a greeting than anything else, though the laugh from Lafe -- who knew. It meant something, but nothing was for certain in his mind. More, it was a sign of him being fine with Demare for now. Besides, he was more interested in fiddling with his own tail at the moment. The conversation they were having was hardly interesting to him.
Wren smiled faintly, and for a moment, those blue eyes of his seemed to hold a glow, but it faded. Demare seemed so young, but where he had been, perhaps things had not been the same as they had been for him. For just a moment, Wren could've swore he felt Hawk's small fingers on his forearm, but it faded away, and he only glanced to his shadow with a scowl.
"Pierce," he grumbled under his breath, before shaking his head and focusing on Demare. The scowl was gone and his voice serious. "You could say that they do accept me for who and what I am where I'm from. At the same time, however, it's odd for them to see me. Running into what's considered a full-blood demon." Odd, he hadn't used that phrase in ages. "Here, there's so many pathways to other places, and where I come from ... Well, things are very different."Wearily, Chandra pushed open the door to the HQ and slid into the foyer area. She shrugged off her cloak and hung it up, one hand touching her swollen black left eye gingerly. The cloak hid it in shadow, but now that it was exposed - she was worried. With a inward sigh, she brushed her hair forward over her ear on that side and stepped into the main part of the HQ. It seemed that both Demare and the noisy child were here. The child however seemed relatively silent. Nodding slightly, Chandra passed them and made her way to the kitchen with a couple softly spoken words. "Greetings Demare, Lafe." Demare's red eyes had found it. The thing lurking in the darkness. ...But what was it?? It held no real aura, and it didn't exist anywhere outside of the shadow behind Wren. It was odd, the curiosity overwelming him.
As Wren mentioned being full-blooded, there was a sense of longing that washed over Demian's soul. That feeling of desire... The lust for wanting to be whole once more. It made him jealous, and almost angry, that someone could live that way.
"You're lucky," he whispered, his hands grasping lightly onto his cold greyish arms. "I can only dream of such things."
Clare, on the other hand, didn't understand Demain's desires. Did... he not like being with him?
He straightened up a bit as another voice spoke, glancing over his shoulder to see who it was. Funny... he'd thought about her not too long ago.
"Hello," Demare simply answered, his wings stretching a little bit before relaxing again.Hawk's Eye was oddly intrigued by the boy that was before Wren, which was why he was playing the game he was. Making himself slightly visible and then sneaking right back into Wren's shadow. For sure, it was irking Wren, but he was amusing himself. This one, he was similar to Wren, but he wasn't sure how. He let himself become visible again, eyes peering at Demare, but as Chandra entered the building, he disappeared once more into Wren's shadow.
Even if there was another fiend about now.
As it was, Wren smiled lightly at Chandra coming in, giving her a small nod, but his attention was on Demare. "I," he said quietly, "suppose I am, but ... I think I know what you mean by that." This boy, he wasn't quite a demon, and he wasn't an angel either. "But I'm not so lucky at times." He shook his head and glanced down at Lafe.
The fox-child was crawling about in his arms again, leaning out over them all most as if he was trying to get a better look at who had come in and gone past. This one, this was the one that had tried to play music for him. There was something about her ... Lafe's tail swished, ears cocked and straining to listen. It had been a complete and utter mistake to go on that past-midnight walk and allow his beyond weary feet bring him where they would. It took him so long - more than a month now! - to build something "better" for himself. Just a mindless, careless walk leads to the destruction of all that he'd accomplished. Door handle under hand, he runs his left thumb across the thick metal, completely in a state of separation of mind and body. Something about this seems all too familiar, he decides, but his throat is rough and dry from a hard night at the club where he had just recently performed his third gig this week. Two more are set for tomorrow, and here he is, Headquarters door handle in hand and his feet finally going nowhere. The door tugs open without warning, or rather without intent on Dare's part. He hadn't noticed his hand beginning to push in the appropriate way, the way that felt most natural, to open the door. And then it hit him, just as the soft and warm glow of indoors touches his face in a similar way. Except this.. this isn't comforting like the Headquarters used to and still felt like they should be. No, this is the enemy now, and he had, quite literally, walked up to the doorstep and allowed himself passage inside. Inside the dimly lit kitchen, Chandra started pulling open cabinets and drawers in search of a towel. When she found one on top of a pile of identical ones in a corner drawer, she pulled out out and cupped it in her hand. Then, moving more purposefully, she made her way over to pull the freezer open. The door opened much easier than she had anticipated, sending it flying open with a bang. Startled, Chandra reached with a slightly trembling hand to take out an ice tray. Lafe nearly jumped at the sound of the bang his ears and was suddenly hunching down in Wren's arms. There were so many noises. With the sound of that door opening, piercing silvery-blues were focused on the door way, despite the sudden noise.
His eyes were wide, staring at the figure that was coming inside. And father? Father was only shifting him in his arms, and that wasn't it at all.Demare could only listen at the moment, feeling he understood well enough what Wren was saying. It was true... Neither demon, nor angel, and not good enough to be human. The only place he belonged was here, and yet at the same time... did he really belong there?
He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped as the door opened once more. Glancing over his shoulder, his bi-colored eyes rested upon the musician that stood at the doorway, recognizing him only from having seen him play the guitar once as a baby. A stranger... A feeling of uncertainty. At the same time, however, something felt wrong. Why did the man look...
Demare's thoughts were interrupted by the sound from the kitchen, his head quickly snapping back to look forward. Chandra had gone in that direction, hadn't she? ...No, why did he care? Why did he feel concerned? But what if something happened? Someone else would surely take care of it. Someone else... I hate this.
"...If you'll excuse me for a moment," the child muttered as he cautiously made his way toward the kitchen, unsure if the woman really even wanted any help. He had to see, though, just to at least ease his mind.
Upon reaching the doorway, he merely peered inside the dimly lit room and waited for a moment before piping up, "You okay?"Chandra looked back over her shoulder from where she was putting ice cubes into a towel by the sink at the sound of Demare's voice. Her gaze quickly flicked to the still open freezer door before returning to the split child. "I am fine," she said, nodding slightly. "The freezer door seems to be loose on its hinges." She faced the sink again and turned on the faucet to refill the ice cube tray she had emptied. When it was filled to her satisfaction, she walked over slowly to replace it in the freezer, which she closed with care. "I needed ice cubes," she said, rather unnecessarily. Returning to the bench, she gathered up the towel full of ice cubes and placed it against the side of her face. "The ice should reduce swelling." Wren nodded his head, eyes closing, and then it -- damnit. Why had he let himself get caught up in his thoughts about demons and angels and his existence. He turned ( Lafe squirming in his arms, trying to scramble up and look over his shoulder ) towards the kitchen and took a step forward and another.
Chandra, as he was sure that was her, had a bruise underneath her eye. Though Demare was all ready there, he was wondering if it was a situation that required an adult. ( And he could all ways thank his grandmother for her teaching him things in regards to healing and first aid. ) Somehow, he doubted it, but ...
Ice and swelling? Well, that would do it. He finally looked down at Lafe who had managed to make his way up to his shoulder. ... kid was part squirrel, had to be.Demare blinked once, then twice before it completely clicked in his mind. She'd been hurt?? Who would hit a gi--... Well, he wasn't really one to talk, since he tended to beat up on Minami all the time. But she wasn't a girl! he used to protest.
"Can... I ask what happened?" he asked quietly, wondering in the back of his mind if there was something he could do. If Clare had only tapped into his powers...Dare stares dumbly into the fairly well lit hallway, blinking twice before the entire thing processes in his head. "... s**t." It's not too late to turn around, he reasons, hesitating only slightly before shutting the door on the light and the scene. The harsh contrast of light and dark, having now shut himself off from basically the only light source, forces his eyes shut with a slight sting. He gladly takes this opportunity to rub at his closed and tired eyes, enjoying this chance for more reasons than one. Had anyone seen him come in..? Doesn't matter. They wouldn't say anything, and if they did end up ratting on him he'd.. he'd.. Deny it all. Or, blame it on being so bloody tired. Yeah, that's a belivable explination. In this prolonged anguish, Dare's shoulder falls limp, the strap of his precious guitar case, still in perfect condition considering all circumstances, slides across the material of his jacket, threatening to fall off. With a mixture of a sigh and a growl, he separates his left hand from its soothing place against his eyes and forehead to nudge the strap into a more comfortable and safe position. None the less, fate seems to like sending its demons after the Ranger this night. When he takes a step backwards from immediately facing the doorway, the porch wood breathes a sigh and gives out just a tad, but enough to send noises through the night air. First, the wood groans and snaps in more than one place, next exhaling as a toe sized hole splinters in the ground beneath his foot. His heel slams down in response, creating even more of a racket than he wished wouldn't happen.. Eyes moving from foot to door to wood to foot again, he does nothing more than to short circuit on the spot. Hissing angrily, he curses quite colourfully, having picked up on that from the downtown life. Tugging at his thick boot, he tries to pry his foot away from the wreckage. Someone was bound to have heard now, but if he's fast enough they'll be lucky to catch a glimpse of his back when he runs away. Chandra wondered how effective ice would be given that she already had a lower than normal body temperature, but she kept that speculation to herself. Meeting Demare's eyes with her own, she raised one eyebrow slightly at his question. "You may ask, but I will choose not to answer. My weaknesses are my own affair." She broke eyesight with him to look over at Wren and Lafe, who had also appeared in the area. Was everyone there to stare at her? She had not made that much noise. Feeling uncomfortable, Chandra was relieved when she heard a sound outside. Her eyes narrowed and she marched out into the living room, blowing past Demare and Wren. "Kiran, if you have followed me..." She muttered, throwing open the front door. "I will only put up with so much of this nonsense!" Lafe hadn't been staring, no, his attention had been on the front door and the man that had gone back out it. Though the fact that Chandra went breezing right by made him swish his tail a little bit, but she was all ready gone by. For the baby, this was all very much interesting.
Wren, however, merely shrugged his shoulders. "Her business," he said simply, leaving it at that. Though it worried him, that she was bruised. That was general, though, odd that he was filled with such compassion for others at times.
... but who was Kiran? Since Chandra was moving that fast.Well. Isn't this just peachy? His eyes kept low, Dare gives his foot another violent tug. He could recognize that voice anywhere, though it has a slightly older touch to it now. That clue doesn't settle in, though, with the irritated and extremely exhasted Ranger as his plan of excape has been exposed and tossed aside. Another tug of the same value, and his foot breaks free from the broken board, rocking him backwards just a little. Fuming silently at himself, as he knows this unwanted encounter has no one to blame but him, Dare grits his teeth and keeps his eyes fixated in a glare at the hole. "Nonsense is right, eh? That's all I've ever been 'round here, nothing but amusement for everyone's ******** pleasure. S'all I'm ever gonna be, used but never damn taken seriously." Forcing out a dry and bitter laugh, he shoves his gloved hands into his pockets, his eyes keeping their place on the darkness surrounding his feet. "Nothing to see here, gate's closed, show's over, time to pack up and leave for the next town, to amuse the next set of people." He closes his eyes, the area around his left temple pounding, and his entire body feels as if it cries out simply for rest that usually comes after the eyes are closed. Demare was still as Chandra slipped past him, not even bothering to look back as he heard the sounds from outside and then the front door opening. The musician... There was something wrong with that man. However, his throughts had remained on wondering who Kiran was. Was that the thing that hurt her? This... Kiran.
None the less, the child couldn't help but feel a little helpless. He shouldn't have asked. After all, he never let anyone meddle with his affairs, so why did he expect someone to allow him to help in theirs? Why did he even CARE?? The feeling was so odd... He sighed lightly, finally turning around to see that Wren and Lafe had also come to the kitchen.
"Are girls always like that?" he couldn't help but ask."You are not Kiran." Chandra said, startled. "The nonsense remark was for Kiran." She had just assumed. Who else would be out skulking around in the dark? With her free hand, Chandra nervously adjusted her clothes without being aware of it. Then she transferred the ice filled towel to her other hand and reached out to Dare. "Are you physically stable?" Lafe was shifting and moving about, but finally settled with a huff back in Wren's arms. There was no getting to look at what he wanted, though his ears went flat against his head, as if blocking out additional noise. His fingers were back to holding his tail, tugging on it lightly.
Wren smothered a small chuckle and glanced over at Demare. "Ah, well, not all, but if some have that type of personality -- then yes. Anybody can be like that though, Demare." However, it was curious. The fact that something was going on and ... well. Wren just hoped that there wouldn't be a fight. He didn't need to play mediator to teenagers.
Wasn't his business anyway.Dare barks a laugh of surprise. Stable? Well sure, his foot wasn't broken or sprained or anything. "I'm just fine," he insists immediately after a quick inspection of a foot twist. As her hand comes into view, however, he might as well have waited to answer that question. Eyes following up from her hand to the origin of her shoulder, the height alone indicated the change to the Ranger. He doesn't take the hand offered to him; instead, his eyes are glued in stupid bewilderment at the sight he really hadn't bargained to expect when he looked up. From behind dark glasses, Dare's green eyes change from their tired usual glance to a full out, widened awe at his oldest friend's transformation. "What the hell happened to you?" he says in a weakened voice; whether the weakness was from his earlier vigorous singing or.. otherwise.. he couldn't [or wouldn't] tell. "You went and got old on me, Chandra." As she realized that he didn't need assistance, Chandra withdrew her hand and used it to placed the now slightly damp towel back up by her eye. She really wasn't sure what to say to Dare, so she concentrated on continuing to breathe and ignoring the odd feeling in the pit of her stomach like she was falling into a bottomless pit. "I," she started, trailing off in an uncharacteristic manner. "As you said, I got older. It has been a while since we last spoke." She took a deep breath, placing her free hand lightly over her stomach. Looking pointedly at Dare's shoulder, she wondered what she should even say. He seemed to be in a poor mood, which made the likelihood of him forgetting his feelings about their last encounter low. "Why were you skulking around in the dark outside the HQ?" Fully awake now, or as best as he'll ever get running on four hours of sleep for the past few weeks, Dare hangs on to every motion and word that Chandra expells. From this angle, he hadn't yet noticed the black eye, and that's probably for the best. Tipping his sunglasses over his eyes, he leans past her to shut the door, closing out even more light from his person. "I wasn't doing anything," he says very roughly, his throat scratchy and increasingly sore. His large boots make a point to walk in the space around the hole, bringing him to the ledge of the porch area. Back turned on her, he finds it much easier to talk to her as if she wasn't really there. Leaning forward on his arms, he squints through the dark glasses. Absolutely nothing can be distinguished from this view of the lawn - good. "When'd'it happen?" His voice is lower, perhaps to emphasize something but in another respect to save his voice. He'd need it, if she was going to bring up .. that. Pain underlies the tone he uses, and he doesn't bother to remove it from his speech. It happened, they both knew it. Sticking around small talk would probably be best for the time being.. Demare only huffed at the thought, rolling his eyes a little bit. Girls were weird, he decided, and grown up girls were the worst. They were pretty, though, he had to admit... However, it just wasn't for him. Glancing toward the door for a moment, he noticed the angered mood had changed into a slightly sappy one. BLEH!! Okay, now he didn't want to be here anymore.
But how to leave without having to see them?
Looking around for a moment, he didn't really notice any doors in the back. Well, there went plan a! There weren't really any windows, either, so plan b was out as well. Thinking for a moment, it only left him with one option. ...It was just a matter of being not seen.
Glancing at Wren and Lafe for a moment, he waited for them to look away before he quietly stepped closer to the wall, and a little further down the dark hallway. Concentrating for a moment, his two red eyes opened fully as the halfling child began to melt into the shadows, watching the two until he seemed to just disappear from the headquarters completely.

An invitation? Aki paused as Levi twisted around to glare at her, holding her hands up innocently. He was being rather snippy ever since he'd woken up from his 'nap.' She'd assumed he was asleep for the night...he'd gone right to bed once they'd gotten home from the beach! Apparently she'd woken him cleaning, and the lad was not pleased to stumble out of his room and find her putting away all of his carefully hoarded trinkets! "Ahbak! Goh!" Waving his hands in a floppy shooing motion, Levi scrunched his face up at his guardian indignantly. Sighing, Aki took yet another step back. That was the same thing he said to the seagulls when they got too close to his lunch! "Good luck getting the door open on your own, sweetie! I'll be here if you need me!" Shrugging, Aki took a seat on the low garden wall...crossing her legs and leaning her weight back on her hands. Levi's glower changed slowly to concern as he stared up at the door. The large, closed door. "Guh..." Knobs were one thing he hadn't quite mastered! Guinevere, toddiling ahead of her mother raced up the stairs to the HQ and stood almost plowed herself into the little pirate legend, not expeciting someone to be out there waiting. "Hewwo!" She said happily, waving her little hand at him. She thought she had recognized him from before, maybe playing that ball game way back when, but she never got to really talk to him and even forgot his name. Standing up on her tippy toes she reached for the knob and turned it, just as Pink came up behind them and ushered everybody through the door before turning and walking promptly to her couch. Inside the doorway, Guinevere stuck out her hand and spoke. "My name is Guinevere. Who you?" Taking a wobbling step back, Levi stared for a moment at the girl. She was so good at things! Not only did she open the door, but she talked almost like Aki did! Without a moment's thought, he followed the girl inside. Looking from her bright face to her hand, Levi furrowed his brow in thought. Why was she pushing her hand out?! The answer dawned on him slowly. With a comforting smile, Levi leaned forward and gave the back of her hand a messy smootch, just like Aki did when he was hurt. Turning that knob must have been rougher than he thought! "Awbettah! Ahna 'Evi!" Introducing himself the best he could, Levi gave his biggest smile...a fox eyed grin behind tumbling dark bangs. ** Aki was already on her feet, nodding to the other guardian as the children pushed in. She'd barely opened her mouth by the time Levi leaned forward and gave Guinevere's hand a kiss. "Eeee! Um, Levi...you're supposed to shake hands! She doesn't have a boo boo!" He was just determined to be difficult!! Guinevere giggled as the legend slobbered on her hand. As he spoke she understood he was one of the younger ones and didn't understand hand shakes, after all she, had just picked that up from her mommy recently. "Hi Evi. I gots no booboos. I just say hi. Big peoples she hands." She said, feeling all grown up all of a sudden. She gently clasped her hand with his and shook them up and down, adding her whole body to the shake too for she thought this was much more intresting. Just as she let go of his hand she was suddenly whisked up off the ground. "I'm sorry," Pink interjected to both the little one and its mother, "But I just got an important call and we have to go home. I hope to see you around soon!" She said, pulling a pouting Guinevere out of the room. Levi laughed in delight as the girl-with-the-name-he-couldn't-say taught him how to shake hands...shaking back with enthusiasm. His eyes went wide, however, as she was snatched away...bottom lip trembling dangerously. Aki's eyes went wide as well...she'd never seen Levi cry! He looked pretty darn close at the moment. The poor boy took a few steps towards the departing pair, making grabby hands at Guin...landing on his bottom with an oomph! as the door shut abruptly behind them. Turning to peer at Aki over his shoulder, Levi sighed sadly. "Gawn!"Bending to scoop him up and rest him on one hip, Aki bounced him reassuringly. "Easy come easy go, hmm? Don't worry...we'll find you someone else to play with!" Twisting around to see if there was a toy chest, still bouncing Levi on her hip, Aki didn't notice his last longing glance towards the door... Demare sighed softly as he looked at the door for a long moment, his hands clutching onto the bare part of his arms to help a little bit with the chilly air. Why did he always have to come here during the night, anyway? The day was at least warm, and was more likely to have people inside the headquarters. No matter... he was here now, and that's all there was to it.
Reaching a hand down, the legend grabed the knob and turned, pushing the door open a little bit with his shoulder as his bi-colored eyes peered into the lobby. Such an eerie silence, as always... but he could feel the presense of another inside. Opening the door a little more, he searched again, until he spotted the blonde woman and dark child he'd met last week. Well, this shouldn't be so bad... He DID want to see the child again, after all. Releasing the handle, Demare pushed the door open enough for him to slip inside, then closed the door quietly wish his foot as he removed the tattered black scarf from his neck. It felt good to be inside... It was warm, and so much more inviting than the night was. Folding the material as he walked, Demare moved over toward the lobby's inhabitants, his wings ruffling and stretching a little bit.
"Hello," he said softly with a little smile. "How are you two this evening?"Jumping and twisting as the door creaked open, Levi stared towards it...hope fading into a sad smile as Demare appeared. Raising one hand in a little wave Levi put on a brave face...dropping his gaze to his little feet. Aki could only sigh, offering a warmer smile to the older Legend. "Don't mind him...he's a little sad that Guin left so suddenly. How are you, Demare? Is Manior well?" Levi glanced up again at them mention of Guin's name. Did this boy know her? Pushing to his feet, he tottered towards Demare...staring up at him gravely. He didn't look like he would be a friend of hers, but then again, the little girl had proved she was full of surprises! "Demahe." Holding one hand up as Guin had taught him, Levi kept his gaze steady. He would make her proud! Demare blinked a few times, noting Levi's apparent sadness. Oh dear... He hated seeing others upset, for any reason. Guinevere had been there...? It had been a really long time since he saw the happy little girl, so a part of himself felt a little sad that he'd missed his friend.
"I'm all right, ma'am," he replied, keeping his smile, "as is Manny. What about yourself?"
His wings twitched a little bit as Levi teetered towards him, a little confused as the child held out his hand. He looked so... determined. Crouching down so he could be closer to the small child's level, he carefully took the tiny hand in his own and shook it gently.
"It's nice to actually meet you, Levi," he said politely, setting his scarf down on the floor for a moment. "And, if it would be easier for you, it would be okay to call me Dema or Dede.""Dema...yus." Nodding to himself, Levi shook back...moving his whole body like Guin had shown him. Glancing back up at Demare, Levi squished up one eye...peering at the boy's bicolored gaze. "Why? Wha is?"Aki chucked in embarrassment, smoothing her skirt habitually. "Sorry, Demare...I haven't taught him many manners aside from 'thank you.' Aside from that, we're doing well...please give Manny a kiss for me when you see him next!" There was little she could do to staunch Levi's rude behavior. Settling down in a nearby chair, she pulled her sling back around onto her lap...rummaging through it quietly. Levi spared her a brief glance before turning back to Demare, his expression making it clear he was still interested in having his question answered. The other boy had such interesting eyes...why didn't Levi have eyes like that?! Demare was once again confused. If only he could still understand baby speak...
"Um... Why what? What is what?" he asked, hoping to maybe clear up a little bit of the confusion. Why was Levi squinting like that...? First he'd called him a pigeon, now does he look strange?
Glancing to Aki for a moment, he nodded in agreement before looking nervously back to Levi. Hmmm... Something about the kid still bothered him a little bit. What was it that he reminded him of?Grinning slowly, a sly smile, Levi poked himself in the eye before pointing back to Demare. Speaking carefully and clearly, remembering the way Guin spoke so effortlessly, Levi made a valiant effort. "Why?!"Finally withdrawing a novel from her bag, Aki glanced up at the boys...flipping the cover open slowly after she decided not to interfere. If she kept answering for Levi, there would be no reason for him to learn to speak properly... Dropping her gaze to the book once more, Aki smiled. She was proud of her boy...Sinclaire had taught him well. He was so self reliant...he didn't look back to Aki once for help! Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, Levi yawned...trying his best to keep his eyes open in case Demare chose then to answer. Demare was a bit surprised at first as the little boy poked himself in the eye, but when he pointed back to him, he understood what he was saying. Why? That single word just seemed to echo throughout his mind, his smile fading... Perhaps it was a good thing Demian was asleep.
The child thought for a moment, releasing Levi's hand finally to rest it on the floor for more balance. He was so little... Not as young as he looked, he knew somehow, but his mind was still maturing. Would he even understand if he explained the real reason why he was the way he was?
...Demare decided not to chance it. Demian had already slipped up once, but Chandra was someone else. She was... different. Just like us.
A smile curled back onto his lips, but his eyes merely showed sadness. "I was born this way," he explained, his wings drooping a little bit. "I guess you could say I have... two sides."Opening his mouth to ask the same question again, Levi abruptly reconsidered. He remembered the time Aki had asked him to see his doubloon...it annoyed him more every time she asked! Instead, Levi reached up...patting Demare's cheek gently. "Hokay." Nodding to himself, Levi's smile turned genuine as he put the issue behind him. He didn't fully understand, but then...nor did Aki. Some things were secret. This he understood. Instead, he glanced around for the ball, covering his yawn with a fist. He recalled there being a ball here once, but where it was now was beyond him. Defeated, he glanced back to the boy before him...offering Demare a shrug. "Ahno baw. Ahnana see tiepoos?!"This one Aki did feel obligated to translate. "I took Levi to the tidepools today...if I'm not mistaken, he's inviting you over to come see them. We'd love to have you, and Manny as well if you'd like!" Offering the boy a smile, Aki glanced back to her book...flipping the page quietly. How great that Levi was making friends...older friends at that! Demare chuckled a little bit, finally taking a seat down in front of Levi, crossing his legs Indian-style.
"I'd love to see them!" he said happily, feeling better to be off the last subject. "I'm sure Manny would enjoy it, as well. I'll talk to Neko about visiting soon..."
The kid liked the sea, it seemed. And after thinking about it for a moment, it started to make a little sense.
"Say, Levi? What kinds of things do you like?" Demare asked curiously, hoping to gain a few more pieces to the puzzle."Hoooo!" Levi's eyes glittered beneath his bangs, lips curving in a smile that was much too old for him. Leaning forward, lowering his voice to a whisper, Levi did his best to make the words well. This he could answer! But first... "AKIIIIII!"Yanking her head up abruptly, blushing at the chapter she'd just been reading, Aki blinked at Levi...instantly recognizing the little grabby hands he was making. "Fine, but it's your allowance for tomorrow! You've already gotten todays!" Levi smiled and nodded in acceptance, hands curling around the loose change she dug out of her pocket. Dropping it carefully upon the carpet, sitting cross-legged just like Demare, Levi carefully stacked the assorted coins. "Dis! Aaahhhhnnn...Gwin! Aaaaahhhn....tiepoos! Aaaahhhn...."Levi glanced upwards, chewing his lip as he thought about what else he liked. Aki asked him this question every night at dinner! Shrugging, Levi consented that he'd either reached the end of his likes or the end of his vocabulary. Peering up curiously once more at Demare, he raised a brow in puzzlement. "Yuh? Wha yike?"Demare couldn't help but laugh silently at Levi as he listed off the things he liked, listening intently as he stacked the coins on the floor. He liked to collect coins, huh? ...Coins... Tidepools... Guinevere... A bit of an odd combination, but again it made sense.
Thinking about the question himself for a moment, his wings stretched a little bit as he tried to decide what exactly he liked. He didn't have to compensate for Demian's likes since Levi didn't know about him, right?
"Well... I like just about everyone I've met," he started, smiling at Levi, "and I like flowers, and feathers, and just about anything soft." Hesitating for a moment, he reached to his side and carefully took his dagger from his bandages, then carefully took hold of the gift from Chandra. "I also like this, and my pendant."Flowers? Feathers? Soft things?! Levi glanced at Aki suspiciously...those sounded like her answers! Glancing back at Demare with widening eyes, Levi smiled suddenly as he put two and two together. Dema didn't like treasure...or tidepools...OR Gwin! That meant...it was all Levi's!!! "Ha! Hokay!" Still grinning, Levi made an abrupt desicion and pushed suddenly to his feet...ambling across the room to the next closed door. It wasn't the front door...Levi had no idea where is led! Pointing to the door knob, Levi looked quietly back to Demare. Aki, engrossed in her novel, never noticed. Smiling to herself, she flipped another page...blush rising once more as her eyes scanned the petite text. Letting his pendant hang back down and slipping his dagger back into his bandages around his sides, Demare watched Levi toddle to the unknown door. Did... he want to explore? Blinking his bi-colored eyes a few times, the halfling legend stood up and stepped over toward the small child, glancing at the door.
"You want me to open it?" he asked, just to be sure, lightly placing a hand on the doorknob. "Or would you like to open it?"Considering briefly, brow furrowing, Levi finally nodded...raising one hand to the knob. If Gwin could do it... Fumbling for a few moments, wavering on his tiptoes, Levi finally raised his other hand. It wasn't easy, but he knew it could be done! Sighing in irritation, Levi whumped back onto his heels...taking a breath before giving it a second try. Pushing upwards, fingers slipping against the greybrass knob, Levi stumbled at a sudden clink. The door was open!! Chuckling quietly, he grinned up at Demare before ambling inside...hands waving cautiously in the too-dark hall. This was new! Levi giggled, turning to see if his companion followed. "Dema?""... so we're stopping by here why?" Kojak asked, situated on Wren's head and leaning against one of his horns. He had been picked up by his bonded and the fox-child on the way back home, but apparently they were heading somewhere else.
"Because I just want to stop in for a little bit with Lafe. Even though he's trying to bite -- Lafe, stop it! -- me for taking him away from home and not bringing Alex along." Wren's lips twitched slightly, adjusting the pooka child in his arms as he was trying to rapidly scramble for freedom.
Lafe just let out a tiny disgruntle growl and huffed as he leaned back against Wren. They were going back inside that building and he didn't really want to. He wanted to go back home and play! ... who cared if it was night time? Though he cast a silvery gaze up to the faerie on father's head. Between Kojak and Hawk's Eye, the fox-child was being kept fairly well distracted from most attempts at biting.
Not that Wren was realizing that at the moment, he had his hands full as he went on inside with a huff of his own.Demare looked into the dark room for a moment a little worriedly, not able to see much of anything due to the poor lighting. However, Levi had gone inside, so he should too, right? ...Not without light, though.
Closing his eyes for a moment, he lifted his left hand a little bit and clenched his fist tight, concentrating for a moment. Maybe... he could... There was a slight warm sensation in his hand, and he pried his white eye open, his hand glowing a soft red as something formed in the palm of his hand. Opening his fist slowly, a tiny orb hovered a little bit over his palm, light pouring into the room much like a small lamp would. It wasn't much, but at least it made things a little more visable.
"I'm right here, Levi," he said, stepping into the room quietly. He could hear voices in the lobby, but he didn't want to leave the small child alone.Spinning as light poured into the darkness, Levi stared at Demare...little hands clenched into fists as a smile crept across his face. What he saw beyond the lad was more amazing yet... Another young one! Squinting through the doorway, Levi sighed...taking one last look to the dark hall behind them. He could keep going, but whoever was out there might not wait. Tip toeing forward once more, Levi held his arms up to Demare. "Uhp. Goh."** Aki jumped once again as the front door swung open...snapping the novel shut and tucking it into her bag. "Hello!" Smiling awkwardly at the newcomers, Aki twisted suddenly to look for Levi...who, most likely, had gone through that open door! A single minute, and he had already disappeared! "'Lo," Wren replied, a grin on his face all ready, but his attention was quickly pulled away from Aki as Lafe had apparently decided it was time to start squirming again. ( Even if he was all ready completely inside, the door shut. ) Ignoring both the amusement he felt from Hawk's Eye and the laughs from Kojak, Wren sighed and shifted his arms to adjust his grip on the fox-child. "Lafe, I can't set you down yet and I won't let you go -- so stop all ready."
Lafe's tail lashed about in mild irritation for being held like this. When would he learn that he didn't like being held? Not by him, not by anyone, but he'd put up with it. His ears twitched about, listening for the sounds of others. He lifted his head up, sniffing slightly at the air. ... there were others present, mostly ones he couldn't recognize, but there was at least one that he knew. He let out another huff and grabbed his tail to hold on to.Demare leaned down as Levi reached up toward him, and quickly took the hint. With his right arm, he carefully and gently took up the little legend in his arm and turned around, heading back out to the lobby. Allowing the little orb he'd formed to disappear, he brought his other arm around for a little more support and balance, hoping Aki hadn't worried about not seeing the little one.
Once back in the lobby, he looked around for a moment, wondering who had come in.Studying the new child as his companion strolled into the front room, Levi drummed Dema gently with his feet as they stopped before the strangers. Stretching out of Demare's grasp, slowly back to his own two feet, Levi offered Lafe a small smile. "Eh? Levi offered his hand up in the gesture he'd just learned...wavering as he kept his focus on the child in Wren's arms. ** Letting out the breath she had been holding, Aki sighed happily as Demare strolled into view, bearing Levi. That had gone much better than it could have! The lad was back, no harm done...Aki smiled and offered Demare a grateful look as Levi awaited his introduction. "I'm Aki...have you met Levi?" In truth, she had no way of knowing...Sinclaire might have already introduced the young pirate! "Name's Wren, and I've not met Levi," the red-head answered honestly. There weren't that many of the Legends that he had come across and met himself. "And, this is Lafe. He's a little shy, so you'll have to forgive him." With a smile, Wren glanced down at the fox-child and then up at Aki. And a little shy? Probably an understatement.
"And it's good to see you, Demare." The man just gave the child a friendly grin in hello, shifting on his feet some.
Lafe watched closely when the others came closer. Demare, he recognized, his eyes focused on the child for a moment in curiousity, before he was distracted by the other baby. One that was something close to his own size. Fingers still clutched around his tail, ears cocked back just slightly, Lafe leaned over a bit to look at Levi from Wren's arms. The fox-child just stared at Levi intensely, silvery-blue eyes focused on him, but otherwise he wasn't making a move. Demare bowed his head a little bit, a small smile curling up on his lips.
"It's good to see you again too, si--...I mean, Wren," he said politely, lifting a hand to wave a hello to Lafe. "I'm afraid I have to be going, however. I don't want to worry Neko..."
Stepping over to where he'd been sitting before, the child knelt down and took up his scarf from the floor before turning to Aki. "I'll be sure to talk to my guardian about arranging a visit, ma'am. I'm sure she'll be happy to meet you, as well."Dropping his hand slowly, Levi peered back at the tiny foxchild. He seemed...like he was keeping a secret. A secret so big he had to keep his mouth shut tight, lest he let it out. Levi was burning to know what that secret was. For a moment, Aki was puzzled...why would Demare be leaving so suddenly? Eyes straying up to the clock, she realized abruptly why...it was so late!! Raising one hand, Aki waved as she got to her feet as well. "That would be great, Demare! Perhaps I'll see you here again soon, another night!" With an apologetic smile to the newcomers, Aki nodded towards the clock. "It was nice to meet you both, sorry it was so brief! Levi, would you say goodnight to Wren and Lafe?" Levi could barely believe his ears, and his expression said as much. Staring in shock at Aki as she scooped him up, Levi didn't even have time to struggle. He'd been caught! "Baaai!! Bai kikikiii!" Flapping one hand in a wave to Lafe, Levi glanced back sadly...he hadn't gotten to explore the Dark Hall, or talk to Lafe! Aki simply wasn't fair! Lafe's eyes were calmly focused on Levi, since Demare was all ready on the move. His ears flicked forward, briefly, as if listening on the conversation that Aki was having, but his gaze didn't falter. After a few more moments, however, as Levi was caught and picked up by Aki, Lafe finally leaned back. His tail swished a little, free from his hands.
"Ah, yes, take care Demare. Be safe." Wren said, glancing up to Kojak who had decided to doze where he was situated. "And, we're likely to run into each other again, I'm sure, Aki. It was nice meeting you and Levi." There was a slight grin to Wren's face. He probably should be getting home as well, before Lafe came out of his quiet state and decided that he wanted his freedom again and -- well, getting him home was for the best.
Chuckling and waving goodbye to Aki and Levi, Wren followed behind a few moments later. Of course as they were going, Lafe finally offered a tiny wave of his hand to Levi. It was just questionable if the other saw it or not.

On March 23, 2005, Neko Why me? Why is it always me? What the ******** have I done to deserve this?! I swear if there's a God, then he must hate me because otherwise I don't see why this would have happened. Everything was fine. Everything was going well. I had Manior with... a slight complication, but for the most part the birth was FINE. I was up and moving around like nothing happened within a week, and Manior was totally healthy. Domonic was the best father a kid could have, Demare was actually behaving for a little while, EVERYTHING WAS FINE! So why the ******** did I turn back into a man?! It's like I'm not allowed to have any peace in this place! Everywhere I turn, something has to happen. Anything... Everything! Is it a sin for me to be ******** happy?! Is it so wrong for me to enjoy my life for once? I've been suffered for what... a god damn millennia and I STILL haven't had enough? Yeah, that's right, I'm ******** talking to you, Fate. You too, Destiny! Don't think I'm letting you off the hook as well! Gods be damned, this sucks. It's been a month, one entire month... since Manior was born. Something weird happened at the hospital before I went into labor, and I had an odd dream about an old friend of mine. I'm thought I'd just fallen asleep, but I found out recently that I apparently had died. Thanks, Domonic. Thank you for not ******** telling me this until last week. I ******** trust you, and you don't even tell me a ******** DIED?! Fine. FINE. What the ******** ever. Anyway, the labor itself was easy. It ******** HURT like nothing else I've ever felt, but through the deliver itself there weren't any problems. Manny was born very healthy, and very precious. He's adorable and I love the kid to death, but DAMN he acts just like a cat. Granted, he's part cat demon, but I mean geez... He can ******** PURR. I can only do that on rare occasions, and only Domonic will know what those are. The nurse gave him this cute little rattle while we were at the hospital, and he just loves that thing. He won't let me see it, either... Not unless he's holding onto it. If he wants attention, he ******** shakes that bugger until I swear it's going to break. Hopefully when he gets older, Manny will start using his voice some more. He's curious about nearly everything. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. He learned pretty quick not to pull on any ears, though. He's got pretty sensitive hearing himself, so that bark from Candy taught him pretty quick. At first, Demare wasn't too happy about becoming an older brother. He threw a fit at first, then he tortured Manny for a while, and then he gave up after the baby didn't show any fear of him. (It's kinda weird, too... Demare even shoved his dagger in the kid's face, and he didn't make so much as a whimper. He giggled happy and tried to play with the blade.) Sometimes he actually sits down and plays with him, which really surprised me. He won't be such a bad brother, I don't think... It's just a matter of getting HIM to see that. Everything was fine. Everything was okay. Everything was ******** perfect. Then, it happened. Since Manny had been born, I'd been feeling a little strange. I felt like something was being drained out of my body, but I still felt fine, ya know? I didn't figure out what exactly it was that was leaving me until it was too late, however. Almost exactly two weeks after the baby was born, I turned back into a ******** man. A ******** HUMAN man, nonetheless. And I couldn't change myself back. Due to having had ******** DIED two weeks prior, my natural magic structure got all ******** up and was literally just draining out of my body. Unfortunately, it was my natural magic that allowed me to keep my humanesque form, and for one reason or another when my magic completely drained itself, my body decided that it would take the least amount of magic to hold a human form. No thanks to Domonic a few months ago, the only human form my body could remember was my MALE human form. Again, thank you Domonic. What the ******** am I supposed to do now?! I can't use any magic, I'm not all that great with potions, and no one here ******** understands why this makes me so upset! It's one thing to be a man. It's another thing to look like some ******** human. Nothing against them or anything, especially since Domonic looks like one and I thought he was one, but I just don't like it. I hide my wings because I don't want to be found out. I did NOT hide my ears or tail because I thought it was ******** WRONG. I didn't hide them because I didn't feel a ******** need to. Why should I hide who I am? Why the ******** should I pretend to be something I'm not? Gods, I couldn't deal with the thought of this as a kid, I couldn't deal with having been turned into a human back during my travels 5,000 years ago, I threw a fit when Domonic did this to me a few months back, so why the ******** does everyone think I can deal with this NOW?! I'm not a ******** human, so I don't want to ******** look like one, damn it! They don't understand because they don't have to deal with it. It ******** pisses me off that they would even think that this is okay. I honestly could care less about being a guy right now. I really could. I had to deal with it for a couple of months last year, so I'm used to the body. It's the fact that I look human that bothers me so much, so I'm constantly feeling irritated. I know I'm being the biggest b***h in the world right now... I'm an inconsiderate p***k, I admit it! But if they were in my shoes right now, then they'd ******** understand why it seems like there's something crawling up my a** all ******** day. I've been getting into arguments and fights with Domonic almost daily. It's like everything he does pushes a button and I just can't control my anger right now. I'm scaring the s**t out of Demare, Manny doesn't really seem to be affected, and I swear Domonic's getting fed up, and I don't blame him. Most of the other residents have decided to leave me alone, and it's a little disappointing to see them leave the room when I come in half the time, but... I really don't blame them. Hell, if this was happening to someone else and I was living with them, I'd stay the ******** away from them, too! I'm scaring myself, for crying out loud! I mean... I serious cannot control 90% of the things I do right now, and it's not cool. I've gone as far as hitting Domonic -- I mean actually HITTING him -- and I've never done that before. Sure, I threw things at him a couple of times, but I missed on purpose. Last night, I outright decked him in front of the entire family, and then stormed off to my room. ...Last week I threw him up against the wall for asking me if I wanted to go out shopping. Why does he put up with me? Why hasn't he left? A part of me wishes he could, just so that I don't end up accidentally killing him. Or maybe I should be the one to leave. I'm the one dangerous, right? I'm the one going on a ******** rampage. Gods, I hate this. I hate this for ******** much and I can't STAND it anymore. It's gotten to the point where Demare's been leaving the house almost every night, and there isn't a goddamn thing I can do to make him stay home. It's not that I don't care about everyone else... There's just something different with him. I've been caring for him since he was a baby, ya know? I think of him like he was my own son... my own flesh and blood. And here he is, running away from me. What have I done to deserve this? What have a ******** done to deserve any of this? Gods I hope my magic comes back soon...

A Pirate's Treasure Aki dialed with trembling fingers, hanging up twice as she punched the wrong numbers. Taking a breath, forcing herself to calm, she tried to dial the HQ once more. -ring-It was hard to say what scared her more. The thought of Levi missing... -ring-Or the thought of going... down there...after him. -ring-Clutching the phone, pacing restlessly with bare feet over the cold stone floor of her kitchen, Aki squeezed her eyes shut and waited. Pick up. Someone please....pick up.Demare peered in through the door to the lobby, kind of shy-like the way he always did. The place was empty, regretably, but he decided to go inside anyway. Maybe someone would come by later... He hoped, at least. He kind of missed a lot of the other Legends, and with his guardian being busy, he hadn't been able to ask about visiting some of them. ...What was that ringing??
At first, he thought it was just something in his head, but after a moment he realized it sounded a lot like the ringing at home the phone made. There was a phone here...? His bi-colored eyes searched the lobby, listening as the phone continued to ring. Blinking a few times, he decided to walk toward the sound instead, stepping in the direction it was coming from as the noise got louder and louder. It was around there somewhere...
The sound had led him to a short hallway, where the ringing was now echoing throughout the halls. Demare winced a little bit, spotting the phone on the other end. How... annoying. Did Demian think that, as well? Cautiously, holding his hands over his ears, the halfing child stepped closer toward the horrible sound, moving to stand right in front of the telephone. Okay... making it stop was the next step. Thinking for a moment, he recalled seeing how Neko would pick up the phone and greet it, and it would talk back at her. This should work the same way, right?
Reaching his left hand away from his ear, he carefully picked up the receiver. ...The ringing stopped! Oh, wait... Now he was supposed to greet the phone. Pulling the receiver to his ear, he was silent for a moment, listening to see if anyone would say anything. Not hearing anything at first, he blinked a few times before piping up softly.
"Hello." Finally! An answer!! Aki sighed in relief as a quiet voice echoed through the phone, clutching it all the tighter to her ear.
"Hello?! This is Aki...Aki Ana! Levi's Guardian?! I think...I think he's lost, and I can't...I..." Taking a breath, Aki held back tears. She had to be clearer. The message she'd left for Wasa was no doubt just as incoherent! "I think I need...someone to give me a hand."
Taking another breath, Aki's brows furrowed suddenly. She'd been so wrapped up in getting through to the main building that she hadn't even asked! "Um...who...who am I speaking with? I'm sorry....I'm...a little worried about Levi. I don't mean to be rude..."
Trailing off uncertainly, Aki paused in her pacing...sinking down into a kitchen chair as her strength left her. She had to get herself together! Demare blinked as he heard the voice on the phone, listening to her unorganized rambles as he tried to piece together how this worked. So, did Neko always hear this voice when she picked up the phone? Or was it always someone different? After thinking about it for a moment, he realized exactly what was going on, and who it was he was talking to.
"Hello, ma'am," he said, perhaps too calm for his own good. "It's me, Demare. ...You said something happened to Levi? I got a little confused." "Demare?!" Aki stared with wide eyes into her kitchen, mind doing flip flops. Why was Demare answering the headquarters phone?!
Giving her head a tiny shake, tucking her wild hair behind her ear with shaking fingers, Aki sighed and forced herself to speak slowly. Demare was very kind and rather mature, but he was still a child. She didn't wish to scare him.
"I...yes. Levi is hiding somewhere in the house where I can't reach him. He's smaller than me, and can get into smaller places." Not the exact truth, but close enough. She hoped he was just hiding, at least. The thought of him being hurt, and unable to call for help was enough to turn her stomach.
"I was hoping someone there could give me some advice, or come give me a hand! Is your Guardian there, Demare? Or...do you have any ideas?" She was running out of options. In no way did Aki want to drag another child into this, but Demare was older, wiser...perhaps he knew something she didn't! Demare thought about this for a moment, trying to understand. Were they playing a game? Or did Levi just like to get away from Aki? (He knew a lot of good hiding tips, thanks to Demian's constant "avoiding Neko" strategies.) But, if Levi were just hiding... then why wouldn't he come out when called?
"Well, no one else is here at the moment, actually," he explained, his wings fidgeting a little bit, "and Neko doesn't come to headquarters with me much anymore. As far as advice goes, I don't really have any, assuming that you've tried calling him out already, and possibly 'bribing' him out."
Looking around for a moment, he decided to offer something else. "Perhaps I could come and help? I'm pretty small myself, and might be able to get into places you can't." "Aki listened silently, worry etched across her brow. That was exactly what she wanted...but she simply didn't expect the offer to come from Demare. Sighing once more, resting her forehead against the palm of her hand, Aki tried to think of a solution.
"I tried calling him, he either can't hear me or won't answer. I wouldn't mind your help Demare...but there are a few problems! You'd have to have...Neko?...Neko's permission, unless you're allowed to go where ever you want." That seemed doubtful to the elf, but people had different ways of raising their children.
"And unless those wings of yours are awfully strong, I think it might be a bit far for you to fly. I'd come get you, but I don't want to leave. In case...in case Levi calls for me." Chewing her lip to keep from crying, Aki swore her heart was about to break. Why did this have to happen?! She was so worried, and the thought of involving Demare wasn't helping.
"But, if you're allowed to come over, I can send a taxi to where you are, and pay for it when you arrive! Unless...you have another idea." She hated putting so many choices in the boy's hands, but there was no other Legend she knew better than Demare. If she'd trust anyone to help, it would be him. At the mention of flying, his wings flexed and relaxed, as if giving a silent protest to flight. Not that he flew much, anyway... Considering everything the poor worried woman had said, Demare felt that it would be okay. So long as he was with another guardian, Neko didn't particularly mind where he went outside of headquarters. This counted as the same thing, right?
"I'm sure my guardian would be okay with me going over there without her, especially if it's to help someone," he said with a smile. "And you don't have to worry about transportation, I have my own way of getting places. Could you tell me how to get there from headquarters? Depending on how far it is, I could probably be there in about 15 minutes."
She didn't have to know about his darker side's shadow skills, he decided. Relieved, Aki gave the address first...detailing turn by turn instructions after that. Offering every landmark she knew, she tried to make it as clear as possible. She was surprised Neko was so understanding...she'd have to send the family a thank you gift!!
Simply knowing someone would be on the way was a huge comfort. Pausing as Demare digested the last of the directions, Aki sighed in relief.
"I'm going to try to find him again, the front door will be open when you get here! I'll keep an eye out, and I'll have some lunch ready. Thank you, Demare. This means a lot to me."
Aki swallowed her guilt. She still hadn't confessed her fear of tunnels and enclosed little places. It was more than a fear...she verged on panic just thinking about having to descend. The dark was no problem, but being trapped like that...
Shuddering, Aki stopped thinking about it and tried to put a smile back in her voice. It would take Demare longer than 15 minutes to ride here on his bike...perhaps he was going to fly after all! It didn't matter to her one way or another, as long as he careful.
"I'll see you soon, I hope! Be safe on your way over! Bye!!" "Thank you, ma'am," he said politely, taking mental note of the directions. "I'll be there as soon as I can. Goodbye."
After a moment of trying to remember what to do next, Demare carefully placed the receiver back where it was to hang up the phone. Clare was quiet for a moment before he piped up in his mind, hoping Demian would understand.
"You heard all of that, right?" he asked.
"Yeah, I heard," Demian replied reluctantly. "What the hell do you want me to do about it?"
"I would very much appreciate it if you'd loan me your shadow skill temporarily. I just need it to get there, and then later to come back."
"Hmph. Not good enough."
"Please, Demian? Miss Aki sure sounds worried about Levi... I want to help her."
"Do you think I care?" Demian snapped, the body's balance faltering slightly.
Clare was quiet as he tried to regain his control. "I... I understand, but..."
"You and your stupid morals. FINE... I'll help. But you owe me, got that?"
"Thank you, Demian..."
"Whatever. Just get me to a shadow."
Demare looked around for a moment, not noticing any dark spots at first. Glancing toward the floor, however, he noticed that the small phonebooth made a good enough shadow that he might be able to crawl through. Crouching down, he got onto his hands and knees as his bi-colored eyes peered at the darkness on the wall.
"Is this okay?"
"Should be. Now, place your hand on the wall and concentrate. Imagine your body merging with the darkness."
Now, if that didn't seem a little scary, he wasn't sure what did. Demare obeyed, lifting his bandaged hand and placing it gently on the shadow. Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate, hoping it would work. After a few moments, his hand began to fall right into the darkness, like the shadow were swallowing his flesh.
"Now, just crawl on through... Don't open your eyes, though. I wouldn't put it past you to be scared as all hell like the last time."
He twitched a little bit, scooting closer to the wall with his eyes squeezed shut, his small body disappearing into the small darkness.Listening by the tub, calling Levi's name, was beginning to seem pointless. Now that Demare had hung up, her worry was growing once more. Taking a few moments to wash some fruit, piling it high on a plate next to some cheese and crackers, Aki tried desperately to keep herself busy. 15 minutes might as well be forever! A tapping in the wall beside the fridge made the poor elf jump, a peach tumbling out of her hands and rolling under the table. "LEVI!?" Pressing her ear to the wall, Aki listened carefully. "Mmph?! Mmpbtmpmsmmm!!"Aki sighed, stepping back to peek under the table and find the peach. It was just Kaimana, still stuck in the pipes. One thing at a time, she reminded herself. It wasn't like the little hippocampus could drown! "Right here."
"Here?"
"Yes. It should take you close enough to her house, providing we understood her directions well enough."
"...How do you know?"
"Trust me, damn it!"
Clare did as he was told, crawling out from the shadows where Demian told him to. Just as the demon said, Demare had indeed gotten close enough to Aki's home, having crawled right into a rickety old tree house. That wasn't so bad... and right there was the turn he was supposed to take. After a moment of climbing out of the tree without getting stuck or scratched, the halfing child continued on his way though the light.
As Demare turned the corner on the hill and looked up, he froze in his tracks as his eyes grew wide in amazement. He could see the house where he stood at the bottom of the hill... Was that even a HOUSE?? It was like some sort of castle! It had to be! He'd never seen a home that huge! Now feeling a bit intimidated, he continued on his way up the road toward Aki's home. This would certainly be interesting. Finally reaching the door, he searched a moment for the doorbell, not wanting to barge in even though the woman had said the door would be unlocked.Setting a few glasses next to the plates of food, Aki took another glance out of the kitchen and through the windows of the front room. She'd peeked every thirty seconds or so, desperately hoping Demare would arrive soon. Her wish had been answered, it seemed! A familiar face peeked back at her from beside the door. "It's open, Demare!" Despite that fact, Aki hurried out of the kitchen towards the boy, pulling the door open wider. "Thank you SO much for coming, and so fast! I have some lunch if you're hungry, or...I could show you where I saw Levi last." Her own stomach grumbled, she hadn't eaten all day...but her worry for the little pirate came first. Demare smiled up at the guardian as she came to the door, holding his hands behind his back for the moment. "Perhaps it would be best to eat after finding Levi. I'm sure he'll be hungry as well," he said, his wings shifting a little bit. "Where did you seem him last?"Aki couldn't help but smile. Even though she was still in her jammies and hadn't brushed her hair, Demare was still as polite as could be! Motioning for him to follow, Aki made her way through the living room. "Forgive the mess, we're not fully moved in yet. Levi keeps taking anything smaller than him and hiding it when I'm not looking. It's like living with a ferret!!" Trying to sound light hearted as she opened the door to the room she shared with Levi, Aki felt her stomach sink at the light of his little treasure chest. Oh, she hoped he was okay!! Making her way into the bathroom, Aki sighed in worry. "He was in here last, I didn't think there was anyway for him to sneak out!" Dropping down to one knee, Aki peered almost upside down under the claw footed tub. "But...it looks like he found a way." She could only hope Demare assumed she was actually too big to fit. Having to admit to the brave boy that she was terrified of going down there was out of the question. Demare crouched down on the floor and peered underneath the tub the best he could, already noticing the small hole underneath. Levi was under there...? Looking up at Aki for a moment, then back to the small crawlspace, he decided that one thing was certain; she didn't want to go down there herself for one reason or another. Laying down on his stomach, the child continued to inspect the space between the floor and the tub. She had to have considered at least moving it... Was it not movable?
"Well... I think I might be able to get under there, but I'm curious. Is there any way to lift the tub up a little bit? To give a little more room between the floor and the bottom of the tub? I want to try to look in that hole before deciding if we even need to go inside," he explained, his wings falling flat against his shoulders. If he could drop a light in there, they might be able to see just how deep the hole was, and if there was anything down in there.Shaking her head slowly, Aki kept her arms crossed tightly across her chest. Just thinking about sliding down that hole below the tub was enough to give her shivers. "I...can't move it. It's too heavy. That or it's secured somehow...I'm not really sure. But if you'd like, I can go get a candle!" Chewing her lip apologetically, Aki offered the boy a shrug. "We haven't unpacked all the way, so..." Ducking out of the bathroom to rummage through the drawer of her nightstand, Aki drifted back in slowly with a little lit candle. Kneeling by the tub, lowering her shaking hand slowly, Aki swallowed and peered underneath the tub. "It's only a few feet down! Five feet, maybe? It's so dusty down there, I'm sorry Demare! Looks like there would almost be enough room for you to stand upright. How odd! It's like...a crawl space, or tiny cellar!" Motioning Demare down to take a look, Aki winced as a trickle of wax plunged away from the candle and solidified silently on the pebbled floor below. "What's that?!" Pointing to a smudge at the edge of the light radius, far below, Aki's eyes went wide at a pair of smudges. "Is it...a handprint?!" Demare narrowed his eyes, squinting as he tried to see. Ugh, it was still too dark... Too many shadows. Clenching a fist tight, he reached over and held his hand over the hole, slowly opening it to let a small bright orb fall inside. It make no sound as it hit the pebbled bottom, but the tiny object lit up the area enough to see, the shadows disappearing. There... NOW he could see. Looking to where Aki was indicating, he did indeed notice the finger smudges. So Levi crawled down there somewhere...
"I'm going down, if that's all right, ma'am," he informed her, crawling a little closer toward the hole. "I get the feeling that if he was down there, he certainly isn't now. It's a little too quiet for my taste..." Nodding despite the tense feeling in her stomach, Aki held the boys hands...lowering him down carefully towards the floor after he slid below the tub. The light danced along the undersides of dusty pipes, glimmering on an odd shape further down the little hall. Demare's light reflected upon the scale pattern of Levi's waterproof Sylph plushie, bringing a soft blue glow to the dim crawlspace. It was perched carefully upon a crusted copper pipe, the stuffed ear fins almost brushing the low ceiling. Wispy spider webs hung tattered and disturbed, drifting lazily as the air stirred. They clung carefully to the thin copper pipes running along the 'ceiling' overhead...fluttering like sad banners. In the dust and minute debris upon the floor, tiny footsteps smudged further into the dark...disappearing around a sharp corner to the left. "Demare?! Are you okay?" Kneeling nervously beside the old tub, Aki grasped the rim with both hands...calling down to the child vanished below the basin. Suddenly, this all seemed like a very bad idea. What if Demare was hurt as well?! Takinga breath, she calmed and awaited his reponse. She had faith the older Legend. He had been entrusted with Manior, hadn't he? That was a sure sign of his ability! "Do you see anything?!" With space to move now, the child's wings fluttered and stretched as he dropped into the cellar, his white eye nervously taking in the creepy surroundings. Ugh... spider webs... Good thing there wasn't anything in them right now. Pulling the long part of his hair behind his ear, the halfling child peered cautiously about, not hearing much aside from a droplet of water coming from a pipe nearby. The ground here was amazingly dry... As if this place were here for a reason. An emergancy escape route, perhaps? Or was it just a place to hide?
Peering up toward the hole he'd come out of, Demare called back to the woman. "I'm fine, don't worry about me!" he said maybe a little too cheerily. Looking around once more, he noticed the footprints the led around the corner. "I don't see anything yet... but he left tracks! I'll follow the prints to see where it takes me!"
Without waiting for an answer, the small child crouched down and took up the orb of light he'd created, and carefully made his way around the corner to see where the footsteps would lead him to. The pipes bent to round the corner as well, the light reflecting from a wet section of the mildew covered wall. The little foot prints continued down the dark tunnel, zig zagging first towards a scattering of pebbles, then off again towards a motionless dark lump. The footprints milled near the dead rat before leading down the little crawlspace once more. Along with the drip of water, something else echoed quietly below the floor of Aki's house. A steady, gentle snoring...drifting from a smallish hole in the tunnel wall. Aki listened carefully, still peering down the hole as Demare called back to her. "Be careful!" She called back, but she had no way of knowing just how far the lad had walked. Could he hear her? Was he still okay? Demare stood still for a moment as a chill shot up his spine, feeling a little cold down in the cellar. This should have been expected, right? He WAS underground after all. As the soft noise began to fill his ears, he glaced over his shoulder while Aki called something out. He couldn't really hear it, having continued to walk through the strange hall, and even the drip of water was beginning to fade out. Nonetheless, the child kept following the footprints, nearly jumping at the sight of the dead rat. Goodness... The poor creature.
Nearing a smaller crawlspace, the Legend crouched down carefully to see if the light would show him a little more. The sound had gotten a little louder, and it reminded him of the sound Manior made when he was sleeping. There, slowly illuminated as Demare peered in, was Levi's sleeping form. The hole led into one of the walls of the house...started by a spot of rot and made bigger by little pirate hands. Grumbling at the sudden flood of light, Levi blinked and yawned as he pushed himself up with one arm...covering his mouth with his other dirty fist. His smudged cheek was lined with bars of light...not from Demare, but from the vent Levi had fallen asleep next to! Warm golden light from the inside of Aki's house slipped in through the floor level slats...the legs of a red table visible in the room beyond. "Dema? Eh!" The boy waved as he pushed himself the rest of the way up...the little fish on his jammies barely visible through the dirt. "Eh!" The boy repeated his greeting, still waving one little hand. What a surprise! His friend was here!! Levi took a step back, making room for Demare to squeeze in as well. There wasn't much room between the supporting studs and timbers, so Levi made sure to scoot his collection of dusty treasures that he had found back a little too. He wouldn't want Demare to break his new things! Demare blinked a few times, a little surprised to find the boy merely sleeping. He wasn't in danger or anything... In fact, he was being as innocent as ever, it seemed. Smiling with relief, the child carefully sat on the dirty floor, right next to the little crawlspace. What were those things Levi was hording away...? Suddenly, it started to make sense to him.
The dark clothing, the love for water, the adoration of girls... even the little things the boy "collected."
"You're a little pirate, aren't you?" he asked curiously, lifting a hand to gently pat Levi's dirty head. "Did you come here to stow away your findings, or were you just hoping to give your guardian the slip?"Levi nodded happily, grinning fox eyed as Demare ruffled his hair. He wasn't sure what the boy had said exactly, but it sounded fine to him! One word he knew, at the very least. "Pywits!"Well, if Demare was content to stay and chat, perhaps this would be a good time for him to show off his new treasures! He'd found them all piled right on the other side of the vent, here inside the wall! Lifting the first, an old book, Levi blew the dust off the top....chuckling as it poofed up towards Demare's face. "Ah dis...."Setting it back down with a thump, very near the dirt free rectangle on the floor where he'd originally found it, Levi grabbed the next dusty goody. "Ah dis!" Pushing a magazine forward, creasing and crumbling the cobweb smeared pages, Levi chuckled also at the torn cover...a picture of a redhead in surprisingly modest lingerie. The third item was by far his favorite though, and that fact showed clearly upon the young pirates face as he held a dust covered bottle up for Demare's inspection. "Ah DIS! Heh!" It was unlabeled, dark reddish amber liquid sloshing in the half full decanter. The thick glass was topped with a glass stopper...one Levi tugged at, but couldn't quite pull free. Vexed, he offered it to Demare. Surely the older boy was stronger! "Ahpin?" Demare did his best not to breath in the dust, thankful that his scarf covered his mouth mostly. Waving the dust away, he was more curious about the book the boy plopped back down than the magazine that was shoved toward him. He squinted a little bit at the cover, not quite understanding what was really so special about a woman in a rather short looking dress. ...A dress... made of sheer material... Maybe he'd ask Neko about it later, since she was supposed to be a girl.
His attention was then drawn to the bottle being held toward him. His bi-colored eyes blinked a few times, curious as to what was inside it. The bottle itself was kind of pretty, save for the fact that it was dirty, but was intrigued him the most was the glass stopped. Goodness, it was beautiful... And the light made it shine just right. Looking to Levi for a moment, he carefully wrapped his fingers around the stopper and pulled on it. ...Hm, it was a little stuck. Getting a better grip on the bottle and stopper, he began to pull again, a little harder this time.
"Nnnggggh...." He could feel it slipping. "Come on..." POP! The stopper came loose, and Demare nearly dropped the bottle, but luckily he managed to get a hold of it in time.Tumbling back to land on his bottom with an oomp as the stopper popped out, Levi struggled around until he was kneeling comfortably. Wow, Demare had done it! "Ah yah!!" Leaning forward to peer at the glinting glass stopper, the boy's attention was diverted back to the bottle. What was in it?! Apple juice? Tea?! Sniffing with interest at the opening, Levi wrinkled his nose at the sharp smell...but his smile never faded. This was a great find! Kicking the book with his foot as he crawled closer, Levi accidently flipped the cover open. Pages flipped slowly as the book settled once more...page after page of hand written and hand dated entries. The young pirate glanced back at the journal curiously as he heard the pages slap and flutter back into place...reaching out to pluck at a corner sticking out from between pages. "Ooooh, fitsher!" Levi's azure eyes went wide at the over exposed photograph...a picture of a young woman's freckled face, tilted back to peer up at the camera with a dazzling smile. He laughed in delight as he recognized the ocean beyond the cliff she sat on...this was behind his house! Waving it at Demare, still laughing, Levi crooned happily. "Ah gull!! Pwee gull!"** It was so quiet. Aki couldn't hear much more than the pounding of her own heart. Was Demare okay?! Had he found Levi?! Pushing herself further under the tub, shaking hand grasping the nearsest claw foot, she called down into the darkness. "Demare?! Levi!!" As Levi looked over the pages of the journal, Demare took the liberty of sniffing at the opening of the bottle himself. Ugh! That smelled awful! ...And it made him a little light headed. Shaking his head a little bit, Demare placed the stopper loosly on the bottle as he glanced toward the other boy, wondering what he was calling pretty. He shifted a little bit, pulling the long part of his hair back behind his ear as he looked down at the picture, not recognizing who it was. Did the journal belong to that person? If so, why was it here?? Did she lose it?
His thoughts were interrupted by Aki's audible cry, quickly looking over his shoulder. Oh dear... he'd almost forgotten the reason for coming down here. Looking to Levi again, he smiled a little bit.
"Would it be okay for me to tell Aki where you are? Or do you want to keep this place secret?" he asked, carefully setting the bottle off to the side as he stood up from the ground. For a long moment, Levi ignored both Aki's call and Demare's question...once again staring at the bright face of the girl in the picture. A captured moment of windblown hair, scudding clouds and white capped waves. Distant nostalgia seemed to swell within him, fading as he glanced up from the picture. "Huh? Oh...hmmm." He knew the word secret...that's what Aki called it when he hid his favorite coin! He wanted to hide this stuff too...she had a nasty habit of 'putting things away.' That usually meant well out of his reach. Getting to his feet, Levi pushed all the dusty objects towards the wall with his foot. "Ah goh. Ah-wha?"By some luck, the corner of the book scraped against the wall vent as Levi pushed it to the side...lifting the vent outward like a doggie door. It opened!! "Ohohoho!" Gasping in delight, Levi squatted...pulling the book away from the vent and giggling as the slats fell back into place. Perfect! Pushing back to his feet, Levi offered Demare one grubby hand to hold. His grin still covered his face...what an exciting day this had been! "Yah! Ah goh!"Demare chuckled a little bit as Levi explored the vent, still a little curious about the journal. Perhaps one day he'd see about visiting, and possibly investigate the book. Gently taking Levi's hand, he held the light out to illuminate the way back toward the hole they'd come from. Hmmm... It would be easy to get out, wouldn't it?Aki waited in tense silence when no call answered her own. She had to go down...there was no way she could leave them both in danger. Swallowing, Aki began to pull herself forward, headfirst into the darkness. There was no way she was sticking her bare feet in there first! A sudden glow snapped her eyes back open. Silhouettes approached as she pushed her upper body back up, heart pounding. It was...Demare! With Levi holding his hand, ambling along beside him! "Oh, you FOUND him! Demare, THANK you!! Let me help you out of there!" Her top was still mostly over the opening above the boys heads. Bracing against the tub with one shoulder, she lowered her hand down. Thank Elunae they were okay! Demare smiled, tossing the small orb into the air to let it float for a moment as he crouched down to gather up Levi in his arms. Standing underneath the opening of the hole, the child reached the baby upward to his guardian.
"He's okay, ma'am," he assured her with a smile. "Levi was just taking a nap." Pulling Levi through and hugging the filthy boy, Aki sighed in relief. It was taking everything she had not to cry. Giving him a quick pat over, making sure he actually was unharmed, Aki plopped the boy into the empty tub. "Stay there for a moment, sweetie! Let me help Demare out!" Aki did just that, offering the older child a hand as well. Once both boys were out, Aki sat heavily on the closed lid of the toilet...trembling in sheer relief. "Levi, I don't know how you got down there, but it won't happen again! We're using the other bathroom until I get that hole sealed." Pushing to her feet, Aki turned on the sink...leaving the warm water to run so the boys could wash their hands. Wetting a rag, she scrubbed at Levi's face while the child rubbed soap between his palms. "Ow! Nuff!"Aki sighed and kept scrubbing. The lad acted like nothing had happened! "Demare, once you're clean, how about that lunch? I really can't thank you enough..." Offering the boy a grateful smile as she wiped the last of the grime from Levi's face, Aki dried her hands on a new towel and offered it to the boys. She was so lucky Demare had been at the headquarters! What an outstanding young man! The Legend proceeded to wash his hands while Aki scrubbed at Levi's face, his fingers working off the bit of dirt that was on his bandages. Once they were finished, he twisted the knob on the sink to turn off the water, taking the offered towel to dry his hands.
"Sure! I think I still have some time," he said with a smile, glacing toward the window to see outside. The poor elf had relaxed quite a bit as she sat at the sunny kitchen table. Levi was ravenous, leaving the conversation to Demare and Aki as he wolfed down a few chewy biscuits. Finishing her own plate, Aki pushed it back a tad and nodded at Demare...listening to the end of his tale. "So, sleeping in a crawlspace, huh? Well, I hope it was worth it, Levi. You're still covered in cobwebs!" Leaning across the table to pick a chunky bundle of web from the boy's curly hair, Aki sighed as Levi grunted and scooted out of her reach. "Well, at the very least you should thank Demare for his help!" Levi thought about this for a moment, finishing the bite he was currently working on before nodding. "Hanku, Dema!" Sharing a secret smile with the other Legend, blue eyes glittering as they slanted happily, Levi ripped another chunk from his bread roll. "That's a sweet boy! Thank you from me as well, Demare. You're welcome here any time...I'd like to have you and your family over sometime soon for dinner! Will you tell Neko for me? Oh, and I would be happy to give you a ride home, of course!" Demare's black eye seemed to wink slightly, as if keeping it secret that he knew anything else. "You're welcome, Levi, ma'am," he smiled, bowing his head a little bit. "And I'll be sure to tell Neko. She should be delighted, especially if it means she gets to get out of the house."
Pushing his chair back a little bit, the child stood from the table, rubbing a couple of crumbs off of his scarf. "I can get home myself, it's okay. There's something I need to do before getting home, anyway."Levi hopped to his feet as Demare stood, still clutching his biscuit in one hand. "Aww, bah! Ahna tiepoos??"Aki giggled, Holding Levi back by one shoulder as he tried to follow the older Legend out the front door. "Not now, Levi! Demare might come back someday to visit the tidepools, though! We hope you do, at least!" Waving goodbye as the young man took his leave, Aki called out to him once more before pulling Levi inside and shutting the door. "Goodbye! Thank you again, and be safe Demare!!" Taking a breath, back pressed against the door, Aki shook her head and stared down at Levi with half a smile. He was back, neither of the children had been hurt. What a stressful, yet lucky day!! Levi met her gaze, still happily chewing upon the remains of his roll. Turning to peer across the hall, into the open bedroom and at the bathroom door, Levi waved his biscuit and talked through a muffled full mouth. "Bafoom?""Nice try, kid. Nice try."

(April 4, 2005)Neko grumbled a little bit as he shuffled through the rubble that was the upstairs, more and more relief washing over him as he continued to find no one hurt from the accident. The house happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and was a partial victim to the falling skyscraper only a few days ago. Miraculously, only the top portion of the house had gotten destroyed by falling debris, and even more mysteriously everyone had happened to be downstairs when it happened. He was suddenly glad he'd moved the pixas into their own tiny room last week. Upon reaching the boys' room, he sighed heavily as his green eyes shifted through the wreckage. Unfortunately, this room had gotten the worst of the "attack", and it was impossible to rebuild. It also seemed impossible to save anything from within... However, something was there, and he could feel it. Even if he didn't have any magic right now, he could still feel the presence of a living creature in the rubble. It didn't take long for him to realize what it was as a small white sprocket nervously floated into view. Wasn't that...? "Oh my God..." Neko whispered, his eyes growing a little wide. He's forgotten all about them with the baby. "Faith! Oh... oh my.... DAMN IT!" If he'd forgotten about them, then he was sure Demare had done the same. "Faith! Where's Micheal??" Another sprocket floated out from the rubble, this time black with a starry-like golden design on its surface. It was further into the room, around the place where the dresser used to be. Neko could hear an annoying high-pitched squeal before he noticed the sonic sprocket hovering close by. They were all... The man looked around for a moment, using his gloved hands to test if things were stable enough for him to step on. This was going to be difficult, he knew, but it had to be done. Carefully and slowly, Neko began to step and crawl through the ruins, more and more sprockets floating into view. If Micheal was hurt or destroyed... Oh Gods. He didn't want to think about that. It had taken a bit of time to get to his destination, but when he finally made it, he uncovered a buried Zee as he stopped onto slightly solid flooring. The storm sprocket didn't wait any time in zipping right up to a fallen beam, smacking hard against it as it seemed to try to move the heavy wood. 48 other sprockets began to do the same thing, a couple of them sticking into the beam for a moment due to their sharp prongs getting stuck. Neko could only watch as this took place, finding it extraordinary that they would do such a thing. After all, with his own stupidity of neglecting the poor dears, Micheal had been the only one to understand them all. "Listen... There's not a thing I can say to make it up to you guys, much less is there any words that can be used to express how sorry I am," he said quietly, watching as one by one the sprockets stopped their actions, "but... I hope one day you'll all be able to forgive me." Did they even understand him...? Probably not, but he gave them the benefit of the doubt as the horde of gears twisted and turned in the air, moving themselves to float behind him. Neko knelt down the best he could, carefully wrapped his arms around the large broken beam, and began to lift. Something squirmed and moved across the dusty floor, freeing themselves from the trap as the man heaved the wood forward enough to be out of the way. The forge sprocket seemed to go to work immediately as Neko looked down at a crippled Micheal, the dream sprocket attached firmly to the fandangle's center. Its gemmed orbs slowly blinked and flickered a soft glow, the two gears twisting once along the floor as it slowly hovered itself upward. "And I hope... you'll also be able to forgive us someday, Micheal," Neko said, reaching out and carefully taking the mechanical creature into his dirty hands. "Let's... go have a talk with that boy, as soon as I fix you up a bit." Micheal didn't say anything. The little gems orbited around him, however, as if acting like a protective barrier between itself and reality. Perhaps having held onto Hope, Faith, and Dream was a good thing while Zee was trapped. It took a little more energy from the dream sprocket before silently sending it away, allowing Forge to continue its work. --------------------Oiled? Check. Serviced? Check. Cleaned? Check. Buffed? Check. ...What else was there for him to do? Micheal still had a few dings and tiny dents due to the debris and neglect, but it certainly looked a lot better than when he found him. Zee was even around, and giving the mechanical creature as much energy as possible. Storms were hard to come by after all, otherwise Neko would have kept it outside for a while. One thing was different, however; Micheal wouldn't talk. It wouldn't even talk to Zee, and the two of them used to be inseparable. Faith, Hope, and Dream continued to stay by, hoping to influence the other into returning to normal. One day, perhaps... but for now, they'd do their best to be its friend. Only one thing was left to do, Neko decided, sighing lightly as his green eyes narrowed. How to handle this, was the question. "DEMARE!!" he called loudly, crossing his arms across his bare chest. The cry was met with silence, one of the celestrus looking up from his perch on a nearby chair, his sleep having been interrupted. "Demare, get in here. NOW!" Micheal twisted and turned in the air, its red and green gems flickering a little bit at the name. It remembered that name... A few moments passed before a small child stepped out from the guest room, mumbling something inaudible under his breath as he made his way into the kitchen. His bi-colored eyes glared up at his guardian, his bandaged hands tightened into little fists as he was about to demand the reason for being called. It didn't take him long to realize why, however, as Demare's gaze fell upon the weakened fandangle, his eyes growing wide. Oh, s**t... "Take a seat," Neko ordered, using his foot to slide out a chair next to him as he turned in his own. "Let's... talk." It was the glare again. That look that could kill. Granted, had Neko been in demon form like usual, it would have had an even worse effect. Demare did as he was told, mentally cursing himself as he decided not to mess with his guardian today. He hated that look... That glare of annoyance. Demian hated taking orders, but even he wouldn't test Neko's patience when she was angry. Micheal shifted a little bit, moving to float closer to the small group of sprockets now behind the man. The boy was different. Demare was no longer the small baby it remembered, but a larger boy that looked rather scary. This wouldn't be an easy task to follow him around again... "So, tell me," Neko started, carefully taking Micheal's controller up into his hands, "didn't I tell you it was your job to take care of him?" "You can't force me t--" Demare started to argue, but was interrupted as Neko shoved the cog's controller into his hands and stood up abruptly. "I gave him to you, he chose you, end of story!" he screamed, looming over the boy. "God damn it, don't you understand?! He's ALIVE, Demare! You can't just ignore him and expect everything to be okay! What if he died?" The child was quiet for a moment, his eyes now narrow slits as he glared at the object in his hands. Damn her.... Damn her to HELL! How DARE she treat him like he was stupid. "You're going to take care of him, Demare, whether you like it or not," Neko said, his voice still stern by much quieter. "It'll teach you some responsibility, and maybe some respect for those around you." If he'd said anything else, Demare didn't hear it. Demian had let the hatred consume him as Neko stepped away, his wings stiffening behind him as he did his best not to just break the controller in his hands. "I hate you..." he hissed under his breath, but was surprised as his voice was accompanied by another. His eyes turned up to see Micheal, the cog now hovering in front of the child. Did it just talk? "What did you say?!" Demare demanded. He dare it say such a thing to him! "I hate. You. In terms. You understand. I do. Not like. You anymore." the mechanical voice came, the little gems flashing as the cog spoke. "I'll break you in t--" Demare's bi-colored eyes seem to grow even blanker as his body fell limp, and the child fell face first out of the chair. Micheal simply watched, hovering downward to take a closer look at the boy. Was he dead? " WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!" Demian demanded to know, the demonic soul turning toward his better half. " Put me back!" " I'm afraid I can't do that," Clare explained, the angelic soul fading from view. " You're endangering a life, so it was necessary for me to take over." " You ignorant FOOL! You can't do this to me!" " We'll talk later, Demian. I need to make amends with our friend... It was mostly because of your negligence that got us into this mess." " Do you honestly think I care?" " No... However, that's why I'm stepping in." Demare's fingers twitched a little bit, life seeming to flow back into his body. The bi-colored fandangle floated off to the side as the boy struggled to sit up, his left hand carefully holding the controller while his right reached up to use the table to pull himself up. His breaths were hard and shallow while his heart pounded in his chest, Clare doing his best to get the body to function correctly. "You are. Different from. Before." Micheal stated, noticing the great difference there was between the baby he knew and the child in front of it. "What happened?" The boy coughed, deciding the floor was a good place to sit for right now, his right hand rubbing his eyes a little bit. He never was able to explain what the situation was with the body, but now seemed like a good time to do so. "L-let's just say... I have a bit of a split personality," he said with a weak smile. "I... I want you to promise me something, especially if you can actually tell how much of a difference there is between me and my other self." Micheal didn't quite understand. Wasn't it supposed to be the complicated one, not the child? "Promise?" it inquired. "Yes... If you can tell who we are, then please... for your sake, when you see Demian, try to stay away from him?" he requested, his wings fidgeting a little bit. "I fear for your life if you're around him, so I think it would be best if you occupied yourself with other things while he's about." Demian? What an odd name. Though, how would it know who was who, if Demare wasn't talking? ...How did it know it could trust this one more than the other? "I shall. Try. How will. I know. Who is. Who?" Micheal got out, its gears circling around once as it seemed to process the new information. Zee, Hope, Faith, and Dream all began to orbit the cog as they started to feel safe around the child. Demare thought about this for a moment, tapping a finger against his lips while he considered the options. It really wasn't all the easy to tell, he realized, especially when Demian was in one of his moods and didn't scream or yell like usual. He was normally quiet himself, so that wasn't the best observation to go by. He had an idea, however, his eyes brightening a little. "It's okay if you call me Clare," he decided, a little happy to get to use his own name for once. "My other side doesn't like that, so you'll know who I am right away if you try to call me by name!" What an even odder name. It was so girly! Then again, the personality if this Demare did seem a little girlish... Nonetheless, it decided to agree this one time. "Clare," Micheal said clearly. "I will. Try to. Remember."

Demare April 10. Sunday Night, after dinner. Micheal has been cleaned and taken care of, and now he's charging himself with Zee. It's very hard lately. Things are growing to be more and more difficult, and there are times I just want to scream it out. This secret is killing me on the inside, and it hurts that I can't tell mama. She isn't your mama. Of course she is. She took us in remShe's not even a woman right now, you moron. Demian, it would be nice if you waited for me to write a sentence. It's really hard to write when you take over the arm like that. You're such an idiot! ...Anyway, I really want to tell her. I want to tell SOMEBODY. At this point, anybody... Demian slipped up a little bit and told Chandra the partial truth, but I feel that someone needs to know the whole truth. I told you, no one's allowed to know, Clare. We can't trust them! Why not? I really don't understand why we can't say anything, Demian. It doesn't make any sense. That's because you still don't remember all of your childhood. Once you remember everything, you'll understand why. Why can't you tell me everything? You did say, after all, that you were cursed to remember our past. ...I can't. Why not...? I just CAN'T! Don't you understand?! If I told you everything before you remember it all, it'll ruin everything! It won't be the same! You mean, it won't mean the same... Huh? No, you dufus. It won't BE the same. It's one thing to be told something, but it's another to remember it yourself. Demian, I realize that you don't trust many people, bIf you realize it, then quit rambling about it! You know I can't do that. Sure you can. It's called SHUSHING YOUR MOUTH. I'm not speaking right now, though. YOU'RE HOPELESS! But I never said I didn't have hope. ...I give up. As I was saying. I really want to tell mama about it, but Demian won't let me. I feel that she has every right to know, since she's taking care of us and all. I mean, she will find out eventually, right? I really want to tell Karan, too, but... No, Clare. What? You can't EVER tell him. ...But, Demian... you said yourself that when we got older, we could tell him! Why do you think telling him will accomplish? He's a freaking baby! He wouldn't understand! Then... we can tell him when it grows up a little, right? NO! Demian... If we tell him... Clare, have you not thought about what might happen if we told people about us? Sure, they can tell that we're different. They can see that we aren't... whole... But if they knew we were two different people... We'll never know until we tell someone, will we? No. We can't tell them. What if they end up hating us? What if they abandon us, just like that time? That time...? Remember? There was that kid we helped, right before we were attacked that day. I do remember a child... He was really nice. Do you remember what happened to him? I remember the three of us played together for a long while. ...He ratted on us, Clare. What? He's the reason we're here right now. He's the reason we ended up like this. I don't see how he could have been the cause of us being born in the same body. ...He told those villagers. He was part of the cause of our deaths. ... He... He was...? Demian? Demian, please don't ignore me now. ... I... I guess I'll wait a little longer...

Cross posted from Fandangle journal.(Compilation was edited to contain only legitimate parts.)Experience and Failure Severus walked into the main lobby and sat in a corner near the back. He was in his usual custom black robes and braided belt, but wore an unusual glove on his left hand. The glove was an array of vibrant colors, and speckled with jewels of various sizes and hues. It was a wonder he could move his arm at all, given the look of sheer mass and weight. He muttered under his breath, and the glove transformed into five ornate rings. Each ring looked like it was taken from a metal gauntlet, and covered the finger completely. He flexed his hand, and hoped the party would be underway soon. Perhaps he would be fortunate, and Morningstar would attempt to crash the event. Zero was actually quite unaware that there was a party - she had not been to the forge lately. Instead, what initially brought her in was to check on Wren's evolution. So the two came inside, and found the forge... oddly quiet, given the day and time. Hum. She noticed Severus, but remembering how the man was, deciding to start a conversation might now have been a good idea, so she instead began to read one of the pamphlets there, Wren hoveing beside her shoulder as she did so. Two heads phased in through one of the many MMH doors, looked around, and then phased back out again. After a moment or two, Moorgahaine phased through the door completely, with Herald following behind. With a wave of his hands, the main lobby transformed into a proper party setting- complete with a buffet table, punch bowls, and party favors designed to make the rudest (and most amusing) sounds possible. An inflatible white sheep filled with helium drifted along the ceiling, wearing a rather fetching pair of blue fishnet stockings and white garters. Herald walked beside his father, beaming with pride. After the party, he would share the Dream Experiment discoveries and collection. What better gift could there be? ...And the sudden transformation of the room almost sent Zero flying and clinging to the celling. Shouldn't she be... used to it by now ? Wren gave out a quite audible giggle, which earned her a glare. Now what was going on ? ...And, no, wait, was that Herald ? Who put miracle grow in that boy's milk ?!? "...Hum." She managed to calm down a little. He sneered at the garish decorations and floating sheep, "Some things never change." Upon noting Zero's presence, Severus pulled out his wand and gave it a sharp flick in the direction of the FSP. A controller floated out of the chute, and hovered over to her. He placed the wand back in his robes and sighed, "Grab a time sprocket from the shelf over there and place your fandangle in the controller. Give it a few minutes, then let it out. There will be a bright flash of light, and then you will see your companion's new form." Ahhh, well, she had gotten her answer. "Thank you." She gave a slight bow, and did as she was told, moving away from the counter to sit instead. "Ready ?" "Yes." Wren answered, and went to the controller, and Zero waited... Trough the overhelming noises. >_x What there a party or something ?!? After a few moments and a bright flash of light, Wren's new form could be seen. Zero managed not to jump back. After all, she's been warned about that. But it didn't mean that she didn't STARE. "Whoah." And Wren seemed likewise surprised. But hey, she had HANDS now ! Severus would never admit it, but he quite liked this Fandangle's new design. It looked like a giant house elf mated with a cybernetic ogre, which was a mental image he really could have done without. Snape simply nodded to Wren and Zero, and then went back to waiting. The waiting was agonizing. Surely it wouldn't be much longer now, would it? Severus drummed his hand along the counter, counting each second as it passed. And so many people, surely Morningstar would use such a thing to his advantage. Well, there was no use worrying about it now... a party like this was his only shot at drawing the b*****d out. Ravija approached Snape cautiously. "How are you?" she asked pleasantly, attempting to reel extra information out of it without violating the ban on Seven chatter. Demare peered in through the door the wolf-like creature had just gone through, his bi-colored eyes warily looking around the strange building he'd approched. This was the place, wasn't it? This was where Neko had gotten Micheal? Clare's curiosity had gotten the better of him and decided today would be a good day to venture here while Demian was still asleep.Micheal wasted no time in slipping past the little legend, its red and green gems circling around its gears as the cog took in its surroundings. It had been far too long since they visited. Things felt different... "M-Micheal... please stay close to me," Demare told his companion quietly, slipping into the room himself but staying by the door just in case.Sitting on a desk in the third office was a small, unimpressive device, It had a tiny gauge on the side that had slowly been going down since the Seven were summoned. As the moments ticked by, the gauge finally reached "0". Somewhere deep within the shop, the tolling of a bell could be heard. Severus got up and whispered to Ravija, "Whatever happens, you and your mother have been a priceless asset to this shop. No magic will work within these walls now, so don't bother trying. And... be careful." He walked over to Moorgahaine and placed the ringed hand through the part of the old wizard's body where both halves joined. A flash of sparks ripped through the form, "I'm afraid I'll be keeping this shop just a bit longer than expected, old friend. If you pass by Heaven on the way, do let Metatron I appreciated the timely assist. You have a few moments to make a witty remark, if you wish." A field of energy enveloped Snape and Moorgahaine, completely resistant to any form of breach or attack. Demare's ears began to ring slightly, the toll of a bell reaching them. What was that...? There didn't seem to be any sort of bells around, but then again, he was only seeing a small part of the shop. Reaching out, he carefully took Micheal into his hands and held the cog close, a bad feeling forming in the pit of his stomach.
He watched as the man in dark clothing moved toward a spirit of some kind, not quite understanding as the two of them appeared to be in a strange field. Did this sort of thing always happen in here...?Ravija's mouth dropped open, and she composed herself. She didn't know what was going on, could never figure it out. Sides and tricks and secrets... well, at least he complimented her and her family. Shaking her head, she walked over to her mother, who was more in a state of shock than she was. "What are you--" she spluttered, before Ravija put a hand on her shoulder, and shook her head with more finality. "Ravi, what's going on!" "I don't know, but there's a magic nuller somewhere, and you couldn't do anything regardless of it," she said matter-of-factly. Masque frowned and rolled her eyes at her daughter. "Thanks for reminding me." But she turned her attention to the scene as it unfolded. Can't have a gathering without something strange happening, she reflected. Especially here. The two forms looked understandably surprised as they began to peel away from one another, bits of energy and tissue falling to the floor, "You realize this revokes your pension,/ don't you? And you're definitely not getting the anniversary watch/ when your tenth year comes up." As the bits peeled away, a new form could be seen beneath. Tall, elegant, and comprised completed of the brightest, most pure light imaginable. Morningstar smiled at the young wizard, "Dear boy, leave it to you. Never did have any faith, did you? No, you have to question everything. Not that it matters now." He tore Severus' hand out of its socket with a quick, graceful motion, "Your little trinket did not destroy me, as you hoped. But, it was a valiant effort." Morningstar leaned close and yanked Snape's head back by the hair, whispering in his ear, "You should have joined me. What kind of a Slytherin are you anyhow, to not follow where power leads?" He looked around the room, and then back to the captured, bleeding wizard, "I think I'll kill you last, just so you can watch as the rest of reality dies. And then I'll remake you as my servant. You'll make a lovely servant, I'm sure of it.?" "Oh," Masque said with surprise. "Well, that explains it." Reflexive muscle action should slow down his bleeding, but she didn't know how much that would help. Ravija was completely surprised, but didn't let that stop her from running through possibilities. She made her way forward, peering at the force field. There was a kind of peace in knowing that running away wouldn't help in the least. Morningstar had "the thing," not that she knew how to use it. She was supposed to be the bond of Focus, Organization, and Protection, but she wasn't doing a good job of protection, that's for sure. Demare's right side flinched, his two red eyes opening slightly while his black one narrowed, the white eye widening with fright. What had just happened?? The bright light didn't seem to affect him much, but the fact that the man seemed to just disintegrate bothered him greatly. That, and the man in black appeared to be in trouble. Certainly this didn't happen every day...Micheal proceeded to hide itself within Demare's scarf, unable to convince itself anymore that things were all right. Something bad was happening, and it was obviously afraid. Ravija cautiously put her hands to the field, hoping that she could--somehow--get in, and... do what? Morningstar was obviously physically superior despite magic, if he was even affected by the nullification at all. Maybe she coudl at least help Snape somehow. If only she could get in. Severus snarled as his hand was torn from the wrist, and watched as the rings became Morningstar's possession. He listened to the entity drone on, and then laughed bitterly, "You talk to much. Those rings weren't the 'trinket'." He looked behind Morningstar and smiled vicously, "But that is." A form rose up from the floor and drifted into the energy field, twin forms of blue and red joined at the waist. In their hands was a large sword, created from Seven brave Fandangles. Eyes glowing with fury, lips pulled back into mirrored snarls- Moorgahaine struck down Morningstar in a single stroke, splitting him right down the middle. The master had returned. Severus looked over to Moorgahaine as Morningstar's form lost its light, "Welcome home, you right b*****d. Next time have your son watch after the damned shop." The energy field around them slowly dissovled, and Severus breathed the fresh air deeply. Ravija rushed in as the force field fell, balling up one drape with one hand. She quickly put that under Snape's arm and pressed the pressure point there against it, hoping to stop the bleeding a little more. She leaned backwards and grabbed Snape's hand. "Anyone with healing magic better than mine!" she called sharply. Silver, watching from the corner, walked over, pressing a bottle of wiskey into snaps free hand. "Well played. Here, have a drink on me. It'll help with the blood loss anyways." He chuckled, sitting back in the corner, raising his own bottle in toast. They nodded to Snape, "Thank you,/ we were wondering what/ our name was." They looked to one another, "The Divine Machine/ did not let us know. Perhaps/ it was not important/ at the time." The two seemed thoughtful, "But we/ are two. Not/one. What shall our second/ and third/ names be?" One reached out and batted the dangling star, "Perhaps you should be Spark." The other reached out and batted the dangling skull, "And you Reverie, dear brother." They nodded to one another, "And Moorgahaine,/ as we." "Right, I'll take care of it," Ravija said crisply. "Get me a Life sprocket or ten, someone!" She held the hand to the stump and began to focus on it, slowly knitting it back together, first the blood supply and then the nerves... she's never had to do trauma like this before. Snape sighed, allowed himself the indignity of being bandaged up, and drank deeply of the offered whiskey, "Oh for ******** sake, the git has amnesia." And trough Zero was still lost in confusionland, Wren regained her spirits quite quickly, heading for the tubes, taking one filled with life sprokets and handing it to Ravi. "Will this do, miss Ravi ?" "Thanks for your help, both of you," Ravija gritted, concentrating, though not taking the tube. "Let them out, I don't have a free hand. Okay you lot, help me with this. Make sure everything reconnects, no use Snape losing a finger to necrosis." Demare calmed a little at the new sight, pressing his back against the wall as his wings layed flat. This was a very strange place indeed... Neko had come here to get Micheal?? Maybe that was before any of this stuff started happening. Sighing lightly, Clare took note of the new... creature that took place of the light. Two beings connected... Two minds technically sharing one body? This was a much different case than his own, but it made him curious; was it possible to live in such a way?
"Hey, Micheal?" he piped up quietly to his companion. The cog peeked out from the scarf, its gems beginning to orbit again. "Is it. Over?" "...Yes, I think it's okay now," he said, deciding to ask his question later.----------Snape raised an eyebrow and snarled, "Can't we have a few moments peace before all hell breaks loose?!" He grabbed his wand (with his good hand), and began throwing every offensive shadow spell in his rather impressive arsenal, "Damned b*****d, he can't even die without being a pain in my arse!" Moorgahaine blinked in tandem, "Well now,/ there's a turn of events." He quickly made good use of the Seven sword, striking every light beast that dared to come within reach, "We suppose/ it would not be fun/ if it were over too quickly!" "You lied." Micheal said abruptly. "It is. Not done. Yet!" A spark of electricity jolted over the fandangle's gears. Demare blinked a few times, not understanding. Lied? What made Micheal think he'd just lied to him?
"Micheal, I'm telling you the truth. The bad stuff is o--"The cog quickly moved itself away from the boy, hovering slow enough in hopes that the child would follow. "Hey, wait a minute!" he cried out, reaching out for his friend. Kicking himself off away from the wall, a bright object slithered past as it missed its target. A cold chill ran up the child's spine as he stopped, his wings stiffening in fear."Clare, behind. You." the cog warned his bond, hovering close. It wasn't good enough to protect him. It wasn't good enough to... The large serpentine light-beast situated itself to strike again, but was instead met with black shadowy flames as Demare's right hand balled into a tight fist. The two red slitted eyes opened wider as the legend smirked, the demon within him awakening from his slumber.
"You've got some nerve to freeze up now, angel," the boy hissed. "What the hell is going on here?"Masque wasn't having a good go of it. Completely magicless, her job was running around, dodging the various small battles that had sprung up, and releasing any sprockets she thought would be helpful. She had freed a tube of Kinetic sprockets, and they'd helped her a bit with the running away. A few, though, had been blasting at the light monsters, accelerating them at inopportune times, and were causing a comedic series of errors as the monsters plunged themselves into and through walls, though, like most cartoon fights, it wasn't actually hurting them all that much. Still, it was better than nothing. She skidding to a stop, panting, near Ravija, Devi, and Moorgahaine--and, by extension, Snape. "How's it going here?" "Bad." Severus and Moorgahaine somehow ended up fighting back-to-back, and then slowly pushed into the depths of ME&F by the advancing hoards. Snape sneered, "If you came back just to die again, I will personally kill you." "Demian! I... I'm sorry, I c--" Clare tried to explain, but was silenced all too quickly.
"You IDIOT! You're letting light get the best of you? THAT'S YOUR POWER!" Demian screamed with annoyance. "If it didn't affect me at all, I'd just let the damn thing eat you alive!"
The serpentine light-beast hissed, attempting to dodge the shadowy flames, but was only being followed by them.
"But... but I didn't know it was there! T-they just appeared out of no where!"
"You're useless. I was ASLEEP and I could feel that!"
Clare didn't have an excuse for that one. "I thought it was over..."
Glaring over his right shoulder, Demare's black eye narrowed even further. Opening up his bandaged fist, the shadowy flame engulfed the odd creature, a horrifying hissing screech filling his ear as it burned. Oh, what beautiful music...Micheal could only watch, its gems orbiting even closer around its gears. This boy was scary when he was angry. So scary... but it wouldn't be afraid. No, it couldn't afford to be afraid. "Clare?" it piped up, hoping the angelic child would hear it. "I'll take care of this for now," Demare sighed angrily, turning his eyes toward the mechanic companion. "Just be the eyes behind me, got that?"The light monster that had attacked Sosiqui whirled again, trying to get in another shot - only to find someone in between it and its target. Riven rushed forward and slashed at it viciously with Aeintor, only to have the blade pass right through the creature. He wasn't sure if he was relieved the creatures weren't Chaos-born... or annoyed that some of his power was ineffective. Instead, he surged forward again and clonked the monster hard on the side of the head on the backswing. It fell backwards, shaking and growling, but very much still alive. "Summon until I can do something!" Sosiqui shrieked from behind. "Okay!" Riven yelled back, and let himself drift into the timeless place where he could touch home. The light monster's movements slowed to a crawl as he felt upwards. Come! Come...He grabbed, held, and pulled. In a flash of sparks and the afterimage of a strange rune, a trio of kyrei appeared in mid-air, their tails fanning as they quickly took in the scene around them. Riven struggled to maintain the link, and pointed Aeintor at the light monster. "GO!" As one, the three creatures swam forward through the air, long fingers reaching out, golden eyes glowing coldly. The light creature twitched and then stiffened as the kyrei fingers, dark with cold and shadow, pierced through and grabbed within, deep below the skin. It bulged in strange ways, and bent in stranger, to the tune of a series of odd cracks and bubbling sounds. Then, together, the kyrei drew back, pressed palms and fingers together, and bowed to the beast as it let out a long wail and collapsed in on itself, like a deflating balloon. The kyrei vanished in a faint spark-shower as Riven lost the link, and he had time to phase out to dodge another light-creature, then to knock it upside the head with Aeintor's shaft, before a gesture of movement from behind him caught his attention. "My turn," Sosiqui said, a swirl of Time sprockets orbiting her. Riven phased to dodge a light-creature that looked like nothing so much as a wolf with a snake tail, then bashed it on the back of the head. He looked around quickly for Biome. The twin gizmohs were swirling wildly all over the shop, a small cloud of helpful Shadow sprockets in their wake. They slashed at monsters with their long claws in passing, and when one bulging beast threatened to attack an ally from behind, they quickly coiled around it like twin boa constrictors and crushed it within their looping bodies. "We fight fight too!" they called out. One of them looped around and whacked the carpet off the floor, only to have the thing reach out with bizzarely long filaments and attempt to engulf a wailing, wounded light-monster. Demare reached to his side and slipped his dagger out from the bandages around his waist, his bi-colored eyes glaring around the room. Most of the others seemed to be holding their own, keeping back the beasts in some shape or form. Taking a few steps out, however, was perhaps his own mistake. The attack was swift, too quick for even Micheal to have noticed, as something sharp caught his left arm and tore a long, deep gash along his flesh. The force of the attack caused him to turn a little bit, and there was another attack from behind. More claws ripped across his right arm, forcing him to drop his dagger, and something grabbed a tight hold of the end of his scarf, yanking the child backwards."D-Demare?!" Micheal paniced, hovering close to its bond. A long tail merely flicked the cog hard into the wall, the prongs of the gears sticking into it. Curses!! How could this have happened?! And so soon into the battle. Was he really that pathetic? A cat-like roar interrupted his thoughts as three very large saber-toothed light-beasts prowled together toward the child. One of them had a piece of his black scarf snapped between its jaws, another with blood staining its pure and bright claws. They'd attacked him together...? ARRRRRRRGH!!! Damn that teamwork!!
Glancing toward his arms, Demare attempted to survey what the damage was. His left arm was hardly mobile, the bandages soaked in blood and the bone showing through in parts of the gash. s**t... Neko was going to have his head for this. His right arm wasn't nearly as bad, the cuts mostly just flesh wounds. So long as that was still movable, he'd be okay...
Carefully, the halfling legend sat up, doing his best to hide just how scared he was. His two red eyes opened fully to stare back at the three light-beasts, his smirk returning to his lips. There was a crazed expression on his face as he lifted his right arm in front of himself, his hand balling up into a fight fist once more. This had better work... he thought to himself, his little wings expanding as much as they could.
"Come and get me," he dared them. "One at a time!"The supposed leader of the "pack" of light-beasts snarled at the challenge and lunged toward the boy, sharp claws extended as it intended to attack. Before it could reach the child, however, Demare sunk down into the shadows behind his body that the light created, disappearing into the floor. The beast slid across the floor, puzzled, searching for its prey.
It was a good thing Demian's specialty was darkness. While the small pack sniffed and searched the ground for their target, the child took this opportunity to eliminate them one by one. A bandaged and bloody hand slowly crept out from the shadow on the wall next to Micheal, close enough to one of the beasts as it sniffed around the fandangle. Grabbing onto the bright fur tightly, black lightning began to electrocute the beast, shadowy flames engulfing its large form like they had the serpentine creature. As it burned into dust, Demare pulled his hand back into the shadows. One down, two to go.
It was a good trap, using the shadow from Micheal. Soon enough, the beast with part of the child's scarf in its mouth came to inspect the wall, curious as to how the cog could have destroyed its partner. As it drew closer, the shadow temporarily became alive, several dark clawed hands grasping a reaching for the beast. It tried to back away in an odd fright, but it was too late; its front paws and one long sabered tooth were caught by the hands, many more reaching and clawing through the air for something to grasp. As the shadows drug the beast into the shadows, Demare weakly stepped out, his left arm dangling limply at his side. Reaching a hand down, he pulled hard on Micheal to force him out of the wall, just in time for the beast to completely disappear. Two down... Now, where was that last one?
The growing light behind him was a big clue as to where it was, and Demare turned around just in time. ...Hardly. Bringing up his right arm, the jaws of the beast clamped down hard into his flesh, but not quite hard enough to snap the bone or to rip off his arm. His hand was caught by teeth... His only source of defense without his dagger. Well, s**t... NOW what? This hurt like nothing else, and he was about to be eaten? No... he wouldn't go down that easily.
Concentrating the best he could through the pain, he clenched his teeth to keep himself from screaming. If Clare could create light, then... couldn't he...Micheal tried to wedge its way out of the beast's mouth, disgusted by the slobber it was getting all over its gears. Good thing it was only stuck by the gums! Demare did his best to summon the shadows from around him, trying to form a ball of darkness big enough to trap the beast within. Darkness crept up from around the creature, an inky black that seemed to eat up the light. The beast growled and clamped its jaws tighter, beginning to crush the bone inbetween them. The child winced, crying out a little bit as the shadow shifted and changed its shape, curling up off of the ground as it prepared to strike.
"Micheal, get out of there!" he hissed, not sure how much more of this he could take. The fandangle shifted and turned a little more, and finally managed to free itself from the creature's mouth. Yuck! Now it was all slobbery and disgusting and icky. It would demand to be cleaned once they got home. Just as Micheal was free, the shadows came down upon the light-beast, forming a large ball around the creature. Now able to free his arm painlessly, Demare removed his wounded arm from the orb, extending his hand toward it to the best of his ability. As he slowly closed his hand into a fist, the orb shrank in size until it completely vanished, light-beast and all."You did. It! You won. Demare!" Micheal cheered, more enthusiastic than usual. It quickly noticed, however, that the child wasn't too happy. "Demare?" Demare twitched and scowled, stepping over toward his dropped dagger on the floor. Damn it, now he couldn't even pick it up. Gods, he just... hurt all over... And he was feeling rather dizzy.
"Come on," he sighed, watching the dagger sink into the shadows beneath it. "Or I'll leave you here."Micheal didn't say another word. It hovered close to its bond, and didn't even ask as the two of them sunk into the shadows on the floor, and disappeared from view and the battle.

Caravan and Memories: Part 1 Demare carefully made his way through the darkness, slipping past soft glowing eyes while he made his way toward the exit. Lately, the shadows had been growing faster than he'd expected them to be. It was as if they were feeding off of something, and they were becoming more and more independant each time he visited. Was Demian really losing control of them, or was he just being paranoid with his trust issue...? Nevertheless, ever since he'd damaged his arms nearly two weeks ago, Demare's hold on things had been slipping drastically. It wasn't until the other day when the child had nearly lost himself inside his own realm that he decided he needed to get his mind off of things for a while. He needed to hang around someone that didn't really make him think a whole lot... Karan seemed like just the kid. He'd promised to help him out, anyway, nearly two months ago.
"Remember what I told you..." Demian sighed heavily, closing his two red eyes, "No telling him anything."
"Can I tell him what happened to our arms...?" Clare asked, taking control of the body before it slumped to the dark floor. "It'll be a little hard to ignore that one, especially with the right arm still in a sling."
"Whatever. Just don't go into details about it, all right? It's... not any of his business to know."
Clare didn't respond as he continued forward, stopping at a small hole of light. Placing his left hand on the fragment, he slowly stepped forward, disappearing from the shadowy world, and walking right into the real world. ...Something wasn't right, though. The real world was a bit too leafy.
Looking down, Demare immediately began to panic, his two wings spreading out as far as they could and stiffening while the child tried to keep his balance. He'd stepped out into the tree?! Demian did this on purpose!! At least he was at Karan's house... but how was he going to get down with one arm?Sirius, one of the resident Talaye, yawned from his spot on one of the tree's thicker branches. Not much had happened lately. But then, that was normal he supposed. Aside from helping with deliveries and the occasional ride or tasting duty, life was simple. He liked it that way. Complications led to bad things, which always seemed to be scary, and always seemed to result in him losing consciousness. And even though being unconscious was generally less frightening for the duration, he wanted to keep his head straight, at least until his son returned.
Unfortunately for him, normality would have to wait for a while.
He closed his eyes and let out another great yawn, then opened them again. What was that, a falling branch? Sirius twisted to avoid it, but soon realized it wasn't falling. Nor was it a branch, but a person. With wings. Who smelled faintly of blood.
The mysterious stranger could have been manageable on its own, but the fact that he had appeared from nowhere in a tree- his tree- was a little too much for the always phobic Tala to bear. His blue eyes closed again, and he slipped off the branch, hitting the ground with a loud thud and a slightly less audible crunch.Demare backed up along the branch carefully, his wings twitching and shifting to maintain his balance, until his back bumped into the thick trunk of the tree and he slid his small body down into a sit. Goodness... That wasn't something he was expecting at all, and it was rather frightening to think of what could have happened had he fallen out of the tree at that height. He could have broken more bones! If his right arm wasn't enough all ready...
Taking a few deep breaths to calm himself down, the child's ears twitched slightly as they picked up the sound of rustling leaves and branches, followed by a rather loud thud and a soft crunch. What was that...? Turning his bi-colored eyes toward the direction of the sound, the large orbs caught a glimpse of a familiar blue mane and black fur. What was that creature?? And where had it come fro--
"Crap." The child began to panic again, realizing that the large creature must have fallen out of the tree when he'd appeared. Was it hurt?? Was it okay?? Quickly, Demare began to search for a way out of the tree. He couldn't climb down with one arm... That would be impossible from where he was. He couldn't fly down, either, since the branch didn't extend far enough outward for his wings to properly expand enough for "flight". Then, how...?
"Oh, for Christ's sake. Jump, you fool!" Demian hissed, tired of listening to Clare's silent questions.
"B-but, Demian... the ground is kind of a bit far..." Clare protested, more worried about the landing than anything. If he didn't land right, he could cause quite a bit of harm to his legs. Or worse, he could not even land on his feet and hurt his arms even more.
"You wanna be stuck in here forever?"
"N-no..."
"Then move your a**... AND JUMP!"
Clare whimpered a little bit as the demon screamed at him, lifting his left arm as a reflex to cover his head. Wait... Demian couldn't hit him while he was in the body, so what did he have to worry about? Staring toward the ground, the child bit his lip softly as he considered the options once more. While jumping wasn't the wisest (or smartest) idea, it seemed like the best one at this point. Great... and of all the luck, he was the one to be feeling the pain, too.
Demare, with the help of his left hand, used the trunk for support as he carefully stood up once more, a rather frightened expression washed over his face as he stared out toward a good enough opening between branches to jump through. He'd be feeling this one for a while, he knew... Hopefully no one would be too mad at him for it. The last thing he wanted to do was make Karan's guardian upset and sending him home. Or worse, having her end up calling Domonic to tell him what he'd done. Good thing Neko wasn't back yet... He'd REALLY let him have it, then. Extending his good arm, the halfling child made his way closer to the end of the branch, trying hard not to listen to the eerie creaking sounds from the tree due to weight being added to weak parts of the branch. He was so close... just a couple more steps and he had a good shot of jumping right out.
Unfortunately, gravity had decided he'd gone far enough. In fact, it decided he'd gone too far, and part of the branch snapped right behind him. Demare didn't have much time to react as he began to fall, not even getting to really cry out as he landed quite hard on his stomach two branches down, knocking the wind out of him. He never thought he was that heavy, but the tree seemed to think so. With the combination of the force of the fall and the weight of the child, the branch once again broke from the tree and allowed the child to plummet downward further, causing him to fall right onto his back with a loud, sickening crack. It was as if the tree wanted to make sure he was out of breath, AND in pain.
It didn't help that Demian was laughing inside of Demare's head.
"T-that... *wheeeeeze* wasn't.... *cough* funny..." he struggled to get out aloud, his head spinning while his body just tingled with pain. At least that crick in his back was gone now... Thank the gods that nothing was broken this time.
Demare shifted his head, his strange eyes searching for the creature he'd seen from the tree while he tried to catch his breath. Spotting the blue mane not too far away from him, he waited for a long moment before trying to call out.
"Hey..." he managed to say, wincing as he tried to roll himself over. "...Hey! Are y-you okay...?""Whuhappnd?" Sirius' eyelids slowly rolled back, revealing that the blue orbs were somewhat disoriented.
Then, as he remembered, he rolled to his feet. "You! What on earth do you think you're doing, just appearing in my tree and scaring the living daylights out of me? Didn't you bother to think that there might be someone there who was just relaxing, minding their own business, and who might, just might be disturbed by someone interrupting their rest? What were you thinking?"
Scolding finished, the Tala remembered what might have been a more important question, and helt relieved that his fur would hide any traces of a blush.
"Oh... and who are you, anyway?"Demare cringed as the tala scolded him, relieved that the creature seemed to be okay. With a closer look, he even remembered who it was: Sirry, the tala that took him and Karan to the park that one day. Wincing, the child sat up slowly, pain tingling throughout his back for a moment as it lifted off the ground.
"I'm glad you're all right," he said, sighing lightly. "I was a little worried when I heard that crack. I'm sorry about scaring you. I didn't mean to, honest!"
His wings stretched and spread themselves out as he turned his bi-colored eyes to the creature, smiling like nothing was wrong with him.
"My name is Demare. It's been a few months since I saw you last, Sirry."As soon as he heard his nickname, Sirius blushed again. Who did this kid think he was, calling him by his nickname when he didn't know him? He just appears and scares the living daylights out of him, and then calls him by the name that only DS and Miko would use? When he didn't even know-
Then again, if they had never met, he wouldn't know the nickname. And he did apologise. That was always welcomed. Perhaps it really was an accident.
"I'm quite alight," he finally harrumphed, shaking himself out just to make sure before looking the boy in the eye. "Have we... met?"Demare nodded a little bit, keeping his innocent smile. He didn't expect to be remembered, because he felt there was no reason for anybody to remember him, but he had grown since their last meeting. Had he been a baby and this happened, things would have been very different in many ways.
"A few months ago, Karan's guardian had asked you to take me and him to the park," he explained, moving his hand to rub his right shoulder a little bit. "It was a lot of fun, really... Getting to actually fly like that. Since I was still a baby, I couldn't properly thank you for the ride. So, even though it's belated, I thank you for that flight. It was greatly appreciated.""Oh... OH!" Faint memories wove together a picture from the past that made him slightly dizzy. "That was you? You were so much, eh, smaller then. You're quite welcome, of course. Anytime."
It was an offer Sirius meant, as he had long ago conquered his fear of heights and now enjoyed flying almost as much as sleeping in the tree. And he figured he owed something for being so harsh on the visitor. Who did, now that he thought about it, so resemble the babe from that trip months back. He briefly wondered if his parents felt as old as he did from such a sudden group, but let that thought slide.
Considerably relieved, he let out a sigh. "So, I take it you're here to see young Karan?" As he spoke he started walking towards the house. "I'm sure everyone would love the company. So quiet around here lately, you know. Good for naps, but bad for good conversation."Demare put the offer aside in his mind, making sure to remember that for later. He couldn't fly very well himself, so being with someone would be nice. As he asked about his being here, the child nodded, taking in a deep breath before trying to stand.
Oh dear GOODNESS his back was sore. Hopefully, the pain would die down throughout the day. Exhaling slowly, he turned to look at the tala, adjusting his black tattered scarf a little bit.
"If he's home, then I'd love to see him," he said, his wings fidgetting a little. "That is, if it's all right. I don't want to disturb anyone."The Tala shook his head. "Oh, no trouble at all. In fact I-""Sirry? Sirius, are you okay?" DS hurried across the lawn (while mentally noting it needed a trim). "I heard a crash.""Just the tree." Sirius looked up at it, finally seeing what damage had been done. If nothing else, he'd have to be very careful in the lower branches for a while. "We have a visitor.""So we do," the woman said, eyeing him. After a pause she smiled. "It's nice to see you again, Demare-kun. Karan's inside. Unless you came for some of my famous chocolate pie?"Demare blinked a few times, his head tilting to the left a little bit. Chocolate... pie? He'd heard of pies before, but Neko wouldn't let him try it since he was so young. ...And since his growth, she wouldn't let him try sweets for one reason or another.
"I've... never heard of chocolate, ma'am," he finally told her, using his left hand to rub the back of his neck while the fingers of his right twitched in the sling a little bit. "I've never heard of a chocolate pie, either. Does it taste good?"
"You're going to have some of this... pie," Demian decided, his two red eyes opening slightly.
"But... Neko said we shouldn't have sweets," Clare protested mentally.
"He doesn't have to know, stupid. If the lady doesn't tell him, and Domonic doesn't find out, then we're the only ones who'd know about it."
"That's wrong, though! I don't want to break his trust!"
"But you want to try it, don't you?"
"Well... it DOES sound pretty good..."
"Then just try a little bit! What harm could it do?"
"What if there's a reason we're not supposed to have it, though?""
"We won't know until we try it, now will we?"
"... You... Well, you have a point, oddly enough. Logically, if we don't try it, we'll never know WHY we aren't allowed to have any."
"So try it."
"I don't know..."
"Stop bein' a baby!"
"M-maybe... I could try some a little later?" he stammered, trying to block out anything else Demian might try to tell him. "I wanted to help Karan, first.""Oh, of course. It's still cooling anyway, but I'll bring some in for you kids once it's done." Holding the door open for the guest, DS tossed her apron onto the kitchen table as they walked through. It was a fairly short walk, as Karan's room was near the kitchen, and she left Demare next to the open door. "Have fun."Inside, Xue was bouncing a familiar plushie on the bed.
Dragon is hungry! Dragon wants food! :EKaran clapped his hands, though they made no sound as both slapped a plushie in his lap instead of eachother. He was leaning back against the wall, and the ratty old box was on the floor, barely together. A newer, stiff looking box had been shoved into the corner, seemingly untouched.Demare bowed his head a little bit as DS made her leave, his reddish hair falling over his face somewhat. Brushing the one long lock of hair behind his ear, he watched the happenings inside the room for a long moment, a slight smile on his face. It was that... doll boy. The one that had scared him when he slept over that one night. He found it a little silly, actually, that he was even afraid back then, seeing the boy in the light. But at least Karan had "protected" him.
He rested a hand carefully on his damanged arm, waiting outside of the room for the time being as he spoke. "Am I interrupting anything?" he asked, his wings folding behind his back a little bit.Xue hadn't forgotten that incident either, and backed up a little.
Is wing boy still mad at Xue? Xue is sorry... sad In contrast with the Porcelain's actions, Karan leaned forward happily, the toys completely forgotten. "Dmah! Dmah!"
In his hurry to see his friend he forgot that he wasn't in his box and leaned forward a bit too far. Though he was only on his knees, the lack of balance caused the Legend to sway dangerously near the edge of the bed.Clare was a worry wart, and perhaps in this case, that was a good thing. Demare quickly stepped into the room, hurrying to the bed to catch the baby a little bit with his left hand pressed against the small body, and leaned him back into a sit as gently as he could.
"Whoa, there... falling down's my job," he joked a little bit, sighing with relief. Things were difficult without his right hand... He would have just picked the child right up, otherwise.
Looking to the Porcelain, he shook his head a little bit. "No no, I'm not mad," he explained. "I was just... really startled. I wasn't used to hearing... other voices like that."Karan didn't look perturbed at all by his near spill. He kept his hands on Demare's, as if afraid his friend would leave, and leaned back contentedly.
This was a good day, he knew that now. Any day that Demare came to visit was a good day. This one was extra good because he got to play, and because he had shinies to give as a present this time!
"Cavan," he stated, pointing to the box on the floor.Mel told Xue that some people are scared. Xue doesn't know why. He doesn't want to scare anyone. He just wants to play. sad
If wing boy isn't mad, will he play with Kar and Xue? smile Demare's attention turned to Karan for a moment, and his bi-colored eyes shifted to the box. No, he hadn't forgotten... that was the whole reason for him coming here after all. Patting the child's silvery white hair, the boy tugged his black scarf from around his neck and shoulders, bunching it up a little bit as he set it down on the bed.
"Mmhm, we're going to fix it," he assured him, his wings shifting behind him as he carefully sat down on the floor, one knee bent while the other layed straight. With his good arm, he reached over and slid the broken box close to himself, inspecting it for a long moment. ...There was no way this was fixable. "Or rather... make you a better one."
Looking to Xue, he smiled. "Yeah, I'll play. ...Well, as best as I can."Yay! Xue will get to play with even more people now! biggrin
Grinning, he turned and started rummaging in one of the dressers in the room.Karan was doing much the same thing in his box, pushing aside pillows and toys until he found the fluffy pillow with the hole in the back. With a triumphant squeal, he pulled out a long chain with a strange looking pendant.

"Dmah sahnies." He pushed the necklace at Demare with a touch of urgency. Shinies were good, and these shinies he picked out special.Demare turned his head as Karan called for him, only to be nearly smacked in the face by the necklace he was holding out. For a moment, he didn't quite understand, but once he did, his cheeks began to burn a little bit. Karan had... gotten him a gift? At first, his bi-colored glance was entranced by the color of the little beads, eyeing the curious tripple crecent pendant it held. It was beautiful to him, but the fact that it was from his closest friend made it even more special.
"T-thank you, Karan," he stammered quietly, carefully taking the necklace and slipping it around his head, gently settling it against his chest to rest with the pendant from Chandra. A bit awkwardly, he pulled his good arm around the boy to pull him a little closer and into a bit of a hug. At least, as much as he was able to hug the much smaller child. "I'll treasure this."For the first time in a while, Karan felt safe. He snuggled deeper into his older friend, enjoying the feeling to its fullest. One of his own shinies, the one he'd had for the longest time, poked him in the ribs. He ignored it. If nothing else, the poking was just reassuring him that the charm was there. Sight and sound could be faked, but touch had never let him down.Moments later the two would find themselves being showered by crayons as Xue attatched himself to the pile.
Xue brought crayons to play with. But he doesn't want to be left out this time! sad Demare nearly cried out in pain, but he bit his tongue to prevent it. For the love of... He forgot to warn them about his arm. Wincing and releasing Karan from his hold, he tried to gently push Xue away.
"P-please... let go! You're hurting me!" he pleaded, hoping the procelin boy would understand. Oddly enough, this made him realize something. I left Karan's gifts at home...
"You're such a scatterbrain!" Demian hissed from within the child's mind.
"I must have been too excited... I put them by the dresser, but completely forgot to pick them up!" Clare remembered, wondering how he could possibly get them now. Who knows when he'd see his friend next! The gifts NEEDED the smaller boy now, so what else could he...
"We need a shadow."
"What?"
"It shouldn't take long... Find a shadow, we'll run to the house, get them, and come back!"
"Demian... Don't you think they'd find that a little odd?"
"I bet you ANYTHING the kid'll think it's 'cool' or something."
"It's not Karan I'm worried about."
"You think that doll would be scared? Gimme a break!"
Clare decided not to argue any futher on the issue, the pain in his right arm much too distracting.
"I don't see any... Well, there IS under the bed."
"Perfect!!"
"Are you sure?"
"What? It's not like we're fat, you moron. We'll fit under there just fine."
"...To think, Karan's going to wonder what might be hiding under his bed when we're through."
"Oh, come off it. It's better than a freaking mirror, isn't it? Now THAT, I'm sure, he'd be bothered by."
"You think so...?"
"Yeah. I can see it now... the poor kid would hurt himself, trying to figure out how to get into the mirror."
"I don't think Karan is stupid, Demian."
"He's a BABY. He's CURIOUS. It could happen."
"...If you say so."
"Um... Karan? I need to get something really quick. I'll be right back, okay?? I promise, I shouldn't be more than... 10 minutes!" Demare told the baby, forcing a smile on his lips.
"Can ya make it?"
"Only if you help me..."
"...Are you SURE you wanna pull something like that? It's not my head if something goes wrong."
"I... I understand. I will be held completely responsible if it disobeys."
Demare looked to Xue, still smiling. "I'm sorry for yelling at you... I'll explain when I come back."
With that, the halfling child laid himself down onto the floor and did his best to crawl under the bed and into the shadows, sinking down and out of sight, seeming to disappear underneath the bed. gonk Xue did not mean to hurt his new friend! He is very very sorry, and-
Where did new friend go? eek Karan looked down, but saw nothing. Where did Demare go? Was he hiding under the bed? But there wasn't anything under there, now that the box was up top. Maybe he dropped something, and was getting it. Probably.Xue simply continued staring at the floor.
COOL. surprised It really did only take the child about 10 minutes to retrieve what he needed, with the help of a few shadow beasts under Demian's control. Demare struggled a little bit coming out from the shadows, however, having to climb up with not only one arm, but being very cautious of a few things he had tucked into the sling with his right arm. His bandaged hand crept out from the shadows underneath the bed, trying hard to get a good enough hold with his arm to heeve himself upward. It wasn't too long before he was actually pulling himself along the floor, looking a little tired.
"F-found them..." he breathed, deciding that it would be best not to do that again for a while. Maybe he'd actually walk home later...
Using the bed for support, the child managed to sit up, carefully taking out two rather large and colorful eggs from his sling. Placing the two down in front of Karan, he smiled, hoping they would be all right.
"They should be hatching pretty soon, I think," he explained, his wings shifting a little bit. "My 'brother' seems to like them, so I thought maybe you might, as well." In a quieter voice, he added, "You might want to be careful of what you say around them... They can hear you."
At that, the small ears poking out from the hard shells appeared to twitch slightly, as if they were listening.
Lifting his right arm away from himself a little bit, he slipped a book out from underneath it, and placed it next to the eggs.
"They told me this is supposed to be some sort of magic book, something to write spells in... but I figure you could use it for just about anything," Demare said, rubbing the back of his head with his good hand. "I'm... not sure if you can write yet, but maybe when you get older... I just thought you might like it, since it's pretty and kinda reminds me of you."Eyes wide at the sight of all the new things, Karan let out a happy squal. Presents! It was like that day with the big tree, only this one was better because he had friends. And these things were all his, he didn't have to share. He plaved one hand on top of the nearest egg and let it slide down its curved shell, finally flopping onto the notebook.
"Pweedy," he noted once he had calmed down a little. Everything was very pretty. And if the two round things were going to turn into more animals, then there would be more around to play with. He already loved playing with the squirrel and the frog, and he would try and see what was in the bowl as soon as he could reach it.
As the rush of giving and getting faded, he looked at his friend again, and the smile faded too. "Dmah okay?"Since Demare's return, all Xue had been able to do was stare.
Can... canfriendteachXuehowtodothatplease? surprised biggrin Demare blinked a few times at Karan's question, not sure why he asked it at first. Looking to his arm, however, he thought that maybe he was talking about that. His black eye caught a glimpse of a dark mark on his pale flesh, the bandage around his right arm having slipped down a little.
"s**t. Fix that, you dimwit."
"Huh? Fix what?"
"See if you can cover that up. No one needs an explination of these damn things."
"Maybe we should retie this one when he get back... I don't think Domonic tied that one tight enough."
"...He did. It fell on its own."
Demare tried to adjust the bandage a little bit, hoping it would stay. Maybe it fell a little when Xue had hugged him... Turning to answer Karan, he was interrupted by Xue's cry.
Teach him to do what?
"Um... can you say that again, but a little slower?" he asked, quirking a brow. Can friend teach Xue to do the sinking into the floor thing?
If Xue knew how to do that, Neechan would have to watch it and think it was good. *_*"Dmah otay?" Karan persisted, his face now a full-fledged frown. He looked tired, and not happy. Did he see something bad under the bed?Oh... THAT. Demare frowned a little bit, a bit surprised that Xue wasn't really even bothered by what he'd done.
"I'm sorry, but... I can't exactly teach you that," he told him, rubbing his arm a little bit. "It's an ability I have... it can't be just taught to someone."
Looking to Karan, he smiled a little bit. "Yeah, I'll be okay."Oh. Like Neechan can fit everything behind the couch. Right. sad
Dejected, Xue retrieved one of the crayons that littered the floor. Play? smile "Gooh. Otay Gooh." Nodding emphatically, Karan reached out just to make sure, and found himself being presented with a fistful of crayons.PLAY. biggrin
Xue scooped up another handfull and waved them at Demare. Play now? Play? Demare blinked a few times, staring at the crayons for a moment. Play with... oh!!
"I know! We could make the caravan, AND play!" he realized, thinking the crayons would come in handy with decorating.Karan clapped his hands eagerly. "Cavan now!" Finally they were going to make the new caravan! And the new box was bigger, with room for more stuff! The lady had shown it to him before, but he didn't want to use it yet. Not without it being special. And now Demare was going to help make it special, just like he promised.
"Bok." He pointed to the corner of the room, where the new carboard box was sitting. Strips of duct tape reinforcing the corners were the only decoration, otherwise it was unadorned, a blank canvas awaiting its artists.Make box pretty? Xue would like to help with that! 3nodding Demare looked toward the box for a moment, trying to think of how to do this. It really was going to be hard with one arm... He wouldn't be able to do as much as he'd originally planned. Looking over to Xue, he nodded with a smile.
"Of course you can help! The more the better, right?" he said, chuckling a little bit. "Is there any chance you could bring the box over here, first? I'm a little... handycapped at the moment."
Looking to Karan again, his wings folded a little closer to his back. "Karan, is there any way you could show me what a caravan looks like?"Yes!
Xue hurried to the box and failing to get his arms around it, grabbed one lip and dragged it back towards the center of the room. That was a good question. He had only seen them a couple times in the night pictures. But he had never tried to see one, and even if he did, how could he show Demare? The last time no one had been able to see the night pictures, and he couldn't make one anyway.
"No."Well, this couldn't be good... They would be doing this in the dark? Demare thought about this for a moment, trying to remember himself what they looked like.
"Hmmm... Is there maybe a picture somewhere?" he asked, hoping Xue might know something as well. "Maybe in a book?"Xue hasn't seen anything. sad A brief knock at the door preceded DS's entrance, as did an enormous pie. "I hope I'm not interrupting you boys, but I thought you might like to have some of that famous chocolate pie." She winked as she set it on a nearby end table, and rummaged for napkins in her apron while awaiting an answer.Demare watched Karan's guardian enter the room, the arouma of chocolate filling the small area. Goodness... that smelled really good. And he DID want to try some...
Wait.
"Um... ma'am? Do you happen to know what a caravan looks like?" he asked first. Maybe if she knew, she could help explain it a little while they tried the pie."Sure I do. Xue, would you run to the kitchen and get plates and forks please? The ones on the table." DS pulled out a pie server and started to slice the pie, silently wondering at the source of the question.Xue ran out of the room with one thought in his mind.
PIE. blaugh "Let's see... caravans are very old, before cars were invented. I know early settlers on Gaia used them to move their belongings when new land was discovered. Some people, like gypsies, still use them, since they don't have homes. The caravans serve as their houses, I think.
"They look like big wagons, with big wheels. Some of them have canvas stretched over the top, while others are made entirely of wood. The early ones were quite plain, but those that are a bit more recent are very ornate. They're usually carved and painted; sometimes even the wheels are decorated. And no two are alike."
DS looked up from the pie, which was cut into six large slices. "Did that help?"Karan listened, fascinated. The one he'd seen was very pretty, with lots of pictures, and it sounded just like she was saying- big, with big wheels, and lots of wood and colors. Perfect!Demare watched the expression on Karan's face, noting the fascination. That must be it, then... What he wanted. Looking back to DS, he smiled, nodding happily.
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you," he said, his wings fluttering a little bit. He began to work out in his mind what to do to make the box resemble the picture that formed in his mind, a little curious as to how to make the top. Maybe a little cloth... or some folding... maybe a little of this, or that..."I'm glad I could be of service," DS murmured, giving a curtsy.Only a small tuft of hair was visible above the stack of plates and cutlery that made its way into the room, stopping just short of the table.
Xue did good?Shaking her head amusedly, DS took the load. "Yes. Now, who wants some pie?"
