It would really tick me off if someone did it, at least without asking me. Especially if it was one of my favorite copies. If it's a meaningful comment that inspires me to ruminate over it then I wouldn't mind at all. The condition of the book would be the main factor, if it was old or tattered I'd think whatever they wrote would be cute and keep it around even longer.

This depends on a number of factors. First, the condition of the book. I'm not really the type to freak out if my books aren't in pristine condition. I buy most of my books through eBay or Amazon, as well as 'real' used-book stores. I don't really like for my books to look brand new all the time, because it gives them the feeling of never having been read. Second, the subject matter. Certain books, I don't feel a need to make notes in. Others, I do, especially in school textbooks, nonfiction, my Bible, etcetera. I'll make notes in books of poems, regarding interpretation.
Generally, I'm the only one allowed to make notes in my books. However, a few intelligent close friends can occasionally be trusted to do the same.

crying I would probably cry if people ever tried to write in any of my books. I hate it when people turn the pages over to mark what page they were on, let alone writeing on them! The cover page however, is alright. So long as I'm not flipping through a chapter and all the sudden see a note scribbled in the margins saying " OMG! I love this book! " or whatever the person had to say at the time. stare For that matter if anyone wrote "OMG" on my book I would probably kill them.

I get right out furious when someone even TOUCH my books in the wrong way, and I only lend them away to people that I know will treat them right. But I do write in my books, because they are MY books and If I want to write in them I can, but others can't just take that right. I know I'm weird, but I'm possesive of everything in my room^^;

I don't let anyone write in my books. I used to sign my name at the top of my old mangas, so everyone would know they were mine, but I'd usually get angry right after, cause I have terrible handwrititing, and it'd put a damper on the beauty of the book sweatdrop

My books are very important to me. I have a hard time letting my closest friends borrow them, let alone anyone else. There's this one girl that is always on my back to let her borrow some of my mangas, but I don't trust her. I always try to be polite to people but I'm this close to blowing up in her face instead of politly refusing. I was so close to screaming "Are you crazy, b***h!?" When she asked to borrow my Death Note the day before school ended. I never let my books go home with people for the weekend, let alone the whole summer!
